I watched this video two days ago and immediately ordered Chemical Guys New Car Smell. It came about two hours ago. I did exactly as you suggested and the difference in my vehicle is incredible after such a short time. It smells just like a brand new vehicle. I've been searching for a product like this for the past 30 years but never could find one that even came close to a new car smell. This one is definitely it! Thank you very much for taking the time to create this video.
Love it! It works so well and the smell is just right!! BTW, when I used it later I discovered the instructions say "shake well". Makes a difference on how long it lasts! Enjoy!
@@sstressfl I'm sure glad you told me that little tip about shaking it first. I didn't read the instructions, either. Imagine that! A guy not reading instructions. 😁
@@ScottALanter It really makes a difference on how long it lasts! And yeah... I mean we read instructions. But usually only after things horribly fail lol
One of the main reasons why new cars have that smell is because of the adhesive used in the interiors. One time I bought a tube of contact cement to repair some shoes and it smelled just like a new car.
I have been using the Chemical Guys for a couple years now and I always spray it in the footwell with the AC running. I recently got their leather spray and use that along with the new car and it smells amazing!
Excellent. Spraying disinfectant through the windshield air intake, changing the filter and keeping Chemical Guy's New Car Smell on a rag under the seat goes a long long way. Especially with ventilated seats circulating scent.
Yup, I watched this and bought it straight away from Amazon. And yes. It def smells like a new car smell! I put a few sprays on a microfibre cloth under my seat and it is a strong smells so I expect it will permeate throughout the vehicle in due course as this video has explained. The directions say to spray it on the carpet under the seats and def not on plastics of any kind. Same affect with the rag, but you can take it out if the smell is overwhelming you in case you spray to much. Never smelt anything like it in my life, it actually smells like a new car!
You can always put an Ozone machine in the car for a few hours, then run your air (recircular) for about thirty minutes before you shut it down and open up the car. Yes, the car will smell "ozoney" but that stuff you are using will then take over from there.
Ozone will deteriorate your plastic, 30 minutes is sufficient. Until you eliminate the source with something like an ozone generator, you're just covering up scents.
Ozone machines 100% work. Got a truck issued to me at work that someone must have smoked 2 cartons of cigs a day in for a year with the windows rolled up. I cleaned like a madman but the smell wouldn’t ease. Ran an ozone machine for two 12 hour shifts and it disappeared. Those things work like a charm.
You should try this if you haven't already, try removing your seats at least the front seats then use some cleaners or higher a detailer to clean out under your seats or to clean all of your fabric.
Oh I agree. You really need to dig in deeper if you have a scent you can’t get rid of. I had a car that was so bad (a 79 Aspen Wagon that I built into a sleeper) that smelled like sweaty stink. No amount of cleaning helped. I replaced the carpet and seats. That did it 👍
I remembered when my parents get a new car. That smell was very good smell in new cars. All of my cars never had that new car smell. There were slightly used when I first get it. They were about a year or 2. Only one car was less than a year when I got it. I haven’t smell that new car smell a long time not since the late 80’s or the early 90’s. It was a good smell for me.
And the only new car smell that is genuinely new car smell….. comes from a new car. And your right it’s wonderful 🤗 this type of spray has been used since the 1940s by dealers to simulate the new car smell. I like it a lot. I prefer it to the scent of perfumey scents. It’s pretty darn good 👍
Lots of good suggestions here, but might I add back flushing the AC and cleaning the coils. Pretty easy to do. Just find where it drips condensate from when the AC is running and back flush it from there. You won’t believe the crap that will come back out when you’re done, and it will smell so fresh.
I know it’s an older video but a lot of odors come from the back/trunk areas where they throw blankets and dirty clothes. You can also hit your new cabin filter with a few sprays. I wouldn’t spray and immediately drive it because it’s pretty strong if vents are pointing at face.
I later tested the spray in an inconspicuous location to make sure it didn't stain my carpet. It did not so I sprayed it in the trunk assuming Horse gear might have caused the scent. I also sprayed the floor boards. It neutralized the odor wonderfully. And that winter I did not smell horse for 3 months. The new car smell faded slowly but the horse smell was gone.
I agree! So many people do not take care of their cars and yet they are usually the 2nd most expensive thing in your life after your home. I work hard to keep my cars clean inside and out.
My first vehicle in 1999 was a black 86 Chevy Blazer, and I kept it showroom washed and waxed. I used the Ozium new car smell and it was this exact scent but they changed the formula. Two weeks ago I bought a new used truck and use this and man all the nostalgia of being 16 in a clean ride came flooding back.
I’ve bought CG Leather scented air freshener for years and it works awesome as well. I’ve never seen their new car scent, so I’ll have to give it a go on another car I just picked up.
Have both and the odd thing is they smell very close to each other (the two bottles I got do). I take the cabin air filter out, spray a towel and put it in the glove box and run the car windows closed on air cycle to force the scent in the vents. Then a spray under each floor mat and the towel goes under the seat. I don’t and didn’t have bad smells in my car but like to maintain the new smell and help eliminate any odors from food that’s hauled in my car.
