    Thanks, your video helped me get started with the CH341a kit and I have now unbricked my lenovo motherboard. One thing that was different on mine is that I didn't have to wait for the second light to come on before flashrom would work. I was trying for ages to get that second light to come up and sometimes I got a flicker but it never stayed on. After about 30 minutes of messing around I decided to try flashrom anyway and it worked fine. The second light came on while flashrom was working but then off again when the read / write procedure was done

    6:38 There isn't a dot on the chip, but it's clearly printed on the board, and even if it wasn't, given the other chips orientations and the pin1 position of those, it's clear that the same pin would be pin1.

    • @agriperma
      @agriperma 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even in a worse case scenario, where there is no markings at all, it's a safe bet that, the chip will be oriented in the same order as all the other chips on the board, it's a bad designing practice to have chips oriented in different directions all over the place. imo.

I also used this tool as serial to flash my tplink router through windows. My seagate harddosk recently crashed and ut seems like a bios problem. So can I use it to flash the bios chip on Seagate hard disk bios chip or shall I use it as a serial port and connect it to hard disk serial pins? Will it work? I have a seperate bios file for my hard disk as well. I am also confused about the commands to be used as I am gonna use windows utility to flash. 🙏🙏🙏

    Thanks, I am new to this and extremely paranoid. I tried this before a year or so ago (before I found your video) and tried to read a SOP16 chip with some strange clip thing I got off ebay, and I am pretty sure that bricked the motherboard (don't worry it was a spare). Now I am trying to read random SOIC8 things before reading data off my thinkpad (I don't have a spare motherboard unfortunately), but all of them say Unknown Chip, 0KB. Not sure if I damaged my flasher with the previous shit I did, or if the things I am reading from are just the wrong chips. They all had a dot and 8 pins in total...
    At the very least, I haven't bricked anything yet. Question: Provided I am trying to read 8-pin chips, using 8-pin clips and I insert the clip correctly, it shouldn't be possible for me to brick a device right?

    question does the software come with the tool or do i have to go to a website to get the software separately

      Tool doesn't come with software, for Linux flashrom can be installed using a package manager, for Windows you'll need to track it down from various sketchy 3rd party websites

      so were did you get the program that you used in your video you have it on the front of your desktop in the video @@deftdawg

      @@jayt9665 "sudo apt install flashrom" on Ubuntu ... for windows, you'd have to google it, that's what I did a couple years ago (any links I had are dead now).

    I flash a wr841nd v8 router, and both uboot and the firmware can’t modify its contents for some reason, flashed and reflashed with different firmwares(openwrt and tp link), still, the chip behaves as if it’s write protected...
    Debian 10, flashrom from debian, tried flashrom 1.1 too, ch341a programmer
    Any ideas?

    The same for macOS users, install flashrom with Homebrew. Only 2.0 ports works.

    Great video, I wanna know whether I can program an in circuit pic12f629 microcontroller using the methods shown in this video with pickit 3 and the test clip or I'll have to use the breadboard with the other two tools ? thanks.

    • @deftdawg
      @deftdawg  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      belal mondeo if the controller can program it and you can clip it, then I don't see why you wouldn't be able to.... Just try reading first, if you can read, you should be able to write too.

      @Belalmondeo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've read on some fourm that it can be clipped, what I'm saying is using both the pickit 2/3 and pic programming adapter in addition to the test clip and whether it's possible or not ? thanks a bunch !
