@@themopar426 It took a fair bit of dedication, and a diverse diet of music from Jaco Pastorius and Django Reinhardt to Motörhead and AC/DC. (Don't knock that last one either; they may have only made one album 18 times, but they have the tightest most disciplined rhythm section in the industry.) But there's nothing like starting off with Thunderfingers to light that flame in your heart and put stars in your eyes for the possibilities of the Bass Guitar.
John Entwistle is the best bassist of all time, I wish he was still here creating more amazing basslines. Also, can we talk about how Roger pretty much still looks the same as he did in the 70s?
Wow! What a concert experience that must have been! Love the clash! What opener like you said. I was a junior in high school then and living on the east coast. lol
Been a fan of The Who for many years. Also a fan of Rush for many years. Pretty sure Geddy Lee was inspired by John. Interesting to note John seems to favour the low end of the bass, while Geddy goes all over it! Both masters of their instrument!
this DVD was shot at Wright State University, Dayton,Ohio. Audience shots were edited in from other shows. Gary Glitter was there but he was cut out and replaced by PJ Proby. Glitter was shitcanned halfway thru the tour because he kept fucking up. After his legal troubles I think THE WHO wanted to distance themselves from him as far as they could. Anyway, this was the first show in the states, Monday, Nov. 4 1996. I was there!
Zac Starkey does a more than competent job of drumming for the band, but where do you find a replacement for the "Ox", be great if someone could then we might have a chance of seeing and hearing the Who perform live again in a way that they should. That is if Rogers voice can hold out......he is brilliant on this one by the way!
The thing you have to remember about Zac is; he was Keith Moons Godson......I met Zac and his dad about 4 years before this was shot during the Allstar Band Tour that Zac (19 at the time) played drums on stage right and did an amazing job. He is not Keith.......but he is his Godson.....so there is some nice Karma there. He and his father were both wonderful human beings.
@Gothic1982 John is the only bassist I've ever heard who plays the bass guitar as though it was a lead guitar. Pete has said of John that The Who actually had two lead guitarists, LOL!
Well not out of sync when I watched it. What can we say?! If you know the original then you will know that this is a great live performance. Entwhistle's solo was class! (can't help wondering it sniff had something to do with his confident gusto). Quadrophenia is arguably one their best album. What a band!
If I am not mistaken, that is Pete's son, Simon, playing electric. I saw this tour, and would happily go see them again, even though Entwistle is gone.
I would do that but I no longer have the video I used. It was on my old computer that died, and I borrowed the DVD from a friend who went away to college. I'll try to see if I can borrow the DVD again.
That's his younger brother Philip i believe is his man. Peter isn't a great lead guitarist more of Rhythm guitar player his brother is a great lead guitar player
could be the best video i have seen on here. and i am not the whos greatest fan.think they were a great band but will get more into them after watching this.
@CentraCross Internet high-five, sir. I really think the people who take the time to slam Ringo should instead spend that time really listening to some of his better tracks. He didn't suck, he just didn't deviate form the classic backbeat much - he was a transition to today's drumming, in a way. Listen to Tomorrow Never Knows or Rain; hell Magical Mystery Tour as a whole is Ringo's peak. But this isn't about Ringo, is it? It's about his son and the AMAZING BAND he drums for! THE WHO FOREVER!
I remember seeing The Who for the first time in 1989, and John's fingers flying all over the place led me to calling him "Eddie Van Entwistle". I gained a new appreciation for him and his role in the band after that show.
I'm not a big who fan, but the guy playing the base is playing serious stuff! That aint NO joke. So many guys that can't play a guitar end up on base, but this guy looks like a great guitar player playing base. WOW.... Who is that guy????
So the drummer is Zac Starr then? He's a good drummer but no Moonie. And I would hazard a guess he doesn't travel by train much, or he would know where all those cute little tom fills come from. This is what British trains used to sound like and still do, to some extent.
The original Quadrophenia album is without doubt a work of genius! The film was a bit shoddy and tacky in places, though good fun! Perfoming Quadrophenia with running commentary is also well tacky!! To enjoy Quadrophenia you have to listen to the original Vinyl recording, not the Cd, which has been ruined with a re-mix!! What the hell happened with you pete? why fix it if it aint broke!!!
