I’m 23 and been playing the piano for about 10 years and I got the P255 when it first came out in 2013 and it still works PERFECTLY! It sounds and feels so authentic, it has wonderful sturdy quality, great sound quality, an unlimited amount of features and effects, it’s very customizable, and I have NO complaints about it! It’s the best digital piano I’ve ever owned, and I use it for all my piano covers that I upload on my TH-cam channel 😊
I bought a Yamaha P-255 a few months ago and I can honestly say it was the best thing I ever bought. For anyone deliberating on whether or not to get one, I cannot recommend them enough.
I did briefly own the P115 before upgrading to the P255 after I'd tried it. Certainly I have no regrets - sooner or later I feel I'd outgrow the P115, whereas I simply don't feel I am good enough for my P255 yet and it makes me want to be a better pianist. I cannot see myself replacing the P255 for a long time. The key mechanism and response you get from the P255 is simply a different world to the P115. With its synthetic ivory keys it's a joy to play. The only piano in Yamaha's portable range I didn't really look at is the DGX range because honestly I wanted pretty much just piano - with a few bells and whistles like strings and organs for rare occasions. Also I don't like the idea of a piano telling me how to play it - I like to tell it who's boss :)
I had a p115 and then upgraded to the p255 as well and the sound is really rich and great. The only thing that disappointed me was the app it never updated with the newer iPhones and eventually became unusable and would turn off and say software is outdated. So that feature is no longer available now no matter what iPhone I used.
These videos are the best I have ever seen, bar none! You do an excellent job of describing the features of these pianos. I live in the United States and I wish you had a store here I could visit because it seems so many times, that the salespeople don't know the products and aren't able to guide me to the correct unit. Great job!
should i get the dgx 660 compared to the p45 or arius ydp 143 ? tbh i rather get the p115 due to the portability, but it doesn't sell in my country, but can dgx 660 be moved around just like any portable pianos ? if it can't, i might as well buy ydp 143 because it looks better for interior in the house
Or Android for that matter. Many people have Windows computers, or Windows Tablets, or Windows 2 in 1. Also, there are many ways to target all systems with minimum extra development.
I would just like to say I love the comparisons you do and as a Canadian I would purchase from you in a heartbeat. I purchased the P255 for my boat because I have a CVP 609 at home and like to play the piano on the islands that we go to and love the sound and portability of the P255. Keep it up. Cheers.
Thanks for the excellent reviews!!! I’m a beginner, but sound and performance is extremely important to me. Before watching your videos, I was going to buy the P115. Then the P255, for the performance and sound,,,, and then you introduced me to the DGX660. To get the better sound(since the speakers lack a bit compared to the P255 and yes the polyphony) and versatility, I bought the DGX with studio headphones. I love it.... It’s a total blast right out of the box.
The P-255 is great. A lot of serious players use these. Don't buy into the hype on some forums that Roland is better and Kawai is better because of some specs on paper, or because they have metallic chassis. Metallic casing looks nice but it's kind of ridiculous, unless you want to feel that the outsides will outlive the action and internal electronics by about a hundred years. I had my P-255 fall off it's stand onto a hardwood floor in the middle of the night (cats) and not a single problem with the P-255. Yamaha makes a workhorse and if you're not too vain about the casing and just want something that sounds and feels great, they can't be beat.
Thank you! - It's worth noting that both the Yamaha P115 and P255 have been superseded by newer models. P125 and P515. You can see full reviews and comparison videos here on our channel. Cheers!
We have had an upright piano at home for 22 years. It was used when we got it. My wife plays piano and is not a beginner, but she knows how. She recognizes that our piano is really not all that good. It is always a little out of tune even a few months after having it tuned. But it's been good enough for her purposes. She mainly uses it as an aid to "pick-out" new music as an aid in learning new music or song writing. She is a singer. She mainly sings in barber shop groups. We will be moving to a smaller house when I retire later this year and we don't want to move the piano with us. So we will be in the market for another piano after we move. An electronic piano seems like the perfect solution. I anticipate connecting it to our stereo amplifier for which I have two different sets of high quality speakers. Do you think she would become dissatisfied with a P45? Would the P155 server her better?
