Thanks, this may be something I need very soon. My Asrock X370 Fatal1ty is about dead like its name implies, haha! About 100x tries to get it to boot (swapped CPU, RAM, integrated graphics only/external GPU, button battery, etc). Thankfully if I leave it running it works fine, but its very sketchy when booting back up (got it just now after 2 hours of messing with it) and that's the biggest flaw that I hate about that board is it doesn't have a replaceable BIOS chip and Asrock is a little buggy when it comes to making BIOS in the first place before I get my hands on benching with it. Thankfully I think I have that flash tool already so if it finally goes I'll have to try it (looks like I bought it 3.5 years ago, and warranty is 3 years, go figure, haha!) Thanks Luumi! Happy benching!
@Luumi Those CH341A External Flashing Tools are meant to receive a chips by itself. You don't need any power to the motherboard or the chip. You are also supposed to remove the bios battery "normally". Beside that you have bin very lucky you did not fry the bios chip or the motherboard. Your CH341A has a manufacturing error. It connects 5v to the 3,3v data pins and need some soldering to be used save. Google CH341A 5v fix
And because of that problem there is a newer CH341A programmer model on Aliexpress and other places that has a manual voltage selector switch for 5, 3.3 and/or 1,8V. So, no need for a mod. Job done.

Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) is a series of pins or connectors on the motherboard that are used to connect the different chips and the programmer hardware, Not all motherboards have it.

Thank you for new hope. My motherboard just broke from flashing the bios. (by ASUS Software Update). I'm currently waiting for the device I just ordered from China. I hope I can succeed like you.
I think we have to remove the CMOS battery, and remove the CPU (intel i3 or i5) with fan from mobo first, wear anti static strap or touch a big metal desk or pipe, or cpu metal chassis, wear only cotton clothes, make sure room isn't dry air, ie, humidity above 60%, and then attach the clips to bios, try to read it first! Re read to confirm, this lets you know your clip is properly contacting all 8 pins of bios chip. The ch341a which pkugs into usb on your laptop, supplies power Vcc to the bios chip (its a serial memory chip basically), read the file you obtained in notepad plus and see its not all FF (means your pins not contacted properly to read). Then erase, and program. The 24 pin power connector SHOULD NOT BE CONNECTED to mobo NOR THE CPU POWER (4 PIN OR 8 PIN, 12 VOLT) connector! Otherwise if you don't follow all this, you can lose your processor!
I had a p5e3 deluxe / wifi motherboard and the same problem happened to me, but I didn't have Windows for this, and I executed these commands with flashrom installed in my Linux and my problem was solved(just be aware that whenever you encounter a problem or error at any stage, you should Run the following commands again from the beginning, because if you don't do this, the motherboard will not work despite the correct information in BIOS and you will end up in bootloop!) flashrom -E --programmer ch341a_spi #erase BIOS flashrom -w 'bios file location ' --programmer ch341a_spi #write and verify BIOS flashrom -v 'bios file location ' --programmer ch341a_spi #verify BIOS your bios should work again 😉😉

Hey got a question ... I properly got my ch341a working and I can read the BIOS (or what is left of it, most data reads blank) But I can't for the life of me find the proper normal driver for my motherboard. The Gigabyte website just has some exe that extracts to a few files ... non of which are hex or bin files. The file extension of one of the files end with FC ... which is the version of the motherboard. Is there another website or something where I would be able to download the proper BIOS file? Thanks in advance! (it's a very old motherboard GA-970A UD3)

Question. I have a bunch of chinese motherboards and I cant find the most recent bios for them. Around half of them are causing major issues as a result of the bios being out of date while the other half are fine. Would I be able to copy the bios off 1 of the good boards and flash it to 1 of the bad boards if they are all the same model?
Thanks for the video! I might've just messed up flashing the BIOS on my motherboard. I happened to have the USB programmer already, so I just ordered the required clip. Once it arrives I'll give this a try. Seems like the most important thing (other than getting the clip to contact the IC pins) is to connect the red wire to pin 1 on both the IC and adapter, right?
Please Help. Hi, I have Dell XPS 15 L502X {2nd-Gen i7 processor & windows 10} (purchased in 2012). Few days ago, a blue screen error suddenly appeared during using the laptop (not remember the error code). After that, repeat blue screen errors occurred just after the windows completely load up but Windows was loading in safe mode. Next day when I tried to boot the laptop again, it's fan, leds lights & keyboard backlight etc are working but display is not turning on at all (Not even Dell boot logo is showing). Battery & charger is ok. I have done all basic troubleshooting steps like press power button for 1min without battery & charger. Also connected the laptop with external monitor but no help. Laptop Display is working, i have done Dell Display test by pressing "D-key + power button" and multiple colors are showing but after reboot same black screen issue is happening. During repeatedly trying to boot the laptop, 2 times Dell boot logo was randomly appeared out of 50 trys. And an error code was showed on boot " 00c08270: Real time clock error - check date and time setting" along with continuous beep sound. I pressed F2 to boot in bios and changed date & time settings and then I pressed F1 to boot in windows. Windows was trying to load but a blue screen error occurred " Stop code: DRVER POWER STATE FAIURE" . I thought that it is CMOS batter issue so next day I changed the CMOS battery and installed a new one. I also removed the RAM, Keyboard, HardDisk and cleaned their connectors with soft brush & cloth. But issue is still occuring, Dell boot logo is not appearing again & display is totally black but fan, led lights, keyboard backlight etc is ON. I am not able to access BIOS settings. Is this problem related to BIOS? (but I hadn't installed any bios). So, What can be the issues & how to resolve it ?

