Great comparison! I would also be very interested in a comparison between these 3 tires and the Yokohama and Hankook counterpart! What do you think? ps. Asymmetric 5 not available in 215/40 R18. What a shame...
@@CasualFlyer I support that! all 3 are not available in the dimensions my car uses. While at least Hankook makes tires in the right dimension. (Especially the rear 285/35/18 101 Y are nowhere to be found in the current models of Conti, Goodyear or Michelin. They do still offer the Sport contact 3 which i therefore use, and the Pilot sport 3 while goodyear with a reduced load index would offer the asymetric 2!)
Hi thanks for the show, I agree with you on the contis, you do feel the imperfections of the road surface but the steering is more precise, maybe a video about the mid range sporty tyres like hankook, Dunlop and Yokohama, take care and stay safe
I went from Michelin Pilot Sport 4 to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5, I immediately noticed the better steering precision and the lower noise. The lower grip on public roads is impossible to notice, but the difference in price is significant! I recommend them to everyone, they are really excellent.
When they lowered their prices and innovated with these new tires in the last 3-4 years they have really become competitive. Before they were over priced and tires had some issues. Belt issues where the belts start shoot out the side of the tire. Or chunks of rubber ejecting out the crown. Especially the Fortera HL !! Never buy!
They were not outclassed, they had some of the very top end hi performance sports tyre like the eagle zr 55 and zr 60 which were mounted on the Testarossa and the Corvette ZR1. Also in 1993, the Eagle GSC was another milestone tyre for absolute traction and handling in the wet. Later in 1998 Eagle F1 was introduced with ROF (run on flat ) available which was one of the best tyres available back then. In 2009 they introduced the Eagle F1 all seasons being one of the most versatile and best handling tyres for all seasons. The latest one is Eagle F1 Supersport which is perhaps the best tyre regarding hi performance super sports car.
7:54 watching how much the sidewall actually moves is really fascinating, Never realized there was that much movement. Almost feels like you could tear the tyre off if you have too much grip xD
I also have these tires on my Giulietta QV. I have though it would be an overkill but it's not :) I'm still waiting for perfect weather to test their limits, because with around 10C ambient temperature they do not perform very well imo, but that was to be expected.
Bought the Goodyear’s a month ago, and are so happy with them. Fitted on a VW Passat in 18”, they seemed like a perfect fit for the price, and I have not been disappointed.
I couldn't agree more. Also about a month ago, I upgraded my A3 8P convertible (so not exactly the most dynamic chassis) to 18" wheels and fitted the Goodyear's after seeing your comments in the prior group test and seeing at what price they could be purchased. I don't recall what they replaced, fitted by the prior owner and quite old. But I have never been so impressed with the performance of a new tyre when switching before. Maybe the bigger wheels helped but the car is nothing short of transformed.
I run the Goodyears on my hot hatch and have no complaints - cheaper than the Michelin the majority of the time and both have a leg up on each other for different qualities. Dry grip is v good but wet grip even better. Recommend to anyone if I'm being honest but you can't really go wrong with any of the three! Brilliant video!
Tyre Reviews no problem mate! Was going to drop a review after I’ve done a few 1,000 miles on them as I will be buying another two Goodyear’s in a few months time as well. Great job on the vid 👍
RIP GoPro camera/mount @ 5.58. Great review, thank you for doing a segment on tyres for the more everyday car. I have a 2008 Subaru Liberty GT currently fitted with 235/40/18 Pirelli Dragon Sport tyres (fitted by the previous owner) and always like to watch your videos to see what tyres I will choose next. Sounds like the Goodyear or Conti's for me based off your test and feedback.
First of all, I'd like to thank you a lot for the review! I believe it will help a lot for those who are hesitating between these three tires. I bought Michelin PS4 for my mk7.5 GTI this year and I totally fell in love with these tires! For the very imperfect roads in Ukraine, it gave me a very unexpected level of comfort on 18" wheels. Comparing to the base 17" Bridgestone Turanza T001 that was absolutely awful, it's much more silent and comfortable. Comparing to my previous 18" Continental Sport Contact 5, it's much more comfortable and softer. During the first ride, I even thought that the tires were underinflated but in fact, they were even overinflated. Finally, I found the perfect tires for me and my car.
Great review. I switched to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5s after watching your previous review of this this tyre. Coming from awful Bridgestone Potenzas previously on my VW GTI mk7.5 Performance with 18 rims I have been super impressed. The handling is superb IMO, with good noise levels. I can drive confidently in any weather on any road surface. As a tyre to live with every day from commuting on motorways to blasting A and B roads at the weekend, I think the Goodyears are excellent. Also (rare for me) brushed a kerb recently, with minimal alloy damage that was easily repaired due to the sidewall. Thank you for your original 17/18/19 review which helped me spec 18s over 19s from new. And thank you for the advice to go with Goodyear 5s. On the GTI, I think a perfect combination. Keep up the great reviews!!! Cheers
Pretty much anything is an improvement on Bridgestone Potenzas. Awful tyre. Have no idea why manufacturers keep fitting them (I'm particularly talking to you BMW!).
I made 2000km with the conti’s and I’m really happy. The salesman told me that was supposed to be the most comfortable one but what I wanted was a sporty feeling and I really enjoy my purchase for that reason. Who needs tire protection when you are a real carguy? You just stay away from anything that can scratch the rims haha
Ordered 4 continental premium contact 6's instead of goodyear f1 a few days ago only because of the fuel rating. I have eagle f1 asymmetric 3 on my leon fr 184 (GTD in a Spanish dress)they were good tyres in all conditions. I would have stuck with goodyear if I had watched this review and saved a few quid.keep up the good work excellent reviews.
