It's funny because if the anime worked with game mechanics during that final battle, there's no doubt Infernape would've fainted due to the poison. However, we know the anime only applies game rules when it works for the sake of the plot.
Why should the anime follow game rules in the first place? Its the anime, not the games. Its supposed to mimic real life as much as possible, and the game mechanics dont do that.

Paul is absol-utely the best rival. He felt like a rival who's character and motives exist outside of Ash. When you learn about how he's dissapionted in his Brother and mearly transfers that aggression to Ash, was a pretty adult moment for Pokemon. Great Video too. Also Major respect for ntoing the Electivire stopped the ref in the final match, the dub anime messed up this super imortant moment.
I think Paul and electivire of course are some of the greatest rivals ash has ever had in the entire series. It also made me absolutely love infernape as a Pokémon (best fire fighting type starter in my opinion). It’s a shame that sinnoh ash was so good they had to invent a character who definitely used an action replay to make him lose the league
I agree about Paul & Electivire being two of the best! It's hard for me to be too mad about Tobias when you compare it to the Unova fiasco with Cameron haha. Even though Ash lost, I think it's awesome that Ash was the only trainer in all of Sinnoh capable of beating Darkrai (assuming Tobias didn't battle Cynthia or the Elite Four).
I remember being intrigued with Paul and his effects on his pokemon in that they all basically shared his personality, which makes sense as he's the one training them
That Spearow actually has a great history haha. It fought Pidgeot and appeared in the manga. I'm planning to branch out to other types of content in the future though

Crazy how not as many people discuss Pikachu defeating Regice in the Battle Frontier but then tied with a BABY Pokemon (Elekid) at the start of Ash's Sinnoh journey. Yeah, I know it wasn't like a starter Pokemon since Paul trained it for awhile. However, it still tied lol

Well, I USED to think that until we saw Hala do just that in the Alola League -_-

Paul is hands down his best rival. They had so much screen time together in comparison to other rivals and it made sense. Like it wasn’t a forced rivalry. Two trainers with greatly different opinions on how to battle and raise Pokémon. Every time they battle it was one to watch. Gary and Ash rivalry never really had them battle more than twice to my memory, maybe even once. Ash losing to Trip always made no sense since ash was way more experienced. Sawyer was probably the second best since they constantly battled and treeco and frogadier had a little rivalry going on.
Sawyer is awesome as well. I think Alain might be my second favorite, simply for the fact that his 4 episode special was beyond amazing. I loved how he and Steven saw each other as equals too
Paul was best rival with Gary being second. Later rivals can't even match up to them. Trip was just Paul wannabe and Ash lost to him because for some reason, his skills went back to amateur. I liked Alain as he had his own story before meeting Ash. He was therefore a crossover rival. I liked Gladion too because despite his serious demeanor he had good friendship/ rivalry with Ash. And let us not forget Leon, the main rival in Journeys whom Ash had to overcome to become the very best like no one ever was.
Electivire has been one of my favourite electric types ever since I saw it, so seeing this has really brightened my day It reminds me of my electabuzz who still hasn't evolved yet
Paul's most versatile pokemon,it does the dirty work,it can take a backseat and use defensive moves to cover up Paul's pokemon. It can use Thunder as a Counter Shield or on the battlefield to deal damage on the opponent. Can use it's tails to grab the opponent.
This was fantastic!! Loved going down memory lane looking at everything Electivire had done in the series! Any battle with it was great and I loved its dynamic with pikachu and infernape. Paul & Electivire we’re an incredibly powerful pair throughout the entire series and one of the best ever!

Notice how Paul treated his electivire and Torterra differently to all the other Pokémon he captured. It’s almost like favouritism on his part. Like he felt a Pokémon needed to prove themselves to be apart of his team

The most Shakespearean Pokemon battle was the final battle between Infernape and Electivire. It was the best battle in the whole series. Journeys should give this amount of adrenaline. Nice video. I hope the next one is a massive powerhouse pokemon. Like an Ice Mammoth-Pig.

Electivire is a Pokémon representation of Paul that demonstrates Paul’s growth as a trainer. Even in its most recent appearance where it played with pikachu and grookey demonstrated this.