✨just a note ✨ what you inhale / smell, you are actually ingesting. The smell becomes a part of You. Better to keep things out if you want your body/machine to run well. Don’t stuff the air-intake ❣️ much love for all that you do share 🙏
It might be safe if you're in and out the car. But I agree, be cautious of chemicals that could, OVERTIME, lead to lung cancer. The reason I stopped using continuous air fresheners at home. We use only essential oils.
As a pro detailer I can say, Chemical Guys New Car Smell doesn't smell like a new car. I suppose if you're used to your car smelling like a barnyard, then it probably does resemble a new car...anything probably would at that point. It can be used to kind of neutralize mildly unpleasant odors for a bit, and allow a stronger air freshener to take hold. The only thing that would bring back the ACTUAL new car smell would be to replace all the plastics, vinyls, carpets, and mats with brand new, then let the car sit out on a sunny day with all the windows rolled up...let those plastics off-gas for a couple days...
I’ve said in many comments the only thing that smells like new car is a new car :) this scent has been used by dealers since the 1940s. It’s a simulated scent. I like it.
Trouble is, you become nose blind to the smell of these air fresheners as you get used to them and you can no longer smell it and have to spray it more and more to get the same effect. Ive had air fresheners in my car that i could no longer smell and i thought were completely dead and somebody else gets in the car and immediately comments on the nice smell.
My mom used to be a smoker and by the time I needed to use her car when mine broke down, it stank with hundreds of cigarette butts all over the interior. The only thing I used to get the smell out was dawn dish soap, some oxyclean and a water extractor. I just used a medium/hard bristle brush to work the soapy mixture into everything and it worked right off the batt. She did have cloth seats though, so it was much easier to hit everything.
Wow thats a serious clean up! :) I smoked many years ago and I made my 97 Camaro smell terrible but after a good cleaning with an extractor and some upholstery cleaner it smelled great! Thats why this horse barn smell was so frustrating for me. Like I said in the video if you cant beat it, hide it! :)
@@seemarie I have rented a homedepot unit and finally bought my own bissel at walmart (has heat!) and it works very well. I have saved many interiors with it :)
One tip I tried: Get one of those lil bottles of air freshener that come with wooden sticks in them, cut the sticks in half and maybe don't use all the sticks (intended for household use) and use some adhesive velcro on it, that will secure the bottle to the carpet and won't spill. The smell will last couple months, as long there's liquid left in the bottle.
I use an ozone generator, roll up the windows and let it run for about an hour. If you catch a whiff of it while it's running it smells like chlorine gas, works on every smelly car I buy.
Yes. New cabin filter. Spray Lysol into intake vents with a/c running fresh air, windows open. The Chemical Guys is on my shopping list, but for people on a budget? Toss a couple dryer sheets under the seats 😉
Along the same Idea I use a old depleted air freshener can, the little flat one with the cage on top that has a piece of cotton like material in it... got it going through a car wash in their boutique. I spray the cotton block every 2 weeks and put that under the passengers seat and a little on the cars cabin filter. I was looking for a longer lasting better smelling air freshener than the scented oil I use, I will definitely give the Chemical guy one a try. thanks for the tip.
I have Toyota Corolla 11th gen bought in 2020 with 10k miles on it. Kept it clean inside, cleaned seats and panels with damped microfiber cloth after every two to 3 weeks. Still smells great.
This indeed works. I bought a used vehicle a couple years ago and the scent has been in it since purchasing. I did a thorough cleaning and found an old air freshener tree tucked in under the back seat in between the tool box cover and carpet. I think the key is to confine the exposure to air...maybe?
Excellent technique. I highly recommend taking out the seats, cleaning them, taking a high quality fabric cleaner concentrate, with it clean the floor mats with the pressure washer and with great detail wet vac the entire carpets. At the end just air everything out for 2 days (in the sun if possible “it’s a theory of mine that the suns UV rays kill the smelly bacteria”) spray the fragrance on the carpets, put the seats back on, 1-2 sprays of the fragrance on the cabin filter and you’re about done. After putting everything back if that doesn’t get rid of the smell nothing can.
I bought a '79 Dodge Aspen wagon when I was in college.... it had a 318 v8! I turned it into a sleeper and went drag racing. But the interior smelled like nasty arm pit! Never could get the smell out of the seat but I did manage to wash the carpet in a bathtub and let it dry in the sun. I bought Jaz racing seats :) Smelled great after that. I'm willing to go the extra mile but the scent is so minor compared to that old wagon, I dont mind a couple spritz once in awhile of chem guys new car smell :)
I bought a nearly new Escalade ESV that had been smoked in (probably cigars, not cigarettes.) After a complete interior deep clean including steam, ozone machine, and chemical treatments there was still a slight odor. I tried masking it with various air fresheners but the very slight odor was still there. Having used many other Chemical Guys products, I decided to try the "new car smell" spray. I applied a few mists on the carpeted surfaces and then removed the cabin air filter and applied a couple of small squirts into the HVAC system. To my surprise, the nicotine smell was completely gone! Not just masked, but GONE. I wouldn't say that this product isn't exactly a "new car smell," it's more like a new leather smell. Mostly neutral and not overpowering. It's actually the exact same fragrance as the Chemical Guys leather conditioner, which I also use. Highly recommended!
