Great idea with melting cable ties as filler material. Didn't know their plastic compound construction was the same as the plastic fenders and such. Thanks for the ideas!
Nice to see a modest ans simple scooter getting some very decent TLC,. For a change. Usually YT has tons of videos of scooters being trashed for no particular reason other than stupidity. Thumbs up. Cheers
Hey i did this few days ago with a ziptie and i find your video way after, now i know i did it well, and you give me also assurance to make it better , smooth finish and well paint to, it was really fun and informative to watch this video. Thank you.
I was going to put some fiberglass and resin on the inside of the broken plastics for reinforcement and then filler in the cracks, sand and paint... im so glad i watched this video first. I was hesitant about plastic welding, but now I know I can use readily available zipties. It looks great! 👍 I have a rare scooter that they don't make anymore and parts are scarce, so replacement isn't an option!
Great video Martin, it's so good to learn something new as well, kind of reminded me of the old technique for repairing body panels (pre 1970's) when lead was melted into damaged areas
Well done Mate! I love channels like these for the DIY kinda guy. So great to learn new techniques. Now I reckon I just need to go break something, so I can plastic weld it back together. Cheers!
If i were your neighbour , the beer would be on me!. What a refreshing new technique. Welding plastic...i,m realy surprized. Verry good job mate, Thank you!!!
Cables Ties what an excellent way to fix cracked fairings; I wish I new this way when my son and I put together a damaged fairing on his motorcycle. Well done you did a cracking job on that Scooter, there's no hint on the state it was in before you repaired it. 👍 Ps: Martin hope you're doing fine now just make sure that you don't over do it, keep well. 😉
YES !!!!! Been waiting on my ButlerFix for ages ...... though I appreciate you’re still not yet firing on all 4 cylinders. Hope your feeling much better Martin, absolute trooper to keep uploading while you’re sick. Another great video as always. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Another Great Job again Martin,By the way I have noted that when you have done work on your Transit you have used Vactan as a rust inhibitor. I have just removed the roof rack off my 2008 Transit there is rust on the roof edges and and in the center of the roof where access over the years was difficult to clean. Now when the weather improves I will try that Vactan I have just bought on the rust before I spray the roof. So Thanks for your info on Vactan and I will let you know how I get on with it.
Great job mate,if I can Ofer one bit of advise is to drill a small hole at the end of the crack this will stop it spreading further ,I’ve fixed a few drones the same way
Martin, they do make epoxies, for lack of a better word, to repair those type materials. But if you can do basically the same thing, go for it. Nice ideas as usual...
Love your videos on both channels. Good honest restoring of so many different things. Done with tools most of us have. I do though prefer it now your talking in these resto videos :-)
Dear M;artin, one tip, grab the line together and then drill small holes in it, after the first plastic soldering, then solder again. Makes it even stronger, like rivets going through. No one in Germany repairs those scooters though. Even shops refuse to do though. Chinese made crap. Glad you do it.
What a great job . And really clearly explained so we all can understand the process, I have a question if I may , my Mums mobility scooter got badly damaged in a local electrical store . A new panel for this scooter is obsolete and so would be either very expensive to replace or impossible to find a replacement part . the damage is on the front. would this process you have used for this bike Possibly work for and my mums ability scooter panel which looks to be made of a similar material . Your thoughts on this please would be much appreciated . I can send some photos on messenger if you have time to look . Thank you for reading my message. And taking the time to make this video 😁
Yes, it would work. If it is just cracks, just do as I did in this video. If there are pieces missing, you'll need to repair thiose bits maybe with a fiberglass repair kit.
I bought myself a set of Wera Alen Keys or Hex Plus. I rounded off a bolt with standard keys, and the hex plus managed to get in there and save my arse! Available in Metric and Imperial. I recommend them.
You, sir, are brilliant! Who’d have thought to use plastic zip ties and a solderer? Great video, excellent work, and you can bet I’m sub’ing. Thanks for sharing!
I have a wee annoying crack in my e-scooter mudguard any time I bump anything you hear it and it’s loud . I don’t have solder gun I have a heat gun though imma try something like this first.last resort is new mudguard . I blasted it for a few seconds with my flame thrower 😂kinda melted together in a small area but I need it solid or on the drop kerbs it’ll snap again . Fed up stopping and taping it😂. Reluctant to renew it as I need to remove the light and everything and refit it
Well done. Does take practise doing the welding in plastic. I've done it before and it worked out fine, even burnt my fingers as I struggled with a car bumper wobbling around. I made more smoke than you appear to have here.
Great job plastic welding. I was thinking about buying the plastic welding kit from harbor freight with the heat rod and the metal clips ... but once again you have shown that English craftsmanship can overcome anything. How much money do you figure you saved by repairing these parts versus purchasing new parts? How do you determine if your material composition matches? That is to say...how can you tell if one type of plastic material is compatible to weld with another material? Love your videos. Love your personality. Keep up the great work. You
Great video, I’m going to attempt fixing a scratch on my motorcycle’s mudguard. Quick question if you could help?, when rubbed down enough to remove the scratch is it essential to use a plastic primer first or could you go straight with a normal primer?
Got a nice fishtail parka you can borrow, armed with your Dansetta, some northern soul vinyl and a fishtail parka and you'll be ready for the seaside fun :D
Held together with cable ties-but not in the way you'd think! Genius!
God bless you thanks....😊👍 Very useful....👌👍
Welcome 😊
Amazing skills my man. I was scanning the entire internet looking for it. The result itself was impressive good. Many thanks!
5:11 WOW, that looks like a cool custom marble pattern!
I would leave it like that to add some character to my ride!
Great to see someone actually mending something instead of just throwing it away! Good job sir!
Welding plastic. With a soldering iron and cable ties. Genius.
Thumbs up. Cheers
This is perfect!
My scooter also has cracks and scratches, but mostly faded plastics.
This will look sooooo good...
Absolutely amazing! Talk about using what you have on hand! Incredible repair.