Paul was a great rival to ash. I always assumed Elekid would stay the same like Pikachu or piplup but despite not being Paul’s starter it evolved and got stronger. I love how the last fight. Infernape vs Electivire mirrored the first fight elekid vs chimchar.
Doing this video made me want to cover Ursaring in the near future. It's going to be a much shorter video, but it's too cool of a character to pass up.
I think out of all of Paul's Pokemon, Electivire seems to have been the only one that liked the harsh training. I mean look back at it when it was an Elekid, it acted so arrogant and condescending.
Electivire was actually a pretty good guy, stopping the ref to allow Infernape to get up. Even if it was just to try and beat it up again. Paul on the other hand was still a dick through and through. I *throughly* enjoy watching Ash mop the floor with him
Electivire is a proud warrior who has full confidence in both himself and Paul. The dude just wanted a real 100% legit victory against Infernape and his trainer rival.
Paul is the best trainer why ash never learn from him I mean paul always check his pokemon stat after catching them & give them hard training so they can become stronger & keep rotating his team so everyone can become stronger too bad paul was given bad team during his fight with ash in the league so they can show that miracle of friendship is way more better than hardwork,thats make no sense Seriously ash often release his strong pokemon like naganadel,goodra, & greninja and keep his weak one like totodile,rowlet,oshawott,snivy,and scraggy(his unova team is really awful & got too many pokemon with the same type)he should release them or force them to evolve or maybe give them to another trainer to train them just like what he did to squirtle & primape,that could make him look less pathetic,also he give beedril to casey always piss me off,how come he give such a good final evolution to a girl just because she like yellow & black colored pokemon seriously ash thats why he need more than 20 year to win a league(try to be more serious as a trainer ash) & alola league just a little league in my opinion because that league only have full battle during the final exhibition match so i guess that league doesn't count & orange league too because theres no orange league in the game,in the end paul should learn from the best trainer in the whole anime,Paul & the second best,Gary because he already catch more pokemon than ash in their first halve of journey "it's all about win"
You're comparing Paul entire team to just Sinnoh one, Paul travel as many regions as Ash if Ash use all of his strongest Pokemon Paul would've zero chance even with if he use different Pokemons, Ash can't force his pokemons to evolve, they don't evolve with some kind of stones except Pikachu who don't need it. If you're going to say about Paul is better as trainer than don't forget that Paul is a failure who can't bring Chimchar special blaze but Ash not only made Chimchar activate his special blaze more than once but master it too.

You can really see why Infernape is one of Ash’s top 5 strongest Pokémon, he’s almost like the Pokémon version of Goku. Electrivire really changed for the better, going from being a rude bully to being a supportive friend.

Torterra was the one that came out and smashed anything on his way. I always liked him for being very independent. He really doesn't give a frick about what his trainer thinks (I remember him helping Grotle and then Paul telling him something like "I really don't understand you" with the most resigned tone ever). I think he's just used to his trainer is and ignores him
This mon is cool, sad thing it needs trade evolution, a fun thing about Professor Alex Silver is on how he is showing cool and awesome clips makes me want to re-watch the entire pokemon anime. I love your vids Prof keep up the great work.

The rivalry with Paul and development of Elekid are why Electivire is now my favorite pokemon! It was great to see it featured here. Definitely the most interesting rival pairing in the franchise imo.
Brandon and paul's battle was pretty emotional and i would wanna see a rematch between paul and brandon. And let paul have his own mini series of his journeys in the pokemon anime
While I would love to see Paul and his Pokémon return in Pokémon journeys, I think the anime writers missed a golden opportunity in the Diamond and Pearl series to have an episode were Gary & Paul meet, they could've had their own discussion about training and raising Pokémon and their rivalry with Ash which then could end with them having a battle. I know I’m not the only one who would’ve loved to see an episode like that.
For me, it would be most exciting to see if Paul's attitude has changed all that much since his loss to Ash. It seemed like Paul was finally beginning to truly respect Ash as a rival and trainer at the end of their last battle, which would make it very interesting to see how their dynamic would have changed if Paul does indeed return one day. Who knows, maybe they could even start to become friends for a change?

Paul's most versatile pokemon,it does the dirty work,it can take a backseat and use defensive moves to cover up Paul's pokemon. It can use Thunder as a Counter Shield or on the battlefield to deal damage on the opponent. Can use it's tails to grab the opponent.
Definitely one of my favorite rivals in all the anime :-)

This was fantastic!! Loved going down memory lane looking at everything Electivire had done in the series! Any battle with it was great and I loved its dynamic with pikachu and infernape. Paul & Electivire we’re an incredibly powerful pair throughout the entire series and one of the best ever!

Notice how Paul treated his electivire and Torterra differently to all the other Pokémon he captured. It’s almost like favouritism on his part. Like he felt a Pokémon needed to prove themselves to be apart of his team

The most Shakespearean Pokemon battle was the final battle between Infernape and Electivire. It was the best battle in the whole series. Journeys should give this amount of adrenaline. Nice video. I hope the next one is a massive powerhouse pokemon. Like an Ice Mammoth-Pig.

Electivire is a Pokémon representation of Paul that demonstrates Paul’s growth as a trainer. Even in its most recent appearance where it played with pikachu and grookey demonstrated this.

Paul was a great rival to ash. I always assumed Elekid would stay the same like Pikachu or piplup but despite not being Paul’s starter it evolved and got stronger.
I love how the last fight. Infernape vs Electivire mirrored the first fight elekid vs chimchar.
Doing this video made me want to cover Ursaring in the near future. It's going to be a much shorter video, but it's too cool of a character to pass up.

I think out of all of Paul's Pokemon, Electivire seems to have been the only one that liked the harsh training. I mean look back at it when it was an Elekid, it acted so arrogant and condescending.

