    Cimo talked about it being debatable whether destroying the trap (Seven Tools) or spinning it back to deck (Wiretap) was better but the actual reason Wiretap was played came up in this match and wasn't talked about. Yes, HAT was a heavy backrow format so negating traps was very relevant but Wiretap was good for stopping Artifact Sanctum exactly. Sanctum pops a card on the field if destroyed by the opponent. Wiretap bypasses this by spinning, Seven Tools will destroy Sanctum activating its pop effect.

    We're almost at Duelist Alliance. From here on out, decks are pretty much going to be pure archetypes with maybe a few exceptions such as Dinosaurs. HAT was the intermediatory between these two deck building philosphies. You have cards which synergise with eachother based on mechanics & interactions rather than just all sharing part of their name with eachother.
    It's been a contentious issue for Yugioh, as a game and there is no easy answer.

    • @peepeevs
      @peepeevs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Hmmmm... I tend to be a bit of a Yugiboomer sometimes, but even I'd have to say mixing archetypes still happens quite a bit... Prank-Kids with Adamancipators, Shaddolls with Aleister, Swordsoul with Tenyi, Dragonlink was a mix of a few dragonarchetypes, and even Eldlich will often mix in Balerdroch and other zombies.
      Part of that is more recent though. I think your statement still holds true for the Pendulum era for sure. But they did try and fix it with some succes. I could also talk about the splashengines like DPE and Adventurer, but I guess you could say that's more akin to running staples..

    Although I never experience HAT, but after this epsiode, I think this is what the "ideal" Yugioh is like. This is not wombo combo game decided by turn 2 like modern Yugioh, this is also not slow as molases with occasional power spell sacking like really old school Yugioh. You can still do wombo combo if you can, the game is decently fast but still long withs lots of resources trading. Artifacts only ss themselves on the opponent's turn, so if you know something isn't sanctum,(either through ignition or if they didn't flip it at a time when sanctum was good) you can mst during the opponent's turn and you're safe. Hitting ignition kinda sucks but losing one bp isn't the end.

      Well, saying H.A.T doesn't have decks that can't explode on the spot simply isn't true. While they usually need one turn to set up, there are decks that can easily OTK on your next turn like Geargia Karakuri, Lightsworn Rulers and even Sylvans and Constellar Artifacts can otk with a good hand. And let's not forget XYT Infernity which won't let you play the game. The great thing is about HAT format isn't that it's slow (an argument that doesn't make sense to me) but that it's so diverse. And I don't just mean diverse in deck choices but also playingstyles. You had helmet decks like Bujin, "break my board decks" like Infernity, grindy control decks like HAT or Constellar and explosive combo decks like Geargia Karakuri and Lightsworn Rulers. There were decks for wichever playing style you prefered without being in a huge disadvatage against other decks.

      @@sulemanzakriya It's a wrestling meme. The WWE wrestler Randy Orton (whom I have no idea if he's still around anymore) has / had this jumping neckbreaker as his finisher called the RKO (Randy Knock Out presumably; it used to be called the Diamond Cutter when Diamond Dallas Page did it) and because it was so quick to hit, had a variety of creative entrances, closed out many matches, and for a while lacked the finisher signaling that other wrestlers gave their own finishers, the meme was that it was _really_ called the "RKO Out of Nowhere", largely riffing on the lack of creativity of the announcers who would often call it that exactly whenever Randy hit it.
      Think the TV wrestling equivalent of an OTK.

    I was a budget player and remember running a six sam deck since the format got slow enough I remember been buying a Fire Fist deck for a while, and I took my bears and tenkis add them to my six sams and got a good top for a regional, the deck that was my favorite pray was that exact geargia list. Bear was just too good for armor

    This series has been so interesting to watch through; I entirely stopped playing around the time the Dragon Rulers came out. My college roommates and I had just got back into the game our Sophomore years, came back for Year 3 and Draccosack was a "3-of" at ~$200 each. I would occasionally buy singles for MerLantean support as it came out, but college got wild busy and I had almost entirely forgotten the game existed before Pendulums were even introduced. I met up with one of my roommates a few years ago, played MerLantean against Silvan and that seemed like a fun match, but then he asked me which Links I was using and I literally didn't know what he was talking about. So... I guess I dropped out around Master Rule 2/3? Whatever the case, it's nice to see cards which don't need magnifying glasses to read

    When this set came out, one of my friends was very excited about it, due to Diamond Core of Koa'ki Meiru being in it. After it's release he showed up with a deck consisting of a small Koa'ki Meiru engine, a small Fire Fist engine and a small Traptrix engine. The rest were some generic good card available at this time.
    I asked him for decklist later and gave it a try myself. It was a lot of fun to play and eventually ended up being my favorite deck to play during this format.

    HAT was the first format I had Monarchs built IRL because of their newer support a couple sets prior. The back and forth with Hat was actually crazy even for a rogue deck like monarchs. From here up to the release of the monarch structure deck was the best string of formats in the game's history to me. Granted i'm biased as a monarch player. I miss being able to play my favorite deck and top locals and get invites without feeling forced into playing Meta. Here's to hoping monarchs get more support in the near future so I can stop "blos pass" making my favorite deck useless in the modern game.

I played it like that in testing until the day for Nats main event when I was told the real way. Who knows how many games I lost to this one bad ruling. ( Probably not many as I didn't do as much testing as I should have.) Hope to see Boxers in history of Jank. I know a few people tooks some Regional Top 8s with the deck.

    I still remember the argument for not running Upstart was exactly that it'd make games drag out and allow your opponent to swing the game with a powerful draw, so it was only encouraged in control strategies. I guess it also speaks to the lower power level of monsters back then, that even with 3 Upstarts you couldn't just inmediately seal the game.
