    I see a lot of folks saying VST support took too long. IMO it's not that bad. But how it's integrated with how Reason already operates, is icing on the cake. Stability and creativity are the keys here. You now have both. Be grateful. And humble. Sit down. Make beats!

    thanks Reason, been with you since Reason 4, I make all my Television and Movie Score music in reason. Propellerhead changed my life and in many ways saved it, through it I was able to make and meet friends. TY Reason!

    Coming from an "old head" (producing/engineering for 16 years) Vst are my bread and butter... beta testing since day one of the anouncement.. Ive been using Reason since version 5....Nice implementation but def can see room for improvment... Adding vst's just made reason go from "bedroom producer" status to SERIOUS contender for BEST DAW... kudos!!!

    Really well implemented, unique and easily accessible routing possibilities. This approach towards handling VSTs makes Reason one of the best and most creative DAWs. It also allows a great workflow, really well done Propellerhead. Now the only thing missing for me is music notation (like Sibelius). Perhaps in Reason 10 :)

  • @busywl69
    @busywl69 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    RE's makers must love this move. VSTs have such a sonic impact. Wow. Imagine if they did this years ago. Before the
    bitwigs. Making music is something that is becoming something anyone and everyone is doing, more as a hobby than for $$. Reason is making it so simple and stable now to produce.

    Man i have always been a fan of Reason/Propellerhead but a time came when I could not justify just working in Reason/Record and ignoring a world of VSTs out there. I went to Ableton and loved it, then I went to Logic X and loved it too. But seeing this video I realize how much I fucking LOVE the Propellerhead workflow, logic and simplicity. This is seriously making me want to jump ship, get out of everything else and come back home to Reason. But this time with VSTs. Man this is exciting AF!!!!

    Best day ever! Been going back and forth between Ableton and Reason, but I always preferred Reason and worked better and more creatively in it. The only thing that kept bringing me back to Ableton was VSTs and I really like Push. Yeah..I know, Rewire and all..but that eats up a lot of system resources. Now I can say goodbye to Ableton. Not to mention the Pusher software for Push works fantastically in Reason. I'm Reason all the way now...way to go guys!

    This is the greatest news by far this year this just made Propellerhead cream of the crop! What's next in Reason Version 10 (Auto Punch in & out Recording, Metronome sound changing capabilities, Mobile Production for Producers on the go) Hint hint add this to wish list Propellerhead. Excellent Job you guys keep it up!!

    • @ReasonStudios
      @ReasonStudios  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      When it comes to metronome sound changing abilities, you might want to check out Metrotone. It's a Rack Extension in our shop by Robotic Bean which offers alternative metronome sounds. You can choose from the clicks from other DAWs or load your own favorite sample to use as a click. For 9 bucks it's cheaper than a Reason upgrade and would give you the feature right away, if you just add it to your new song template. /ryan

    This is fantastic, I always wanted to use vst but after spending a grip on ableton and that shit would crash all the time I just gave up. Been using them with reason and it hasn't had any issue, so happy about this. =)

  • @ShelLuser
    @ShelLuser 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is obviously good news for Reason users, and I'm happy that they now finally get to enjoy the full extend of what is out there. But I also can't help being cynical about this too. Because basically Propellerhead tries to sell us the same products, _twice_. People who already owned certain commercial VST's had no choice but to buy them again through rack extensions if they wanted to use them with Reason. So now here we are: you get to pay even more (upgrade) so that you can finally use your actual VST's. But at what costs?
    In the long run (looking over the years) I think it's fair to say that this move has turned Reason into one of the most expensive DAW's out there. Even though the approach has always been that as being a somewhat underdog. But one with big pockets it seems ;)

    Is there a place to share features suggestions for Reason ? like some UI improvements, like a vertical line within the sequencer showing the position of the pencil on the timeline when adding notes. A middle mouse click action, like a circle tool selector. And a combination of keys to zoom in-out horizontally, without the need to move the mini-viewer at the bottom. And a better appearance and/or a dockable function for external panels like the tools window, and the on-screen piano keyboard. And a user customisable shortcuts, to replace the Q and W keys on azerty keyboard with A and Z :)