Electivire was actually a pretty good guy, stopping the ref to allow Infernape to get up. Even if it was just to try and beat it up again.
Paul on the other hand was still a dick through and through. I *throughly* enjoy watching Ash mop the floor with him
Thankfully, Paul mellowed a bit after getting humbled by Brandon. He was pretty nice to Barry after their League battle
Electivire is a proud warrior who has full confidence in both himself and Paul. The dude just wanted a real 100% legit victory against Infernape and his trainer rival.
Electivire was as arrogant as Paul. He was jealous of Paul's obsession to make Chimchar stronger

Paul is the best trainer why ash never learn from him I mean paul always check his pokemon stat after catching them & give them hard training so they can become stronger & keep rotating his team so everyone can become stronger too bad paul was given bad team during his fight with ash in the league so they can show that miracle of friendship is way more better than hardwork,thats make no sense
Seriously ash often release his strong pokemon like naganadel,goodra, & greninja and keep his weak one like totodile,rowlet,oshawott,snivy,and scraggy(his unova team is really awful & got too many pokemon with the same type)he should release them or force them to evolve or maybe give them to another trainer to train them just like what he did to squirtle & primape,that could make him look less pathetic,also he give beedril to casey always piss me off,how come he give such a good final evolution to a girl just because she like yellow & black colored pokemon seriously ash thats why he need more than 20 year to win a league(try to be more serious as a trainer ash) & alola league just a little league in my opinion because that league only have full battle during the final exhibition match so i guess that league doesn't count & orange league too because theres no orange league in the game,in the end paul should learn from the best trainer in the whole anime,Paul & the second best,Gary because he already catch more pokemon than ash in their first halve of journey

You're comparing Paul entire team to just Sinnoh one, Paul travel as many regions as Ash if Ash use all of his strongest Pokemon Paul would've zero chance even with if he use different Pokemons, Ash can't force his pokemons to evolve, they don't evolve with some kind of stones except Pikachu who don't need it. If you're going to say about Paul is better as trainer than don't forget that Paul is a failure who can't bring Chimchar special blaze but Ash not only made Chimchar activate his special blaze more than once but master it too.

If Ash had power of miracle than he wouldn't lose a league, only reason Paul win most of battles against Ash because Paul use his old Pokemons while Ash was severally handicap with completely new team or reset Pikachu, look at Paul Vs Brandon where Paul Pokemons was faaaaar weaker than TORKOAL, if Ash use his old Pokemons throughout DP series like Paul most of time than Paul would've zero wins against Ash.
WTH Paul did to make him more competitive trainer than Ash? Ash had trained his pokemons everyday as well, so many times he uses moves like competitive players in real life like using Pikachu and Swellow abilities to gain advantage, using sleep talk to counter sing and dark void and many more.
Paul proven a failure as he can't bring out chimchar special powers while Ash also trained his pokemons everyday, team them new moves and techniques, you seen Paul doing training only few occasions but Ash shown doing so many times, in what basis you saying Ash don't work hard?

You can really see why Infernape is one of Ash’s top 5 strongest Pokémon, he’s almost like the Pokémon version of Goku. Electrivire really changed for the better, going from being a rude bully to being a supportive friend.

Torterra was the one that came out and smashed anything on his way. I always liked him for being very independent. He really doesn't give a frick about what his trainer thinks (I remember him helping Grotle and then Paul telling him something like "I really don't understand you" with the most resigned tone ever). I think he's just used to his trainer is and ignores him
This mon is cool, sad thing it needs trade evolution, a fun thing about Professor Alex Silver is on how he is showing cool and awesome clips makes me want to re-watch the entire pokemon anime. I love your vids Prof keep up the great work.

The rivalry with Paul and development of Elekid are why Electivire is now my favorite pokemon! It was great to see it featured here. Definitely the most interesting rival pairing in the franchise imo.
Brandon and paul's battle was pretty emotional and i would wanna see a rematch between paul and brandon. And let paul have his own mini series of his journeys in the pokemon anime

While I would love to see Paul and his Pokémon return in Pokémon journeys, I think the anime writers missed a golden opportunity in the Diamond and Pearl series to have an episode were Gary & Paul meet, they could've had their own discussion about training and raising Pokémon and their rivalry with Ash which then could end with them having a battle.
I know I’m not the only one who would’ve loved to see an episode like that.

For me, it would be most exciting to see if Paul's attitude has changed all that much since his loss to Ash. It seemed like Paul was finally beginning to truly respect Ash as a rival and trainer at the end of their last battle, which would make it very interesting to see how their dynamic would have changed if Paul does indeed return one day. Who knows, maybe they could even start to become friends for a change?

Very interesting comparing Pikachu and electavire. It shows the effectiveness of both trainers and their battle styles
I didn't mention it in the video but Pikachu also used thunderbolt to produce stones while Paul watched Ash battle roark 🙂
I think that 1 time Chimchar beat Elekid is where he 1st knew Chimpchar was powerful. So that set in motion what would end up Electivire's desire for Indernape to get back up during their battle in the Pokémon League
