    Dear TGV,
I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to you. You have played a pivotal role in igniting my passion for watch collecting three years ago. It all started with my very first timepiece, the legendary Seiko SKX0009, which still holds a special place in my collection.
Just last week, a lifelong dream of mine came true as I acquired my first Rolex Datejust 16220 from 2006. I'm only twenty years old, but your impeccable style and unwavering dedication to the world of watch horology have already left an indelible mark on me. Your influence will undoubtedly resonate with future generations to come.
Your work is truly admirable, and I can't thank you enough for the invaluable knowledge and joy you bring to watch enthusiasts like myself. I hope to continue enjoying your captivating content for many more years to come.
    Best regards,
    Jona

Thank you so much Jona, you just made my evening. Congrats on the DJ, and the still having the SKX.
Hearing this form a 20 year old gives me hope for the future. Enjoy the new watch. Outstanding choice.
Onwards and ever upwards my friend.

My father gifted me the same watch but with roman numerals. I'll cherish it forever because it's the watch he wore as he worked hard every day to put food on the table for us, when I wear it I am constantly reminded how hard he worked to give a better life for my mom and I and how I should work hard too to take care of my family as well ❤
Thanks for covering this amazing watch!

You were the first to introduce me The Passion of collection and watchmaking and I can't tell you how grateful I am for your videos and your tag team videos with Mark. I have 15 watches now cama plan to go no more than 20. And I know what I like. You are the one who taught me how to how to do that and be respectful of the history behind everything we see. If you want to reduce your collection, that's perfectly fine with me. I know that all the watches I like in my collection give me some of those same feelings and you're the one who was instrumental in that. Keep the ones you love and enjoy.

So sitting here in my garden just south of Glasgow, sipping coffee bathed in sunshine with an alpinist on my wrist life is good , Tgv .
When a new vid from your urban gentry pops up , I think we all have a long sigh of relief , Ahh this will be a breath of fresh air , so far removed from commercial channels and sponsored sycophants
And it's "style" like climbing mountains , style is important , you can join a huge commercial expedition and be guided up everest , and yes this is a fantastic achievement, but for those who climb "alpine' style there will always be a special place for those individuals

What's that old saying, "announcing your plans is the best way to make God laugh" just when you are on track a new watch comes out 😆 I know how you feel though. When I got my Doxa Sub300 Sea rambler earlier this year I felt like my collection was where I wanted it to be. All that was left was a grail piece that would take a ton of saving and maybe a lucky deal on the Bay of something I'd been keeping an eye out for. Then all of a sudden Doxa releases a Clive Cussler tribute watch and I'm up in arms trying to make the budget work. Even my watches that don't get much wrist time I find it hard to part with. That's why I've been trying to plan towards some sort of endgame, some final piece of the puzzle in my collection. It's just so hard when new releases like the new Aquastar 60 offer such an enticing product. Good with your collecting luck my friend.

Congrats on a lovely Tudor. As for me, Tudor was my first luxury watch. I own a BB58, black/gilt, on a variety of straps. Tudor certainly got this one "right" as I prefer wearing it over my Starbucks Sub. I will never sell it and will leave it to my son. Every time I wear it, I feel like the "true" James Bond - Sean Connery. Cheers!

Your Prince is absolutely stunning! I especially liked your comments regarding the ETA movements. To obtain the most authentic of Tudor watches, I feel the ETA Tudors are a must. In-house movements just don’t do anything special for me, regardless of the brand. I admire the sensibility and practicality of getting ETA’s serviced much more readily and with less cost. If given a choice, I would almost always go with a vintage watch over a modern design, but that’s just me. Superb content as always! Thank you!🥃

It's interesting how many of us go through the same watch hobby arc. I got into the hobby just over a decade ago and have probably bought and sold around 30 watches in that time. I peaked at around 15 total at one time. In the last 3 years I have slowly winnowed it down to 2 which are the most meaningful to me and have never been happier. TBH I may add a third in the next year or so just for a little variety, but could never see myself going back to more than that.

