  • Looked at some components of interest when water fording with the Red Beast Wagon. According to the PW O&M manual the truck is capable of 24” of water fording at 10 mph and 30” at a max speed of 5 mph with the factory 33” tires. Hopefully, since my PW has larger tires and suspension it would be slightly better than those ratings. I measured the 2nd alternator lowest point at 36” above the ground, the air intake location seems to be around 54” above the ground. The lowest vent point was at the front axle at 21”. Hopefully that vent is setup as a one way type vent or has some material or membrane that only allows air to pass and not water. The other vents are definitely higher than the front axle vent.

That axle vent tube is supposed to have a GoreTex membrane of sorts to prevent water intrusion.

That is what I have heard and read especially since the manual states it can go as deep as 30” so that vent would definitely be submerged. I did however recently extend it up for good measures and will be posting that video soon. The transfer case and transmission vents are the same type of vents as the front axle, but the rear axle looks like a more traditional one way valve type vent.