IMAGINE GOING TO A WHO CONCERT AND THEY OPEN WITH THIS RIGHT HERE ! OH MY SOUL !
John Entwistle was one of the best musicans ever existed. RIP Thunderfinger
I learned bass by watching this man.
Sleep well, John Entwistle; 1944-2002.
it was june 27 of 2002
@@roymassey2083 Not the 19th of forty-fouruary then... 🤪
Love bass he was the best a
you should be damn good!

I think this is the best live version of 5:15
John Entwistle is the best bassist of all time, I wish he was still here creating more amazing basslines. Also, can we talk about how Roger pretty much still looks the same as he did in the 70s?
For me this is the best line up of all the players and versions of 5:15 !
Holy shit, John's bass is incredible. What a great band.
from england to the world the best band on stage THE WHO long live pete and roger ¡¡¡RIP, JHON AND KEITH from monterrey mexico we salute
Love this song, sing it to myself in the car nearly every night and some mornings when I really am "out of my brain on the 5.15"
With this fingers every woman will be grateful. John Entwistle
THE GREATEST BAND I EVER SAW LIVE !
WHO RULES OK !!
The Ox at his best, but very impressed with Ringo's son on the drums.
All Pete Townsend's Brother Is Working That Lead !
Man, Entwistle is on FIRE! :-)
he ALWAYS was.
look up the version from Live at the Royal Albert Hall concert.... ever better.
goes to show why theyre the best live act ever. even when theyre old.
AWESOME!!! So glad I got to see them, back in '82, in Oakland!! It was: "The Day on the Green", and The Clash opened for them!! WHAT A GIG!!! :o)
Wow! What a concert experience that must have been! Love the clash! What opener like you said. I was a junior in high school then and living on the east coast. lol

Mr. Entwistle played like he was from another planet...on a totally different level. Incredible stuff!
I saw The Who do the Quadrophenia concert in Pittsburgh with Billy Idol
Great zak starr ❤
The BEST BASS PLAYER, EVER!!! :o)
Electric guitar player is Pete's younger brother and the drummer is Ringo's very very talented son Zak Starkey
I think he's brother plays a better lead guitar. And Zach....What can I say ?
Absolutely NO ONE can do what John does. Solo starts at 4:53
Virtuoso John Entwistle. Grandes The Who!
Pete's kid brother on lead guitar - rock it Simon...
And played the hell out of that lead on this song!!!!!!!!
I know I would be amazed. I love Townshend!
This was in 1996. They did a Quadrophenia Tour. Played the whole thing!
this DVD was shot at Wright State University, Dayton,Ohio. Audience shots were edited in from other shows. Gary Glitter was there but he was cut out and replaced by PJ Proby. john entwistle is the best musician who ever lived
Daltrey will never get old. He's 65 and still going (and he's got his hair left, as well :P).
AND, guys, don't forget, he was ALSO a great beissesst, in addition to being a great basest, and a great bassest.
it was thnx to john i picked up the bass guitar so thnx rip john sadley missed legend
Interesting version, with additional guitar, keyboards and brass......
wow entwhistle was so good! i want his bass
thanks for the video!

@Gothic1982 John is the only bassist I've ever heard who plays the bass guitar as though it was a lead guitar. Pete has said of John that The Who actually had two lead guitarists, LOL!
Pete has said John could have been a good lead guitarist, but one of them (Pete, Roger, John) had to defer and play bass.
Yap and I started to play the bass because of J. ''Thunderfingers'' Entwistle.
John Entwistle RIP buddy you were the best!
Another interesting fact about this show is that it was'nt mentioned anywhere, not on the concert shirts, or the DVD
Well not out of sync when I watched it. What can we say?! If you know the original then you will know that this is a great live performance. Entwhistle's solo was class! (can't help wondering it sniff had something to do with his confident gusto). Quadrophenia is arguably one their best album. What a band!
Damn, never saw this , The Ox was on fire!
If I am not mistaken, that is Pete's son, Simon, playing electric. I saw this tour, and would happily go see them again, even though Entwistle is gone.
Simon is Pete's brother, but given that there's a 17 year age difference between them, I can understand thinking he was his son.
you can tell that his voice is damaged . . . sad . . . these rockers hurt themselves and pay in the end. Great video and effort well done by the Who!
