A notion tip: Use databases for your literature/book lists. When you make a new book an item in the database, it actually becomes a new page. This means that when you're writing an essay, you can mention (cite) the book within the text which creates a link to the book page where you can keep your notes on the book. This will make cross referencing later on in your courses a lot easier!

It’s really surreal watching this. I did a masters over two decade ago. I was working all hours the two years before to scrape together the money, so no time for all of this sort of preparation. (I do realise this is also your job Ruby, I’m not knocking it) . But the part that is weirding me out is the amount of information available to the students ahead of time and what is expected of them before the course starts. We were issued with a little pamphlet that had in it things like course dates, fees, a list of four textbooks (only two we we told to read, the other two were basically reference tables and graphs), and told when and where to show up. That was it. And before anyone says it’s because it’s Oxford, - I went to, and work for, remarkably similar institutions. Has the world changed that much? Is this the impact of technology. What do they expect realistically from students? Surely most of them are working jobs that don’t involve essentially documenting studying. The ones on building sites and in shops won’t be doing this level of prep. If it is at all possible to find out when you get there Ruby, I’d be fascinated to know what the expectations are and if they are achieved.
Same for me (I did my undergrad, masters and DPhil at Oxford in the last 15 years). The crucial bit for the masters is to just try to read and re-read your way through the reading list as far in advance as you can because once it starts you will have absolutely zero time for anything other than the essays and tutorials etc. As we were told at the time: "Studying is what you do on the holidays; term time is when you put it into action."
@@jakecavendish3470 interesting. We didn't get the reading lists ahead of time. There was no reading list! Not in this way. That is called research. And we were the ones who did it. Perhaps it is a subject disparity then.
@@dees3179 It could be dependant on subject. The reading lists we got were basically core texts and then some recommended reading. They weren't hugely extensive though and I don't remember the stuff outside the core texts actually being all that useful in the end. And to be honest the way Oxford works your tutor has a tendency to just disregard a reading list and say "well I _expect_ you to have read Tacitus as part of a normal human's everyday reading" 😒. Obviously for DPhil there is zero reading list although at tutorials your supervisor may say "read so-and-so on X."
My friend in high school got me into stationery and she recommended Moleskine. But after trying out Leuchtturm myself I have been exclusively using the brand since! I now have my fifth bullet journal using the dotted ones and I’ve also been using a softcover on the side for journaling! Hope you like them. They’re really good in my opinion!

this video was perfect!! my uni is starting in around two weeks and I really am stuck with the thought of what I should still do before classes start.. so thank you Ruby
You might already know of this, but I’d suggest studying in the Duke Humphrey’s Library. In my opinion, it’s the prettiest library in Ox! However, since the books are really old, there are a few rules to follow (can’t bring in water, everything needs to be in a clear bag…). The Bodleian provides clear bags and a locker though so it’s honestly fine. I think you’d love it!
Ruby i love your videos so much i started school back Monday all these back to school videos you posted have made and helped me feel motivated for school starting back which well school for me isn't that stressful because I'm homeschooled but thank you for making these videos luvs to you 😊
Hi Ruby ! I have received the planner (i had to pay more money than i thought to get it to France but that is another story and obviously no fault of yours or the company you work with) and unfortunately it arrived really damaged because the last page was built in as the first but folded to sit as the end page anyway - so of course it is now in a really bad state. It also led to damage to the spine of the planner (which now looks very fragile to me, I do not think I will be able to carry it around). I went to all the shops that help with these kinds of things in my area and none of them have the equipment to fix it. I hope this review can be seen so that hopefully this does not happen to someone else ! I hope they can check for that sort of mistakes :)
I am really impressed with how you organized your Notion space! And it took you one hour and a half, which to me is insanely efficient considering the complexity of your setup. Well done ❤
Hi Ruby - would you make a video about how you use your lists and organisers once you've generated them and how you prioritise or update them and stay on track? Particularly for lists that can't be completed fully in a single day x
what a great timing ruby! i was just scrolling youtube to look for videos to watch and the notification popped out and i clicked on it so fast 😭 have a great dayy ❤
As a fairly recent graduate of Oxford, there are a few things I wish I'd done more often. I wish I'd joined a team sport. I got put off by the hockey lot in first year and then never picked another one up. I wish I'd tried to get to more formals at different colleges. I wish I'd spent more time socialising with people from my college. I spent a lot of time chatting to people outside my college. I wish I had spent more time up at Parsons Pleasure! Love it up there, especially in the summer. I wish I'd gone to more bops! I also wish I'd gone to more balls but now I have the money to do so I tend to go with some of my dPhil friends in the summer. St Johns Ball was very good this year. Balls are more about who you're with, so make sure you have good friends to go with. We went to the rescheduled lawsoc ball after all that money was embezzled and despite the wedding vibes it was great fun. Spend time eating in college, also. Don't lock yourself away cooking in your flat. I'm not entirely sure I know where your college's post grad accomodation is, but I have some idea. Eating in hall, especially at breakfast, is an important way to meet and chat with people. I had a tab for a history teacher, and he gave me a gem of advice: if it comes down to having friends and getting a 2:1 or not having friends and getting a first, choose the 2:1. Make sure you make lots of friends.
I feel like I’m going! I’m excited for all these Oxford videos! PLEASE do a Babel theme vlog when you’re there - even as I’m asking I know you’ll be too busy but it would be so dark academia…

This might sound off the "bloomin'" wall. But I found myself imaging I was yr cat watching you do all this. Lol.😂 I don't have a cat, but luv all animals. I have seen cats watching thier owners intently doing things from mundane to exciting. And cats 🐈 generally seem to get almost the same enjoyment regardless their 2-leggeds activity. Aside from meals (in the bowl, outta the hand, off the counter/table), that is.