My parents car is in 19" and they really hope it wasn't. It's a Grandland X with Continental SC5 SUV... It's bad for a car like that, we need comfort and low prices ! This video convinced me that they should change the SC5 for the PS4 SUV available in the same size. My dad was really disappointed by how noisy the car is at highway speed (clearly tyre noise, because there is no wind or engine noise) and despite the soft suspension small road imperfections feels a bit harsh (the suspension do a great job over larger ones, but it's mostly the tyres that deal with the small stuff).
@@ВіталійДедік 15" is not even possible on a lot of modern cars. On the Grandland X it won't clear the brake, 16" minimum. And because tyre manufacturer follow market trends, you can't really have high profile car tyres anymore. Look at the tyres on an old Rolls Royce, those sizes are only available for trucks now...
So in summary actually just pick whichever you can find cheapest of the 3 in your area coz they're all so close that we shouldn't go wrong with any of them. Good comparison analysis as always and alleviate my doubts about the CPC6 which surprisingly is the sportiest of the 3.
Thanks for this test! Couple months ago I ended up buying the R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 for my BMW E60 (it's always raining in my area in Europe) and I very much agree with your observations in the video.
Only watched half, but had to put a positive comment in before proceeding ! The way you described the Michelin is EXACTLY how I feel about it. Knowing we are so well calibrated in tastes makes your reviews so very useful. Your attention to detail is important and appreciated. Rim protection analysis - excellent! Fortunately for me, F1 Supersport is available in my 18 sizes. Your reviews have made me order a set - I will review them on the website once they are delivered and fitted and tested. Thank you!
Your reviews were the reason I mounted this Continental under my MX5, replacing the Asymmetric 2. That's not a fair comparison, but this Premium Contact 6 makes a huge difference. For my daily, my shortlist is exactly the tires you review here. Thanks! Still made no decision though...
Interesting result. I changed my old Mini Cooper Clubman S to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 on 17" rims. The best tire i ever had. But i might change the next time to the Conti. Thanks for the interesting test. And not only the 19" or 20" fraction of the supercars.
Hey man, I have had both in my FR Ibiza and let me tell you stick to Michelin. Continental PC6 is good but Michelin is way more fun in terms of sport driving. Just my toughts. Now I still have C PC6 but changing to M PS4 in a week so excited to have them again!
For me personally I don't really look for playful anymore as this has lead to many car write-offs when I was a young boy racer lol I look for safe what will stop my car the quickest or keep my car on the road when it's very wet / greasy roads ect. This is why I have PS4
@@helixworld not really, im more concerned about the other knob head on the road that just pull out, I've had two very good with rare mods and add ons. I've had all three makes of tyre in various types and the PS4 are by far better at coming to a dead stop
I've only ever used the PS4 on my high power RWD, but my experience of them hasn't been that they are not sporty - maybe it's just not so good on low powered and/or FWD applications like this Skoda? I put the Goodyears on my wifes car and they are excellent, but it's FWD with only around 100kw.
Great review! I have a Focus ST which came standard with the previous Goodyear F1s which struggled for traction, particularly in the wet. I put Michelin PS4 on a while ago when I replaced the F1s. The way they're described in this video is EXACTLY how they behave on the ST. There's more comfort than before but noticeably more understeer and less positive turn in - a trait I loved about the Focus when I bought it. PS4 has grip for sure but not as enjoyable for me. Comfortable though. 🤔
You only have to watch 60 sec and you understand this guy knows what he is talking about! Reviews are on point and precise and the information is clear. He is like a doctor of tyres, you trust him with you life, lol 😆 Respect
Excellent review, thank you, just at the right time. So now ordered a set of the Goodyear's for my BMW 3GT to get rid of the awful,, tired runflats. Looking forward to the balance of comfort and handling....you're right, after shopping around the Goodyears are way better in terms of price; I'll report back about performance once they're fitted.
Just mounted Continental PremiumContact 6 225/40R18 on my Škoda Octavia VRS, tuned though, with 320HP & 520Nm. Final choice was based on this Tyre review. Luckily the test car was the same, which contributed a lot. Did I get what I want? Yes. That and more. First of all, ride is not as bumpy, rigid or noisy as expected. Steering is so damn precise, sporty, linear, direct and wonderful...exactly as described, like I am driving completely different car. Match between this review and my experience is complete. Job well done, keep up the good work!
I got the Assy 5 235/40/18 just last week for my Scirocco , and the change from my low cost no name brand tires has been amazing. You cant hear anything , they grip the road in every situation + the price was much better than Michelins or Contis.
Just switched to Continental Premium Contact 6 and the first thing I noticed is how quick and precise they are to steer. Perhaps too light in slow speeds, but wonderful when driving highways.
Can't really compare noise or comfort as they always get better when replacing worn tires with a new set. Both are certainly great, but I'm driving a 5-series BMW so your mileage may vary. Previously had Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 tires. Now with Contis car feels so much more nimble.
@@gettuget I'm torn between PS4 and premium 6 for my BMW 118d , are contis that much noisy and harrash as people say ? I'm rolling on r16 because of lot of bad roads so I guess I have some comfort to trade haha
I drive a Mondeo Titanium and I'm loving the refinement from the Pilot Sport 4. At the time, I was deciding between that and the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5, but I think based on this review, I made the right decision after all.
Exactly the test I was looking for! Got 4 GY Asymmetric 2 4 years ago on my Giulietta, largely influenced by reviews shared on this channel. I think I won't hesitate later this summer to put on 4 Asymmetric 5s. One thing I noticed is that the Asymm. 2 (though can't compare with the others) are incredibly resistant. I'm running 225/40/18 XL (not ROF) and they haven't suffered much the hit of at least 3 or 4 badly maintained potholes in Italy. On a vacation in Tuscany I was forced a few times to drive on dirt roads, some in a really bad state where I thought I'd have a puncture or damage the rubber in some way, went back home 2.5k and looked new. Also a few months ago a faulty air valve made a wheel lose almost all its pressure after I checked it, I've driven for 5-6kms on an almost flat tyre which is still intact now after another 5-6k km. I've put some serious stress on my asymmetric 2s, they are almost at the end of their thread life after 40k km of normal and also harsh driving and still had loads of grip on some mountain roads last weekend. Couldn't ask for more value for money
@@andrewsimmons323 yes, been driving them for just 3-4k but extremely happy overall. Difficult to compare a new tire with an old one, but I find them excellent, so I expect to have a similar experience than I had with the 2s.