This is a great video detailing the depths for the determined to delve into the dilemma of deciphering which direction to take. If one is really interested in the *pure classical* entity, then the *P255* would be the better of these. If one is an *arranger* and likes the bells and whistles, go for the *DGX.* If one is a *hybrid musician* who enjoys playing different genres of music, then the *P115* will suffice. The weighted keys would not need to be overly precise, since, an organ, synth, harpsichord or Fender Rhodes, have their various touch sensations. He can also, midi or USB a program to enhance the sounds.
I'm an experienced piano player and I'm wanting to get a P115 for myself because I don't have the budget to pay 3 times more for the P255... Is there any other keyboard that has a closer price to the P115 but feels more like the P255?
Chris C I just ordered my P115, expecting it tomorrow, and found out then found out about the P255. I instantly thought, "damn, i should have done more research" then I looked up the price and thought "...I think I'm good with my choice".
I'm about to buy a piano mainly for home use. I've been looking at the YDP-142/143 and the P-115 pro bundle. What's the best choice? I won't be carrying the piano around as far as I know, but it might be good to have the opportunity in the future. Still the YDP series attracts me more. How big a difference is there between the YDP-142/143 and the P-115?
I was waiting for a comment about the comparison between the P-255 and the DGX-660, which has recording and other features. But is the DGX-660 as good sounding and playing as the P-255 is said to be?
To add to what you said: The key weight on the 115 is different than the 660. The former is heavier, more like a "real" piano, which might make a difference to some people. The very low end of the 115 sounds more realistic than the 660 too in the piano sound. My two cents is to avoid the 660 if you are a classical pianist and only want piano.
Jon: I agree: I am surprised, as you had stated, that the 115 has a better piano feel than the 660. Probably, the 660 is going for the crossbreed element, luring people into the faux-synth thinking.
First off, great video as always. Secondly, I just bought a P-105 because of your recommendation on the P series. Great little thing. Hoping i'll be able to opgradere to a 255 one day, or whatever will be the equivalent then 😊
If I am just beginning piano lessons and can afford it, should I buy the p255? I'm asking because many reviews I read mentioned that p255 is for intermediate to advance players and that the p125 is more suitable for beginners, I was wondering if there are any disadvantages for beginners to learn and practice on the p255 vs p125.
To me, the only thing that would matter would be the key action. Regardless of which piano I end up buying, the first thing I will do is plug it into my computer, slap on a fabulous grand piano or Rhodes plugin, some reverb, eq, etc., and it will sound great.
Totally agree that the key mechanicsm is most important. Not everyone wants to use computers to give them sounds though, and will find it much easier if everything is built 'into the box'. These pianos are very easy to use in this regard and that's why they're so popular.
I am leaning toward the yamaha dgx660. My son is a total beginner and so am I.... However, My older son can play and he is in a band. DO you feel the 660 is the most advanced for the price? I see there is a bundle for $799 online, do I need the bundle? Iam in the US
Hey what would you recommend the Kawai ES110 or Yamaha P255? and yes i can afford both of them just if your wondering so price doesn't have to do with any of this.
Thanks for your videos, they are very helpful and you answer all the right questions. I've been wanting to get my wife a piano to learn on, and at first I was thinking of getting her a Midi controller for her iPad, but realised that was silly. Then I started looking around, and thought I found a good piano with the Yamaha np12, but then realized it didn't have nearly enough keys to learn properly. Then I looked at the p45, and thought it was perfect, weighted keys, and full 88 of them.. Then I saw your comparison between the p45 and the p115.. then I saw your comparison between the p115 and the dgx660.. So I think I've settled on the dgx660, it seems to tick all the boxes except for synthetic Ivory keys which I think is fine. My question is this: white or black? I was hoping to keep it a complete surprise, from what I can tell the white looks a little bit more classy, but my wife may want to use it in church where a black one would blend in with the stage better. Lastly, how does the sound quality between the p255 and dgx660 compare? In your other comparison, the dgx660 was better than the p115, so I'm guessing there dgx660 sits somewhere between the p115 and p255?
I need your help. I love the "pianist style" feature the Yamaha P 105 has. Are there any other Yam models that also have this? Thanx. ps: I wish I could play like you.
