      Thank you for the excellent video with exactly the right amount of detail to describe how to do the work while not wasting any time.
      Anybody have a recommendation for hardware to replace the factory CD cassette player in a 2005 4Runner with the 10 speaker JBL Synthesis (which sounds good!), while adding a rear backup camera, Bluetooth audio, front and rear digital video dash recording, FM radio and hopefully an MP3 player while retaining steering wheel controls? Bonus points if it's an Android based touch screen so I can add the OSMand app for GPS navigation and an app to allow me to view diagnostic data from a Bluetooth OBDII dongle.

    Best 4runner tutorial on TH-cam! Thanks, Provo Beast!
    My 4runner has the JBL and I used the PAC RP4.2-TY11, which was QUITE a pain ...for anyone in the same boat; the blue/white "input" and the blue/white "output" are wired together along with the amp turn-on from the radio harness, there are MANY connectors on the PAC harness that aren't used, the 12 pin connector behind the dash with only 3 wires (red, green & pink) doesn't get used, and, be prepared to get clever finding a spot for the huge rats nest of wires.
    Give a wave to Timpanogos for me, and thanks again!

      Used same kit. Soldered all my wires. Was able to get it all packed in there.

      I don’t quite understand what you mean by the blue and white. So three wires connected?

      I just got the kit and can’t figure that out

      WOW! It's been a while, but if I interpret my own instructions correctly, it's actually 5 wires connected (the 4 blue and whites from the PAC harness AND the amp signal from the radio).
      It's been a long time so I hope this helps; I'm sure once you get your dash apart it'll make a lot more sense.
      GOOD LUCK!

    Thanks for the vid, this just proved that dealers, including my toyota dealers are a bunch of liars... multiple dealer service reps told me it takes multiple hours to replace my bulbs... you just showed how easy it is.
    They also told me the same with the belt replacement and a friend did it in 10 minutes.
    These dealers are a bunch of bs...big time.

    Does anyone have a picture of exactly how that usb / charge mod taps into the cigarette lighter please? The mod had a red and black wire. The cigarette lighter has a harness with a brown wire and a black with white-stripe wire. Once the Barnes plugs in, the cigarette lighter itself has a black wire and a white wire soldered. Thanks for the video! Is there anything special you need to do for the diversity antenna to still work? I've heard some people use an adaptor to plug both antenna wires into one and others say that doesn't do anything. I've heard some people say they have to power up an "antenna power" wire to power an antenna amp. What works best? Thanks!

I want to say to strip the wires from the DC plug and connect them there. But I think you said that it needs to go to the fuse box? Im just generally confused. Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for this video! Very helpful. quick question about the wire harness. The metra wire harness we have for the 05 4runner has a solid blue wire (power antenna) that doesnt have a matching blue wire on the Pioneer (x5800bhs) wire harness. Every else matched up easily but there is a solid blue leftover and a blue/white (remote turn on) on the pioneer headunit harness. Do we connect these two together? Thanks.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The power antenna can either be connected to the blue / white wire or the red ignition wire. Some installers also don't even connect it as today it really isn't needed. Totally up to you.

    Is the Steering Wheel Control cord connector needed for the stereo to work?
    mine has steering wheel control but i didn't use any cords for my Kenwood. It powers up but says 'miswire dc error'. I tried replacing the stereo harness and the Kenwood harness and i checked all the speaker wires and nothing is wrong with anything. I tried resetting the Kenwood about 40 times and nothing seems to work. I'm guessing I need to add the Steering Wheel Control connector like you have. My 4Runner set up is exactly like this video you're doing.

    Need help! Followed your "add a back up camera" and "radio install" videos, very well done and helpful. During the radio install I got to the point of installing the new wire harness I realized the Crux SWRTY-61S Stereo Harness Adapter doesn't match up properly with the 2005 4Runner factory harness. The outgoing radio is stock (JBL part # 86120-35291 no "RDS" printed on radio head )....dang it...can you recommend a different adapter that will match the 4Runner harness? Love your videos, you've taught me how to be comfortable with taking the vehicle apart and adding upgrades I've always wanted; new HU, back up camera, USB ports and will hard wire Garmin GPS, radar detector and dash cam. Thank you for your instructions and any assistance you can give me with the new adapter part number.

      it may be this harness: www.sonicelectronix.com/item_14596_Axxess-TYTO-01.html Use coupon code ProvoBeast to save cash at checkout. I suggest also using their vehicle fit guide to make sure you get the right harness and features your 4runner requires.

    • @SK-pf8qn
      @SK-pf8qn 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You were right on! Thanks for your prompt reply, I purchased the TYTO harness locally and paid more but I couldn't wait due to a road trip in two days - after install no issues with harness fit. One issue still - the back up camera in your video was not available so I chose one similar. The wiring therefore was not exactly as in your video, a single video cord went from camera to HU, and the only other cord was a power cord that I spliced into back up light cluster. Figured the camera would get power when the reverse lights came on. I cannot get the image to come up on the HU - should I run a second wire from the HU to the power/backup camera junction? Any suggestions? Light green parking brake wire is not connected (didn't know where to wire it in) yet it does appear that the bypass it working, a video still plays when car is shifted out of P to R or Drive. Thank you for your assistance combined with your excellent videos I now have the HU I always wanted in time for a sweet road trip. Won't have to untangle myself from the wires that used to run from the triple cig lighter adapter all over the cabin to the electronic devices. You rock!