I’ve been waiting for this review for a while so thank you. I have the Michelin’s on my Mini JCW, tyre size is 205/40/18. It’s definitely an understeer prone tyre, my car came with Pirelli P7 runflats which were awful tyres and the Michelin’s are better but not have to erased the understeer completely. I think part of the reason for my car being understeery is the tyre size is too small, so I’m thinking of going up a size next time. I will say I agree it’s a very comfortable and quiet tyre but it doesn’t fill me full of confidence when going into a corner at speed. Wet grip is much improved, pulling away quickly but not overly fast no longer causes the wheels to spin. Michelin have made a fantastic tyre, I just wish the 4S was available in 18 inches. I’m not sure if it’s the compound or tread pattern that causes the understeer but I’d love to try a 4S and see what that is like in comparison. I’ve never really considered the Conti before but next time I may do.
This channel NEVER fails to impress me with content and delivery. Keep up the great work! I have 18" wheels on my turbocharged 2002 IS300 (Altezza), but luckily here in the US, I was able to get Michelin PS 4S for it. :-)
This is exactly the review I've been waiting for - I asked your advice on the PS4 and you also mentioned the F1 was a cheaper option - and now I'm completely stuck. LOL. I drive in the wet a lot, so will likely go for the PS4.
madbikeboysins I’m running PS4 on my F21 and they’re a great choice, especially if you’re coming from the awful stock run flat bridgestones. Make sure you grab a inflator/puncture kit as the F20/F21 doesn’t have one!
@@toblerone0104 I am running Goodyear Assym's at the moment - factory tyre here in NZ. Went to non-run flat in the rear a while ago, the car is night and day better - PS4's are ordered, pick them up this weekend. Thank you for the advice.
4:05. Exactly my experience with the PS4. Such poor steering response and lateral stability, the tires were returned to the shop. Obviously I want to get the heavy and grippy feeling though the steering wheel when the front tires are loaded up. Thanks for your honest review.
Poor steering response and lateral stability, that's what I've experienced with my 2022 Michelin PS4 ZP 275/35 R19 tyres on my 6 Series coupé (E63, LCI). I have to take them back and replace them. What tyres do you guys suggest?
@@zsb707 PS4 "S" would be the first step as an upgrade. Michelin's "S" version is the more sporty version from Michelin, so they will be better but still not a really firm sidewall. Maybe worth to look at Jonathan's review of the Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 6.
@@helixworld Thank you! I guess I'll try Continental or Pirelli. Hopefully the guy from the store will buy back the two Michelin rears as I can't imagine driving my car with those..
I've experienced Michelin PS4 on a F56 MINI JCW and Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 5 on my current E86 BMW Z4 Coupe. Different cars, but I think the Goodyear offers a good tire for the money. Cheaper than PS4 by far, and I like the steering feel and the fact that it looks good on the rims/tire sidewall. Haven't had them long enough to say anything about wear. Watched this video before I got them, and this channel should have had lot more views. Great work!👍🏻
Im using the GY Eagle F1 A5 and think its a great all rounder like you say, I have used it on a track day and it just doesnt work so well pushed hard when hot but for the road with a nice B road on a hot hatch its great! Also wear is brillant so is price. Thanks for the great review!
Great tire review, thanks a lot. I am driving a Skoda superb 2.0 d. I am still driving on Eagle F1 asymmetric 2´s, pretty happy with them, long-lasting as well. My next tire will probably be the asymmetric 5. Michelin PS4 is probably a tad better for old guys like me, but the price difference in central Europe is quite big. If Michelin PS4S was available in 22540R18, it would be a different story all together of course. . .
Cheers for the review 🍻 I'm rolling on PS4 at the moment and I agree with everything you said. Phenomenal in the wet but they're just not responsive enough on turn in
@@tyrereviews I will give Contis a try for my 2019 Mazda MX-5. My stock Bridgestone Potenza S001 are almost worn out (35.000kms). I was waiting for PS4S to come in 205/45/17 size, but since they're not available, I'll go with the Contis. I can't wait anymore. Thank you for this test! Greately appriciated!
I've said on the golf owners forum since I had the PS4 fitted that they feel too soft on the sidewalls yet everything kept saying I didn't know what I was on about and the PS4 were the best.
Man another amazing video!!! This is the best content on youtube at the moment hands down. So good. I still run Pilot Sport 3 from 2015 and they still have a season in them. You know what we gonna ask now right? Now we want the excact same comparasion but between the Pilot Sport 4 S, SportContact 6 and F1 Super Sport 😉
Ran asymmetric 5s on my last car Mazda MPS , inspired so much confidence in the wet it was a joke. I'm sure I didn't reach the limits of grip but I never felt afraid of pushing it in the rain. The rim protection is a great feature but it is quite large on the tires so they look a little bit donut-y and sidewall not the prettiest
Just brought Goodyear Eagle F1 17" for my BMW e90 330xd (310ps stage 2) The performance it gives me is insane. Can't spin the wheels at all! In the corners, it just perfect. Used to have Dunlop before and I can tell you its miles better than that. No squeaking noise, its just grip. No understeer, or oversteer, always perfect grip around the corners. Break distance is outstanding. I can't get to make my ABS work in the dry. Haven't tried it in the wet, but now looking at this video I'll.