Which of the the three P series sounds and feels like mox8 Or Motif? Thinking of getting one with some great feel and sound quality. I'm very basic. I used to hype up with the arrangers like the GDX660 but I want the piano. Something that feels like a piano or a serious piano-like synthesizers. Please help.
How would you compare the P255 to the CLP535 - sound and features? With a decent stand for the P255, there is only 145£ up to the CLP353 (Norwegian retail). I am a beginner to piano (I have been playing bass in a blues trio for 20+ years), and trying to deside on a first d-piano for me and my familie.
Remember P255 is designed to be portable so it's quite different to CLP535 which is designed to stay put like a traditional piano. The spec isn't too different but the downward facing speakers and lower cabinet on CLP535 certainly make the sound richer and fuller. Also the CLP535 uses a slightly improved key mechanism called GH3 which has an extra sensor and improves sensitivity. If you need to travel then there's nothing better than P255, but if it's staying in one place CLP535 would be better I'd say. Good luck!
So, I want to get a zillion piano midis and somehow play them through the P-125, via some type of USB or midi connection. Is this possible? And how do I control the selection?
Hi there. I am a professional pianist singer (always use real piano sounds) and also need a mother board for home (and no space for a real piano). You say P255 is 'closer' to professional level. Where does the standard start for what would be actually 'professional'. Thank you.
I guess by professional level I mean a professional pianist would be satisfied with the performance of the piano, it can give a sufficient range of light and dark for them to be able to express themselves. Hope that helps a bit.
Thanks very much. It was more a query of would there be a Yamaha Digital Piano that would be the go to instrument for professional working musicians who record/practise at home and also gig . Is the P255 the starting point for that sort of pro level...and what might be the next one up. I mistakenly bought the P45 in a rush (having had a P90 - which I'd had for years - suddenly die on me...which was a sturdy no frills workhorse). The key action on the P45 is terribly noisy it goes clackity-clack all the time. By the way I think you do a great job on these demo videos. Thanks a lot.
Thank you :-) If you can stretch to a P255 you're not likely to need to upgrade any time soon and most people would consider it pro level. P115 is very attractive because it's so reasonably priced but it does have it's limitations in terms of dynamic range and how much you can express yourself. Good luck!
I am planning to get the Yamaha P255 for my first piano, do you think it's good as a first piano? Also how is the quality of the p255 and where is it made?
If you can afford it, it's an excellent first piano because you won't need to upgrade it for a long time, and you'll be using a very real-feel piano key mechanism right off the bat. As for Yamaha being good it's down to personal preference. Yamaha is a different sound to the likes of Roland etc so if I were you I'd listen to a bunch of pianos from both manufacturers and see which you prefer. Casio also do some reasonable stuff but IMO Yamaha and Roland are the leaders. Good luck!
Hi! Thanks for the video!!! It's really useful to understand the differences. I am learning to play piano (just finished the 3rd year) and I already have an upright classic piano. However, I travel a lot and am considering to buy a portable piano. From that point of you, what would be the best options (best piano to take on holiday!!!)?
Mike: The floppy keyed synth feature changing and bending the sounds when one presses harder on a key, but this is not really a pure piano function. This video comparison is mainly for e-pianists coming as close to the feel and sound of a piano, commensurate with the costs.
I’ve been enjoying your videos. Am an adult above 40 years old and was wondering which piano should I get. I’m not sure if I will sustain this and for this I guess that I won’t spend much on my first piano. I came across the Roland Go Piano which I’ve not seen you comparing it with Yamaha. How would you recommend the Roland Go Piano over the Yamaha P115?
I might not ever play a an acoustic piano, which is ironic. I started off looking to buy a keynote 61 ii, then looked at the keynote 88 ii, then at the Casio CDP 130 and finally the Yamaha p45. Everyone recommended weighted keys which I am not all that sold on but...under 400€? sure. Yes, I bought one!! lol What sold me on it was the minimalistic design, very clean, love that. No screaming logos, buttons or speakers in sight. I will use mostly software instruments in a controller like setting, expect for piano practice I think.