Absolutely! I ended up spraying my trunk and floorboards. It lasted longer. And I realized it has an amazing ability to not just mask odors but to neutralize the odors. The instructions say shake well before use and TEST an inconspicuous area before spraying. Its possible it could discolor so test first 👍
You might consider cleaning the A/C ductwork. If the bad smell you're experiencing is due to bacterial growth from, well, horse residue, a good douching with an antibacterial should cure the problem. One I've used for years is the Liqui Moly A/C System Cleaner, which is more of a professional tool but there are other solutions available.
That’s a good suggestion but in this case it’s seats and floor and trunk. No smell comes from the duct work. It that’s a common area of stench for a smokers car.
Excellent info. I had my car get rained on, left window open. Tried everything to get rid of the mildew smell in my car. Even leaving the doors opened, a number of times. I live in the south. Lots of humidity. One day I went back home to west Texas to visit, for a week or two. Very dry there. The smell disappeared, by the time I returned home. I have had, more than once, taken a doggie bag home from the restaurant. The smell in my car from the spices and the salad dressing was horrendous. Fabreeze worked. I am always stocked up on Fabreeze.
Thats awsome. I dig it... if you find you need more smell control, try spraying it directly in the area(s_ where you think the smell exists. It actually has the ability to absorb smell quite well. And it can last for a couple of months. Good stuff :)
Hey Michael, Just a tip: leather steering wheels aren't supposed to be shiny; that is many miles of built up oil from hands. I use a magic eraser and it makes it look perfect and matte, again.
Any guesses how to get that new car smell are wrong. I recently had a huge speaker box installed in my 2006 suv, and I noticed that smell came back. Then I put a new piece of carpet in the cargo area, and it smells brand new today ❤️
Try using ozone (ozium in a can) and doing multiple treatments. My grandma was a heavy smoker and smoked in the car constantly. I got the cigarette smell out after about a month of ozone treatments every couple of days. I also ripped apart the dash and cleaned every surface with diluted degreaser and simple green. Never would've known anyone smoked in it, except the cigarette holes in the seats and floor lol Even after not touching the car for 2 weeks, it didn't smell like cigarettes anymore
Use Bounce dryer sheets. I personally use sports scent spray Lysol or similar down your vents to kill bacteria and keep cabin air filter clean. Get a full detail at least once a year.
I discovered the Chemical Guys new car spray and it's rather strong at first so I spray when I know I won't be driving anymore like in the evenings so it can mellow out overnight but lasts a good week or mote before I have to spray again. Good stuff
Excellent video!! Did you know that there is 2 different kinds of Chemical Guys New Car Smell? YES!! I bought the bottle that had the WHITE LABEL in the middle. Lasted only for 1 day!! LOVED THE SCENT but was disappointed on it's longevity. Then I saw on Amazon the GREEN LABEL in the middle like yours!! Was $28.00 dollars!! DOUBLE the price of the WHITE LABEL. Frankly I never mind paying for QUALITY!! The reviews for the $15.00 WHITE LABEL was poor compared to the GREEN LABEL which was FANTASTIC!! THANK YOU for your honest review and for the gentleman om Amazon who ALERTED me to the 2 DIFFERENT kinds of bottles!! Guess which one I'm going to BUY?
Baking soda sprinkled on the upholstery, floor mats, floor carpet, anywhere smells permeate - in direct contact overnight the baking soda absorbs odor. Leave it longer if you want to, it shouldn't harm anything. Vacuum it out once you're happy with the duration. I then spray my favorite scent while the car is running, air on recirculate, a 99.9% disinfectant is good too. Eventually changing the filters is one easy way too
I do like chemical guys most of their products. Their lightning fast stain remover does work just as it is described. I can’t live without that stuff lol. However, the new car smell, I have tried that can’t tell much of a difference I think they tried to get it as close as they could but it doesn’t smell like new car to me. But to each his own.
I like their products too. And like I have replied to others... nothing smells like new car except new car. This scent has been used to simulate a fresh new car like smell since the 1940s. It is a simulation :) But I like it! Clean. Fresh smelling. And not like a bathroom scent. It smells like car.
I use BOTH of these CHEMICAL GUYS new-car / leather smell .. it's pretty good! CG offers over twenty different scents ... bubble gum is one of them ... but these are pretty strong stout and durable pump sprays; it decays over time, yes, but i think it is pretty good! (compared to the bug bomb, say, from Meguiar's, for example.) I like to spray it on the carpet and then throw the mats back on top of that; you could spray on that new cabin filter too, maybe; but clean everything very well first! Also, you can use an ozone generator .. and be sure to deep steam-clean the carpets (Stanley Steamer will do this in your driveway); ... the CG is very good, he's right about that!
Make sure to shake well! Also it’s actually really good at neutalizing odors not just masking them. I experimented with spraying it in the floor boards and it’s last a long time during the winter. Less when driving around with windows open in the summer. But I like the scent. Very happy with it.