Im getting the michelin. A little handling feel and precision given up for comfort is fine by me and what I need. I like my tires and suspension to absorb bumps and not be too stiff. Everyone has different needs. Good video, it was very enjoyable to watch. Thank you mate.
Agreed. For an ‘everyday driver’, the Michelin ticks most of the boxes for me. Wet grip is also a major decider. It can be the difference between a near miss and an expensive repair.
@@GroovesAndLands But... It's not fun to drive. So if you have a BMW 2 series active tourer 216d, that's fine that the tyre isn't fun to drive. But if you have a BMW Mini Cooper JCW that's **supposed** to be fun to drive, then it's a no-go IMO.
I've fitted Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 to my BMW e46 325ci and they're noisy but do have plenty grip! Will hopefully get to try them out on a track this year!
I can’t imagine having that grip on an e46, I have a 330ci and I feel like my UHP all seasons have more grip than I’ll ever need for the street, but for track or autocross they will probably be great
Last week I ordered four PS4 for my Mk7 Golf GTI and now finally you bring the video I had been waiting for!! I think I’ll be happy with my choice though. Great content, thanks.
Only problem with the MPS4 is the tread wear. I went through 2 sets in around 15 months and only covered 12k miles total. New set of PS4S and after 10k there was still about 3/4mm tread left before I replaced the rears last month. Fronts are still good and above 3mm but I'll be ordering new fronts shortly to match the rear (to be fitted after the lockdown is lifted naturally!). PS4 is a good tyre, but the PS4S is in an entirely different class. They should've renamed it as people think it is the next in line of the Pilot Sport series when it is in fact an uprated street oriented version of the Pilot Super Sport.
I found the super sports didnt grip when they were cold. On a 0°C morning, they were diabolical and didnt heat up enough to grip. I have had 2 sets of ps4 and the cold road and wet road grip is next level compared to the ss.
Have been running MPS4 on my Golf for the best part of a year. For road driving I can’t fault them. Wear well, stop and change direction brilliantly in both wet and dry conditions. Had Conti eco contact 6 previously.... quite possibly the softest tyre wall ever made! Avoid!
The EcoContact are known for being the softest of the soft tyres too, so you're summary is correct! If you ever have the time, it would be great if you could leave your thoughts on www.tyrereviews.com too
Had the PS4 on my ex Cayman S, like you said, nice, but just not very sporty. Just did some track driving at Zandvoort last weekend in my M140i on SuperSports, couldn't believe the grip, the progression and the lack of wear on them. unbelievable tire. I see that the PS4S is now available here in a few sizes in 18", trying that next. Keep up the excellent work!
Continental is also the lightest tire tested, lower rotating mass equals greater performance. The temporary circle mark on the new tire is ment to be align with the valve stem position. When done you'll require less weight to balance. On 4 tires mounted we only required to balance with weight one rim !!!
Great video!! tahnks for commenting about the rim protection. When 3 tyres are really good, the rim protection makes you chose one over the others. I agree that the PS4 sidewall looks the best, by far!! If you change to 245/35/19, the price difference is much much bigger between PS4/PS4S and Asy5
4 ปีที่แล้ว +1
About the rim protection being thinner on PS4, it is still definitely effective. I have them on Alfa TI rims (wellknown to be very soft), and while being extra careful, there were some touches where the rim protection works as its best. Not a scratch.
Out of the 4 premium brand tyres, you tested 3. The only missing one is now PIRELLI CINTURATO 7 P7C2 (the NEW CINTURATO P7) which is very much assertive on the official website of PIRELLI. I am kind of inclined toward PIRELLI since I used them for 4 years after 11 years use of BRIDGESTONE TURANZA ER300. Though, after watching your video, I now have propensity for MICHELIN too. Marvelous, hilarious, catchy, informative and exemplary tyre assessment video as always, Dear Jonathan. Thanx for your DEDICATED and HARD WORK! Cheers!
I've had the Michelins on my Ford Focus XR5 (ST in UK) for a bit over 12 months because I could get them cheaper than the other two brands and cheaper than the Falkens I was also considering at the time. When I first got them, the feeling through the steering felt as if there was an extra inch of compliant rubber on the tread on turn-in. They still gripped really well and I could corner harder than before. I don't notice it any more and grip levels are still high with plenty of tread left. I don't know if I just became used to it or tire wear has improved turn in.
Xr, I ditched the PS4 for Asy 5 on the ST (XR5) and feel they grip a lot better in wet and dry, minimal wheelspin and as stated in video you feel them bite into the road making steering feel more responsive. The GYs transferred the feel of the car.
As someone whos looking to change from 215/45 R18's to 225/40/ R18's on their C30 (the oem tire size really is just a bit too skinny for the rim, and gives what I like to call "negative rim protection") this has been great thanks!
You manage to make tyre reviews interesting every time, well done! I recently bought the Goodyear in 245/40/19 based on a previous review, am very pleased! Big step up from the Goodyear runflats that were mounted earlier. When you consider price the Goodyear is difficult to look past. Cheers!
On my 2020 Subaru WRX STI I changed out the heavy 19 inch OEM wheels with 245/35R19 Yokohama tires for lightweight 18 inch wheels with 235/40ZR18 Michelin 4S tires (lost 26kg of total unsprung weight). I really recognize your statements. Even though the steering was much lighter due to the lost weight I had less steering directness / response on the 4S vs the OEM Yokohama’s. The comfort was 100x better indeed. On the 19 inch potholes would feel and sound like they would break the car! The Michelin now absorbs them astonishingly well. I do have a little more understeer indeed. I might have a good alignment shop dial in some negative camber in the front to counter that a bit. Thanks for your awesome tire reviews sir! Best out there on the web! 🙌🏻
Tyre Reviews Yokohama Advan Sport V105. On the track they overheated pretty quickly ( th-cam.com/video/tDkV_C59qgc/w-d-xo.html ). On the street I actually quite liked them. This is my new setup in WRC sizes ( th-cam.com/video/yjmH8DisJ2U/w-d-xo.html ). Car is more fun to drive now. 0-60 dropped with more than half a second as well, consistently.