Same. Im down to a few vintage watches, a dress watch, a stainless Maurice Lacroix because I love the style and finish, and my grail watch, my white gold Rolex Day Date. I have no desire to get any more, but if I ever do they'll be vintage watches because they're more meaningful to me. I was close to 20 watches at one point; but buying relatively affordable modern watches lost all meaning. It felt as meaningless as buying a new shirt.

TGV it's always a pleasure to experience your enthusiasm on an unboxing. I simply cannot believe you will manage to get your collection down to only 4 watches at this stage in my collection arc. At the moment, mine is heading in the other direction, somewhat under the influence of your excellent videos, which I cannot believe I have been watching since I started collecting around the time of the covid crisis of 2020. For my part, I think 7 is the perfect number. One watch change every day, covering most of the major complications and styles. As it happens, my most recent acquisition was also a Tudor, the unobtanium ivory dial Black Bay Panda Chrono, which the AD made me wait around a year for. It's one beefy chap of a watch!

  • @ajgs97
    @ajgs97 ปีที่แล้ว +2

TGV just go full Mark with drawers full of watches! 😂 I think collecting goes beyond practicality and he who collects does so because he loves it, not because he needs to, and the size of the collection is proportional to the love, so yours can be bigger than most people's 😊
Having said that, my goal size is 5, when it could be 2. I love watches but not THAT much, and even though my grail (moonphase speedmaster) is more expensive than my car I still love it and want to get it someday and keep it forever.

The Casio exception rule is a must! I can't imagine myself not having at least a couple of Gs (let's say a square a an oak) and a couple of vintage digital Casios (one black resin and one chrome coated) as I do wear these a lot. Otherwise I think going for the 3-5 watch collection from 30 is a good and challenging route. Looking forward to your future videos.

Dear TGV, two of my favorite watches are of recent vintage Tudor Black Bay watches. First, is the Black Bay GMT with an Oyster Style Bracelet. Second is a first generation Black Bay Chronograph with a black face and a stainless bezel again with an Oyster Style Bracelet. What particularly drew me to the brand is as follows: Size - at 40 to 41mm in size, the watch looks good on my rather large wrist. COSC Certification - while not as tight in tolerance to the Rolex, my Tudor keeps very accurate time. Style - I believe the style to be enduring. Movements - Both BB have In-house movements (the Chrono having a column wheel escapement movement co-developed with Breitling B01 movement to be modified by Tudor). Water Resistance - with screwdown crowns, the water resistance is very respectable. Lastly, Value - Tudor costs less than 1/2 the price of the more pretentious Rolex. For all of these reasons, the Tudor Black Bay's are respectable and a pleasure to wear.

There's so so so much to be said for a small collection!! I have just 3 watches: Rolex Oyster Perp 41mm (green), a G Shock B5600 and a vintage Victorinox Cavalry. Never been happier before. I went from 30 watches down to 3 and it's less stressful and you get to spend more quality time (no pun intended) with your watch. Cheers TGV!

As valiant an effort as you may think a small watch collection may be, I just don't think it's right for you TGV. First of all, you'll never ever part with your Tudor Sub, your Cartier Santos, your Rolex Pepsi, your Explorer, your Paneri, that's 5 watches right there that don't even include your numerous design collaborations. Right now I´ve got 3 watches that are definitely there to stay for the foreseeable future: The Speedy, the Sinn 556i and the G-Shock (or Casio beater of some kind) plus two watches I inherited from my uncle. Maybe a new mid-range diver (Squale...?) and that could consolidate my collection medium-term. Which would also mean that 3 Seikos had to go. 🤔
Not an easy process to start, but for sure something that helps to appreciate the keepers.