I would do that but I no longer have the video I used. It was on my old computer that died, and I borrowed the DVD from a friend who went away to college. I'll try to see if I can borrow the DVD again.
made my day
The tour where John started doing a 5:15 solo -- and before Pete started doing a huge solo before and/or after John's.
Una versión de puta madre !
yeah, why wasn't Townshend on lead? who was that guy?
That's his younger brother Philip i believe is his man. Peter isn't a great lead guitarist more of Rhythm guitar player his brother is a great lead guitar player
2 people took uppers and downers, but did not buy a ticket to Brighton...
Absolutely!
@PeterMayer You bet they played ALL of Quad during those '96 and '97 tours - man were we spoiled or what?
Petes brother kicks ass on lead guitar
I KNOW RIGHT........WISH THEY WOULD HAVE GAVE HIM MORE VIDEO TIME.
Monday Nov. 4, 1996, Wright State University, Dayton, OH.
could be the best video i have seen on here. and i am not the whos greatest fan.think they were a great band but will get more into them after watching this.
Now that's a proper rock band
Guess what, buddy? They're playing all of Quad in 2012!! Tour started 11/1/12 in FL.
& RIP Keith Moon!
Is that Zak Starkey on drums? He looks like Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber!
@CentraCross Internet high-five, sir. I really think the people who take the time to slam Ringo should instead spend that time really listening to some of his better tracks. But this isn't about Ringo, is it? It's about his son and the AMAZING BAND he drums for! THE WHO FOREVER!
I'd still step on you to see The Who!!!
@cliffplesha Hey, what DVD is this from? thanks...
Now if im not mistaken that's pete's brother on lead guitar right?
And you are right he played the hell out on lead this so
@cmcmeeks "this other guy" on guitar is Pete's brother Simon, who's excellent, but obviously ain't Pete!
i typed 5 15 because that my birthday and look at that thiers a song by a great band. now whats this song about lol
The EVH of the bass...
I remember seeing The Who for the first time in 1989, and John's fingers flying all over the place led me to calling him "Eddie Van Entwistle". I gained a new appreciation for him and his role in the band after that show.
Who's instead of Keith?
I'm not a big who fan, but the guy playing the base is playing serious stuff! That aint NO joke. So many guys that can't play a guitar end up on base, but this guy looks like a great guitar player playing base. WOW.... Who is that guy????
wrsawy John "Thunderfingers" Entwistle
Isn't it Pete's Brother on guitar?
Is this from Dayton? I was there!
that roooooocks!
what year is this
coreect..the busiest bassest ever
@nomad2369 Thanks...
Its out of sych?
So the drummer is Zac Starr then? He's a good drummer but no Moonie. And I would hazard a guess he doesn't travel by train much, or he would know where all those cute little tom fills come from. This is what British trains used to sound like and still do, to some extent.
@wgfa The Who Tomy & Qudrophenis Live with special guests. Rhino recordfs
With that haircut Roger looks like Jerry Lee Lewis :P
was in sync for me x
@nomad2369 Geat, thanks!
3:10
I see you still haven't fixed it. It used to be in sync. Why don't you delete it and then upload it again.
When was this show ??
19_ _ or 200_ ?
Cyril CCH 1997
I though Pete was still on...
right hand side of the video screen.
most ppl think Geddy Lee from Rush is better...
but fucking hell...he's nowhere near Sir John Entwistle
We all miss him dearly
Geddy once explained that he couldn't play like Entwistle because "I don't have his fingers."
apple strumping
The who are fuckin gods
my fried egg makes me sick first thing in the morning :]
@mLaNo96 Skill and sniff.
sweet as fuck
i mean how fuck did john do all that
No one's talking about Simon shredding guitar... But Thunderfingers is the best

In fairness, Roger HATED the narration segments, as he felt they killed the pacing of the show.
FAN - [fookin] TASTIC, The OX, was the best, Mark KIng are ya watching.
i know :P
felt like saying that xD
I wonder what Ringo thinks of his boy being a better drummer than he. If I were him, I'd be proud.
Why is it possible that such a guitar noob plays the lead guitar besides townshend and entwhistle?? Love the song
Who knows? Why did Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young have backup singers? It's one of the mysteries of life.
I wasn't.
4:52
lol true!
