Pro (LOL) tip: If you're doing this on the Acura TSX 1st gen, you will *need* to take off the power steering unit (the unit above the alternator) in order to comfortably get the alternator out. It's easy to do. Just loosen the two 12mm screws holding it on and then move it out of the way, keeping the hoses attached. I did not know that and spent over an hour frustrated trying to get the alternator out. Someone pointed this out to me and it is recommended in the Acura service manual.

One small problem- mine has only two bolts on the front of the block unlike this where there are three easy to reach bolts on the side of the block facing forward! It's a whole different adventure getting my big fat paws in there!

Vital" as you do this" (mine was a 4 cyl), find on the web a diagram of the serpentine belt- sketch out a diagram -I HAD to use a pipe- cheater-bar on a 14mm box end wrench AND manage to do the "water pump - no ribs" pulley for last, Critical to see / know the pathway, and to have bulletproof ability to pull back the tension pulley, I HAD to use a pipe cheater bar on a 14mm box end wrench, "sloppy attempts" with an additional box end wrench for leverage was too sloppy, didn't allow enough control for a "one guy job". It's a bitch of a job with the belt aspect, doable, but humbling and difficult, cheater pipe on the tension pulley being Vital...

Sorry buddy. Just finished this job on a 2003 Honda Accord V6 3liter. Not a chance getting alternator out without removing the following.. Fan shroud, plastic cover over spark plug wires and spark plug boot. I had alternator unbolted but not a chance of removal without doing so. Easy job but just no room to get it out...My alternator started pumping out 18 volts and several intrument lights started lighting up. It fried the battery due to overcharging..

re: "sorry buddy", no he's not in error, you say yours is 6 cyl, this video was on a 4 cylinder. Difference in how cramped, obviously.

Voiceless narration...cant even tell you wrench sizes...when I see people who are so scared to talk or get their hands dirty by having to wear gloves, it's awful hard to take them seriously.
