    Basicly iPhone X is brighter
    Pixel 2 XL has more details.
    The portrait, based on this video, Pixel 2 XL is more natural

    • @Jordensband
      @Jordensband 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      KevinMulia more natural... I'd say the best portrait on smartphones

      Jordensband I don't know since I don't have high-end phone.
      But from the image shown, Yes Pixel 2 XL has better images in portrait.

      saturated is the word, not bright. i hate over saturated, it has obvious clipping (clipping: the lost of detail due to over saturation).

      It does capture the voice better yes but once you bring background noise in like waterfall street noises it becomes really high pitched tinny sound. Google is gonna fix that though but for now the audio goes to the iphone. I'm getting a pixel 2 xl just letting you know so I dont sound bias or anything.

      KevinMulia Recheck the portion of video after 6:00. I know what you're saying, but the choice it clear here: his voice on both phones is fine, but the background for Pixel2 sounds underwater, or like muffled digital noise. The kind of sound i don't want in memories I'm trying to record and keep!
      Cheers

    Great comparison! I have both phones, and I'm pretty much aligned. I prefer the pictures on the pixel 2, and the video on the iPhone. The fact that you can shoot 4k at 60fps is just awesome. Lowlight video on the X is better as well. Audio on the p2 is much better, as is stabilization.
    For me, when you factor in price, the pixel 2 is the better overall camera.

    • @RennieAsh
      @RennieAsh 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EW you really prefer that audio? It may be louder, but sounds like audio from a phone 10 years old. You can always turn up the iPhone audio afterwards and it will sound much fuller.

  • @ReggieU
    @ReggieU 6 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    iPhone X HDR is super good. I prefer Pixel macro shots a lot more - the extra micro contrast makes the detail pop. Pixel audio >> iPhone no contest. Looks like the Pixel is heavy handed on the saturation at 4k. Pixel seems to be more consistent in front facing exposure. Portrait mode is on point as well. Both awesome performers, great video Grant!

    This is the BEST camera comparison that I have ever seen. No offense to Mr Jwill. I agree with what you said. It seems like the iPhone X has trouble with things that are very white. Tough call, results seemed mixed to me. Pixel front camera crushed the IPhone X with the details clearly standing out. IPhone seemed to bring in light better most of the time, especially in low light. It generally lacked the great attention to detail as the Pixel again though. At times the Pixels colors looked off though. Did that sky really look torquoise? I give it to the Pixel because I thought it generally shot what was directly in front of it better.

    • @GrantLikesTech
      @GrantLikesTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, no idea why the sky looked like that on the Pixel 4k video.

    Video and audio to the iPhone. Still photos to the Pixel 2. Overall the iPhone is the more consistent performer, but if a still camera is all you want, then the Pixel 2 is great. Especially in sunset/sunrise pictures, where most phones struggle. iPhone also does a bit of Samsung boosting colours in the still pictures...

    Pixel's camera is way ahead of iPhone's, anyone who say's anything other than that is either a fanboy or blind. iPhone overexposes, loses detail and fails at color reproduction, the depth of field is realistic and better but the lack of detail ruins it. 11:10 says it all !

      Shocky people to this day still can’t use the iPhones camera. They just point and shoot not understanding how this lens is prepped to take a photo. I can easily show you pictures that will blow your mind with this iPhone X because I understand the lens.

    • @Hakotaf
      @Hakotaf 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I agree, the auto nubs can make any lens look bad, but that's mostly for DSLRs, a smartphone however has to be consistent with its photos in auto mode, and you have to give it up to Google for the brilliant software optimization, hence the win for the Pixel in this comparison :).

    The only department iPhone X wins is the low light video recording and optical zoom (daytime only). I am amazed how Pixel 2 dominates the iPhone X in every other department with single camera. Especially, video sound and portrait modes. Pixel 2 is just killing it!

    First, amazing video.
    As to photos, I’d classify it like this. The iPhone X looks like a very very good phone camera. The Pixel 2 looks almost like a DSLR, the detail, dynamic range and contrast ratio is incredible. The Pixel is clearly the better in low light and its front camera is significantly better with the iPhone looking softer.
    As to video, the iPhone may actually have the edge here, save for stabilisation which can be very important. This video has fairly stable walking with the phones I assume both attached to a simple rig. Start bouncing about more , as you would be in a real life environment where you are probably not so smoothly walking and holding the phone so steady, and that Pixel shines.
    Overall as he says there’s shots you can get on the Pixel you cannot get on the iPhone, as a photography lover myself there is just something about those shots that is subtle but makes a big difference. Google did a phenomenal job with that phone save the blue tint screen at angles.

