Hi Ruby 🌼 I'm a viewer from Italy and I always watch your videos even if I rarely comment. Your poetic soul always makes me reconnect with the desire to cultivate love for the little things and for literature. Your videos are a gift for the soul and they make me want to explore England and its countryside. Watching these videos motivates me a lot to create art, write, make videos and explore 💚 thanks for sharing all this ✨

Ruby, I relate deeply to your lifestyle. I'm often teased for taking solo trips and enjoying so much of life by myself. People just don't understand it. Your videos reassure me that I have soul sisters around the world who share my interests.
This is a wonderful video. I've always wanted to see the moors. Charlotte is my favourite writer of the Brontë sisters - Jane Eyre is one of the most atmospheric books ever written.
Thank you for all you do. x

I just booked a trip to Paris - and I am going by myself. Nobody understands why I am not going with my boyfrieden, how I dare to visit "the city of love" on my own. I have never been there and surely want to see different things than my friends or my boyfriend would like to see. There is nothing weird for me about solo trips. And honestly... I think many people are just too scared to spend time alone or to break a "society's rule" or something.

Agreed. I sometimes feel so weird for going out and doing things by myself. I’m extremely introverted so I like being alone. When I do go out in the company of others it’s with my family.

Hi Ruby, new subscriber here! This video is really comfy, cosy & very well made, good job!
You probably won't see this, but my family is from Yorkshire, & when I went over on my OE 29 (yikes!) years ago, I really felt like I was coming home. A weird feeling, but comforting at the same time. I adored the Moors, the intensity of the winter wind blowing me over, the scrubby grasses, the tiny rocks beneath my feet, the frosty air and grey sky.
The village was adorable then, & still looks it now. The Parsonage was incredible, & I still have a photo of a younger me on my fridge, standing, grinning like an idiot in front of the Bronte Parsonage, and I loved every single second of my time there.
Hello from New Zealand, by the way, and massive congrats about Oxford...good work!!!! 🙂

But I took many a trip to the Haworth (and the moors in general) and York of course! It just filled me with joy seeing it again as well as reminded me to read Wuthering Heights again. When you said you didn’t know about the random boulders on the moors - it was probably glaciers! They were so huge during the last ice age they carried very large boulders then when the glaciers melted the boulders were dumped, and that’s where they’ve been since! They’re called “erratics” ☺️

I greatly enjoyed this video and you are up in Yorkshire Dales territory, which is talked about extensively in the All Creatures Great And Small series by James Harriot. I’m loving the version of the books so far on Masterpiece. There’s a lot of humor in addition to all of the veterinary services in the book and series. It was my mom‘s favorite book series and I never thought I would get into it but it’s good.

I'm from the North of Catalonia, and I spent the last 10 days solo travelling from Lancaster to Carlisle through the Lakes, doing some literary tourism, following the paths of John Ruskin, William and Dorothy Wordworth, Samuel Coleridge, Thomas de Quincey... This kind of trips "give life to thee", and that was one of the best experiences I've ever had, especially because going solo you talk to lots of different people. I'm glad you enjoyed it too, and highly recommend visiting the Lakes!

Hey Ruby, I've been following ypu for so long and think you put a tremendous effort documenting your life. My question is, does it take away from the actual experience? I remember trying vlogging and realized I can't fully immerse myself and enjoy the moment, because I'm concentrating on camera angles, setting up camera to film myself walk by just to come back and pick it up..I couldn't do it in the end. How does this work for you? Maybe it's just second nature at this point.
Anyway, thanks for your videos they are very enjoyable and inspiring, and it is a lot of work if you don't have an assistant.

I loved watching the BBC's "To Walk Invisible". The scene where Charlotte discovers Emily's poetry hidden in her room and reading part of "The Prisoner" over shots of Emily striding across the moors made me buy Penguin's "Emily Bronte: The Complete Poems". I'm not a big fan of poetry but these were something special.
Oh and of course that heritage railway line is where "The Railway Children" was filmed.

