I had this surgery. I had my wisdom teeth removed, then I had braces, then they moved my lower jaw back and left my upper jaw alone. I will soon have my braces moved again and I should be all set before I turn 18. I am still recovering because my surgery was yesterday :)
Damn. There’s a girl in my Spanish class who has an underbite where her jaw sticks out over an inch from her upper. This makes it hard for her to talk. I wonder why she didn’t get surgery for that. Her too and bottom teeth and almost 2 inches apart
Hi! Thanks for commenting and sharing. Here are a few things that may be contributing: Many people don't know there is a solution their bite problem. Also, I've experienced that some people realize there is something wrong, but they can't explain what it is exactly. Lastly, surgery is expensive, and not everyone has the financial means to afford it in combination with orthodontic treatment.
Well I had a severe jaw joint degeneration since past 10 years and now I’m 6 months post op TMJ replacement surgery and im doing great so far still have a little partial numbness but otherwise everything is great.
😮have started on my crossbite correction first as my underbite is very minor. So i dont need surgery for it thankfully but yes i will go through an extraction on the front lower teeth
@@GraceModozieP I can't recommend self-treating. That can be dangerous. You can visit with an orthodontist specialist to get more information about how they might be able to help.
I'm 19.9 years old and I have an underbite but the thing is that I don't feel pain or difficulties in chewing or speaking so nothing is uncomfortable , and people don't even notice that I have an underbite , do I really have to do a surgery ? and is it possible to align my teeth without recovering the underbite?
I’m also 19 years old with an underbite. You will need surgery because if you don’t it will cause problems for you later in life and get worse if you don’t treat it soon. Chewing for me is fine. Speaking (it depends). My airway is not fully open due to the underbite. I also have a class 3 underbite so it could be different than yours. When I got my braces a few years ago they said they have to do the surgery with braces on still so the rest of my process can go smoothly.
If you’re not in any physical or emotional discomfort because of your underbite, surgery is not necessary, in my opinion. It is possible align your teeth without correcting your underbite, but sometimes this can make the underbite appear worse for some patients.
@@RileyShaw-ry7xz Thanks for sharing your experience for others to read. I’m only thought: Every patient’s teeth and bite alignment is different. Their circumstances are different. Which means their customized treatment plan for correction will be different. The way your underbite is being treated may not be the way to treat the underbite for the other person who commented on this post. 👍🏼
It depends on the case, and everyone is different. I have successfully treated many Invisalign cases for patients who are in that age range with elastic bands, but case selection is critical. If a patient has a skeletal jaw discrepancy that is too big to be corrected with elastic bands alone, then orthodontic treatment in combination with jaw surgery is likely needed.
@@jetboutiqueorthodonticsHello , in a underbite case , just a short question , if the bite is aligned in one side and at the other side is not , does it need surgery or just braces or orthodontist tools ? Underbite space is 4 millimeters . The more time go , the more teeth get damaged and seems like lower jaw is moving foward . I would really appreciate an answer
My suggestion would be to meet with an orthodontist specialist for an in-person evaluation so they can study the specifics of your case/problem and offer solutions. 👍🏼
Hi! I had braces last year and it's almost 1year and 1 month with braces.I Was having a underbite/class 3.Now my teeth are perfectly set but my jawline is litter frontier. My orthodontist suggested me chincap will it work for me?
I need surgery as my underbite is as almost as forward as you had shown on this video but I keep getting rejected at the UK orthodontist as I’m an adult and nhs doesn’t want to cover the cost for my surgery. I am now considering my only option since I can’t afford jaw surgery but just braces that can possibly get my teeth as close as possible. Would you say this is worth it? also can my teeth shift back to its place if surgery isn’t done? Thank you
I have a class 3 bite and I’m not sure if my jaw is done growing just yet but to fix an underbite could I just do braces and rubber bands or should I just get the surgery? Depending on if my jaw is still growing or not?
Noooo please don’t I had the same thing and I got braces at 14 to “fix it” they only reced your lower jaw with rubber bands. After 5 years of braces and so much pain I’m looking into surgery

Does removing all 4 of wisdom teeth when you already have an overbite/receding lower jaw make it worse aesthetically? I also have crowding
Nope. Extracting wisdom teeth has no effect on one’s aesthetic appearance.

How do I identify which jaw needs to be fixed?
