    If anyone is still on the fence about the Panasonic S5, just read this:
    1. Full Frame 4.2.2 10 bit
    2. Unlimited recording in 8 bit 4k or 10 bit 1080.
    3. 5.9k external Pro Res-RAW
    3.5. 5.9k BRAW externally with Blackmagic Monitor
    4. Anamorphic support built in ( with desqueeze)
    5. 180 degree shutter angle
    6. Removable rubber slot for Dummy battery cable
    7. Dual native ISO
    8. Great battery life
    9. Extremely reliable. No overheating in any modes
    10. $1700 on Amazon.
    11. Built in time lapse that creates the video in camera.
    12. Great low light performance
    13. IBIS
    14. You can get two of these for the price of 1 A7siii or FX3.

      @@mustdi39 Regarding "dynamic range" there are a number of variables I tweak to work on it, including:
      1. Using lenses that render lower contrast (the Canon FD lenses Patrick uses are well-known for this characteristic)
      2. "Expose for the highlights" to avoid overexposed areas (overexposure can make the image look like it has less dynamic range) unless shooting in RAW, where you "expose to the right" to favor the shadows.
      3. Use a filter to reduce the contrast, such as Tiffen's Hollywood FX filters (including Black Pro Mist). I used to use cheap, plastic Cokin filters when necessary to lift the shadows and smooth highlight rolloff, etc.😄

    I sold my pocket 6k for the S1(your channel helped with that decision)..Trade offs were full frame, stabilization, lens adaptability, better form factor, tilt screen (i prefer over flippy), low light, photo capability, and in my opinion an on-par image. I sensed it was going to be the hidden gem for those of us down the 'new release' rabbit hole last fall... and to this day, keeps blowing my mind with how capable it is for internal shooting alone. ProresBraw and Raw and... blah blah blah... f** that. After speaking with all kinds of post and pre-workflow geniuses, including Alex Mack, shooting 10bit 422 with spherical on this beast is better than what *anyone* reading this will *ever* need, including widescreen festival projection. It's cinema in a box. As for any actual filmmaker detractors? Cassevettes would lunge from his grave and wrap his cold dead fingers around your throat for wanting anything more than this thing gives you. Run to the nearest dealer and git one. I beseech you. And if you need AF, you're not doing it right. Use adaptors, get the lenses you like, and tell some great stories. There. You're future-proofed for at least the next few years, given *no one* screens movies in 4K because downsampling from 4K to HD or Prores 422 HQ is more than good enough. Git on it. You're welcome

    I agree that people get too hyped up about the cine camera vs mirrorless debate, but my issue with the fx3 is how Sony calls it a cine camera, even putting the word cine on the body, but without giving it any useful internal tools, like waveforms or shutter angles (180 instead of 1/50 for anyone who doesn’t know). Which are features in your S5, so I would argue your S5 is more of a cinema camera than the FX3. It just feels like Sony was trying to pull bit of a fast one, like painting a car red and saying it’s faster…

    Here's what Sony could have / should have done.
    Instead of making the a7S III and the FX3, create a single camera with a detachable EVF. Bonus points if the EVF had an HDMI input so it could be repositioned anywhere on a rig. I know some companies like Zacuto and Portkeys sell specialized EVFs that work this way, but Sony could have made one that made more sense both on and off the hotshoe. They could have made the EVF an optional purchase or sell it in a kit.
    On top of that, I think a proper cinema or video camera should have built-in ND filters. I don't think that would have made the camera too unwieldy. Blackmagic proved it could be done without adding too much bulk to a camera. (Granted, the BMPCC 6K was already bulky, but the 6K Pro isn't that much bulkier.)

    • @impatrickt
      @impatrickt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s just no market for that in the segment the fx3/A7siii targets. The 6K pro is a mess of ergonomics. One of the most uncomfortable cameras I’ve ever used.

    Brother please I need help. None is replying to my comment lol. I am debating between the S5 and the Sony A7C. Both cameras come with a kit lense and their respective price as used in Excellent condition is $1750 for A7c and $1800 for the Panasonic S5. Kit lens for S5 is the 20-60mm and the A7c is 28-60mm I believe. That being said, if I buy the Panasonic S5 new,then there's a promo going on where I also get for free an extra lens, a Panasonic S85, so basically it would cost me $2200 usd new in box with both lenses. I just don't know if that 85mm lens is any good,if I would ever need it. Also there's an S5 in a store locally in a decent condition,it shows it has been used but is very clean, for $1550 also with tbe kit lens. I just don't know what to get. I will be doing standing still blogs,sort of seating down like you in this video or standing behind a desk talking about a product, although from a further distance, and I also want to be able to film the interior of custom desktop computers I build so I guess low light performance should be good. What do you recommend man, iam so confused

    • @impatrickt
      @impatrickt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      a7c is kind of an oddball in the sony lineup. it has older color, old menus, its only 8 bit. but it has great autofocus. it has to come down to whether or not you want autofocus + cheaper lens system.
      if you want superior video features, minus AF then go lumix.

      thank you so much man. Well actually the A7c for $1750 got sold, so now my only option left is an A7c body only for $1550, by the time I add a lens it might end up costing $2000. Might as well get the S5 new for $2200 with both kit lens and 85mm lens at this point.
      Thanks again 👍👍
