  • As promised, 1PM, sorry for the delay.
Pretty epic demo, it's actually coming on game pass too so I might circumvent the need for a press copy anyways, but would have it in my hands sooner in that case.
Wish we had more demos to rifle through, the FF16 one looks pretty coooool, but PS exclusive, lame.
    Anyways,

itll also be on Game Pass so its subscribers can get it for free. anyways, i havent played the demo myself but i have seen some of my friends play it and stream it and weve talked about it during it. weve found out that different weapons parry differently when it comes to weapon breaking. so in the start you can choose the 3 builds, Quality, Dex, or Strenght. so the curved sword, thrusting sword and the greatsword. and this is where the things i didnt like come in. so basically, the smaller ones, rapier and scimitar, they take Longer to break enemys weapon. you have to parry it more times than with the Greatsword. so the big greatsword will break a regular minions weapon in one parry while the other 2 take alot more tries. and this is probably even more times for bosses while the greatsword will probably break boss weapons faster aswell.
and this is a problem. the greatsword has the most damage, has the biggest defense during blocking so you lose the least health, and since its not a true parry but a perfect block youre always blocking so you always get these defenses. and due to the greatsword (GS) protections, and its high damage, if you hit an enemy After taking damage while blocking, you will always refill your exact HP back to full. but the rapier and scimitar defend you less and deal less damage so if you hit an enemy after a block you dont actually recover the full amount instantly.
so the Greatsword - the biggest weapon with the Best Damage, Best Range, Best Defense - also has the most powerful Parry because it breaks an enemys weapon far quicker than the smaller ones. There is no down sides to using GS and Strenght. meanwhile the Smaller weapons bring absolutely nothing to the table - less range, less damage, less protection during blocks, and Worse parries in a game All about Parrying, cuz it breaks the weapon slower than the GS. it seems the devs were Strenght mains in Miyazakis games and just made it the best and made other things suck.
Miyazaki always had a vision. Things had upside and down sides. Medium shield has better Protections than a small shield, but it has a Worse parry. Small shield has bad protections but the Best Parry. So youre forced to make a Choice - as it all should be. There isnt one do-it-all thing unless its some magical spell. and with Weapons, Dagger Parry is better than Curved Sword parry. also each weapon type in Souls games always has a purpose - ups and downs. big weapons weight alot, maybe you dont wanna level equip load, you can decide between light armor and a heavy weapon, or heavy armor and a lighter weapon - in LoP it seems most armor is lighter at least the one we see in demo so again no real downside to using big weapons. i could go on but this is what turned me off from trying the game at all. i like to express myself in souls games and the best thing about them is truely the freedom to do whatever you want - no matter what weapon you pick, its gonna be good and you can beat the game with it.
but in Lies of P if i have to parry a minion 50 times for his weapon to break with a scimitar while knowing at the back of my mind "If I had a Greatsword which has better range, better damage, better protection, I would break his weapon in a single parry" well that is just Annoying. so in the end, while they offer alot of freedom with the weapon modifying and there is also a skill tree if u talk to geppeto at the very end, i think neither of those two things can really save what shouldve been a fundamental rule in the base game. anyways, nobody should let my criticisms stop them from enjoying the game but this is kinda why ill probably be skipping this one unless it gets changed.
    sorry for the essay.

      Always appreciated dawg.
From what I noticed the trade-off between GS and smaller swords was less stamina consumption per swing allowing you to fit more attacks into a single cycle w/o pause. I'm more of a GS guy tho, so it worked out well for me and most enemy's weapons broke after 2-3 parries, I don't recall how long it took to break Parade Master's... but as far as I can tell its purely just a defensive advantage, it doesn't really change the danger associated with combat, instead shortening an attacker's range. I'm sure mobs get reduced damage, but at least in Parade Master's case I didn't notice any difference.
A LOT of people said its Bloodborne 2.0 which absolutely makes zero sense to me outside of the aesthetics... which isn't even the same as Bloodborne's just mildly similar. It's more like Sekiro, but minus the refinement that game boasts surrounding not only its combat, but its mobility too.
This game is incredibly stiff, and that's where it reminds me most of Demon's Souls 2009. Lies of P is SUPER raw, I'm sure I mentioned that in the video, I find it more surprising based on what it could become versus what it is right now. I think its absolute ceiling from what I'd seen in the Demo is... like an 8.2? Which for me means great. 7 - Good, 8 - Great, 9 - Amazing. But, thats only if the actual full release expands on the ideas the demo presents and actually evolves them, instead of just sitting on them and walking you through the game in the exact same style.
Think about DS3 and how exploration and bosses progressively get more challenging, there's more to consider, more things to watch out for, and generally from the High Wall all the way back to Lothric Castle the game has conditioned you to be able to handle any threat the game can think of by the time you hit Grand Archives. I hope Lies of P can do that, but I doubt they will, its incredibly hard to pull it off, especially trying to mimic a style that a guy like Miyazaki created, no one will ever capture that same essence in HIS genre. But, Lies of P looks a lot more interesting than Wo Long, Thymesia, and Mortal Shell at least... well imo.
I think I missed the skill tree, but I agree, if its just slow-walking parry gameplay throughout the entire playtime I'd definitely get very turned off from it.
Regardless, I'd much rather buy AC6 and probably will after seeing if performance is alright, or if there's a demo, but I might give Lies of P a real shot on Gamepass, though I wanna check out Starfield too. I also have... many other games I need to play too hahahah

@@iamiceTV i might give the demo a try just to see for myself though im fairly confident in how things are just from observing my friend alone as he did alot of testing on mechanics as i was spectating. anyways, your video was very well-made and informative. very nice 🙂

@@DaggerPrince It's only about 2 hours long, and that's just me walking through looking for secrets cause I love exploration (didn't find any :/)
I think you'd enjoy the final boss fight, Scrapped Watchman was really fun and quite readable/easy to parry. Definitely felt like the highlight of the demo and best representation of LoP's combat
