The fuel quality thing is a really interesting one. I remember Vicky Butler-Henderson doing a great piece on Fifth Gear about fuel wuality and using a dyno and the same car to show the difference between the fuels. She could genuinely feel a difference on the road between V Power and some of the others. It was good nerd telly, actually

Ferrari has 4 issues with the 296:
    1. Like Chris Cooper said, its a V6 not a V8.
    2. Its turbocharged so it doesnt sound great.
    3. No one wants a hybrid, they break and are expensive to fix/maintain long term.
    4. The touch buttons on the steering wheel are a disaster.

I'd push back on the sound, if you actually hear it it sounds damn good for a v6 and definitely sounds like a Ferrari. Sort of a baby v12 sound, however that's irrelevant if people believe it sounds bad, because that's what matters

Two points you are so bang on right with, one being the Ferrari V6 engine not being a “proper Ferrari” as it’s not a V8. Remember when Porsche brought out the Cayman cars with 4 cylinder engines and the poor sales of those 🤷🏻‍♂️ And two, I didn’t know anything about Esso’s 99 fuel so their marketing team needs fucking off 😂

The v6 sounds great, and it outperforms the previous v8. There wasn't a single journalist that wasn't blown away by the 296. They may be right about the typical buyer being turned off. But they're still selling close to msrp used.

    Fiat Panda 4x4 - £1500
£6000 total, your get away car is one of the best modern hot hatches and your stash vehicle is light and nimble just like the jimny Harris mentioned however a little more under the radar as a suspected off road get away vehicle.

Just to add, higher octane fuel doesn't affect power unless the engine is specifically tuned for that particular fuel. If your car runs on 95, putting 99 or even 102 in it will make no difference. However if you've got a car that's tuned for 99 then putting 95 will adversely affect performance.

I really didn't like the f 296 when it first came out, mainly due to the weird colour detailing on the models reviewed. I recently watched another review of one finished in single tone green and that was much easier on the eyes. Surprised to hear there are so many for sale on auto trader though. That number sounds terrible for such a boutique car only produced recently. Anyway, these podcasts are great fun to listen to. Thank you.

Feel i can comment on the F286 debate as an owner of one….and is an interesting one. There are 2 big reasons for the price dips. One is the rule that the dealers and Ferrari imposed that to buy a new GTS, you had to buy a new GTB first. This has meant that as the GTS’s arrive there is a flood of GTBs hitting the market. Secondly because interest rates have risen, the number of £250k ish cars being sold has dropped - add the 2 together and you get a lot of GTBs hitting the market and the prices therefore dipping. It is an interesting point about the 6 cylinder engine. I would say on that if you drive it, and Chris Harris’s review backs this up, it is a phenomenal car with a great sounding engine that is better than F8 and 488. However i can’t help agree with Neil….i wish it was a 12 is better than 8 is better than 6…..it shouldn’t be and it shouldn’t matter…..but it does. However i still love my 296 and will be getting the GTS next year….

In the Russian-speaking world, it is very common to flash your alarm lights as either a thank you or an apology. It then becomes a matter of the length of the flashing (1x blinking - I recognise you did something for me, but hardly needed to as I could have done my move anyway; 3x blinking - I really appreciate your gesture; more than 3x blinking - something is wrong and you didn't put them on for me).
As a motorbiker, when going slowly through a traffic jam, I either bend my helmeted head in their direction or stick out a foot as a thank you, if they see me coming in their mirror and make space by moving to the outside of their actual lane.

Prada didn't just 'double the price point' of Church's when they bought them, it's widely known that they ruined the craftmanship in the production of the shoes. Despite Manish calling the people who weren't rich enough to buy them (or indeed a new Ferrari) 'crappy' , they were probably less ignorant than those who carried on buying them.

And that was my Ferrari analogy - they don't really care about their customers, they want the money!

Brilliant. Loved Chris's comment about losing the cops in London in a Golf (no doubts). Same as Misha Charoudin beating you around the nürburgring in a MkII golf whilst you were in a GT4 or similar about 10 years ago (sorry, cannot remember the exact Porsche GT car). All about skill and local knowledge...... On that day, Misha showed this

After several trips to Germany, I'm lost to understand BP fuels in the UK. BP 97 is clearly not good enough, but why. Ultimate 102 and Super Plus 98 exist in their portfolio, as does E5, 95. Like you said, V Power or take the bus! The essential start to the weekend has been restored. Thanks, gents.

The van driver was probably a biker. We have our hands busy so it’s either a nod going forward or a leg drop ( gearchange side) if I overtook and you moved over or indicated that you’d seen and moved for me.
In Europe it’s a V for victory but that’s easy when you’re on other side of the road!

