Ruby - Please if you could do a short guide to Early Modern literature, I would really appreciate it! I'm super new to the era, and aside from the Bard, I haven't experienced much from that time! Could be a fun way for you to share your passion!
What an excellent idea! I love talking about early modern literature, so would love to do something like this... do bear with me though because I would want to do it well if I did a video like this :)
I have come back to watch Ruby's videos after almost two years. I used to love watching them and they helped me build a good headspace whenever I was feeling blue. Went through a tough time and gave up doing a lot of things after that. Finally, when it feels like things are looking up, I have returned to her videos knowing that they hold such a comforting place in my heart. I'm grateful.
I am so happy you're not only learning Latin and handwriting styles, but that you're passionate about it. Without this pass down of knowledge to new generations, we would lose our ability as a society to appreciate and read past works.
True, but people should also learn how to correctly adjust the mask over your nose. The way Ruby put it on is wrong. This leads to the mask not sitting tight and therefore having no filtering effect.
I love how you describe creativity as a muscle that you lose if you don’t use it. It’s so true! May we all always have the strength to exercise our creativity ❤
I love when you share specific details from your studies like references to essays, quotes etc. I love Humanities and would love to continue my studies next year, so seeing these elements is really interesting
I’ve just found your channel a few days ago. I am in the older generation and often hear my peers moaning about young people and their attitudes. I always advocate strongly for young people and you are a shining example of what I talk about. Well done. I wish you all the success you could wish for in life.
Comment on Self-Care: Your “freshens flu” brought back so many memories for me and I feel I want to offer just a tiny bit of a story and a caution. So, II think one of the reasons I love your channel is that you remind me of me a bit when I was in university waaaaay back in 1990. The caution about self care, and the reason it puts a smile on my face to see you masking and sanitizing when you’re ill, being careful of your and other’s health, is that I got “freshers flu” about six weeks into my first term and was desperate for about 8 days, and then, thinking I was clear to forget the whole thing, got it AGAIN directly after. Unfortunately, something turned on an an autoimmune response and the resulting chronic fatigue, Myalgic encephalomyelitis, and then SLE Lupus really derailed my life. Studies show now that “freshers flu” is responsible for many cases of autoimmune illness in young women.. Good for you for prioritizing self care! Cheers and good health to you!
This video came at the right time!! I’ve been struggling a severe cold and feeling so ill because of it in the past week. I’m frustrated that I can’t do my work productively as I feel dizzy all the time, but the truth is that I should be kinder to myself and take care of my body when it needs it, especially in this kind of hard time. Thanks for your reminder!😊Please take care of yourself, everyone!🫶
I really appreciate how you check for people before turning the wheels on the movable library/archive bookcases. I don't know how many times I almost got crushed by people who just wouldn't check first.
100 Points to Ruby for winning over the cold!!!!!!! Best of luck with your Debate. Keep up the amazing work and never let anything stop you until you have conquered your goals. Always love the tour around Oxford and Jesus College. They both seem so charming and perfect.
I enjoy following you along on your university studies. The subject is fascinating. I can never get enough of viewing the architecture of the university and the city.
So glad you are feeling better, Ruby! Thank you so much for setting an example of being considerate to others whilst ill and wearing your mask. It is so very heartening to see. I hope you enjoy the rest of the term.
Thanks for this, Ruby! I'm getting over being sick for the second time in just over a week. It's very discouraging to not be able to study and to fall behind on homework. Your posting helped me remember that I'm not the only one who goes through this. I'm glad you're feeling better and I hope you continue to stay healthy! God bless!
Brilliant as ever. So glad you are feeling better. My daughter is an actual freshman and called this morning with the same exact sounding illness. My guess is she got it from spending the weekend visiting with girlfriends from 2 different universities and going out more than she has done. I stressed the mask for her as well so that she doesn’t get her classmates ill. ❤
@thenoobalmighty8790 Whenever someone like you spreads misinformation, one health professional will pass out in exhaustion. Why would you reject modern medicine when so many people benefit from it?
