    I was just gifted a cathedral window from my cousin, she doesn’t sew. I’m thankful to get it, my Great Grandmother started it at least 50 years ago, and it came with all the pieces to finish it. I know what my winter project will be.

    My husband received a Cathedral Windows quilt from his uncle when his aunt passed. The quilt was made by the aunt's mother. It was all done by hand and even as an experienced sewer/quilter, I could not figure out how the blocks were created. It is 74"x84" and the colored fabrics are about 1.5" square. I searched and found your video, and WOW, what a process! It makes us appreciate what we have all the more. Your quilt is beautiful. Thank you souch for sharing the process!! ❤

    This is your opus... your masterpiece... if you will... stunning...just jaw dropping. The work in this. OMG... She is anxiously waiting to have it all for her and her family💟_*

    Love the short cuts.
    I started a cathedral window quilt when my daughter had a twin bed ... only used machine for the white pieces putting them together, sewing on in long strips, then hand sewed all the squares in.
    She then went to a Full sized bed before I finished, so I added more rows of the white muslin and kept adding squares. She has now moved in with her boyfriend, so I need to add some more strips of muslin. I’m keeping this pink, light blue and lavender, and kind of try for a pattern, changing with every edge. It definitely pays to get all the muslin at once, but as I said, I keep having to alter the size, LOL, so I have a few squares of “white” muslin that aren’t exactly the same color of white.
    Thank you for sharing

      *_Hi Collette....I had same issue with the white not matching on this quilt....I made sure It was the same barcode number/ color of white but since it wasn't from the same bolt- it didn't match perfectly. I think I'm the only one that can tell though. That's wonderful that you keep adding on to the quilt as the situation changes 💟_*

    I remember my grandmother doing one of these by hand in the early 1970s. If I'm not mistaken, my mothers oldest sister got it after Gran died. Every sibling got a quilt and as I was the first grandchild to marry, she made me a "trip around the world" for my wedding present. It was the last quilt she made before she passed away.

      That would be a good idea, except your still going to sew around each of your 2 1/2 inch squares. I would probably do it by 6-8 sections. After I finished those, then I'd sew them them all together so I wouldn't have such a big section all together.

    Two questions. How close and wide were your zig zag stitches and could a small piece of heat n bond be used in the center of each block instead of hand stitching?
    Thank you!

    • @TheSewingChannel
      @TheSewingChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      *_Thank you Sue!💟 I don't think heat bond would work because that area is "pulled" when we sew the bias open.✅ In the video I made my zig zag a little too thick I think. Not sure on the number on my zig zag. Just make sure it's wide enough to catch both pieces of fabric together✅_*

    This is beautiful! I've been trying different ways to sew cathedral windows. I've seen this way, and just before you attach the flaps, they would slip a5" square under, so there was a colorful background, same color or scrappy, then the polyfil under the picture fabric, then sewing the frame around the picture. This method seems to be less bumpy, lumpy. That's what I've been running into... thick seams and/or lumps where the seams meet. Love your quilt ❤😊

    Ok this is BEAUTIFUL. I've done a small square foot cathedral window quilt, but I'm about to start on my first large one, using a machine. Your tutorial is SO helpful, I feel ready to start now! I have a question. When you finish a few blocks, and the quilt is growing, is it still pretty manageable to do the curves of the picture windows that join the blocks? I'm starting this weekend, I'm stoked.

    Hi Tracy! I love your cathedral window quilt that you made two years ago for your daughter. I have a question. I am trying not to sound like a nay-sayer... but how well has the quilt held up? I am wanting to use your technique. But, I am not sure how the zigzag stitching holds up after wear, tear and washing.

    • @TheSewingChannel
      @TheSewingChannel  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you...yes it has held up ....no issues...but honesty they don't use it...they have it displayed out where everyone can see it. The zig zag will hold up better than if you understitch it....Im my opinion✅ Make a small mock up and put it through the ringer so to speak haha...and see what happens...keep me posted🩷

    • @TheSewingChannel
      @TheSewingChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Match the best you can. I kept the number of fabric bolt handy so when I went to store I’d have it. It was white so it is easy to match if I couldn’t find. ✅

    Hi!!! Could a 10" square be used for this pattern instead of a 9.5"? Would the 2.5" window squares still work?

    • @TheSewingChannel
      @TheSewingChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure...you may have to make the window square a 1/4" to 1/2" bigger...do a mock up to see how it will look,✅

    What brand of white fabric did you use & where to purchase it. Your quilt is gorgeous! 🤩 I never seam to get the correct white background fabric, I would always buy 100% cotton & it seemed to be to light or to heavy. Also did you wash your white fabric before using? I have started this same quilt twice & threw each one away due to how to attach them & my centers were never even. Now that I have watched your video I see what I was doing wrong. Thank you so much for sharing, maybe in the near future I will have a pretty Quilt. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

    Who knew a "Quilt As You Go" quilt (😉) could be so absolutely gorgeous? I imagine from now on you'll think of all your quilts as BCW and ACW. What an amazing accomplishment you've achieved. Every stitch sewn to make each completed block is another indication of your love for your daughter and her husband.

      I made several different trips to fabric store because I wasn’t sure how much I needed. I practiced a different way first and waisted 10 yards. But ultimately to make the quilt you see in video… 35ish yards. But remember that accounts for backing and you don’t use batting✅

    I love this quilt. I want to do one but with bigger blocks. Do you have any advice for me on this idea. I made a pillow using a different method and got so frustrated. Plus my center squares are satin, and what a double whammy that was to my nerves.lol.

    • @TheSewingChannel
      @TheSewingChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure..do bigger blocks....If you follow the instructions in the video , you will be fine. Dab some clear stick glue on the satin before you sew it so it stays in place✅ It will be beautiful💛