I'm confused, im a tyre fitter for Kwik Fit and my mate who works with me has 225/40r18 Pilot sport 4s tyres on his golf which he bought from Kwik Fit, in the UK
@@robwilton8001 na I've had MPS4 on my C250 for like 1/2 years now, on 18 inch wheel. Costing around £430 for set of 4 from Costco Size included : 2x - 225/45 2x - 245/40
MrAceeKidd I had MPS4 245/45 R18 on my S80, it was the 4s that were originally not available in the UK. They are a slightly different tyre and it was Michelin that confirmed to me that they were at that time not available in UK for 18”, unlike in the USA where you could get them, oh and 265 on 18” in Belgium for some reason.
Great test. Thank you, good job. I have exactly the same car and I was considering buying just these three tires. I finally bought Continental PC6 a week ago and I'm happy with them. It is a pity that this film did not appear a week ago because it certainly would have saved me many hours of analysis 😊
I'm so glad the eagle f1 supersport is available in 18in in Germany, making it the only option. Seriously don't understand the decision to have the tire only in certain market.
Run the GY F1 A5s in 17. They were a reasonable step up in steering feel over the old A2s I had. Absolutely would have opted for PS4S if it came in 17" size.
@@tyrereviews I've only seen the Michelin in 235/40/18 to be fair. I've been running the Ps4 on my Megane which have been great. Very tempted to try the Good F1 Supersports though. What would your recommendation be? Love your reviews BTW. 👍👍
Such a shame the 4S is not available in your neck of the woods. I put on a set of 4S in an 18 inch on my mk7 GTI and it absolutely transformed the car. Have roughly 25k miles on them and I can see them going for another 30k at least. Incredible dry and wet grip as well
@@tyrereviewsThey are less than half way worn! It being a relatively light vehicle that sees no track use has certainly helped. Lots of freeway usage too.
It's the end of the road for my Conti Contact 2 which were put on my Audi TT by the previous owner. Dry handling is awesome but on wet it's appalling, when with thread at 4.8mm! Anyway, I'm excited to have Asymmetric 5s fitted all around this Friday. Made my choice after watching this review a couple of months ago. Thanks!
I have Continental Premium Contact 6. Three days ago I hit a curb at a right angle with the front right tire. I got out of the car and looked at the tire, but I didn't see anything. Yesterday I saw 2 deep cuts of between 2 and 3 cm each and the tire was completely flat, without air. I was driving up to 120 km/h for those 2 days before I noticed the cuts and the tire didn't blow, I could have had a very serious accident. Therefore, a quality tire is really important for safety. I will continue to buy the same tires.
Here in Greece, all three are about the same price. Michelin always have some kind of coupons. For 225/45r17 you pay around 360€. I got MPS4 but I'm not sure about the grip. I didn't have the opportunity to test them on curly road. On city roads they tend to slip both acc and brake.
Brilliant review of the top three 18inch tyres. I went from PS3s to GYA3 18inch wheels on my 8th gen 1.8 Civic. I loved the direct response and communication from PS3s, but chose Goodyear AS3 replacements for better comfort. I was thinking of PS4 next time as I miss the f eel of PS3s, but interestingly it seems PS4s give relatively less info now compared to their rivals! Thanks for doing the review we all ( fellow tyre geeks ) wanted.
Very nice review/test. Great you included to mention rim protection although not in the conclusion phase especially as all the tyres had their pro/cons and were evenly matched. I guess Michelin need to strengthen the sidewalls of the PS4 to give the driving feel you're after on a sporty car. Better yet put out the PS4s in the smaller size for drivers that are willing to sacrifice a little comfort for feel.
This test prooves I chose wisely few years ago. My daily EP3 Civic Type-R is on these 17 inch GY. But my "sunday car" DC2 Integra Type-R is on these 16 inch Contis. Can't comment on them because I haven't been on track (I am not driving close to limit on road), other that I don't have anything complaints about them. Great test.
@andris so both are good for your Type R? Or perhaps which one you are leaning towards too? Please share your thoughts, thanks. I'm currently with AD08R for FD2R. Dry superb but wet horrible
Goodyear Eagle F1 for me as i went on price and reviews from users for my car swift sport 1.4 17 inch as it was around 20 pound a tyre cheaper than the Michelin. 102 pounds or 125 big saving for four tyres as you said.
It may sound banal, but thank you for mentioning rim protection. I'm driving kumho PS71 right now and I'm annoyed that they don't have rim protection. Every slightest contact with the curb leads to scratches. Very annoying. Happy to see that Goodyear have a good rim protection. This will be my tyre for next year. Thank you for this awesome comparison!
Great and informative comparison! I'm so glad I had my friend buy the Premium Contact 6, he wanted something sporty and this validates my advice. I wish I could get UHP tyres on my Suzuki Swift Hybrid lol 185/55 R16 is such a bad size...
Currently on a set of 18 inch goodyears, have run the PS4 and the SPC5 and the pzeros, i feel alot happier with the Asy5, does seem to lean alot on the sidewall, but still has plenty grip and road noise is pretty quiet, they will be my choice of tyres from now on
Using 245/45/18, 245/40/19 and 275/35/19 on different cars, I've never had problem with them leaning on the sidewall or the sidewall wear. I've been perfectly fine with ContiSportContacts, but Goodyears are comfier, with similar dry grip and less wear. However, the truly amazing wet performance is why I stick to them.
