      @@karlosh9286 The point I was trying to make was "horses for courses" and with your speed being limited to 30 or 40mph and having lots of traffic to filter through a smaller bike might suffice. As a Street Triple owner I live for fast country B roads where I can fully stretch its legs. Each to his own as they say. After considering your comment you'd probably be more than happy on a Trident - although don't expect it not to drag you out to the twisties now and again for a damn good thrashing. Lol.

  • @karlosh9286
    @karlosh9286 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've come to the conclusion the Trident is a Street Twin and Street Triple S 660cc got together and had a love child.
    The Trident has the round headlight, and almost a pear shaped tank of the Twin. A single round clock (like the twin), but it's digital (like the triple) !
    The engine mainly comes from the Street Triple 660, but the peak power output is half way between it and the Street Twin, with a bit more torque than the Street Triple 660cc but less than the Street Twin.
    The frame is more Street Triple , but the pillion seat from what I can see, looks a bit lower , wider and better for a pillion ( like the Street Twin )
    So that's it, the Trident is a love child bike !
    ( it is a bit more Street Triple than Street Twin but still :) )
    It does look very good for the money, they're going to sell a load.
    If it had been out in June 2019 , I might have had one as my first big bike. Scrub that, I probably would have had one as my first big bike.

    • @karlosh9286
      @karlosh9286 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Triumph now need to make the love child bike between a Speed Triple RS and a Speed Twin. I want a 16 litre tank with a shape more like the Twin, a triple 1050cc 148 BHP engine with QS on the gearbox, a single headlight, a bit of a better pillion seat than the Speed Triple, no keyless ignition, a half fairing option, fully adjustable suspension, cruise control, heated grips, twin TFT round clocks. Single side exhaust , that looks like one side of the Twin.

  • @karlosh9286

    As someone who owns a 2013 street triple r and wants something a little more relaxed this interests me, especially with a slip on and intake I wouldn't be surprised to find another 8hp out of it. However I hope they release a "S" version with upgraded suspension bits. Don't need to be ohlins just something with more adjustability. I owned a S2R800 with soft adjustable suspension and I didn't like it. I ended up swapping a lot to make it decent and eventually sold it for the better suspension and motor of the street triple r. I'll test ride it but I have a feeling I'll want something a bit firmer.

    I was looking out for your review too - best one I’ve seen on the Trident. I wasn’t sure either about the styling at first, but it has grown on me too and I agree it looks good in the black in the video. How do you think it would compare to a Ducati Scrambler 800 on the basis that they are both nakeds with not hugely dissimilar power?

    • @motobob
      @motobob  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the Scrambler 800 is indeed a good match for this bike in terms of competition, although you'll pay at least a grand more unless you go for the Dark. Also servicing costs on Ducati likely to be more. Power is similar, weight is similar, so I'd say it will come down to whether you fancy a v-twin or a triple. It will be interesting to see if Yamaha are going to really fight for this market (on two fronts) with a new XSR700. Judging by the spec of the new MT07 they have only 2 main weapons left to use - looks and pricing. That style of TFT would look be look great on the XSR.

Probably engine from Tiger 900, 95 HP, maybe tuned to magic 100 HP. Also that engine would probably fit same chassis as some reviewers mention that Trident 660 chassis feels capable for 15-20 HP more.Bigger engine will require adequate upgrade in suspensions and braking(like desired radial calipers) to balance the overall performance. The Trident falls short in this respect as a victim of styling. Nevertheless, a great bike.
