I really dont understand that gap from 10mm to 35mm, Meike need 21 or 24mm lens to complete this set🤔 Edit: Their customer support told me, 25mm will be available in September
from what i can tell, theyre reusing the 16 and 25 from the mft line. I assume that they might be slightly reworking the 16 since it wasnt designed for s35, and it vignettes a little bit on a bigger sensor (see: m.th-cam.com/video/Jftvb4AGbPQ/w-d-xo.html). The 25 is the one that is the most prone to CA, so maybe theyre trying to fix that too.
these lenses together with the pocket 4k are probably the best deal if youre starting out and interested in making movies rather than content. everything tighter than the 25 really requires a mattebox against the red flares (unless you like that look).
@@OurVoicesOurLives i havent used rokinons/samyangs in a few years, but i dont really remember liking them very much. Sure they cover a larger format, and are more easily adaptable, but theyre not particularly usable below f2.8 or f4 really, unlike the meikes. More and worse chromatic aberrations throughout the range, some of the lenses have bad breathing and etc. With the meikes youre locked to a mirrorless mount (altho most of the MFT range is easily adaptable to E mount cameras in s35 mode), but theyre that cheap that i dont think it matters very much. Image quality wise the Meikes perform slightly better than the Zeiss CP2s Ive rented on the pocket 4k (via a PL mount adapter). I think that by itself says enough really. People could argue theyre not future proof, but if you ever really need anything considerably better, you would probably have to rent a more serious cinema camera, a more serious pl mount cine lens set, and the cost of that rental over a few days will probably be more than 1 affordable FF cine lens, or half the meike MFT/mini prime set lol.
@@spensersakurai Thanks for that! Have you done any comparisons of the FF to the original s35 primes? I’m trying to decide between the DZOFilm primes or the Meike s35 primes cuz they are a lot cheaper. There’s tons of videos comparing the FF Meike primes to the DZOFilm so if they are similar then I can actually rely on those comparisons.
Yeah I liked the look with the red flares in the shadows, it made it feel a bit vintage! Thanks for another helpful video that examined more then just the newest hottest full frame gear
I've been on the fence buying this set but I think this video just made me confident in my decision for some new optics that are color matching. Thanks for the info 🤘
Does anyone know if the glass is the same in the RF mount Mini Primes and the MFT lenses? The RF have a Red ring around the bottom and look to be a new design with different glass. but the MFT version of the mini primes look the same as the MFT primes on there other pages.
I love your work. You’ve got a great vision and I appreciate that you actually create films and demonstrate your techniques… I also love equipment but everything today is more about commercial equipment sales and less about filmmaking techniques and using that equipment. ♥️✌🏼😎
I bought these. Didn't like them. Got impatient with waiting for the 25mm, but the main reason, the 35mm which is equivalent to roughly 50mm, lacked a good depth of field. Once you focused past about 10 feet, everything would just fall into focus. Ordered the full frames to get more depth of field. The one lens that I will buy out of this set will be the 10mm since it's so small and wide and can fit in with the FF ones.
How are you liking the depth of field difference with the FF versions? I kinda had the same perception looking at this video....to get 2 or 3 FF lenses and the S35 10mm...due to the 3d pop and depth of the FF lenses would be better with Komodo. Is that what you're seeing?
@@directedbytp so sorry I just now saw this reply. I have the FF versions currently and like them way more than the minis. TBH the minis are a waste of time. Go for a lens that will give you nice depth. Even just a 24-70 with a metabones will look better.

Thanks for the video! For someone considering to start learning about videography, what focal length would you recommend to try first? I am torn between buying a Fuji X-H2s or the Sony FX30 so I would need to decide which system I can get a cinema lens for first. I already have 3 APS-C and 1 FF E-mount (photo) lenses so the Sony seems like the logical choice. But at the same time, I have 0 cinema lenses so I can start testing a new ecosystem since I wanna get into Fuji.
@@spensersakurai The answer i did not want to get but know its the only correct one :D Honestly what stopped me from getting Meike s35 and similar cine lenses is the fact they look too similar to Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 and you might as well just get that one... FDs on the other hand are something else, same story with Leica R and Olympus Zuiko (among the others). So for that reason I lean to FDs.
Thank you for this but I would maybe advise getting the s35 version of this lens rather than this mini. A s35 35mm for instance can be used in s35 mode or with a speed booster on the Komodo or C70. The image circle above 30mm is fine on the Komodo with a speedbooster even though the Komodo is generally considered to have a wider sensor than most s35. The minimum near focus is probably the deal breaker. A simple comparison in assessing the value of these cinema lenses might be to ask whether they are at least as good as the eponymous Sigma 18-35mm which has insanely close minimum focus?? I’m afraid I don’t think that they are and the look of these is somewhat underwhelming if they are just used to shoot everything in bright sunlight. It’s hard for a lens to shine in those circumstances. Meanwhile I would seriously advise mr s to avoid a gimbal if he can, particularly if it’s likely to be used fairly indiscriminately. I just don’t understand how people can bare to see their framing of their subject wander so much. I think Mr S is a fan of Mr Finchers work and I sure he would find Mr Fs description of steadycam as the pov of a drunk likely be a hard truth to confront particularly if he’s taking on a gimbal as an essential piece of kit any time soon. Good luck with that.
Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but a super 35 lens on a super 35 sensor has the same FOV\perspective as a FF lens on a FF sensor... So these lenses would be perfect for the komodo. Very interested in these if I end up going with a Komodo instead of an URSA, thanks for the video.
I just traded my Meike 35mm FF. I loved the image. Being a single shooter and not that experienced with manual focus I traded for an AF lens. But this set is amazing. I have 2 C70's that I could have some fun with. And the price?? Nice. The images of you sitting were awesome, the images of following (girlfriend/wife) were soft. Seems really hard to pull off walking shots on a gimbal pulling focus. Ooofff that's a test. I would need AF.
seems like repurposed MFT lenses just changed the mount! focal lengths and color makes me say yupp. These were amazing lenses on my P4K so no doubt they'll be a hit on the komodo or any RF camera you put them on!
Sorry but is it just me or does the focus breathing actually look really bad. Especially on the 85mm. At 7:35 the pan hanging in the background on the left almost shifted completely out of the frame. At least half of it completely shifted out of view. I don't have any experience with cinema lenses just yet, but that can't be good, right? Maybe I have the wrong definition of what focus breathing is.
Don’t order from Meike! They scammed me out of $1000 dollars for the 24mm ff lens that never was delivered… I’m leaving this on a lot of their videos so people know.
Have you tought about disputing the charge with your card company or bank? Maybe small claims court? If you've got evidence of payment and no delivery maybe it's time to consult with an attorney.