Bought some of this stuff years ago and havnt used anything since. A new car doesnt have any scents and most car sprays use scents to make the car smell 'nice'. The chemical guys spray isnt a 'nice' scent. Instead of getting into the car and smelling flowers or fruits this leaves a very sterile and clean smell which gives that new car feel to it.
I like the smell of offgassing VOCs in new cars! But for older cars, the Chem Guys scent smells great and I like that it doesnt smell like flowers & fruits :)
The off gassing of plastics and adhesives is peculiarly pleasant even though it is mildly caustic. You can keep your new car windows rolled up to maintain it for a few months but it eventually dissipates. Never eat, drink coffee or smoke in your car and never let valets in your car because some are notoriously unhygienic.
The smell is probably embedded in the heater core and or AC evaporator. There is a foam cleaner that can reach those areas and clean them. I wonder if the Chemical Guts make a bacon smell, I really like bacon...
Lol I have traced it to the trunk and floor boards. No smell comes from the hvac. It’s fine now. I sprayed the stuff directly on the effected areas and it lasts for months. Also…. Bacon would be incredible.
I used to work at a used car lot that would buy a lot of "stinky a$$ cars" back in the 80's. I can tell you from experience outside of the HVAC system its generally the roof liner is the culprit. The roof liner can be clean a thousand times and the car will still stink. The porous foam material underneath acts like a sponge for odors. We would try to push new car scent into that foam layer. Once you accomplish that the new car smell returns and the old car smell goes away.
Yes this is a problem. Then you also know how easy it is to completely destroy the liner! :D They can fall apart and/or get blotchy and gross as soon as you apply stuff. Tough area to renew.
Maybe ill be removing it soon if I'll try to put some air refresher sprays on mats, under seats or in cabin air filter so it won't eliminate the good smell ( I'm referring to my charcoal purifying bag)
I use one of those potpourri bags and put those laundry sent pellets in it. There are plenty of scents to chose from. Put it under the seat or in a cubby area, and your car will smell great. I also use these in my boat.
Pro tip learned from a guy who use to detail cars. Take that cabin air filter out and spray it with whatever scent you prefer and leave it to dry put it back in and every time you get in your car or turn the ac on it will great for weeks.
I've done that before with other cars. Two things I learned. One, it doesn't last long. Two, getting a paper filter wet shrinks and damages its pores and makes it less efficient. Most pros use these little bags filled with gel like capsules that they toss under the seat. I prefer this method cuz its cheap and lasts a long time. I also found spraying it directly on the floor boards and in the trunk helped it to neutralize the scent and it worked much longer than just on the rag. All good! Whatever works!
Been using the "new car smell" for 2 years and my '14 Titan SL does in fact, smell like new inside. But I also have a no eating/drinking(except water)policy in the cab. Strict, but the trucks gotta last, and smell good 'till 2030, or until EV trucks are more proven and get 500+ kms on a charge
Mmmleather conditioner smell. Some of them are so good smelling. But I did find out that this stuff is also a good odor neutralizer! Even when the scent wears off the stink doesn’t come back for a long time.
Yes but the instructions say shake well and test an inconspicuous area first. You need to make sure it won’t stain or discolor. I sprayed the truck and floorboards of my Cadillac and it worked very well. I didnt smell horse barn for 3 months (winter with windows always closed).
I bought a used mini van some years ago that had been heavily smoked in. I took a large apple cut it in half and sat it in a rear seat cup holder protected by some paper towels. I left it until it started to shrivel then replaced it. Did this about three times over two months and the apples absorbed all the smell.
I had a 1997 Camaro that I smoked in (I smoked for 15 years) and it smelled like an ash tray. I simply cleaned it well and it stopped smoking in it and it smelled like new :) Its rare that I cant get a smell out of a car. Personally I like the new car scent better than apple.
Gratitude for the ides. Struggling with a mystery musty bad odor, hard to rid. Suspect mine could be water leaking in between exterior and interior panels, creating a mold. I hope to try drying it out in hot sun next summer.
do you have a sun roof? Sometimes the sunroof can trap dirt, pine needles, and start to smell moldy. Either way, I hope you can remedy it. Thanks for sharing!
@@sstressfl Thank you all. I finally figured out what was the cause of my car's bad odor. I feel so silly not finding it earlier. It was my rear windshield wiper fluid tube was loose or broken, leaking fluid any time I pressed "squirt" on the rear reservoir. Very hard to reach inside the body panel of the car to clean it all out. Hoping it will dry. I would rather try to clean it than mask cover it up, but not sure I will ever get to the insides, sadly. Now, I need to get the tubing fixed so it does not leak again, for now, not using it else worsen the problem. Am relieved I found the cause though.
Try using a power washer on the floor mats. I got a used car that had cow pee and cow poop smell that I couldn’t get rid of. I even rented a carpet cleaner and it didn’t work, not until I power washed the floor mats.
That’s awesome :) I could see that working well! One time I pulled the carpet out of my 79 Aspen Wagon and tossed it in my bathtub with laundry soap. I got in the tub with it and squeezed it and wrestled it. When it dried it was perfect 🤣
the problem is in the carpet and any cloth. I really like febreeze products. First, shampoo the entire car. change out the cabin filter. clean all the windows and plastic panels. Then start dousing it with febreeze or other fabric fresheners. Do it for a month straight LOL.