Ah that’s so exciting! I hope you have the best start to the term (and thank you for buying the planner!) ♥️♥️
So excited to see more Oxford diary vlogs. So much amazing content can come from this.
Hey Ruby, i think you are ridiculous, ridiculously Fabulous. I'm so glad that i came across your videos. They are very enjoyable 😅
I'm going to uni one or two months later and i'm also arranging things which makes me messy and exhausted. Your video gives me the energy to continue.
We need a vlog of you and your sister because you seem very different
i’m starting my undergraduate at Oxford in October!! i’m so unbelievably excited, and maybe i’ll see you around!
Ruby i love your videos so much i started school back Monday all these back to school videos you posted have made and helped me feel motivated for school starting back which well school for me isn't that stressful because I'm homeschooled but thank you for making these videos luvs to you 😊
Ah this makes me so happy to hear! Good luck with the new school year!
😄 My fav part, when Ruby just purchased the pad pen then she says "there you go, I just spent an "extortion" amount of money on an Apple Pencil!" 😆👍
i'm gonna finish my bachelor's in English philology this year and i'm so excited!! definitely taking some notion inspo from this vid
Ruby, your planner arrived today! I am so in love with it!
Ruby, your meticulous methodology for planning and preparation is really amazing.
There are many tips which I should take notes.
i’m starting my first university year next month, and your videos are a joy to me
Can’t wait for all the Oxford content! ☺️🍁
I am really impressed with how you organized your Notion space! And it took you one hour and a half, which to me is insanely efficient considering the complexity of your setup. Well done ❤
Your use of Notion and your patience while setting it up astounds me ! I hope to know the software as good as you one day
You’re so unbelievable organized. I’m in awe. I wish my poor old fragile brain worked like yours. ❤
Ahh I’m definitely not always so organised! I have a penchant for academic organising but am less good at everyday admin haha!
Dear Ruby, I love your planner, seems to be sold out though. Any chance they'll be in stock again soon? Hope so 😊 Lots of love ❤
I started my Master's in Linguistics this week, I'm so excited!!!
I would really love to hear about the ins and outs of having a small business like yours.
Make sure you make lots of friends.
thank you so much for commenting this
omg i am just seeing this now! I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!
hahaha Cant waitt to watch Ruby's Oxford Diaries!!
I feel like I’m going! I’m excited for all these Oxford videos! PLEASE do a Babel theme vlog when you’re there - even as I’m asking I know you’ll be too busy but it would be so dark academia…
Great video with lots of organising inspiration. Thank you Ruby ❤
I’m not going back to school (graduated 10 years ago) but I love your back to school videos!
I'm starting highschool soon and i really hope i can be like you when im older
I remember watching your video about not getting into your dream university (Oxford) but know you made it!! Congratulations 🎉💕
hope you like the leuchtturm! (i was one of the comments recommending it) i just started my english masters yesterday :)
hey ruby! ive been watching you for years now. im starting uni this september and im studying animation, and your vids, although we are studying different things, have been so helpful & motivating for me. its 3am but i want to plan food shopping and buy essentials🤣😭
I love the look of your Notion. 📖 Mine is all over the place and totally unorganised. 😂
Preparing for a Masters is so exciting, I remember being so excited to prepare for mine a few years ago. 😊
Very smart, cultured and intelligent woman!
Your content is pure joy ❤
Always a good day when Ruby posts
This might sound off the "bloomin'" wall. But I found myself imaging I was yr cat watching you do all this. Lol.😂 I don't have a cat, but luv all animals. I have seen cats watching thier owners intently doing things from mundane to exciting. And cats 🐈 generally seem to get almost the same enjoyment regardless their 2-leggeds activity. Aside from meals (in the bowl, outta the hand, off the counter/table), that is.
you can get an replacement with the same specifications of the apple pencil
Hi Ruby!:)
Love your channel. So excited for you! I have been following you since I started university and I am now in my final semester! Wishing you the best at Oxford.
Could you please share your notion templates or give a tutorial on how to create them? I would like to link all of my readings on a page and organize them since I have the syllabus ahead of time.
Can you show us your updated study organization system on Notion, please? ❤
Wishing you the best Ruby 👏👏
I know this is so unrelated, but ur voice is so calming 💌
haii! I am so happy you are entering this new chapter of your life! I wish you the best, from sunny Greece :')