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure your camera is getting power and ground, either from the reverse light or the red and black wire in the radio harness. Make sure the radio's reverse gear trigger wire is also hooked into that reverse light power, or a source that is hot when in reverse. I would check your connections.

    • @SK-pf8qn
      @SK-pf8qn 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Here's the wrap up. I ran a wire from the connection of the reverse light (which powered the back up camera) to the purple wire in the TYTO harness - as you say in your video. Still couldn't get a picture - took my 4Runner to an audio shop where they told me I just hadn't accessed the correct menu on the HU to turn on the camera. So the connections were correct and now that the camera is turned on in the HU it works perfectly! You guys rock. Secondly, my RDO radio needed the TYTO harness and once installed did not provide for using the steering wheel controls. I purchased an ASWC module from the same audio shop - connected the red, black and white wires - but got no sound and the controls didn't work. During the same visit to audio shop where they corrected the camera issue they rewired the module - I had not wired the green, orange and another color that were in the harness but the instructions didn't mention those wires and their connections. Bottom line: with less than an hour's help from the audio shop you guys were able to coach me through putting in all the items I wanted to make my 4Runner like new. My wife loves being able to watch a DVD while we drive on our road trips. Thank you so much for your videos and for responding to my questions to help me along the way, I hope that my stutter steps can help others too. Thank you!!

    Followed everything, but when I was doing the wiring . I could not find any place Crux SWRTY-61S Wiring Interface to connect the rear speakers to the wires coming out of the unit. Did I get a faulty wiring interface or something? I plugged it and everything works except I have no sound out of rear speakers.

      This setup will work great, especially if you have the factory steering wheel volume controls. If you don't have either steering wheel controls or the factory aux, all you would need for the wiring harness would be the Metra 70-1761 Radio Wiring Harness and the dash kit used in this video.

    Great video on how to do all the work but there's a conflict of size from what you installed and what you're recommending. Both AVH-X2700BS / AVH-X2800BS have 6.2" screens while the AVH-2500NEX has a 6.8" screen size. I'm having a tough time finding a mounting/face that will fit the 6.8" screen, do you have any recommendations?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Screen size is irrelevant as long as the radio has a standard double din chassis. All brand name units with a double din chassis will fit the dash kit, regardless of screen size.

      Usually the JBL Synthesis Logo is on the Door panels or branded on the radio itself. Also, if you have the factory sub, it generally means you have it.

    Where do you plug in the aux from the Crux Box? Where do you plug in the aux from the RCA cables?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Aux is already wired into the Crux harness, you don't need to plug it in. The Red / White RCA male ends will connect into your aftermarket radio's aux input. This retains the factory aux input in your toyota and makes it accessible on your radio's aux setting.

      Provo Beast Audio Installation thanks for uploading the vid, very helpful. Can you explain what you mean by the Motorola antenna? • @AillerySimon
      @AillerySimon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      (please correct me if I'm wrong) Your stock HeadUnit has 2 antenna plugs at the back, which You can see on the video, when the head unit is pulled out. Therefore, you also have two antenna wires, which you can see hanging, wrapped into foam, at 9:15 in the video.
      According to what I've read, the stock HeadUnit is able to determine which antenna has the strongest signal and uses that one (never both at the same time to avoid interferences). As the Pioneer headunits only have one antenna plug at the back, ProvoBeast recommends to use only the bigger antenna wire. I am currently preparing the installation of a Pioneer AVIC-7200-NEX with a backup camera on my 07 Toyota 4runner, that's why I did ask myself the same questions, I don't want to be stuck in the middle of the installation, whereas the dashboard is in pieces.
      =>Thank you sooo much to ProvoBeast for all these videos, I am now pretty confident with the wiring and the installation :)

When I removed my stock radio, I unplugged 4 harnesses from the rear. My 61s harness only had 3 harnesses to plug back in. I reviewed your video and it appears you unplugged 4 also. Your videos are insanely helpful, very much appreciated!!! I installed the backup camera just like you showed; however, when I put the gear in reverse, the deck screen changes to the camera view and its a black screen saying that the image might be reversed and it wont show video from the camera. The light that is apart of the camera is on so there is power going to the camera. Do you have any troubleshooting ideas perhaps??

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are two different power sources. The power to the light for the license plate, and the power to the camera. The power to the camera needs to be either connected to the reverse light power, or a switched source thats on when the key is in.

    Awesome Video Man. Just bought a 4200NEX and excited to get it in. Can you clarify where the aux stereo connectors are and on which harness? and how the y splitter in the back of the stereo keeps factory aux jack location? Is that part of the Idata Maestro integration, as I didn't buy one. If it is the maestro, do you get engine and tpms readouts on the head unit with that? Thx.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We didn't choose the idatalink Maestro, just the Crux harness. If you check the description, we listed all we used there. The Crux harness we used retains the factory aux port in the center console, and the harness has two RCA male jacks from that factory aux. We used the RCA Female to 3.5mm Male adapter to plug into the rear aux input on the back of the new Pioneer. The idatalink Maestro would integrate the data readouts from the vehicle on the screen, if your model year 4runner is compatible.

      No, sounds like you have a blown fuse. Use a multi meter to see if you have constant 12v at the yellow, accessory on red, and check your ground. Wiring the yellow and red together will reset the radio each time you power down the radio. Check the fuse box.
