    Hi Andy
    Thanks for the video
    I am planning to do the same with my vtech
    Can you please advise if I use your idea but instead of fitting antenna directly to camera I would like to extend it to outside of the building and put in in my balcony so I can reach to the end of the garden? I understand the cable can not be too long . Can you please advise where to solder the second cable . I understand one to the old antenna and second to earth ?
    I do not want to break it as its new ;)
    Thanks

    Just bought one cheap off ebay, pivoting aerial broken on monitor, wire aerial inside plastic casing frayed and soon snapped very close to pivot point/hole so had to get it apart. You're right, they are difficult!
    Remove all screws. Beginning at the power input end gently lever with a screwdriver in the joint, working way round I broke one of the tiny moulded catches.

    Great video. Love hacks and things like this. You could make the cheepest drone with 4k camera or something by attaching a small battery to a cheep drone and altering the antennas and stuff to get maximum range. I know alot of people modify controllers for drones to acheve grater distance. And also drop hatches ive seen on the drone. Where you can deliver stuff and drop it at the destination. Again the only issue usualy is range. Regards bro nice vid.

      I agree with Andy, you should be able depending on your riding style be able to get 40Km worth of assist on a single charge. This depends also on temp and terrain, I could average 40 to 50Km in assist 5 with a 1500W setup and a 13Ah battery, but that was my battery maxed out. If you can go for a 20Ah having more than you need means less charging of the battery,.

    • @andykirby
      @andykirby  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There’s usually a bit of wire about an inch long, remove it and solder the center of the coax to the same point. The ground (outer coax) goes to a ground point on the PCB. Usually there is nearby and it looks like a solid plate on the PCB, all PCBs have areas on the board which are grounds.

    • @andykirby
      @andykirby  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, thinking about this more it could make it safer because you could route the point of radiation far away from your little one by using a run of low loss feeder, the antenna could be in another room.

    • @Hunter_Bidens_Crackpipe_
      @Hunter_Bidens_Crackpipe_ 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will be pumping more power to the antenna if the signal is weak. With a big antenna you will be good with less power.

    • @MindMeetMaker
      @MindMeetMaker 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Having a high gain antenna is good but careful it will be emitting more mw of power that could interfere with wifi, I second using a yagi antenna or parabolic antenna on the receiver to gain the collected signal. But fun to play with, bit worrying they are sold for baby monitoring as any 2.4ghz rx in range can view the image I had a reversing wireless camera on my car that had a screen in the rearview mirror and I would have random images show on it when I passed though towns and thought that they should be better secured.

      Range can depend on a lot of things: bike+rider weight, terrain, average speed. 25 miles doesn’t sound too bad for a 17Ah battery. If it’s getting hot though then it might not be powerful enough.

    It seems to me that the instinct of the mother begins to work towards the child. It is difficult to explain, as far as I know, scientists could not explain this phenomenon. Instincts are nice, but they will not always be able to warn that the baby is not okay. I would still recommend using a baby monitor, for example, with access to a phone or tablet. So mommies will always know that everything is fine with the child and he is sleeping sweetly.

    This is actually quite helpful. I just bought a cctv setup with 4 wireless cameras from Ebay and wasn't expecting much tbh. But it's actually very good, really happy with it. The only thing is the range of the cameras which I'm planning to improve in the same way as you did. And also it's really messing with my home internet wifi. It's really quite annoying! I'm planning to move the received box to the loft and maybe play around with the wifi channels. My wifi is 2.4ghz and I have a repeater as well. I'm suspecting the cctv is also 2.4ghz. Any advice?

    • @andykirby
      @andykirby  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds cool, do you have a link? It’s not good it’s messing with your WiFi though, I suspect it’s taking a massive chunk of the 2.4GHz band to run all the cameras. Do they specify the power output in the manual? Or maybe there’s a way to move channels. With a lot of 2.4GHz stuff around the band can get overloaded that’s why they started using 5Ghz but it doesn’t penetrate walls as well (and 2.4 is pretty bad to start with)

    • @vitaliyyavtukhovskyi5947

      Yeah, 4 full HD cameras streaming wirelessly probably take a lot of wifi bandwidth. It's clever enough though to detect what channels are not as busy and automatically selects them... Walls is exactly the reason why I'm using a 2.4 wifi for the internet at the moment. Ideally I'd like to improve the cctv camera signals too. Do you recon I should upgrade the camera's wifi antenna or the receiver's antenna instead?

    • @andykirby
      @andykirby  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks like they all have external antennas, can you just unscrew them? It might be worth using directional panel antennas on the cameras so you can focus a beam of signal from the camera directly to the receiver, and then have the receiver away from your home network so you are effectively limiting the RF everywhere other than where it should be going. It might be tricky to get it all lined up but that’s what I would do. You could keep the omnidirectional antennas on the receiver or connect up an omnidirectional outdoor antenna, but keep the run of coax below a 5 meters as you lose a lot at 2.4GHz.
