    Speaking for the UK all older Fords had that type of battery clamp and very good it was too. Maybe a lip or angle iron the shape of the battery (so a rectangle) which could then be welded to the existing clamp? I think that would work well if the metal used was strong enough. i would like to see this car fully finished, I think that would be really nice. Thanks Steve, very interesting video.👍👍👍

    Car isn't a gt. All gts were a code meaning 4 barrel carburetor.

  • @JuMaSa63
    @JuMaSa63 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice Mustang, but as a C-code car it's not a GT despite those fog lights and GT badges. Should be either A- or K-code to be a real GT.

    @afmajor322 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Having a “C” code in the vin number brings into question if the car is a factory GT or made into a GT. In 1966 a factory GT would of had an “A” code or “k” code for the engine code.

    • @AtlasCroc
      @AtlasCroc ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agreed, to be a true GT it would have a 289 4V - 225 horse, or the 271 horse HiPo. It doesn't have to be a GT to have those engines, but a GT did have those engines.

    First off you can’t call this a “GT” it is not a factory GT. It’s a “C” code engine it needs to be an “A”code or “K” code to be a GT. None the less a nice car. Do some more leg work on the battery. They are around. Just purchased one for my 66.

    Thart battery is scrap - don't waste your time or the energy to try & charge it. Anything that has been sat much less than 50% for any reasonable length of time will be damaged. Something that has been totally discharged & allowed to sit will be totally sulfated. Even if you can get old batteries to chrge they will generally have a fraction of theur rated capacity, high internal resistance which means basically zero cranking performance & more worryingly the sulfation actually results in mechanical expansion which can lead to internal shorts which result in best case high self discharge & worst case a short which can result in some fairly nasty results including explosion.

    Testing was well done & interesting. A '66 coup hardtop with a straight 6 cyl auto was my first car in 1973. It was already wore out with 86k miles & needed a lot of weekend work for 5 years I had it. My dad taught me a lot about how to work on cars since it was simple under the hood with lots of room to work. It got me through HS & college before selling it for at least 1 dependable drive between me & my wife.
    It was no muscle car or GT but it was stylish, cool to cruise around & I loved it.
    And of course it's honestly the only car I wish I still had.

    That is one fine looking 'Stang.
    You could epoxy clips to a new battery usinf JB weld I am surprised you hit the starter without first being sure you could turn it 360 by hand ! By the sound it has a tight spot and puting some lube down the spark plug holes would have been a good idea to possibly save from breaking a ring.. Your tutorial on the remote start is great but why not show the viewers that you also checked to be sure there was oil in the crankcase befor turning it over. Some yougsters at home may need tha knowledge.
    I would have removed the plugs and cranked it over to build up oil pressure and put the feul line to the carb in a bucket to see what came out. Ten years is not so long if the gas was treated or maybe had no ethenol in it. With all that rust you think is stuck to the tank will start to break of you should have put a see thru filter just before the carb.
    Great start up, can't wait until the rest of the "Will it Run" 😊😊😊

    • @ThisWeekWithCars
      @ThisWeekWithCars  ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually saw a video or post where someone modified their battery with epoxy and then ground it down to look like it should. A battery is very heavy though and I’m not sure that solution would be strong enough for anything more than a show car.

    What I do with batteries like that especially using smart chargers is after topping the cells off is I hook a jump pack that's not a smart jump pack and the battery charger all together. Then I'll apply ever increasing loads with the charger unhooked and repeat. The reconditioning function of every charger I've used hasn't worked so I do this instead.