All good tips! Cleaning thoroughly is definitely the first start. I’ve even rented a carpet cleaner from Home Depot on other older cars I’ve owned (now I have my own cleaner). That roof liner can be a real challenge. They can stain so easy or fall apart once you apply product to them. I have used febreeze before, they even sell a frebreeze car scent but I didn’t like the smell. Too much like laundry 😊 But yes I can tell you’ve been thru it before lol
Never the same smell new car smell is all the new platica and blues they use at factories. New car scent sprays are totally different smells but they are good
This chemical new car smell has been around since the 1940s :) Like any scent, it depends on personal preference. As for this one, I personally like it a lot.
I have done it before. It seems intuitive. But it doesnt last. Hard to access to respray. And fluid makes the pores on paper filters collapse. It destroys the filter. So I dont do it.
If u do make sure it’s dry b4 u re insert filter if u use it right away all wet it’s gunna attract every piece of dirt like crazy Just a helpful tip’ :-)
Yes I could see that being bad. I’ve done a lot of cleanup and detailing in my life. Some people spill drinks, melted chocolate, piles of crumbs and it can turn into a stinky mess, especially spilled milk 🤢 my car however, other than the barn smell is spotless everywhere. Even inside underneath and around interior pieces.
Horse poo is an organic that contains strong nitrogen bonds. Ie, you need an enzyme, not a 'cleaner', unless it for some reason contains nitric acid (which is so strong it's banned above certain concentrations by the ATF because it's used to make high explosives). I'm willing to bet if you did a test and used some of that nature's miracle from the pet store it would probably work. If you have leather interior I'm going to recommend using leatherique because it's an enzyme, not an oil or cleaner. You can't "clean" strong bonds such as this. The bonds can, however, break down from daily use, as temperature changes, UV radiation, and oxides provide the necessary catalytic energy to separate such a stable bond.
I use the same spray, but spray it on the carpets, headlining, boot , just about every fabric, once the initial smell fades it has actually absorbed whatever the original small was, in my case I was trying to get rid of a very strong dog smell. and it worked...
My fam is into horse riding. It's NOT the horse poop you smell, it's the horse SWEAT. Much worse. Quite hard to remove, BUT... not impossible. 1. DEEP clean your carpets and upholstery. Maybe do it even twice, with removal of seats and so on. 2. CONDITION the leather. That is important, as the leather tends to quickly loose the smell. Even a horse saddle tends to smell not of horses but of leather if taken care of peoperly.
I hit the carpets with a wet vac, containing carpet shampoo with odor control AND have used leather cleaning. I've been detailing cars since I was a kid and I have yet to run into a smell (other than death-in-car) that is so difficult to remedy. It's no longer strong, but very subtle. My next effort is to remove carpet from the trunk and wash the entire metal surface and put the carpet in the bathtub with laundry soap :) I've done this before and had good results. We shall see! Thanks for the tips my friend!
I didn't smell anything from here, weird. :P Anyway, we bought a 2018 Ford Escape with 30k miles. I changed the cabin air filter which was disgusting, but oddly enough it didn't smell bad to begin with in the SUV. However, that air filter at 30k was alarmingly dirty. So many people don't even realize there's a filter in their cabin somewhere and it's probably nasty.
And if you find you need more better fresh smell... try spraying it on the area where you think the smell is coming from. It does a good job of neautralizing odors. Enjoy :)
@@Petya_Haralanova cleaning is always a critical first step. I have found if I shake well, then spray it directly in the area where I think the smell is located (floorboards and trunk) it does more than mask the smell with a good scent. It has the ability to neutralize smell. In the winter it would last 2 months. Summer is 3-4 weeks (windows down, humid air). Hope that helps 👍
Just use pure essential oils, several drops on some cotton, stick it in a plastic bag that has a few pin prick holes in it, place under the seat. Your car can smell like a Balsam fir tree, or a Pine tree, or Cedar tree, or like an orange grove, or like vanilla and cinnamon, or lavender, or rose, or mint. Not the slightest bit toxic (keep away from pets), and change the cotton when it wears off. Just a couple drops is strong enough.
I was thinking what someone else mentioned and that is replacing the cabin air filter, but spraying it with the New Car Smell, or similar, before installing it. That should circulate pretty well, but I assume you don't want to overdue it, as it come become overwhelming with too much. Thanks for sharing Michael!
I've actually applied scent to the cabin air filter before! It fades very quickly. Also moisture damages the open cells of a paper filter and makes it less efficient. Its best to shake well and spray on a rag or spray directly onto the effected area, floorboards, trunk, where ever needed :)
Wow, thanks for the quick reply, Michael, and great info about potential damage to the cabin air filter when spraying it with a chemical fragrance. I just sprayed fabreese the cabin filter in my wife's VW Tiguan yesterday before reading your post. I'll have to keep an eye on this filter and check it in 30 and 90 days, then replace as needed. Have a great week Michael! Kind regards, Tom
You need to run an ozone machine. Other than that I guarantee the majority of the smell is in the floormats and carpet, there's tons of particles that are deeply embedded there from farm boots. Clean out the Hvac vents, grab some new floormats and extract the carpet, and run an ozone machine.
about 2 weeks, however, I later found if you spray it on the floor boards (or where ever you think its needed, it does an incredible job of neutralizing the odors and lasts for a couple months in the winter (windows closed) and afew weeks in the summer (windows open). Either way, on the towel, or floor boards, it smells great and works well to mask odors.