Great video, thanks a lot ! The p255 is from 2014 and I heard that Yamaha was about to release a new model in may or june 2018. May being almost over, did someone has news on that ? It would be much appreciated ! : )
That news also I hope but I still do not know, maybe for another NAMM show, but apparently between P155 and P255 spent 5 years and it would be assumed that the P255 had to leave in 2019, although that is my guess. My very distant assumption is that it might change from CFIIIS sound to CFX sound, since the YDP S34 and YDP181, were launched with that sound, but as I say it is a distant assumption, sorry for my English
Flo_ A new piano has been released that is successor to the P255 and it's the P515, I do not know if you found out, and it has CFX and Bosendorfer sounds, just what I predicted
Hey, thanks a lot i wasn't aware of that news ! I almost bought a Kawai ES-8 but now I have to see what this new Yamaha can do : ) I 'm gonna spend the next several hours reading news and reviews. Once again thank you very much !
BLIMEY - Someone that can actually talk sense - like a lighthouse in the fog. Why don't Yamaha explain things like this. Thank you very much. I hope you ship to France.
A lot of buying decisions you make depends on your budget. For someone who hasn't got a lot of spare cash may buy a cheap keyboard but going to keep it for a while until there is a problem. Unless you are starting with a 61 keyboard you can't play complicated arrangements every one of these has 88 keys. Not everybody will upgrade from 1 generation of smartphone to the next. Other people may feel they have the cash but even as beginners they are willing to spend a bit more for a decent sounding instrument they don't have to upgrade when they get to playing Chopin nocturnes.
I disagree that the Yamaha P115 is a simple piano, when working in conjunction to the Yamaha there are countless sounds available, built in recording and due play with multiple sounds.
I've had a P-155 for five years and play mostly classical (Chopin is a fav). The old P-155 had a sticky key and rather than get it fixed, I upgraded to a P-255. What the guy in the video says about the 255 is absolutely true - it is a far more nuanced instrument than the 155. I can get a lot more out of any piece of music on the 255 than I ever could on the 155. I'm still getting used to the new amazing feel and rich resonance of the 255 compared to the 155. And for what it's worth, the cost of the 255 was about the same as when I bought the 155 five years ago.
Davin Carrillo - Davin. Did you ever find an answer to the weighted issue of the p155 vs p255?. I'm in the market to buy one. I do not need bells & whistles other than "layered effects." I just play piano, but I definitely want the "weighted" feel. Have been looking to compare a Roland PF30 also. Any advice on your research between the 155 & 255 would be appreciated.
I looooooove your videos, they are as good as a comparison can get :) But you seem worried with your furrowed forehead through the entire video though lol
Good video. But if we can talk less. Play more. Or at least have some sound testing in the front it the video. If so can get more viewers and followers I think. Yaya
One of the best reviews (on anything) I've ever seen.
Thank you very much.
Seconded!

Great news!! Happy playing.
I just bought a P-255 yesterday strictly because I watched several of your videos. Many thanks!
Thanks for the video guys! Was looking for a comparison between the P255 and the DGX 660. I will be enjoying the video.

Yamaha, would you PLEASE stop assuming that everyone has an iPad!
I know right? - But according to Yamaha the issue with android is down to android not them.
ePianos.co.uk are they good for pop music

I played the DGX & PX series arrangers and the feel and sound horrible. I hope p115 or p255 sounds and feels same as a Mox8 or some Motif88

Best review as always
Thanks!
Could you please do a comparison between the CP4 and the P255?
UK price between p45 and p115 price just over 100 pound in my country the price difference is about 600 so I choose the p45
Can you play a music piece that would show the polyphony limits of the P45 and the P115 ?
What is a good beginner / something that is going to last on my journey piano that is Android compatible?
Casio. Px-s1000 tough Im not really an expert, but Ive played for a bit and tried it. For the money I think it's really more than worth it
I am leaning toward the yamaha dgx660.
Can u use android phone and tablet instead of an apple product?
NO.
Can you compare the P-255 and the YDP-163 for me?
Christine Stone yea. I hope there's a comparison video as well..
Good luck!
Is P255 right for Grade 5 to Grade 8? Or it's even above that??
It would satisfy grade 8 players who needed a portable piano certainly.
ePianos.co.uk thanks
Scott Wilson go for P255
Good luck!