@@Claudia_K. Unfortunately, masks do not protect against viruses. My colleague was sick and wearing a mask, but she still managed to infect several people, including one who is undergoing chemotherapy. The best thing a sick person can do is stay at home until they feel better.
I really appreciate you taking us on your Masters journey. I've just finished law school and am likely to do a Masters after taking some time out of education like you did. Those libraries look magical, and they remind me of some of the university libraries I've visited at the University of Witwatersrand (South Africa.) While you're celebrating Oxford specifically, many of us around the world are inspired by you and can relate to your love of learning.
Hey Ruby! I am a UG Fresher and I've been struggling with my freshers' flu this past week. It's great to see you doing better and taking care of yourself!
Sat wrapped in a blanket my Granny made me with a pot of bird and blend (campfire and vampires) feeling incredibly unwell with Freshers Flu kindly gifted from my postgrad at UOB and this is cheering me up just nicely - thank you Ruby. Also excited to explore SkillShare and learn some new skills
Ruby, it would also be so great if you could do a slo-mo study-with-me video, without any talk, just you studying for 45 minutes or so… you have such a great study-energy if you know what I mean, and I‘d love to do my work for uni alongside it, I think it would greatly improve my focus, and it would be so easy for you to do such a video with all the material you already have :-). Maybe you could even do a pomodoro, with a 5 min break where you stroll around the amazing scenery and architecture of Oxford. :-)
She used to do live study-with-me from time to time, but I think she found it too distracting that she had to monitor chatrooms for trolling, inappropriate discussions, etc. It would be great if she just films herself studying for 45 minutes and posts it, like some booktubers who just film themselves reading and post it, rather than doing it live so that people can still benefit from the study-along vibe while she has better control of her video quality and study time.
its awesome that your learning more about illustration, ive been learning a lot recently about the importance of visual literacy and how undervalued it is in education but how it is increasingly becoming prominent in more careers
You have gotten me hooked on pomodoro timers! So handy and I find I am more productive in that 20 minute gap before a zoom call, for instance, because I am not always looking over my shoulder to check the time.
Every time you upload a video, I know I will watch the whole thing with a cup of tea/coffee and feel motivated to tackle the rest of my day's tasks. Thank you!
I do hope your still feeling better, I got really sick over the summer when we had some 80 to 110 winds (t-storms) came in here in Texas. Loves these videos
at 3:24 the words are "perfect" - the loop in the tail of the p is secretary-hand short form for a vowel/consonant (usually per, par, pre, etc) and the second word I think is "present" - the tail of the p goes above the letter, meaning an r is involved somewhere within the word. Love the vlog!
You’ve been on my mind a lot recently, so I was very pleased to see this video. Awfully sorry to learn of your illness especially when time is so precious. You’re an inspiration, and watching your videos always blesses me because I learn something from each one. You mentioned John Donne’s Easter sermon so I downloaded a copy. Ruby please please could you make a video about your favourite places in London? I would love to know nice cosy places to visit, museums, shops, cafes, libraries, anything!
I love your videos but I always feel sad as well. I hated school and recently I realised that I never hated learning, I just hated school and the way people always wanted me to do things their way instead of letting me find what worked for me (I’m dyslexic and have health issues so I need to be mindful what I put my energy in). In the end I never had time or was allowed to do what I loved doing. In the end that led to me not getting my Bachelors. I’m thinking about starting studying again now but I’m still not sure. 😅 It’s inspirational to see you work on something you love 💗
This makes me mad 😠 not you, but what you must have put up with. I’m not even a trained teacher I’m just a private music tutor, but “taught” a young girl with dyslexia how to read music. I asked her to do it her way, however she could best understand, I only gave her guidance and no pressure. It worked! It doesn’t have to be music, it could be any subject. I hope you have the opportunity to study again in a way that works for you. Good luck!