Great ideas ! However , being a lifetime equestrian , I love the smell of horses - including the barn , hay , leather , etc. & we horse owners joke about the " good smell " when we turn on our truck / car heaters in winter ! Add saddles & tack for more equine ambiance & don't forget the accompanying barn / wet dog smell too ! 😀 What really sickens me is cigar / cigarette smell in vehicles !!! 🤢
Lol… awesome :) my daughter now rides horses multiple times per week! I don’t mind the smell at all…. except in my car. I want my car to smell like a car. And yes I agree wholeheartedly, ash tray/smoke smell in a car is horrible.
Cabin air filter must be changed same time as oil, oil filter, air filter. Try sprinkling baking sofa on car seats and carpets. Let sit for about 30 minutes. Then vacuum.
I know this is an older video but i suspect the source of the smell is probably the seat belts and contamination in your hvac system (dust/dander). Maybe try cleaning the nylon really well. I like folex for anything fabric. Or a solution of tide cold water and distilled water (go way easy on the tide, 15/1 maybe). Gently blow out your hvac system on the different settings. You wouldn’t want to blow out a flapper!
Hey Kenny, good thoughts! The seatbelts have been sniffed (no smell) and cleaned anyway without a change in interior smell. And after a good scrubbing the barn always comes back. Its also not helping that my daughter has started to ride horses and gets in my car with her boots smelling strong of barn. Oh well, I continue to clean and use my new car smell to keep it smelling fresh inside :)
@@sstressfl bummer! Good luck. Those are my two semi pro detailer tricks for removing smoke odor. I do extend them all the way out and use a clip to leave it extended. We all meet our match sometimes though.

One of the main reasons why new cars have that smell is because of the adhesive used in the interiors. One time I bought a tube of contact cement to repair some shoes and it smelled just like a new car.
Did you eat it?
@@vilmfilm you don't eat glue silly, you sniff it 😜
What kind of contact adhesive??
@@Joseph-C I wanted to buy Shoe Goo brand but I was broke at the time so I bought a cheaper contact cement made by Bazic Products.
what brand please?
I have been using the Chemical Guys for a couple years now and I always spray it in the footwell with the AC running. I recently got their leather spray and use that along with the new car and it smells amazing!
I use BOTH as well. those two are the classic combo.
Yes! Their Aloe leather conditioner stuff smells so good!!
Excellent. Spraying disinfectant through the windshield air intake, changing the filter and keeping Chemical Guy's New Car Smell on a rag under the seat goes a long long way. Especially with ventilated seats circulating scent.
yea.i jus learned the lysol trick..spray into vent from outside..turn on ac..and spray to get that musty smell out
D Bo!
Yes, the car will smell "ozoney" but that stuff you are using will then take over from there.
ohhh
Yeah I was to say the same thing. Every decent car detailer shop will offer an ozone cleaning. Worth the money if you want to get rid of old smells.
Ozone will deteriorate your plastic, 30 minutes is sufficient. Until you eliminate the source with something like an ozone generator, you're just covering up scents.
@@Tragicveil 'you're just covering up scents' - 100%! It has the smelly teenager axe deo vibe. 😄
That did it 👍
Use ozone generator machine. I used couple of times, works very well. Got rid of smell of smoking and pet from previous owners. Reccommend.
Great info. I bought a used car that doesn't smell, but I miss having the new car smell from a new car. I'm gonna do this. Thank you!
“Now we know the source of COVID” 🤣
😂
Ive had stinky ac before on older cars and that’s a good tip. But in this specific case it’s not being blown in 👍
I use the same car smell you are using. It’s fantastic. I’m going to try the rag under the seat though, hopefully will last longer.
I found if you shake well it lasts even longer! As a man, it’s hard for me to read instructions. But I’m glad I read these cuz it makes a difference 😁
The problem is that people are nasty.I work in a dealership where I repair, trade in cars, and the car smells because people are dirty.
That’s awesome 👏 I agree. It’s good stuff 👍
Fortunately this product does not have any chemicals that violate the Clean Air Act. It’s safe to use as described in the directions 👍
It might be safe if you're in and out the car. But I agree, be cautious of chemicals that could, OVERTIME, lead to lung cancer. The reason I stopped using continuous air fresheners at home. We use only essential oils.
@@chasburns3303 fortunately this one doesnt use carcinogens!
@@chasburns3303 Just because something is natural does not mean it is not carcinogenic, Chas.
I like it.
Then how do used dealers replicate that scent? I agree the spray doesn't do much.