I'm gonna be a bad influence here and recommend buying a squale. The case design on the 50 atmos is phenomenal. At 41.5mm diameter and 500 meters water resistance to only be 13mm thick and be as comfortable and wearable as it is is nothing short of arcane. And the bright vibrant dials with the highly polished chapter rings are stunning.

By the time I'll get my hands on the 556i the bracelet version will probably cost more than 1500 eur and I will reconsider my grail watch. Maybe I should just wait and save more and go straight for the GS without experiencing the Sinn. 🤤

@@zibel5007 I bought it in 2019 on a strap (not much of a bracelet guy) for 860 Euros (3 percent off RRP). It´s a great watch, but not a bargain anymore with the price increases.

@@mitchaelhollingsworth1698 My favorite is the Sub-39. Small wrist (6.25 in) and I love the vintage-inspired design. But thanks for sharing your experience.

    • @mitchaelhollingsworth1698
      @mitchaelhollingsworth1698 ปีที่แล้ว

@@klausm5460 cheers. I am a big fan of the sub 39, the crown is really cool and well, crownlike, and the little red accents add a bit of fun. And i like the profile of the rounded lugs, and a domed crystal is always nice. If i didnt already have another navy blue diver i would have seriously considered buying one. Although i still dont know if i would opt for the sub 39BL or the sub 39RD.
On the 50 atmos vs the sub 39 front, my wrist is 16cm, which i think is pretty similar to yours, so if you were hypothetically interested in a 50 atmos it would probably fit well. I think the lug to lug distance for both the sub 39 and the 50 atmos cases is 48mm despite the different case diameter. Anyways wish you all the best.

I’ve started doing the same, downsizing my collection.
This year I have sold around 22 watches, mostly on eBay, but bought about 6 😂
My favourite purchase this year was my new Tudor BB GMT S&G Rootbeer which I love

Great video!! I own a Tudor Oyster Prince Date / Day I wear from time to time. It is a VERY underrated watch. Rolex only sell the Day / Date in precious metal, so you are going to shell out some serious $$$ for one of those. The Tudor is the closest design you will find to the Rolex Day / Date, at about 1/10th the price.

Semi off topic, but I absolutely swore I'd never own a Panerai. Those ghastly looking monstrosities on a wrist. Nope, not me. But, I kept seeing them on watch enthusiast wrists over and over. Over time I started warming up to them the more I saw them, but still never desired to have my own. As more and more time passed, I finally decided to try one on, bought it on the spot, and hardly wear any other watch I own over my Luminor. I tend to dress more casually and the Panerai just fits better with my lifestyle and I absolutely love it. It might not have the same "flex" as other brands, but I like that it's an "if you know, you know" kind of watch.

In relation to your question. Tudor has hit the right price point for their quality of watches. They are better relating to their customers than others. The new rollout of certification clearly shows they stand by their products and go beyond most. I'm looking forward to what's ahead. Unfortunately, I'm just a newborn to the bug, but Tudor all the way. Great video👍

As ever, sage advice. I have certainly become much more selective in my collecting. I already know which I want in and which will be heading out and the latter outweighs the former. But I am still someway off contemplating a small, select personal collection. I wonder if I will reach that point?
Congratulations on your Tudor. Enjoy 👏👏👏👏👏👏

ALSO, did you just make a C&C reference!!!!???? WHOA! I used to love those games! RTS games were pretty much all I played back in the 90's! hehe! Red Alert was great, Tiberium Sun was a bit disappointing, but Original C&C and AOE will always be top! Remember Dark Reign? Now there's a throwback!

Tudor S&G’s are really nice. I’ve always liked them. Although I’ve added them to my shopping cart many times, I just can’t make myself hit the checkout button. I always end up going a more “relaxed” or “casual” with what I buy. Nice watch man…enjoy it.

I love that Tudor is the more accessable Rolex. You are not compromising for an homage but buying into a legit founded brand. Also as you noted in another video they are selling their in house movements to other brands which will take them back to the roots as a tool watch as watch facilities become familar with maintaining them like the ETA movements.