I always forget this gets uploaded early on a Friday... Every week is a lovely surprise (the rare occasion a terrible memory is a bonus). Appreciated as always gents.
On the Ferrari thing, I want to love the brand so badly, but they make it really hard nowadays for many reasons I won't bang on about. I have previously owned a Ferrari, but for the first time ever I'd rather have a current Aston than a current Ferrari model and a Porsche is a no-brainer.
Anyway, the discussion on petrol was far more enlightening than I expected... I'm absolutely guilty of just thinking it's all the same, but that's due to the complete lack of ANY discussion or information in the motoring press about it to educate drivers. How is it not a bigger conversation, or a conversation at all? It's a legit scandal.

What?! As someone who leaves all cars with tanks full, clarification in next week’s episode please.

    • @colinbennett
      @colinbennett 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Top tip. Don’t fill your car before winter. Try to get the tank as empty as possible and add 5-7 litres of fresh fuel with STA-BIL storage grade fuel stabiliser. Run the car for 5 minutes to circulate the stabilised fuel before putting it away. When spring/summer comes around fill the car with fresh fuel. This way you’ll be adding fresh fuel to a little stabilised fuel, which is better than running a tank of 6-8 month old fuel. During these storage months I like to start my car once per month - running up to operating temperature, just to keep things moving. A few slow laps around the block on a dry day to avoid any salt on the roads keeps things lubricated. If you start to run low on fuel during these winter startups, add another 5 litres or so of fuel with the fuel stabiliser. I’ve been doing this with my two cars and both engines are like new and the cars run beautifully. 🍻

Worked in the fuel industry best petrol is
    Shell 99
    ESSO new 99
    Tesco 99
Costco 97 (purely price to performance)
    Bp 97
all the fuels are all the same at base level it is just the additives that makes them better.

You guys need to understand that there are foreigners such as myself traveling on the roads that have no clue what you’re talking about on driving on the roads let alone nodding or flicking a finger or flicking your hand up to wave. Plus that stuff just isn’t done there’s no rules of the road practically in America. But I certainly try to gain an appreciation of all of that while I’m there. And am I right to say that you guys don’t have tinted windows and windshield/windscreen where you can’t even see the occupants? We have lots of cars that you can’t even see the occupants in.

People giving the nod for a thanks are likely motorcycle riders, it's a common greating and thank you on bikes 😎👍

  • @csd128
    @csd128 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

There's more to a nod than meets the eye. Firstly, there should be proper eye contact and this can only be achieved under a specific relative speed limit and under very specific weather conditions at certain times of the day. This is mainly due to the lighting conditions. In Britain, or elsewhere where it rains a lot, you may a water ingress on the windshield which will abrupt your visibility. Additionally, the rake of the windshield may introduce glare, so one must only apply the nod in a certain subset of vehicles. And of course, a nod at night may be seldom seen due to the aforementioned glare.
Next, a nod up is different from a nod down. And an acknowledgement of the type in consideration should only be a now down. A nod up is only acceptable if it is immediately followed by a nod down and the now down should be much longer in travel and to either side and not down the centre line of the face. Therefore, the nod up in such a maneuver should be slight and quick, followed by a much more slower and longer and more purposeful nod down.

You are a Japanese business executive for a JDM car manufacturer. You have gotten a juicy promotion heading operations out of Vancouver Canada. As an executive, naturally, your daily vehicles will be provided by the company (no need for practicality considerations). Thus the criteria for the two cars are as follows:
The first must be a car produced by your chosen JDM employer that was never sold in North America (Imported cars must be 15 years or older in Canada). This car must be cool and novel to your fellow Canadian car enthusiasts so you can quickly make friends in you new surroundings, while also showing off the illustrious history of your employers brand.
Price: 100,000 Canadian rubles, not including import fees.
The second must be from an era when Japanese cars were disguised as a USDM cars (see examples below). These cars are a curiosity to a Japanese national and will get a laugh from your friends back home. Your final build will be inspired by Japanese car culture. Bonus points if your employer also produced this car.
    Price: unlimited budget.
    Car examples:
    Dodge Stealth = Mitsubishi 3000gt
    Ford Probe = Mazda 626
    Chevy Sprint = Suzuki Swift

The fuel industry don’t talk about it, we know, and it is apparent many wouldn’t understand.
Even Darkside Developments know more about UK fuel quality than most, because shock horror, they tested it.

I’m ashamed to say I’ve also shown relative ignorance towards fuel in performance motorcycles as I was always told it’s mapped for 95 and anything more won’t see a difference on a stocker. But with the increased ethanol the 99 v power is worth it for the extra range you get, especially on a bike.
