  • Last week you saw us pull this 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 out of a pole barn it had been sitting in for nearly 30 years. Unfortunately, she didn't start up on the first attempt, but that didn't deter Davin as he set to work gathering a few parts to get her back up and running. So, join us as we get a little greasy and hopefully hear this classic roar again. Be sure to check out part 1 here: • Will it run? "Ran when...

To everyone worried about the vacuum advance, it will be hooked up eventually. Davin didn't want to introduce the potential of a vacuum leak and then have to chase any issues related to that. It will start and run all day without the vacuum advance hooked up. We were trying to expedite the process of getting this pony back on the road.

Here in the UK, my step-father was a mechanic at a Ford dealership for about 30 years ... retired mid 1990's. I would often get a shout on a Saturday morning that he needed help with a private job. He never actually needed help so i got to do the go-fer jobs and i learned a few things. Watching this video and seeing Motorcraft boxes was, for me, like falling through a hole in time. Thanks for the memories. I cheered as well when the engine fired on the first turn of the key.

Great job. I was the original owner of a special ordered 69 Mustang coupe 351 Windsor 4 barrel (Autolite) GT package 4 speed with front discs, BFG radial tires, and limited slip which I ordered through the PX in DaNang, VN. Sold it about 95K miles later due to the 1973 gas crisis. This car certainly brings back memories.

That's a great sound after 30 years! We're in the middle of a 1968 fastback restoration project for the past 2 years. Car is down to bare metal with everything stripped out. Already replaced the floors and torque boxes, front frame rails, rear frame rail, inner front fenders and inner/outer cowl. Getting new full rear quarters, full rockers, new front fenders and new door skins starting next week. Still a long way to go but your video is an inspiration!

Love the content of this channel. It's relaxing, nicely paced, lower key soundtracks, it's a nice place to be. It's not a mad rush, loud mouth, forced-acting type of channel. It's almost as if Motortrend doesn't own this.

I always carried extra points, condenser and just about all ignition parts when I had my 73 mach 1,351,Cleveland cause you never knew when or where the points would "burn" out. I also was thrilled when it came back to life great job brought back so many memories man I miss my mach 1,I keep telling myself that I'm gonna get a classic back but with the prices of old mustang's in decent shape I'm gonna have to hit the lottery first

  • @stevekarr4613

Having been a Mustang aficionado since the 70's, and a former 69 mach 1 owner (390 4-speed), I can tell you that this is a very original mach 1. The "M" code 351 (4V) aligns with the quad exhaust tip rear valance, the hood pins, wheels, "comfort weave" interior, the rear pillar emblems, the gas cap, hood scoop (with rear turn signal indicators), and flat black hood are original mach 1 items. In my humble opinion this car is a great candidate for an original restoration. Also, as mentioned below with the original coupe owner below, the 4V 351W had an Autolite carb.

Fords of that era the most common sources of oil leaks are the valve cover gaskets followed by the intake china wall gaskets and the distributor base gasket. If you find a leak under the car on your driveway it's probably the rear main seal. The carbon on the plugs might be due to worn valve guides and or hardened seals which were extremely common on cars and trucks with over 50K.

I bought a new 69 Mustang in that Jade Green. Ran good for a while. Back to dealer. They found someone at the factory must have dropped one of the point screws and it ended up down on the centrifugal advance. Had ground the distributor housing till it almost cut it off. Full of aluminum dust. New car got new distributor.

Great job Davin! Nothing like that first start up on a car left unloved. I did the same once with a 1978 Thunderbird Diamond Jubilee edition that I rescued from becoming a junkyard gem. I hope the rest of the rejuvenation goes smoothly, I noticed that those godawful wheels are still under the chebby truck!

This is a perfect example of whats so satisfying about owning a classic. The simplicity of ownership. Sure. It doesn’t compare to newer cars as far as ride quality and power. But if you really feel the need to beat on a 40+ year old classic, you’re likely going to upgrade everything to handle the abuse. I have an S Code 67 Cougar 390GT. And love wrenching on it. Except for the lack of engine bay room from them stupid shock towers. 🤣

June 27th I started my 9F02R for the first time in 11 years. Bought it June of 69 and never had fuel issues until this time. I'd start it every 5-10 years run it for maybe 1/2 hour. Have not changed plugs or oil since 1971. Didn't even bother to pull the car cover back over the cowl... just jumped the ign on the sol to run it. THIS time I suddenly had carb gaskets leaking and when I pulled the bowls to change them the gas was "lumpy".. Couple of weeks later I wanted to change bays but would not run... no fuel. Plugged fuel line to the tank... Rigged a 2 liter bottle for fuel and moved it but plugged line?? some day..

First thing I would do after spark plugs removal is to measure compression 🤔 (naturally blocking fuel delivery as well)
BTW there are historical cars where positive is a ground, so procedure is exactly opposite when removing/installing battery. It should be checked which terminal acts as ground and act accordingly.

With the GM cars with external adjusted points on a tune up I take out the plugs and then replace the point . It makes it easier to set the points and with a dwell meter with the the plugs out . In that respect your
Ford is a different animal .
I bought a 70 Camaro brand new . I noticed both my rocker covers were leaking . The bolts
to covers were no more than finger tight . It's my experience that once corke gaskets leak the only you can do is replace them. I snuged up the bolts but that only slowed down the leak .