Even if that’s so what I like is that I don’t smell barn smell anymore 👍 I only respray when the horse returns 😀
@@seemarie this is similar to the one I bought www.walmart.com/ip/Bissell-Proheat-Pet-Turbo-Carpet-Cleaner-1799V/911515161
One tip I tried:
Get one of those lil bottles of air freshener that come with wooden sticks in them, cut the sticks in half and maybe don't use all the sticks (intended for household use) and use some adhesive velcro on it, that will secure the bottle to the carpet and won't spill. The smell will last couple months, as long there's liquid left in the bottle.
I use an ozone generator, roll up the windows and let it run for about an hour. If you catch a whiff of it while it's running it smells like chlorine gas, works on every smelly car I buy.
Hi there, Which one and where did you buy?
Where did you buy yours
I bought that new car smell from CG a few months ago! And yeah that stuff is golden!!
Next time use an old air freshener tree that has expired its scent. Spray it liberally with the CG New Car Scent and you are good-to-go!
This indeed works. I bought a used vehicle a couple years ago and the scent has been in it since purchasing. I did a thorough cleaning and found an old air freshener tree tucked in under the back seat in between the tool box cover and carpet. I think the key is to confine the exposure to air...maybe?
Chemical guys leather scent is also a good one.
You could read humpty dumpty and I'd watch... great stuff. And now, I'm going to go buy some new car smell !!
You're too kind :D
😂
I agree! It doesn’t just mask the odor with a scent, it’s actually an excellent odor naturalizer. Love it! Thanks for sharing 🙏
Could you use your carpet or a small section of the carpet as the rag? Just spray in your foot well, for instance?
Thanks for the idea, Michael! I'll give it a try. Greetings from Canada.
Greetings my friend! 🙏
Been using this for about 2 years now and i love it
Excellent info.
Michael, Thank you for the info on the "New Car Smell" , i just ordered it.
Thats awsome. I dig it... if you find you need more smell control, try spraying it directly in the area(s_ where you think the smell exists. It actually has the ability to absorb smell quite well. And it can last for a couple of months. Good stuff :)
Hey Michael,
Just a tip: leather steering wheels aren't supposed to be shiny; that is many miles of built up oil from hands. I use a magic eraser and it makes it look perfect and matte, again.
Mine was wiped down with leather treatment. Gave it subtle shine. It turns matte again soon. But good tip to clean an older wheel!!
Any guesses how to get that new car smell are wrong. I recently had a huge speaker box installed in my 2006 suv, and I noticed that smell came back. Then I put a new piece of carpet in the cargo area, and it smells brand new today ❤️
Nice 👍 glad that worked for you!
Never would've known anyone smoked in it, except the cigarette holes in the seats and floor lol
Even after not touching the car for 2 weeks, it didn't smell like cigarettes anymore
Use Bounce dryer sheets. I personally use sports scent spray Lysol or similar down your vents to kill bacteria and keep cabin air filter clean. Get a full detail at least once a year.
I have used bounce but I never could get away from the scent connection to laundry. For me the new car smell is preferred. It feels like…. car.
I discovered the Chemical Guys new car spray and it's rather strong at first so I spray when I know I won't be driving anymore like in the evenings so it can mellow out overnight but lasts a good week or mote before I have to spray again. Good stuff
I like it too. Smells fresh and crisp inside the car. Glad you enjoy 💪😎👍🙏
I had no idea! Thanks for the heads up!
Just bought some before I saw this video, I'll try your trick for the use of it. Thanks for the tip.
Did you try cleaning the three pedals with a small screwdriver between the ridges in the rubber? Fine place for horse poop to hide.
I know what you mean!! I used a lot of cleaning solution and a wire brush to clean the pedals 👍
Thanks for the tip. I think you could find a small jar with a wick to dispense the smell.
You can also just spray it by the feet areas and turn AC on circulation mode.
Or run an ozone machine and recirculate the air for an hour or so.
Thier leather air freshener spray is good too.
You should have used a Charcoal Cabin filter. That really helps.
They are excellent especially for vehicles with smoking.
I purchased house edition charcoal air purifying bags and hang 1 in the car for ordor or bad smell :)
Maybe ill be removing it soon if I'll try to put some air refresher sprays on mats, under seats or in cabin air filter so it won't eliminate the good smell ( I'm referring to my charcoal purifying bag)
I would use a steamer and hold it in each ac bent for 5 min while it was on circulation or get an ozone machine rental!
Thanks for posting! Will have to try it for my car!
Its my favorite scent for a car! Hope you'll enjoy :)

I would have tried spraying some on the new cabin air filter.
I use one of those potpourri bags and put those laundry sent pellets in it. There are plenty of scents to chose from. Put it under the seat or in a cubby area, and your car will smell great. I also use these in my boat.
Def many ways to create scent! I personally prefer new car smell!
I use Bounce laundry sheets. Sport scent. Keep cabin filter clean.
What about a couple sprays in the cabin filter?
Essential oils on the filter is nice too. I like citris
I love the new car smell, for my leather interior I use there leather air freshener, smells awesome. Great video thank you

I've done this with little trees for years. Leave them under the seat instead of hanging from mirrors etc...
Charcoal or coffee beans also work.
Ive found that a good interior leather conditioner does the same thing and lasts fos a few weeks. Maguire smells like coconut 👍
Mmmleather conditioner smell. Some of them are so good smelling. But I did find out that this stuff is also a good odor neutralizer! Even when the scent wears off the stink doesn’t come back for a long time.