Brilliant! many thanks for your advice. Best wishes .
I am planning to get the Yamaha P255 for my first piano, do you think it's good as a first piano? Also how is the quality of the p255 and where is it made?
Also why should I choose Yamaha and is Yamaha good
Also when will they have new generations of the p serious anytime soon?
If you can afford it, it's an excellent first piano because you won't need to upgrade it for a long time, and you'll be using a very real-feel piano key mechanism right off the bat. As for Yamaha being good it's down to personal preference. Yamaha is a different sound to the likes of Roland etc so if I were you I'd listen to a bunch of pianos from both manufacturers and see which you prefer. Casio also do some reasonable stuff but IMO Yamaha and Roland are the leaders. Good luck!
Edison Siew 115 is less expensive so i would go with that
How much
what is the price of p 115?
Does the P45 have triple sensor keys? Thanks
Mike: The floppy keyed synth feature changing and bending the sounds when one presses harder on a key, but this is not really a pure piano function. This video comparison is mainly for e-pianists coming as close to the feel and sound of a piano, commensurate with the costs.
very helpful well done
I’ve been enjoying your videos. Am an adult above 40 years old and was wondering which piano should I get. I’m not sure if I will sustain this and for this I guess that I won’t spend much on my first piano. I came across the Roland Go Piano which I’ve not seen you comparing it with Yamaha. How would you recommend the Roland Go Piano over the Yamaha P115?
mahdi ali - Did you ever get an answer to Yamaha vs Roland. I'm looking at the Roland PF30 vs Yam p155?
What if you are not that interested in the sound because you use a computer but still want a weighted keyboard for practice? p45 is fine?
samiebuka I've had my p45 for 2 years and the keys are weighted but it feels very unnatural compared to an acoustic
I will use mostly software instruments in a controller like setting, expect for piano practice I think.
samiebuka and how is the p45 treating you so far?
CP300 vs P255?
I almost bought a Kawai ES-8 but now I have to see what this new Yamaha can do : )
I 'm gonna spend the next several hours reading news and reviews.
Once again thank you very much !
hi do you have any views on the p115 or kawai es 100, some say the feel of the e100 is better
ken2597 agree
Can I use the p125 in a wedding party ?
Yeah, you will probably need external speakers though.
Is the sound more or less the same between the p-45 and p-115 if you use headphones
No, the sound is still very different when using headphones most people say.
okay. thanks for the info.
ePianos.co.uk Interesting. Is this also the case between the p-115 and the p-255?
BLIMEY - Someone that can actually talk sense - like a lighthouse in the fog. Why don't Yamaha explain things like this. Thank you very much. I hope you ship to France.
Glad we could help! Yes, we do. Get in touch on sales@epianos.co.uk
I have the yamaha dgx520. Love it!
Thnx A Lot!!!
Very good video,
thank you
Very helpful
Thank you, glad to help.
First rate. Many thanks.
I disagree that the Yamaha P115 is a simple piano, when working in conjunction to the Yamaha there are countless sounds available, built in recording and due play with multiple sounds.
wow you told it like it is , that is so f$%king rare, you got a new subscriber!!
Yamaha reduced the quality of p155 and released p255 with higher price . 115 is not compareable to 255
I've had a P-155 for five years and play mostly classical (Chopin is a fav).
Love your reviews man....sucks me in...
Thank you sir.
im so poor so i just play piano online :(
Ah! Snap!
Hello
Hello Mohammad
HI GUYS!
The volume is low
I looooooove your videos, they are as good as a comparison can get :) But you seem worried with your furrowed forehead through the entire video though lol
My forehead does that when I'm concentrating.
NO LE HAGAN AL CANELAS EL DGX 660 , ITS THE KING
p is just playing piano, performance. nothing else.
dgx is for studio music making, one man band, music producing.
The keyboards on these pianos are not the same. They have different actions
Lots of people have ipads there common
ピアノがそこにあるのに、一回も弾かない動画、、
very wordy. .....
Good video. But if we can talk less. Play more. Or at least have some sound testing in the front it the video. If so can get more viewers and followers I think. Yaya
viki shut up.