    Iphone photos are more pleasing to eye due to the warmer contrast.

  • @rodrigocontreras1656
    @rodrigocontreras1656 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great comparison. I lean slightly towards the bit more saturated iPhone images color wise, that extra little pop is pleasing to the eye, but the Pixel image details are just amazing in comparison. I don't know what extra stuff their sensor has or what they're doing software wise but the detail of the hairs on the dog pictures are night and day, and it's not like it's being overprocessed(like Samsung tends to do), it's like the sensor takes in more information somehow because it still looks very natural.
    Now for video, they are fairly close in quality, but I think I see why people have complained about the Pixel audio now. It is continuously processing noise cancellation, and you can easily hear it with the windy shot of that tower with the plane noise, where the iPhone keeps in the wind noise and plane in the background, but the Pixel completely cuts out any wind and the plane sounds muffled, and this adds a very processed tinny tone to the audio. Maybe they can accommodate an option to turn that completely off or lower how much processing is being done on the audio. I do like that it's much louder though, just way overprocessed.

    The colours on iPhone X photos seem to be off most of the time. Pixel 2 XL wins in terms of producing better still images. But for videos I prefer iPhone, especially when it comes to shooting in a blue sky condition. The blue colour looks green-ish on Pixel 2 XL videos... not good. And the audio coming from Pixel 2 XL is just atrocious.

    • @RennieAsh
      @RennieAsh 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's not a big difference with the people on the Apple Store pic. It could potentially zoom in though. You cannot fix over saturation as easily as just reducing the brightness. There are times where the Pixel would also show you your subjects in "police work" where as the iPhone would be over exposed.
      The only person you're fooling is yourself, picking one thing to convince yourself while ignoring everything else...

    What I found really odd is that the RC pics from the iPhone looked better to me at the Google Campus. Yet the Pixel 2XL pics looked much better at the Apple Campus! That's kind of ironic. • @azncoolboii
    @azncoolboii 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A brighter picture does not mean a better one. The iPhone over exposed 90% of the pictures taken. The only area I can give the iPhone was the 4K recording because that blue sky during the 4K test looked unnatural on the P2XL and for audio recording since the P2XL is known to have audio recording issues which is coming with a fix. On the other hand though, you can tell Google was attempting to use software in the mic to block out background noises, which is why the audio on the P2XL seemed so much more clear and at the forefront despite the bad bug that causes those tinny issues. Even portrait shots on the P2XL was better, with his hat being blurred every time and his ears too, while the P2XL kept it in focus.
    Google definitely did something amazing with that machine learning, one lens cam taking out the double lens.

    I notice the pictures on the iPhone are over all warmer but I see far more hot spots on the highlights there too. The Pixel 2 shots may not be bright color-rich but the dynamic range is so much better than the iPhone's, meaning that post production, if needed, on the Pixel 2 would be much better than on the iPhone. The video stabilization is also so much better on the Pixel 2... I'm starting to love that cell...

    Pictures: Pixel 2 XL. iPhone X had nice pictures too, but I think the Pixel 2 XL had more details. Very natural and detailed image processing.
    Video (never thought I would say this): iPhone X (1080p and 4K).
    I think the Pixel 2 has mediocre 1080p and 4K video processing. iPhone X videos looked more natural. That might be why. However, the OIS+EIS combo really looked more steady compared to iPhone X.

      I agree, I want to get a pixel but the noise cancellation is way too aggressive. A lot of people just hear louder voice = better. But it’s so tinny and horribly distorted if you listen on anything better than a phone speaker that it’s a real turn off

    • @NeophyteCounsel

      Some people actually praise that audio. Given how everyone seems to only like phone speakers as hifi these days, it's little wonder that everything sounds like trash. If it's louder with boosted up treble, they like it. If it pumps them in the chest with bass, they like it. No matter how distorted or tin can it sounds...

  • @jonjoe89

    In a nutshell Google Pixel 2 for front camera, iPhone X for rear camera.
    Here's my breakdown after watching the video. Pixel 2 clearly take better selfies in just about every scenario. Daylight, lowlight, indoors, outdoors. Much better portrait mode with front camera on pixel.
    I think iPhone had the better lowlight and daylight photos overall, but when facing the sunlight, the pixel handled the scenery much better. Not over exposing, and holding on to the dynamic range. The iPhone failed miserably when facing the sun, but when looking away, it had the better pictures. I give the edge to Pixel 2 in daylight video recording, because of stabilization, but the iPhone X seemed to focus better. The iPhone X has the edge in lowlight video. Pixel 2 seemed to have some sort of blur (if you will), in lowlight.
    Tough choice, but overall I think I would choose the Pixel as well.