Will it work if I just directly spray it to my carpet floor mats of my car??
I bought some new oem rubber car mats and they have that smell.
That will do it for a little while! :)
Could you also spray the cabin air filter with your favorite scent??
I have done it before. It seems intuitive. But it doesnt last. Hard to access to respray. And fluid makes the pores on paper filters collapse. It destroys the filter. So I dont do it.
Spray that onto the cabin filter and it’ll last awhile
If u do make sure it’s dry b4 u re insert filter if u use it right away all wet it’s gunna attract every piece of dirt like crazy
Just a helpful tip’ :-)
I found a lot of hidden messes when I took apart my center console
If you can do it I’d recommend it
Yes I could see that being bad.
@@sstressfl that’s crazy
Look forward to you figuring it out 👍
Horse poo is an organic that contains strong nitrogen bonds.
I would then follow up with an ozone machine, just for assurances.
I use the same spray, but spray it on the carpets, headlining, boot , just about every fabric, once the initial smell fades it has actually absorbed whatever the original small was, in my case I was trying to get rid of a very strong dog smell. and it worked...
It does work! I was impressed by its ability to neutralize odors... it doesnt just mask it with a scent, it actually helps kill the odor.
@@sstressfl actually you may be onto something with the trunk, yeah. Good luck, gonna keep my fingers crossed! Waiting patiently for another video.
Also use a ozone generator in combination with the spray
I didn't smell anything from here, weird. :P Anyway, we bought a 2018 Ford Escape with 30k miles. I changed the cabin air filter which was disgusting, but oddly enough it didn't smell bad to begin with in the SUV. However, that air filter at 30k was alarmingly dirty. So many people don't even realize there's a filter in their cabin somewhere and it's probably nasty.
Its so easy to forget! And they get crazy dirty a lot quicker than most of us realize. Some folks apparently change theirs every oil change.
Can't wait to try it! I have been looking for ways to make my car a bit more fresh!
And if you find you need more better fresh smell... try spraying it on the area where you think the smell is coming from. It does a good job of neautralizing odors. Enjoy :)
@@sstressfl GOOD TIP 👍👍
I feel like my issue was a bit specific so it didn't work out for me. However it would work for a day or two.
Not my style but some others might enjoy this tip! I like the new car scent :)
And I highly recommend the chemical guys leather smell if you have leather interior you won’t regret it
I have heard good things :) I added a link to it as well.
@tombrady5901 God bless you my friend!
I use Bounce dryer sheets. Sport scent for me. They work great. Change out when needed.
You need to run an ozone machine. Other than that I guarantee the majority of the smell is in the floormats and carpet, there's tons of particles that are deeply embedded there from farm boots. Clean out the Hvac vents, grab some new floormats and extract the carpet, and run an ozone machine.
And, of course, the product is "Currently Unavailable" on Amazon. Seems to be the flavor of the year with amazon products.
NOOO! I think its usually on the shelves at walmart too!!
Thanks ... nice video, ordered a bottle in uk
Appreciate it 🙏
Thanks for the great video! I will definitely try this product on one of my older cars. Thanks, and God bless.
Make sure to shake well. I found when sprayed on my floorboards and in trunk, it neutralized odors not just masked them. I like it! God bless 🙏
I know that plastic-y Styrofoam-y smell that gives a new car smell vibe and I like it a lot. Thanks for sharing.
So basically just shake it, spray it on a piece of microfiber towel, and put that towel behind/under the seat? --- how long will it last?
about 2 weeks, however, I later found if you spray it on the floor boards (or where ever you think its needed, it does an incredible job of neutralizing the odors and lasts for a couple months in the winter (windows closed) and afew weeks in the summer (windows open). Either way, on the towel, or floor boards, it smells great and works well to mask odors.
what about a single spray on the new cabin filter instead?
Because of the fan it doesnt last long. Not easy to respray 👍
I prefer to put a plate of baking soda to sit overnight in odor to eliminate the odor
I’ve tried that! As well as dryer sheets. New car smell for the win!
@@sstressfl - Try renting or buying an Ozone Machine. An Ozone Machine will Eliminate the odor.
Cabin air filter must be changed same time as oil, oil filter, air filter. Try sprinkling baking sofa on car seats and carpets. Let sit for about 30 minutes. Then vacuum.
I spray it on the used leather smell tree air fresheners. then just toss it under the seat.
If the smell persists u can pick up an ozone generator on Amazon for like $80… set it for 90mins and let it sit over night the smell will be gone.
@@kwats6510 the barn smell is actually very mild. But I enjoy not smelling it at all with the new car scent. Appreciate your feedback 🙏
@@sstressfl Sorry to say , but get used to the horse smell - a horse crazy girl ( aka. a " barn rat " ) will grow up to be a crazy horse lady ; it is not a phase ! Repeat : it is NOT a phase !! 😂 At 70+ years , I've personally been there, done that , then went on to teach decades of students , mostly girls & women . Embrace that your daughter is learning to be strong , mentally & physically , & many good lessons for a lifetime . 💟