I would love to listen to John Donne's sermons! How exciting ... even if they are read by someone else. As an Anglican, I think it's quite extraordinary that many clerics read sermons written by others (as I've noticed in reading 19th-century literature) rather than writing their own sermons every week which is the unquestioned practice in modern churches ... at least in the US. ;)
I'm a little girl...from India 🇮🇳. I really get more motivation from your video and i'm also get inspiration from your video.. you are really so great.... More love to you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's fascinating to me how much the world has changed in just 2-3 generations. For my great-grandmother and grandmother, the most normal thing was to take a few days off and focus exclusively on health. When you had the flu, you had the flu. You didn't go to work, you didn't have to do projects from home, or anything like that. And today people don't have time to be sick anymore. It's like a special badge of pride when you come to work sick 😔
A little help for your Latin study: The accusative singular of ager is agrum. At looking at the genitive you can know what the stem of the word is. In this case it ist agr (-i is the ending for genitive singular), so the correct form of ager would be agrum. (An exemption of the rule would be when the word is neutral and nominative and accusative are the same). Hope that helps!
i recently discovered you and watching you just one video made me subscribe. i admire how calm your videos are. and so is your voice. they are so simple and elegent n pretty. i love how you share about the books you are reading/studying about and you seem so passionate about your books !
I am so glad that you are doing better!! I am soooo envious of your books module!! I did check and found a Ph.D. in Books at the University of London. If I had the money (coming from California), I would do it!! :D After years of teaching mostly Shakespeare and poetry (which I will continue to do), I am hoping to work part-time in our county library system which will involve working with the elementary school next door and instilling children with the love of books!! I still have to pass the medical exam, and then I should be able to get the library job!! :D
Oh it's good to see you actually enjoying yourself! The last two vlogs made me very worried that you were not finding it as good as you'd thought it would be. I got a "savage tonsillitis" (my doctor's words, not mine) at the beginning of my second year, so I know both how much of a damper it can put on the start of the year, and also how you can't afford to stop for too long at Oxford. The Maths institute stages a lot of plays, they have a lot of great, open spaces for it. Make sure you get time to go to Port Meadow and Parsons Pleasure. They're great this time of year. A bit wet, but fabulous. Also, plug for a mate of mine, the Oxford Gilbert and Sullivan society is doing the Pirates of Penzance in corpo near the end of November.
Fun fact (since the word popped up in your homework): the Latin word "servus" obviously means "servant", but the word is still used as a common greeting in areas like Austria and southern parts of Germany, like Bavaria. 😅 I've heard that it was originally used to express the willingness to help out if need be, in the sense of "I am your servant". 😁
I talk to myself so much lately as I write my dissertation 😅 It really does help with getting started writing as well as overcoming some of the writer’s blocks I get.
I am really glad to know that you are doing better now, Stay safe! Can I make a humble request that you make a "study with me video" like 17:53 - 18:04 set up? It was beautiful with your background sound on it. :)
I´m enjoying these vlogs so much!! I visited Oxford in July and it´s a wonderful city. It´s pretty difficult not to fall in love with it. So happy that you get to experience it as a student. I´m currently finishing (or at least I hope so) my PhD and these vlogs motivate me so much to be productive! :)
how funny the exerpt you read on colour theory! when i was on holiday in oxford last week i went to the ashmolean and visited the colour revolution exhibition, it was one of the most wonderful and interesting exhibitions ive visited in a long time :-)
I've been watching your videos since 2017, and it might sound strange, but I feel like we've grown together hahahah Love your videos ❤️ Greetings from Colombia! 🇨🇴
I think we can all agree that Ruby is the perfect role model for anyone of any age! You never fail to inspire me more and more with each video you release! Been a subscriber since I started secondary, 3 years ago, and you have helped me sustain motivation xx Thank you!!
Hey Ruby, really appreciate you're wearing a mask!! Thank you. I have long covid for 19 months now, it's absolutely horrible and wouldn't wish it on anyone. It can be so triggering for me, when lots of people have covid, colds or the flu and are just selfishly spreading it around.. They have no idea of what serious harm it can do. Thank you for thinking of others (and protecting yourself is also so important) you're always so kind and considerate. Really appreciate you showing it on your channel. Thank you🙏🏻❤️✨ (little note added on: I don't necessarily blame it on those people, think governments are responsible for taking a more active role in providing information on this, anyway wanted to add that🙈)
I'm waiting for another vlog everytime! Love Oxford vlogs, got bit addicted to them! :) :D You basically live my dreams, maybe in another life I'm gonna study at Oxford. Have a nice day Ruby!