Although it’s recommended to match voltages, even with 5V it’s just 1ma current. Never seen anyone fry a chip with 1ma. It would be fine as long as it’s plugged in properly and doesn’t get too hot.
Exactly :) this SPI header is connected directly to BIOS chip. Only need to check with multimeter (I realised that pinouts posted on the internet aren't always true) and connect those pins to programmer. More reliable than the clip. Also beware the voltage on the chip. Mostly spi flash is 1.8V so you need to plug adapter to CH341A programmer.

my pc wont run until i reset motherboard by removing battery, after that it has small chanse to output display, if it does freezes at startup, showing some system info.
Nice video
BTW how to recognise 24 or 25 series of the bios?
its in the cryptic name on the chip i think
@@smilingbandit6900 what kind of cryptic answer is this?
Hello, would this tool work to flash a modified BIOS on a laptop that has a security to prevent modified bios to be flashed with afuwin? Thank you!
How to flash MSI Gtx 1050 BIOS?
i tried doing this but the software to use to flash the bios didn't have the current bios chip model i have
Hello brother what are you soldering at the end of the video? I don't understand
He accidentally broke a small resistor at the beginning so he fixed it with the solder at the end.
How to align the clip onto the BIOS chip?
If the motherboard doesn't appear on the screen and beeps, what's the problem? what is the bios? Biostar A88MQ motherboard 😁
should u take the CMOS battery out?
Yes if they are all the same model. Read the newest bios that works store it and reflash the bad ones. Done.
Did you just downloaded the bios from the Website of the Manufacture?
So, What can be the issues & how to resolve it ?
possibly bios
Please after plugging in the usb to the laptop do you still need a software or any bios to flash it or
Thank you so much. Does this think also work on UEFI. on this motherboard msi 170a gaming m3? And how i will know bios is succesfuly flashed? Thanks for any help.
hi, i run into an issue when clipping to my bios chip. windows and programmer software stops detecting the usb programmer then states usb device malfunctioned. like if it shorted the usb. ive checked pin 1 connections and adapter to usb programmer and they should be correct as every video ive learned from. any ideas. drivers a installed usb recognized. but once i connect to the chip it shuts off the usb. (no pwoer on board no cmos batt)
Can you help me to get BIOS file for specific laptop to flash reset the chip. Since it is showing an error "buffer size is bigger than chip size" as the bios file is of 16 MB whereas the memory of chip is 8Mb.

is this work with asus eufi bios i want to try on my asus x470-f gaming? Asus newer motherboards hawe some strange file format for bios ...its not .rom or .bin its .gap?
Where did you get the ROM file of your bios? I have MSI X99S SLI plus and i can't find the rom file for it
From the manufacturer's website, where you can get all BIOS files and drivers.

Bit late but how do you know what the bios chip on a motherboard?
will this work on msi 550m pro-vdh wifi
Please Help me . I need to Flash files Download links for Laptop and desktop PC.
Neo programmer constantly says IC not responding when i try to read the bios, is there something i am missing?
Why would it ever be necessary to turn on the board ?
If you remove the bios chip and solder it to a breakout board, it works fine, so why would you need to power on the board ?
Because the CH341A may not power the chip.
Where did u get the new bios file??
I need to do this with my thinkpad t15 but I searching for the bios file. on lenovos page there is an exe file you can extract it and then there are 2 files in a folder 1mb~ and 24mb~ I think there these but I don't know if it's correct
Will this work if i have a board with a working BIOS? (Like read the BIOS off the working one and wright it to the corrupt one?)
Easier to just download the bios file from the net and write to a corrupt one.
i have mobo which blank when install ram
please help sir where can i download bios file for acer e5-475-35cl rev e bios
i have a question, is it working if i download a bios bin file and flash the bios chip, any mod is needed?
*What about using the 1.8v adapter? I hear 5v is too much for BIOS chips and can fry them without using 1.8v adapter!*
Although it’s recommended to match voltages, even with 5V it’s just 1ma current. Never seen anyone fry a chip with 1ma. It would be fine as long as it’s plugged in properly and doesn’t get too hot.
Hi Lummi! i have a "dead" z87 oc formula... do you think this method can work with that board?
Yes if the issue is in a corrupted BIOS.
dude, do you realize that this SPI header was for BIOS chip and the clip hassle was unnecessary?
Exactly :) this SPI header is connected directly to BIOS chip. Only need to check with multimeter (I realised that pinouts posted on the internet aren't always true) and connect those pins to programmer. More reliable than the clip. Also beware the voltage on the chip. Mostly spi flash is 1.8V so you need to plug adapter to CH341A programmer.
Could this help remove a bios password from eeprom, as I'm running a Laptop, and clearing CMOS doesn't work.
This clears every bit of information in the bios, so yes

so very good 341A so I have no problems 🙂🙂

Yo ! So my motherboard isn't posting anymore CPU fans spins and shutdown do you think it's a bios problem bios chip is mx25u128 1.8v