Thank U 4 talking about 17 inch as I went back to this size for comfort in my 325i and have michelin pilot sports and lose grip on slight turns at roundabouts trying to carry speed . Great and helpful review. Love all ur videos on tyres
On my E46 330cd last season had Pilot Sport 4's and this season got on it Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5's, and agree that Eagles gives much more info and time to play safely than Pilots. Michelins maybe were bit faster (grippyer) but not so infomative that you on the edge already, but with Eagles you feel them slip a bit sooner than expected but you can control how much slip you want very easily. 225/40 18 and 255/35 18. For my daily drives I like Eagles more, maybe some day will have Contis on to try, anyway thanks for nice review!
Thanks for the info man! I was looking for the same setup on front and rear tyres I have on my E90 M sport. I thinking about buying the Eagle F1s as well. I have old Bridgestones RFTs, which are terrible in all sorts of conditions, so I am looking for something safer mostly. Do you have any problems on worn out roads or when there are tracks on the road from heavy vehicles?
@@Keysersoze210 hi, i am daily on mixed roads. 80% B roads part of it new nice asphalt part rough, havent noticed on any of sets any inconvinience trough daily comute. BTW first impressions from Eagles was even more comfy and silent but maybe because that new ones and pilots were all worn already. But biggest difference was in early feeling of Eagles thats slipping already and more time to adjust also nicer acceleration on wet, my senses my storry so to say hope it helpts!
I bought assy 5 for my Porsche Boxster s as I have had assy 3 on my liberty gtb for years and my sti my18 and they have never missed a beat with traction and I do the great ocean road here in Australia a lot as i live in Victoria best wet/dry combination even better than the advan sport v105 the sti came with the Goodyear’s are awesome but on the Porsche the rears only lasted 10k !!! fronts were fine hardly worn ? Now i have Michelin Pilot sport 4 on done 2k going well I agree more comfortable but rear grip seems better turn in is good but with the mid mount motor balance is quite even so this may be the difference ?
That review was sharp and precise like a Continental tyre, comfortable and enjoyable to watch like Michelins and really worthy like a set of Goodyears! 🛞🏆✨👍
I hope it was worth the wait! What do you all want to see next? You can also follow me on IG here: instagram.com/jonathan__benson/
They do still offer the Sport contact 3 which i therefore use, and the Pilot sport 3 while goodyear with a reduced load index would offer the asymetric 2!)
fast car, average driver and average tyres VS slow car, fast driver and good tyres
Hi thanks for the show, I agree with you on the contis, you do feel the imperfections of the road surface but the steering is more precise, maybe a video about the mid range sporty tyres like hankook, Dunlop and Yokohama, take care and stay safe
I am looking forward to seeing the Uniroyal RAINSPORT 5 review and want to know how it compares to these three really.
Glad you like them :) If you find the time it would be great if you could leave your thoughts on www.tyrereviews.com too!
Same here same tyres.....the Goodyears have better road feedback....both are similar in the wet, and for grip they're both good.
I’m about to switch from PS4 to F1A5 too!!
I'm just doing this swap between PS4 and f1 5, working out £150 cheaper for the four, good to read the feedback.
For many years Goodyear was Simply outclassed by other manufacturers, I’m so glad to see them back in the game.
For sure, back to the top 3 premium sporty tires, at a lower cost! I would buy.
Never buy!
More than ‘back in the game’
Only issue is the wear rate. GY tires wear out very quickly.

Bought the Goodyear’s a month ago, and are so happy with them. Fitted on a VW Passat in 18”, they seemed like a perfect fit for the price, and I have not been disappointed.
If you find the time it would be great if you could leave your thoughts on www.tyrereviews.com too!
Thanks :) If you ever have the time, it would be great if you could leave your thoughts on www.tyrereviews.com too
Tyre Reviews no problem mate!
Great comment! If you find the time it would be great if you could leave your thoughts on www.tyrereviews.com too!
Cheers
Awesome, I'm glad I could help :D
Just about to reboot my 7.5 GTI PP and GYF1s it is then 👍 Thanks
Pretty much anything is an improvement on Bridgestone Potenzas. Awful tyre. Have no idea why manufacturers keep fitting them (I'm particularly talking to you BMW!).
I made 2000km with the conti’s and I’m really happy. The salesman told me that was supposed to be the most comfortable one but what I wanted was a sporty feeling and I really enjoy my purchase for that reason. Who needs tire protection when you are a real carguy? You just stay away from anything that can scratch the rims haha
Thanks for the review, glad you like them. If you get the time I'd love for you to put your thoughts on www.tyrereviews.com

It's coming, don't worry :D
My parents car is in 19" and they really hope it wasn't. It's a Grandland X with Continental SC5 SUV... It's bad for a car like that, we need comfort and low prices ! This video convinced me that they should change the SC5 for the PS4 SUV available in the same size.
My dad was really disappointed by how noisy the car is at highway speed (clearly tyre noise, because there is no wind or engine noise) and despite the soft suspension small road imperfections feels a bit harsh (the suspension do a great job over larger ones, but it's mostly the tyres that deal with the small stuff).
Lol, 15" here for maximum comfyness, because no need for good large brakes sitting in a traffic jam ;)
@@tyrereviews Do you know something about more os4s sizes?
So in summary actually just pick whichever you can find cheapest of the 3 in your area coz they're all so close that we shouldn't go wrong with any of them. Good comparison analysis as always and alleviate my doubts about the CPC6 which surprisingly is the sportiest of the 3.
Thanks for this test! Couple months ago I ended up buying the R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 for my BMW E60 (it's always raining in my area in Europe) and I very much agree with your observations in the video.

Thank you!
I look foward to your review :)
Yes the asymmetric 5 have better wear properties, but back the asym3 wore out way too fast
For me personally I don't really look for playful anymore as this has lead to many car write-offs when I was a young boy racer lol
I look for safe what will stop my car the quickest or keep my car on the road when it's very wet / greasy roads ect.