Hey there i really enjoy your videos they are always so cozy! Just a quick little feedback: i find it quite hard to focus on what you are saying and also the written text when they are saying different things.
Ruby, you are excellent student and gets a straight As. You made great knowledge, learning, and education. I hope you getting better, Ruby. May God bless you, Ruby! 😇
You are not awkward, maybe you sometimes feel awkward. But in my eyes, you look like an interesting student who fits very well in a place with history and books.
A friend of mine did Latin in university too and she said it was very hard as it is a lot of new information in a short time. I am lucky to have studied it in school and still having the schoolbooks we used, I met with that friend to help her do some Latin from my old school book. We even discovered that the same author had written the schoolbook and the activity book they used at the university class. Long story short, the school book explained everything in much more detail and progressed more slowly, that was better for the beginning learning the basics. The schoolbook also didn't start with verb tenses and things like that right at the beginning, so for all of you university and above aged people out there it might be worth to look into kids schoolbooks for starting to study Latin :)
Should adult learners use school books? The school books OUGHT to be more kid-friendly, but they may also assume you have a teacher to explain difficult points again in other words. The main problem with school courses is that they take SO LONG: typically going from zero to GCSE takes five years, and A Level another two years. Schools do a LOT of repetition when they teach languages, but the kids forget a lot of vocabulary over each summer holiday. On the other hand, kids are usually studying another ten or more subjects up to GCSE, whereas adults would not. Adult learners may be able to use better study techniques to get through faster.
@@faithlesshound5621 yes, adults get through it very much faster. When I learned with my friend at uni, we did multiple chapters in one sitting as it is quite repetitive. The book I used in school was the same from year 6 to 8 but I don't think we even finished it. So, it was very easy to look up grammar we learned before and it even came with a separate grammar book which was also useful. It's the orange "cursus" books for any German Latin learners out there :)
I study biology & the environmental sciences and 10 year old textbook is considered outdated. However, this summer I got to read a photocopy of a 17th century botanic manuscript (by Elias Til-landz) as a part of a heritage plant course and it was just blissful. Looking at those ancient text is so mesmerizing, I envy you ❤
8:35 so relatable! I always do that to order my thoughts and make sense of what I‘m trying to type/ say. 😅 After I wrote a paragraph or page, I also read out the page in order to see if it's okay. Awesome video as always, loved the choice of music and hope you're getting well soon. :)
Ooo! I just got this cool idea. You said that you're illustrating on procreate... And we all know just how much you love tea and mugs! You could print an illustration (that you have made) on a mug for yourself... Or even gift it to someone else!:D❤❤❤❤
Glad that you're feeling better Ruby, wishing you the best ❤ I also have a course about the history of books as a material object (and publishing in general) and I find it so fascinating, I think it's my favourite subject this year and I'm so glad I took it !
Hi Ruby. I love your videos. But as someone with dyslexia I find it extremely difficult to read the captions because most of the time they are white on white. Thank you ❤️

You didn't go to work, you didn't have to do projects from home, or anything like that. And today people don't have time to be sick anymore. It's like a special badge of pride when you come to work sick 😔
Old recipe books are fascinating because they contain everything: food, cleaning products, etc. Basically, they are commonplace books for recipes.
I'm waiting for your videos impatiently. They always bring me some comfort and some inspiration ❤🎉
I wish you all the best! Sound like a lovely job.
@@Claudia_K. Thank you, Claudia. I did get the library job, and my first day will be 5 December.