    • @ReasonStudios
      @ReasonStudios  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a lot of different DAWs, including Reason, but your comment actually makes you sound like a Reason fanboy. At the end of the day, you have no idea who disliked the video, it could be someone who uses Reason who just doesnt care for VST's. Calling someone a fanboy for using what ever DAW they feel comfortable with and helps them be their most creative sounds extremely immature. I use several DAWs and they all offer things the other doesnt.

    • @smiley4eal

      Jon Lindsey I respect your comment. I personally use Native Instruments kontakt, but I didn't dislike the video. I have been a Reason user since 2003 and have receive the news about VST's with joy. However, the absence of multi timbrality means that I am unable to use more than just a few VST's per project. When I contacted Propellerhead, they suggested using the "bounce in place" feature, for those big orchestral compositions which require 20 Kontakt VST's, but we all know that this isn't practical at all. I still hope that they solve this as it is furstrating to have a 4ghz, 32 Gb Ram machine and having Reason crash at the slightest whiff of multi VST usage.

    will 9.5 ever add support for using VSTs while in rewire mode? This was one of the main reasons I wanted to upgrade to 9, super bummed that 9.5 doesn't currently support it. If there are no plans to ever support it, why not? I have been looking around a lot of forums and seen many posts of people who say they aren't going to bother to upgrade if VSTs cant be loaded in rewire mode. I think it would definitely help sales.
    I think there are a lot of people out there sitting on old versions of Reason that they never use because they have settled into another DAW. I use Pro Tools for my main DAW and it's going to take a heck of a lot of changes in Reason for me to ever consider switching over to it as my main DAW.
    But I have always missed the flexible MIDI features in Reason and I just don't see why you guys don't fully embrace the market niche of being everybody's #1 supplementary DAW. I mean, if you guys were to support VSTs in rewire mode and, equally as cool, support audio routing directly into Reason from Pro Tools while in rewire mode, then, dang, that would be like a super DAW that no one has ever seen the likes of!
    This video makes me want those two things even more!

      The simplified-technical answer is that ReWire technology and VST host technology shares common resources that makes running VSTs while in ReWire slave mode something we aren't currently supporting. But it's worth noting that it's not unique to us. If Ableton Live, for example, is running as a ReWire slave it also doesn't allow for VSTs for the same technical reason. /ryan

      Hey Ryan, thanks for the reply! Yeah I was bummed when I got the Ableton trial and found that out, but I'd rather use Reason anyway.
      I read somewhere online that Fruity Loops is capable of running in rewire mode and supporting VSTs but I am not sure if that is true. Im on Mac so I cant download a demo, I can only buy it and then run some Mac Beta version they have. Too risky to try out. Anyway I'm really looking for what Reason has to offer anyway. I guess I was just bringing it up because apparently according to someone out there on the internet it is possible to host VSTs when a DAW is running in rewire mode. Again, I am not sure how true this is, I only read it on the internet.
      I actually already upgraded to Reason 9 since it was a pretty good deal going from 7, and I got the 9.5 beta. I definitely will be messing around with it now in standalone mode and making some tracks solely in Reason. Who knows, maybe I'll find the workflow to be as good as Pro Tools. But in the end I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking with Pro Tools for the most part and only using Reason in rewire mode, and then use the standalone version every once in a while if I am trying to do something midi crazy with a VST. Of course I'll end up importing that back into Pro Tools, which is the reason I'm so bummed about the lack of the feature in the first place. Thanks again for the reply! I am just trying get the voice out there of the poeple who prefer to use reason in rewire mode. Hopefully one day you guys will support the VSTs in rewire mode. I noticed you said "aren't currently", which is way better than "are never going to"!
