I had the pleasure of being driven around Silverstone, at a very high rate of knots, by Chris at a Mission Motorsport beneficiary Veterans event. He was in his own E63 estate, or his dog car as he called it. He got told off for drifting past supercars by the marshals but he just got on with it. He loves a fast estate. That ride was a highlight in my life at a time when everything else was darkness. He helped me get back on the road to recovery. Thank you Sir.
I've actually driven this car, in sedan version as well. My only criticism is those seats. Being 6'4" it crushed every single outside bone in my body plus my nuts were pressed back in every time I used the brake anything more than gently. After a 30 min drive I looked and felt like unfolded teenager's laundry.
@@gottliebdee263 he really does, although I had a gut feeling back in the day he’d end up at TG eventually. The quality of a CH review without added scripting for ‘entertainment’ is bliss to consume.
Its always a good day when a "Chris Harris Drives" appears in your youtube watch list, its even better when its a new M3 Touring. Thanks for all the hooning about with the epic camera work folks.
Thanks, Chris, for making us folks on the other side of the pond feel even worse about the lack of a G series estate option in the USA. We'll just have to continue to live vicariously through all of you and videos like this one are both the medicine and the disease!
The BMW CCBs are incredible, but in the wet you need to be mindful as they can take a few long seconds to clear surface water and actually bite. Had a couple of code browns when forgetting
Man I wish they had made this car 20 years ago. Mind you I could have an E46 touring with a real engine sound made for a lot less than £100k. Fantastic review as always Mr Harris.
That's because the average BMW driver believes an immensely stiff suspension and super heavy steering automatically makes the car sporty. BMW has tuned the suspension according to what most buyers want, which makes the suspension of the G80 just right for track use if you keep it in comfort mode. Sport or track mode are too stiff for the road or the race track.
My all year can do all car is the M4 Competition x-drive Convertible; it replaced a 992 S 4W Convertible . BMW nailed it with the new M3/4 these are superb drivers cars.
@@samthoma2719 I learned to drive in 5 gear cars. Gears have gotten closer, mostly to pull better after an up shift, and yes, produce more rotation and less heat over a test cycle.
Great video and mega to watch Chris just do his thing . But I'm sorry 100k for a family estate I couldn't careless if it had 1000bhp the world has gone mad 😂
Been saying the same about BMW for a while now and not just full fat M. In every segment they are smashing the competition on a like for like spend. And amazingly these should end up being very reliable cars as long as you are liberal with your oil changes.
The best thing of Chris Harris and the editing team have is that they know perfectly when to shut up and let the car do the talking and when to add music
Went from an rs4 to an m3 put a CSL style grille on it, lowered it, and a carbon front splitter. BMW performance and looks are 🔥 night and day all rounder vs audi and merc
£100k for an M3 is ridiculous. That’s M8 money and Chris was griping about that price when he reviewed it. It’s the depreciation which is going to bite though. They’ll be worth half that after 30/36 months.
@@MaCcAM40a3 yeah that's exactly the complaint lmao. The m3 used to be attainable for the middle class car enthusiast. Nowadays, noone is outright buying one cause at that price, who would? and the people who drive them are financially irresponsible idiots who can't actually afford the financing plan they're gonna be paying off for the next 8 years... Any time i see someone in a new M car it's a 24 year old guy who drops two thirds of his monthly paycheck on their car, and will continue doing so for the better part of a decade lmao.
I bought a 2017 M2 cause of the two great videos Chris Harris made on that car. Loved it the time it was under warranty but had to trade it in for my C7 Corvette cause I couldn't afford to keep it up without the warranty. Plus the Vette is cheaper to insure oddly !
Yeah sadly performance BMW's tend to get "borrowed" from people's driveways in the middle of the night. Recently got quotes for a brand new Golf R, £100 more a year than my lowly 2015 reg 2.0 Audi TT. A 4 year old M2 Competition was nearly double!
Chris Harris you`re a Man after my own heart . I love estates cars I only have a Focus 1.5 ecoboost estate at the moment but i`ll wait a few years and search for one of these , even with the ugly front end and all , at a price i can afford . Will you please please team up with Clarkson & co it would be the ultimate car show .
High praise. I want one. But the sticker price is outrageous. With finance costs having shot up, I wonder how many they can sell. I’ll be waiting for the used market to get going before dipping my toe I think.
In addition to potentially being the best all-rounder, i'd certainly say it's likely the best 'i don't care what it looks like, when I'm inside it and it drives this well' car too. It's all bloody wrong to look at, that thing (though the bigger arse saves it a little). But... If you could, you would. Still. Because of what it is, and what it offers.
Chris, wonderful video, I’m liking these reviews. Also, it was great to meet you in Ontario last year, I could tell you were really into cars when I asked you about Toyota and Subaru’s new 86/BRZ. I was wondering if you would ever get a go in that car and film a piece on it? I’ve seen Jethro drive it for EVO, itching to see you do the same.
I always get excited seeing Chris' videos like this....until I realize I live in the US where our estates are 9" taller so they are appropriately equipped for the treacherous Whole Foods run.
Well it is good that Chris likes it. I thought it a bit to game boy and lardy game boy at that. I'm surprised he finds it comfortable too. It seems M division are full of surprises.
The M3 Touring is the best one car garage ever. I know the grilles are horrible, but if I had to love a car with that grille THIS is the only way to make me do it 🥰❤️
Is it too stiff for a daily though I wonder. I have a Giulia QV and am toying with the idea of going G80 next but I feel like the Alfa has struck the perfect balance between comfort and sport across its suspension settings. Have heard the M3 is much more aggressive all the time.
Chris Harris is for me is the only natural successor and only person capable to the original cast of Top Gear. He has the humor, the driving skill, experience and personality that fits the show. Those 2 other knobs they put beside him were cringe, unnatural and terrible for the show. Seeing them bullying him was infuriating