Brilliant job Martin. I learned something with the cable ties. I’m impressed. lol
That was definetly a fantastic idea to use the cable ties as filler, I'll be using this idea when needed. You are the man Martin.
Excellent job.You sir are a Craftsman of high calibre.
Look great that will make someone a great little bike glad to see you are up and about hope your better now
Never seen that before with cable ties, brilliant job Martin.
“As you can see” you have some serious skills 👌🏻💪🏻
Great video Martin, it's so good to learn something new as well, kind of reminded me of the old technique for repairing body panels (pre 1970's) when lead was melted into damaged areas

Well done Mate! I love channels like these for the DIY kinda guy. So great to learn new techniques. Now I reckon I just need to go break something, so I can plastic weld it back together. Cheers!
Amazing what a little patience and know how can accomplish
If i were your neighbour , the beer would be on me!. What a refreshing new technique. Welding plastic...i,m realy surprized.
Verry good job mate, Thank you!!!
Cracking job as usual Martin get well soon mate.
Brilliant trick with cable ties martin, il remember that in case I send my bike down the road lol :)
Wow. Absolutely amazing. I would never have thought to use zip ties to repair it. Why the heat lamp?
Now i can stitch up my Choi Nori fairings. Thanks to you!
Nice way of making a few bucks fixing up scooter like that. Thanks for sharing
Man that is brilliant what a great use of cable ties good job
Good as new Martin. Only time I've done plastic welding was in 1985 when I bought the new crashed 550 Kawasaki.
Yes Malc, this turned out great and was very strong as well.
Great idea , I’m never to old to learn it seems 👍
Really enjoyed this one . well done Martin .
Fab job amazing idea with the cable ties just one thing it maybe an idea to blank out the registration plates
That mudguard was just aching to be a Cyberman/Alien Mask!!! Very inventive!
Cables Ties what an excellent way to fix cracked fairings; I wish I new this way when my son and I put together a damaged fairing on his motorcycle.

Usual thorough job, Martin.
Great job and a fix I've used in the past....another thing I do is drill a small hole at the end of the split just to stop further cracking.

Great job mate,if I can Ofer one bit of advise is to drill a small hole at the end of the crack this will stop it spreading further ,I’ve fixed a few drones the same way
Yes I normally do that but I didn't bother on this one.
That's that they do with small cracks on airliner wings, just to make you feel safer
Martin, they do make epoxies, for lack of a better word, to repair those type materials. But if you can do basically the same thing, go for it. Nice ideas as usual...
Lovely repair job. I’d love to take it for a spin. You are the bomb!💥
Very very well restoration! I love your channel

Top quality job mate
I bought myself a set of Wera Alen Keys or Hex Plus. I rounded off a bolt with standard keys, and the hex plus managed to get in there and save my arse!
Available in Metric and Imperial. I recommend them.
Thanks for this, never thought to plastic weld the farings! (Note for others the fumes are quite toxic so mask up 😉)
Please tell me the make and model of this scooter..i have the same one that is trashed i just inherited
WOW! Cable ties as a filler, fantastic. Have you heard of the super glue and baking soda hack? Thanks for the video
Yes i have but not tried it yet. Thanks
good job sir. you should have better ventilation when painting. great work
Another cracking vid mate, looking forward to your up and coming ones
QUESTION: How did you determine that the plastics from the fairing and cable ties were the same?
Great job by the way.
The fairing was marked with the type of plastic the cable ties were made from
@@RetroHax Aha, no voodoo then? Thanks for the quick reply.
You, sir, are brilliant! Who’d have thought to use plastic zip ties and a solderer? Great video, excellent work, and you can bet I’m sub’ing. Thanks for sharing!

*Nice one Martin!*
*Those zip ties worked well!*
*What's happened to your fence and poly tunnel in your garden?*

The plastic fairing had an ABS plastic mark on it and the cable ties were the same material.
Great job
Felicitaciones Martin!! gran vídeo, esperando el próximo!
Great video, I’m going to attempt fixing a scratch on my motorcycle’s mudguard.
Quick question if you could help?, when rubbed down enough to remove the scratch is it essential to use a plastic primer first or could you go straight with a normal primer?
I've used normal primer many times and its been fine for spot repairs but its up to you.
@@RetroHax thanks very much 👍
Good job got the same bike same damage I’ll have a go to mend it.
Looks great.
How do you verify that the plastic used as filler is the same as the plastic you're repairing?
the panels had a mark on them and the cable ties were the same material ABS plastic
Hi great vids mate,very therapeutic.

Got a nice fishtail parka you can borrow, armed with your Dansetta, some northern soul vinyl and a fishtail parka and you'll be ready for the seaside fun :D
Loving that ska backing music, sounds well like the Specials having one of their jams, spot on I say :)
Haha, you can't beat a bit of ska Ian lol
Nice job