This is why I have PS4
Very sensible attitude :)
You are missing out on the handling qualities of your car. There is nothing to worry about wet weather safety with these tires.
@Antonio Farina more todo with the lack of fear and growing up
@@helixworld not really, im more concerned about the other knob head on the road that just pull out, I've had two very good with rare mods and add ons.
Really enjoy your videos. Thanks for making them. I went from 19s to 18s for more comfort and this was a burning question. Keep up the great work.
Appreciate it!
I appreciate that!
I continue to run the Michelin Pilot Super Sports on 18inch wheels on my M135i. I love them ! I only purchased a set last week.
Still very good tyres!
How it's going?
"Personality" on a tier! As usual... the best, most informativ information you can get. Keep up the good work and THANK YOU.

Ooo remapped, nice :) If you get the time please leave a review over at www.tyrereviews.com 😁
I got the Assy 5 235/40/18 just last week for my Scirocco , and the change from my low cost no name brand tires has been amazing. You cant hear anything , they grip the road in every situation + the price was much better than Michelins or Contis.
Very nice! If you get some time it would be great if you could leave a review on www.tyrereviews.com :)
Just switched to Continental Premium Contact 6 and the first thing I noticed is how quick and precise they are to steer. Perhaps too light in slow speeds, but wonderful when driving highways.
Glad our findings matched :)
Hi! And what about tyre noise. Do you notice more?
Did you ever put them on? My cloverleaf G is great on the 5's, and at the time they were £20 a corner cheaper than the PS4
Thank you :) Glad you're enjoying the PS4S
This is exactly the review I've been waiting for - I asked your advice on the PS4 and you also mentioned the F1 was a cheaper option - and now I'm completely stuck. LOL. I drive in the wet a lot, so will likely go for the PS4.

Most important question for me was rim protection, thanks for mentioning that!
4:05. Exactly my experience with the PS4. Such poor steering response and lateral stability, the tires were returned to the shop. Obviously I want to get the heavy and grippy feeling though the steering wheel when the front tires are loaded up. Thanks for your honest review.
Primacy 4 on daughters car and excellent all round except for poor lateral stability. Sounds like a Michelin thing..

If Michelin PS4S was available in 22540R18, it would be a different story all together of course. . .
Good choice! I think the Asym 5 will be a great upgrade
Cheers for the review 🍻 I'm rolling on PS4 at the moment and I agree with everything you said. Phenomenal in the wet but they're just not responsive enough on turn in

Nice! If you find the time it would be great if you could leave your thoughts on www.tyrereviews.com too!
Plus, it "objectively" delivers the best grip of any. Hard to argue with that...

@@HarryG98 Glag your happy with them. Im about to buy a set for my BMW e90.
You are simply tyre GOD! And I must say thank god that we have you! Keep doing what you are doing!
Thanks, appreicated :)
I've fitted Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 to my BMW e46 325ci and they're noisy but do have plenty grip! Will hopefully get to try them out on a track this year!
I can’t imagine having that grip on an e46, I have a 330ci and I feel like my UHP all seasons have more grip than I’ll ever need for the street, but for track or autocross they will probably be great
I've got the PS4 on and I totally agree with everything you've said. Feedback sometimes feels non existent and cornering can feel spongy.
Just put 2 Michelin PS4 in the rear end .
Agreed ....feels a litle spongy but the grip is there
This is exactly my issue with an Evo running on 17's. Please Michelin let us have the 4s in 17's in the UK, i'm currently running the Sport 4.
Last week I ordered four PS4 for my Mk7 Golf GTI and now finally you bring the video I had been waiting for!! I think I’ll be happy with my choice though. Great content, thanks.
Let me know how you find them!
Used to go tyre swimming when I was a kid those where good years 😂
I’ll see myself out
The grip on the Pilot Sport is phenomenal and they look great on my car...bonus
Best reviews on the internet! So much work and experience.
Glad it was helpful!
Have been running MPS4 on my Golf for the best part of a year. For road driving I can’t fault them. Wear well, stop and change direction brilliantly in both wet and dry conditions. Had Conti eco contact 6 previously.... quite possibly the softest tyre wall ever made! Avoid!
Well your previous tyre was a eco tyre after all :)
The EcoContact are known for being the softest of the soft tyres too, so you're summary is correct! If you ever have the time, it would be great if you could leave your thoughts on www.tyrereviews.com too
Waiting impatiently for one of your great reviews on Michelin Pilot Sport 5 vs Pilot Sport 4!
You and me both!
Cheers!
I couldn't get the new P7C in time, but I will
always best tyre reviews mate ! i got F1 assy at my s3 , now with my new golf r i go for michelin ps4
Let me know how you find them!
running goodyears on my mini cooper s for about 5k km, perfectly happy with them
Thanks for the review, glad you like them. If you get the time I'd love for you to put your thoughts on www.tyrereviews.com
Tyre wear definitely improves steering as there's less block movement.
Cheers!
Glad you like them! If you get the time, don't forget to leave a review on www.tyrereviews.com at some point in the future!
@@tyrereviews Done!
Thanks! What Yokos were on the OE setup?
Tyre Reviews Yokohama Advan Sport V105. On the track they overheated pretty quickly ( th-cam.com/video/tDkV_C59qgc/w-d-xo.html ). On the street I actually quite liked them. This is my new setup in WRC sizes ( th-cam.com/video/yjmH8DisJ2U/w-d-xo.html ). Car is more fun to drive now. 0-60 dropped with more than half a second as well, consistently.
Absolutely..: Michelin bring 4s to UK in 18” !!!!!
