I like that you explained the size of the jig head, type of lure, how fats it falls, rod length and the technique you use. As a beginner fisherperson, I really appreciate your video. Others don't share the details you have shared which makes a big difference. I've taken notes and will try this. Thank you.
Get yourself some crappie jigs, use some high visibility line. Simply pitch the jig out, close the bail on reel and watch the jig sinking. Your watching the line, and as it falls if anytime it starts to go the other way a bit set the hook.
Richard you are the only one I know that can catch a crappie and put him in the bucket, and it turn into 5 crappie!! LOL LIVE FOR THE THUMP MY FRIEND!!
Thank You I bought the Cool -Ven lunch bag. I live in Jesup Ga. and I fish every chance I get. I enjoy watching you. I work for a mining company as a heavy equipment operator, and many times I eat my lunch cold. Now hot lunch everyday .
He is Soo smart about fishing. all he does while fishing is talk about the techniques and what he's using. I love it. one of my favorite TH-camrs definitely! He reminds me about my grandpa who passed when I was about 7. keep up the great videos!!!
Any day is always made better when The Machine uploads a new video. Just like how I learn from a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt to get better at grappling, I go to Richard Gene to get better at fishing. Thanks to you, my fishing skills have increased exponentially since I started 3 yrs ago after over a decade away.
This video is incredible! I haven't been fishing in years and I'm preparing to go next weekend. Thanks for explaining everything in great detail, I really appreciate ya.
I finally found someone who does it all and not just boat videos, thank you for posting bank fishing videos I don’t own a boat so Ive never had good luck with freshwater down in SETX the woods are too thick for me to cast in spots. I mostly wade saltwater and bank fish for saltwater fish.
Got a tip for everyone , BECAREFUL walking on the rip rap ! I was walking the rocks yesterday , throwing jigs , had a rock roll and next thing I know I'm in the drink ! The good news is I hung on to my rod & reel ! And I ALWAYS carry a change of clothes for emergencies , paid off yesterday . Woooooo !
@@oldmanfred8676 , Yes Thanks. The second I realized I was going down I pushed towards the water cause I didn't want to land on those jagged rocks. It was a mix of big and small rocks and busted concrete slab. I've fished off rip rap for 50 years , that's the first time in the water. Not a bad average but it only takes once to mess ya up !. Fortunately , just got soaked . Scared my grandson , He hurried over to help me out. Think I'll take the boat next week ! 8 )
@@wh8085 I slipped once on some fresh small rip rap fishing a lakeside of a dam and tried to save my rod successfully but fractured 3 bones in my hand. My buddy looks at me and said guess this trips over and I said "not happening. I came to fish" lol. So we fished the next 4 hours and caught about 20 hybrids in the 2-8lb range and had a blast.
I really enjoy watching you bank fish. I have learned a lot, and am putting what I have learned into practice. I still do not have your sixth sense on finding fish, but that is part of the fun. Thank for the video, and if you want to, make some more bank videos because I cannot get enough of them.
I fished for crappie this spring like that, just swimming a little jig slowly through sparse weeds. Was insane fishing, the black crappie were JET BLACK spawning colors and caught over 100, with mayb 5 casts not producing a fish. Had a blast. I think white bass and crappie fishing with small jigs is the most fun fishing
I just cooked 4 Crappie over a campfire last weekend. I'd never done that before and it was soooooo good! Crappie good eating and easy to clean. Highly recommend it. Great vid as always my man!!
My favorite crappie rod was an old fly rod i replaced the eyes with spinning rod eyes. Then i used an ultra light spinning reel with 4 pound line. I could use it to gig along the bank or I would use a bobber and set it at whatever depth I needed. I use a 1/8 oz chartruse jig then cast out past the school and retrieve nice and slow. Worked great every time.
Richard, I have fished Ditto Landing numerous times only to catch rocks and sticks. I am sitting here in amazement while my wife is laughing hysterically. You could pull a crappie out of the Sahara!
The accent and speech patterns are priceless!! Plus this fellow can really catch fish 🎣!! You know a true fisherman when foul weather conditions are irrelevant!!🤣🎣🤣🎣
I love that little area under the bridge brother!! It looks so peaceful and just amazing spot to sit and fish :) thanks for the video man we appreciate you!!
Yeah, I noticed they fenced the area around the bridge so no one would dare jump off that bridge. When I was a kid going to Ditto Landing, you would see that way too often in the summertime. Kids and teenagers used to jump off that bridge into the water as a thrill. I would've never even dared to jump off that bridge.
Thanks for sharing tips, very helpful. I also love bank fishing videos b/c that's all I do. I've seen some of your other bank fishing videos where you share tips on location. That was very helpful, thank you so much.
Since the temperature dropped and got cold out, bank fishing for crappie has been very much improved…..I’ve caught more in the last week then the whole summer….from the bank that is, love fall!!
@@ARCSTREAMS - The crappie come up shallow during the fall when the weather turns cold to feed and fatten up for winter….when winter hits they go to the deepest parts of the lake to find the thermocline.
I appreciate you doing bank fishing videos, it is the only kind I can do. I’m still trying to figure out what lives in my area, how to catch them, and how to cook them. Northwest Arkansas is quite a bit different than the small, icy lakes in the Rockies that I grew up fishing for trout in. Keep up the good work. 🎣
Thanks for the great video. Reminds me of fishing with dad. We always fished around sunken trees in the Spring. BTW, made my mouth water just thinking of frying them up
Richard gene I really enjoy watching fishing shows . Richard I am from Odessa Missouri and I fish below the dam at the Odessa city I thank tomorrow I'll try crappie fish . Richard when I'm crappie I use the Bobby Garland jigs .

Really well presented video, very clear explanation and example. Thank you. That long pole is really effective the way you use it. Reminds me of the old cane poles without reels. The long cane and your light modern pole can accurately place and activate really light loads. When technique is as good as yours is, of course!
Thank you so very much for sharing this video with us sir and yes fishing is a sport like no other. God bless you Richard and your family sir. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏😊😊😊
richard gene you are so helpful especially for me when i watch you videos i take the advice to any body of water and usually ill catch em crappie are one of the top fiah i love catching so thanks for all the great tips. god bless
It has never occurred to me you could count how many seconds the sinkers falls to find the depth the fish are at and that you can maintain that depth by slowly reeling it toward you. Thank you so much.
One technique I am using lately and I get more hits is that I use a size 8 hook on a bobby garland, tail bit cut off, I bring it up and then drop it again. The crappies swim up and hit as if its a dead minnow. No weight what-so-ever. at the same time, in windy days, the wind carries the line as if the minnow is swimming in the water column and that works great also. its slow and tedious but worth it.
...when it comes to Bluegill and Catfish - I can definitely slay them with ease.. I love your videos, my plan starting this Veteran's Day is too learn how to Crappie fish..keep the videos coming...
You know I haven't seen you in a long long time all of a sudden I seen you when I was scrolling through TH-cam and I've got big of it and here I was subscribed and this is the first I've seen you in a long time I mean it's been a year

Richard thanking viewers for all that they do when in reality we are all thankful for everything he does .