I live in the UK now and Wuthering Heights is one of my fave classics ( I especially loved how Bronte described the moors as one would describe people, and described the characters as one would the moors, and yet it makes more sense, it's genius really ), and you inspired me to go to Haworth and do this walk, hopefully soon. I appreciate your effort in capturing the moments and sharing them to us. You are truly an incredible soul. Please do more of these bookish trips please. You are made for this!

I'm from Yorkshire and I truly wish more of it was still like this and not just the countryside parts. Most towns are massively run down. It's sad to see the loss of history and culture in those parts. There's a beautiful square in the city I live in (in Yorkshire) that dates back to the 1700s and in the next few years it's going to be gentrified which is really sad.

Yorkshire is a beautiful place, especially the Dales. I am however thinking you're stalking me 😀 My son went to Exeter uni so I spent some time there, I lived near Oxford and spent ages walking around it, and I was born in West Yorkshire and spent many many weekends hiking the Dales, especially Swaledale and Wensleydale. What you got to say for yourself young lady?? lol. I was a little surprised you went to York but didn't see around the Minster which is a lovely church. I'd comment though that people really should not go walking in the Dales without a map and compass, it's amazing how fast the clouds come down to ground level and you're lost, although smart phones may make this redundant!

Thank you for sharing this. You are so so brave to take that walk all alone! You are an adventurer! You come alive when you are on an adventure in nature. Truly wonderful Ruby and congratulations for such lovely vlog.

I have to say, I don't usually like poetry, but your writing makes me really want to read your poetry. You sound like such a great storyteller. When you publish your book, I'll definitely be buying it. 😊
Also, for some reason, you remind me a tiny bit of the main character in Lady Chatterley's Lover (2022). I don't know why though. 😅 I really enjoyed the film too (although certain scenes were a bit 👀👀 haha). This has been on my mind for a few days and I debated whether I should tell you in case you wouldn't like the comparison, but I just felt like I had to.
I also really want to visit York as well! I'm quite interested in Viking history.
And finally, you've made me want to buy a Kindle and I really love your cover. 😊

Well I've seen way too much 401, criminal minds and whatnot to spend that much time alone as a woman in a misty swamp and a deserted house😂

Fabulous!! Thanks so much for sharing this trip with us, Ruby. Jane Eyre is my favorite, and I've read and taught it for decades. I'll probably never get to make that trip, but you did everything I wanted to. Best wishes at Oxford!

Ruby, this is such an inspiring video. I'm writing from Australia and planning to take time back in Europe to visit away places of great poets and writers next year. It was wonderful that you showed us the poem on death and took time for us to visit with you Sylvia Plath's final resting place. This is the second video I have been honored to watch. Thank you so much. Carolyn

I went to Haworth back in October, 2019 and you stayed in the exact same room as mine at Weavers guesthouse. I'm glad that I can see the roads that I took in your video.

Thank you Ruby! What a wonderful trip and good to be there with you. We visited Bronte parsonage back in 2019 on a very hot day in July! Only managed the walk part of the way due to the heat. So I am especially interested to see your walk to Emily's inspiration for Wuthering Heights! Have a great week! Greetings from the highlands of Scotland!

Hi Ruby, I actually made a New Year's Resolution to read more classic literature such as the Bronte classics. I have kinda fallen out of it but I have actually finished Sense and Sensibility last week and I'm currently reading Pride and Prejudice. It was actually thanks to you that inspired me to get back into the habit of reading. Although I do have to join the Not A Jane Austen Fan Club. Seems to me that even though the characters are named differently, they're basically the same person. What does everyone think?

Hi Ruby, thank you so much for sharing this video! I always thought it's gonna be difficult to go around solo travelling if we don't drive, but absolutely great to see you utilising the train to go all the way up north and go into the countryside! Did you have to change trains at a few places? x