I'm confused, im a tyre fitter for Kwik Fit and my mate who works with me has 225/40r18 Pilot sport 4s tyres on his golf which he bought from Kwik Fit, in the UK
hAiRy HiPpY 24 Well
Last time I checked I couldn’t get 245/45 R18 ZR in the UK, perhaps hopefully Michelin has changed what’s available?
@@robwilton8001 na I've had MPS4 on my C250 for like 1/2 years now, on 18 inch wheel. Costing around £430 for set of 4 from Costco
Size included :
2x - 225/45
2x - 245/40
MrAceeKidd I had MPS4 245/45 R18 on my S80, it was the 4s that were originally not available in the UK. They are a slightly different tyre and it was Michelin that confirmed to me that they were at that time not available in UK for 18”, unlike in the USA where you could get them, oh and 265 on 18” in Belgium for some reason.
By my comment, I did mean Pilot sport 4 S's, he had them on for about 4 months now but preferred the Pilot sport 4s instead
Great test. Thank you, good job. I have exactly the same car and I was considering buying just these three tires. I finally bought Continental PC6 a week ago and I'm happy with them. It is a pity that this film did not appear a week ago because it certainly would have saved me many hours of analysis 😊
What do you think about the conti? Good in the wet?
Good choice! If you find the time it would be great if you could leave your thoughts on www.tyrereviews.com too!
Just tested the ps4s in the wet and the grip is mad. No traction lights with my torque monster 335i
Insane isn't it!
I'm so glad the eagle f1 supersport is available in 18in in Germany, making it the only option. Seriously don't understand the decision to have the tire only in certain market.
I hope the have it here in Malaysia too. I'm using AD08R now. In wet is was horrible
@@shauntan2266 I heard it rains a lot in Malaysia... :)
@@pedroneves8288 hmm.. during monsoon raining season yes quite a lot. But still far behind UK as I know
Run the GY F1 A5s in 17. They were a reasonable step up in steering feel over the old A2s I had. Absolutely would have opted for PS4S if it came in 17" size.
I just bought a set of Asymmetric 5’s last week because of your previous videos ! They feel amazing !
Glad you like them! If you get some time it would be great if you could leave a review on www.tyrereviews.com :)
@5:59 when GoPro falls , true testing of tyres then :))
Good thing the pilot sport 4s tire is over here in the states becasue I want to get them for my SS/LNF!
Introduction to this video was like pating on the back saying "I feel you bro"
The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S and Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport are both available for 18" wheels in the uk.
A couple of sizes, and I think the Michelin is OE only
@@tyrereviews I've only seen the Michelin in 235/40/18 to be fair.
Incredible dry and wet grip as well
I wish the 4s would come in the right size for my 330i, the regular 4 is gonna have to do for now 🤷🏻♂️
ANOTHER 30K?! That's insane!
Thanks!
Could you please do a video on run flat vs normal tyres?
I have Continental Premium Contact 6. Three days ago I hit a curb at a right angle with the front right tire. I got out of the car and looked at the tire, but I didn't see anything. Yesterday I saw 2 deep cuts of between 2 and 3 cm each and the tire was completely flat, without air. I was driving up to 120 km/h for those 2 days before I noticed the cuts and the tire didn't blow, I could have had a very serious accident. Therefore, a quality tire is really important for safety. I will continue to buy the same tires.
Glad you're safe!
@@tyrereviews Many thanks my friend, you really did a complete tire test, good job
@@tyrereviews thank you man 🙌
Here in Greece, all three are about the same price.
I was thinking of PS4 next time as I miss the f
eel of PS3s, but interestingly it seems PS4s give relatively less info now compared to their rivals!
Great test.
If you get some time it would be great if you could leave some reviews on www.tyrereviews.com :)
I made the same choice and I own the same car as you! What a coincidence haha
Me too
It may sound banal, but thank you for mentioning rim protection. I'm driving kumho PS71 right now and I'm annoyed that they don't have rim protection. Every slightest contact with the curb leads to scratches. Very annoying. Happy to see that Goodyear have a good rim protection. This will be my tyre for next year. Thank you for this awesome comparison!
The Asym 6 has ever better rim protection!
Great and informative comparison!
I'm so glad I had my friend buy the Premium Contact 6, he wanted something sporty and this validates my advice.
I wish I could get UHP tyres on my Suzuki Swift Hybrid lol 185/55 R16 is such a bad size...
Good advice :)
195/50/16 better
Did the film car lose a GoPro at 5:59?
Currently on a set of 18 inch goodyears, have run the PS4 and the SPC5 and the pzeros, i feel alot happier with the Asy5, does seem to lean alot on the sidewall, but still has plenty grip and road noise is pretty quiet, they will be my choice of tyres from now on
How would you compare the premium contact 6 ( or 5 in your case ) and the PS4 please ? In my case PS4 are 10% more expensive then conti prem 6
Agree, it's really amazing how little it rolls in turns, considering how soft the sidewall is.
@@dgukov I think that's due to tighter wires, even though the sidewall of the tyre is soft.
Don't feel my 246/40/18 to lean a lot. What size do you have?
I went for the F1 Assy5, fitted a couple of days before lockdown so all I've done is drive home on them! Still got the paint on and everything!
Thanks for the review. If you get the time I'd love for you to put your thoughts on www.tyrereviews.com
This is the exact video I needed. Happy with my Michelin Pilot Sport 4 now! Perhaps going to change to something different once these are finished.
Hard debating on the Michelin or the contis for my 911 right now.
That review was sharp and precise like a Continental tyre, comfortable and enjoyable to watch like Michelins and really worthy like a set of Goodyears! 🛞🏆✨👍
Awesome I have a Vrs and been looking at all these tyres.
Nice car ;)
Same, going for primacy 4's though as I dont rag it much, powers their when you need it though, but better touring for longer distances man
I was always leaning towards the pilot sports. Running uniroyal sport 3's at the mo. But after this review I will be looking at the goodyears