Austrian here, can confirm :D
Sorry to hear you’ve been under the weather and glad you’re feeling better.
how funny the exerpt you read on colour theory! when i was on holiday in oxford last week i went to the ashmolean and visited the colour revolution exhibition, it was one of the most wonderful and interesting exhibitions ive visited in a long time :-)
Girlsie your notes are so cute omg! I love hearing all your experiences at Oxford; it looks like you're having a wonderful time :>
I've been watching your videos since 2017, and it might sound strange, but I feel like we've grown together hahahah Love your videos ❤️ Greetings from Colombia! 🇨🇴
I think we can all agree that Ruby is the perfect role model for anyone of any age! You never fail to inspire me more and more with each video you release! Been a subscriber since I started secondary, 3 years ago, and you have helped me sustain motivation xx Thank you!!
Love a queen who does optional homework just to be prepared! ❤🎉🎉
Hope, you'll recover Ruby. And never stopped supports you💓
Hey Ruby, really appreciate you're wearing a mask!! Thank you🙏🏻❤️✨
(little note added on: I don't necessarily blame it on those people, think governments are responsible for taking a more active role in providing information on this, anyway wanted to add that🙈)
I'm so sorry to hear that you have to deal with long covid, I wish you recover sooner than later.
@@CrisOnTheInternet Thank you, that's really kind✨
Oh no, I have heard how terrible long covid can be for people! I hope its not extremely severe for you?
Get well soon regardless🤧💪🏼
Lovely vlog, hope you're feeling a lot better xx being sick is just the worst!
Oxford looks lovely, very cold, but like an amazing place for an academic enthusiast. Hope you’re having a great time and by now you’re healthy again!
I'm waiting for another vlog everytime! Love Oxford vlogs, got bit addicted to them! :) :D You basically live my dreams, maybe in another life I'm gonna study at Oxford. Have a nice day Ruby!
I am glad you are getting better from your illness. 💛👋🏻
Hey there i really enjoy your videos they are always so cozy!
Just a quick little feedback: i find it quite hard to focus on what you are saying and also the written text when they are saying different things.
I talk to myself too when revising! I love that I can relate with you on that
Your vlogs are so lovely and enjoyable! I sit in the car with my baby and love watching you
Ruby, you are excellent student and gets a straight As. You made great knowledge, learning, and education. I hope you getting better, Ruby. May God bless you, Ruby! 😇
Enjoyed every second of this vlog! Absolutely adore your Oxford content ❤
You are not awkward, maybe you sometimes feel awkward. But in my eyes, you look like an interesting student who fits very well in a place with history and books.
Just in case the internet goes out, just wanted to say I love your videos, been with your, You Tubes for a while and I’m so proud of you.
your hair is so beautiful
Love to see you enjoying your study at Oxford !
Wishing you all the best ruby and don't stop no matter what comes in your way.
You inspire me a lot.
I absolutely love your videos and every week I am looking forward to watch what you post. I am glad that you are feeling better :) Best wishes
always prioritize your wellness over all else
i've watched your videos for a few years. thank you for being amazing:)
I put your Oxford vlogs on while i wrote articles as it motivates me 🤣🤣 keep up the great work!
You are in your element and look so happy. It gladens me.❤
I study biology & the environmental sciences and 10 year old textbook is considered outdated. However, this summer I got to read a photocopy of a 17th century botanic manuscript (by Elias Til-landz) as a part of a heritage plant course and it was just blissful. Looking at those ancient text is so mesmerizing, I envy you ❤
Always be in good health Ruby 💐⚘️
The Dickens novel you read a passage from sounded like Hard Times. I studied that and it’s stuck in my mind ever since.
Take care Ruby ❤
I enjoyed watching this. You make school look fun!
Hope you are feeling better now :) loving all the Oxford content!
I love your passion ❤ it’s inspiring
I wish to be this productive one day
Your room is sooo cozy
Hi Ruby. I love your videos. But as someone with dyslexia I find it extremely difficult to read the captions because most of the time they are white on white. Thank you ❤️
I was struggling too - didn’t realise it was my dyslexia!
@@east_coasttit might also just be the white on white as well
Always soooo happy when you upload Ruby!!! ❤
Can you do a video on how to plan your day. I always list the things I have to get done but they take longer than I intend so I have to re-plan the whole day!
I am ill too, I'm looking forward to the 'after' phase.
wish you speedy recovery from flu
