Oh my goodness!!! You delivered so many different ways to help us! You are WONDERFUL! And to all of us practicing - good job! But don't over-do it. Remember: since we've never spoken French before, we've never had to make these sounds our use these muscles. So, it's like going to the GYM for the first time - for your mouth and throat! We'll be sore for a while, but then, we'll be so strong with our French pronunciation! That's why people have accents. Their mouths aren't used to making certain sounds, so they just make the sounds they are used to. All it takes is practice until it feels natural to your muscles... Muscle memory! Bonne a chance a tous!!! 💗 Merci encore

  • @luckybarrel7829

Good for practice and thanks for the lesson, but gotta point out that it's not a vibration of the throat or the chest that produces this sound, but that of just the uvula (back of the mouth). So you need to constrict the back of the mouth by bringing the tongue closer to the uvula and then gently pass air to make the uvula vibrate. You don't need too much air. It's not aggressive at all. This explains all the comments about the sore throat or hoarse voice after practicing this. Once you know where the back of the tongue should be positioned to make the sound (you can make the ga sound to notice how to push back the tongue) and then try slightly different positioning of the tongue until you get the clean French R sound. What helped me was listening to Edith Piaf and trying to imitate her R sound. Eventually I was able to do it. Also, you should know that there are several different Rs based on the placement of the R in the word and this youtube video is excellent for practicing all those kinds of R. My only criticism is regarding the method of production of the sound which is linguistically incorrect.

I find it easier to do when it starts with there's a letter like 'c' or 'g' before the 'r' sound.
For example, "crier" is a lot easier for me to say than "droite" or "bras".

    • @l3ssIZm0re

You're trying too hard. Take the back of your tongue close to the uvula (the ga sound should help you position the tongue correctly) and then gently pass air to make the sound. It shouldn't need an aggressive blowing to make as is mentioned in this video. It's actually super easy, just a little tricky. So if you figure out the trick then you can produce it easily.

@HAYAO LEONE silly you. I wasnt talking about the Arabic "r" . in Arabic there is a sound that is the same as French , in Arabic there are 2 "kh" (like German r) sounds , a soft one and strong one. You need to read my previous message and read it aloud, its hard to explain without showing you the alphabet.

Try to pronounce it like a mixture of the sounds of the letter k, h, and r. When you say robe for example, say /hgkrobb/
