Imagine something mass produced like this which is fully watertight and has a solar panel built in. it would be so easy to throw something this small on top of buildings, hang in trees, etc
A little late to the party, I just got mine the other day. To get it in DFU mode, you hold the button and disconnect the magnetic cable twice while continuing to hold the button. You know it worked by the solid green LED.
The design of this is really thoughtful. I think it would be nice if they had made it Qi compatible for wireless charging so we wouldn’t need a weird cable just for it.
One month later… I actually own one now. I own a number of Meshtastic devices and I’m actively involved in the NCMesh community. This is now my everyday carry node. The bar has been raised. What a really thoughtful design, and of such quality construction. It’s funny… the hardware has capabilities that the software hasn’t caught up to yet. The weird cable… I understand the need for now. Aside from charging, this offers a serial connection for flashing or managing the node from a computer without compromising the weather tight sealed case by adding a USB C port. Seeed Studio changed the standard here. It’ll be interesting to watch other manufacturers respond with new designs inspired by this amazing form factor. Also… surprise! The antenna is actually really good. The main compromise with this design is battery life. You can maybe squeak 48 hour or so out of it. It’s probably best to top it off once a day.
very similar to T1000-A, hope they ever release a "folded" one, (battery on top of pcb), it would be the perfect pet tracker. Current "creditcard" size is slightly too wide for my cats.
This looks very cool! I bought a couple of WisNode TrackIt modules and they're pretty much junk. GPS can be off by as much as a mile and the batteries only last about a day. They were also $60 USD, instead of $40.
All this stuff looks very exciting in the beginning but with the amount of stuff coming out, always adding "*the next new thing" it just overwhelms the people who are willing in the first place to join and expand the network and make it actually fun, usable and reliable. But I guess that is the cost of early tech plus all the eWaste that generates for landfill expense.
Would be great if you gave a one or two line explainers for each video that gives newbies a bit of understanding on what were looking at 😂 I joined a few years back for your wind turbine and ebike vids, been causually watching a few of your radio vids but it is a pretty jargon heavy. would like a bit of an explainer
I would prefer tiny Torx screws so that internal access would allow swapping the battery once it eventually dies, even if it meant a slight depth increase.
Great share there Andy! Out of stock already 😂 Have subscribed in order to get a notify when back in stock.Of course, they could be stocked in the UK Meshtastic shop!!! 😉
In order to use this device to send texts via Meshtastic, is there any other device required as well (other than a phone) ? Thanks, I'm trying to wrap my old brain around all this before I spend
What is everyone's level of concern regarding the FCC's notion to sell the underlying radio spectrum that meshtastic functions on? I realize that the whole world isn't under the FCC's thumb but this could decimate meshtastic use in the US, which has really gotten popular in some areas. I mentioned it on my local 2m net but they didn't seem to care...(edit) which I thought was odd because the area is a meshtastic "hotspot" pun possibly intended :)
Andy, I have the DFU mode intermittent issue usually with Lilygo devices. It's probably not you or your puter. Try swearing at it and that usually makes it come around.
A dozen phone models charge via USB-C and are waterproof. I wish they would at least allow it as an option in addition to the magnetic charging. Or just normal universal wireless charging instead. Proprietary charging is awful. Great form factor though
Be careful - the quality is NOT what you think. I ordered two, one arrived fine, the other was DOA. Just try and reach support or have it returned... good luck. So it's a crap shoot it you get what they promise.
Why do cel Phone manufactures do not build in a off the grid/Service Gps receiver in their phones?. I would gladly pay an extra $100 for it. Of course there are plenty handheld GPS out there, BUT?
Could you open it ? Would like to see how its inside is without battery and case so I know the pcb dimensions to stick it to the back of a smartphone with a usb cable to "embed" the meshtastic with the smartphone somehow :) (and then later print a jacket for it for protection. Just to see how smooth and slim a meshtastic can be added to the back of a smartphone.
And this is why we shouldn't have gotten rid of card slots. Same with full-size SD card slots. One for much larger storage options but hopefully one day we will see Lora devices that size. Would be great to have it powered by a small capacitor to receive msgs and then properly powered once the laptop is awake. Maybe a special client app to pass on GPS info.
I've been playing with this for a little bit now. The furthest I've gotten out of it so far has been 10.6 miles. It has definitely been an interesting device.
I have one of these, its useless - I have the non-meshastic one, and its useless as a tracker. It simply cannot track in any useful way, unless you're fortunate enough to live in a city absolutely littered with lorawan gateways. And forget asset tracking in rural areas. It's meant to also uplink all the historic locations once it does connect to a gateway - it doesn't. Don't waste your money, unless you just want to play and not actually track anything.
The T1000-E official support was added as a part of the latest 2.4.1 alpha, so that is why the flash button was not available on the 2.4.0 beta.
Excellent, thanks for the heads up 👍🏻

Yeah I want to see more solar panels. Even small ones would make a difference.
We use it overhere, works great, stable and good reception, it slips in your coat or trousers with ease. Use it the most now.

I wouldn't say it creates ewaste. Old devices still work and can find redundant uses as routers and sensors.
Reminds me of my old Bt pager. Good form factor, assume it will be iOS/android app driven by BLE?
I pre-ordered one of these back in early July and I look forward to trying it out - it looks pretty great!
Next want one with small Eink screen
10:20 - DO IT !!!!! CRACK IT OPEN !!!! 😂😂😂
Slap a small e-ink display and a small flat keyboard on it, and i'll be a veeeeery compelling option.
Yeah it's a good size. I like the idea of a TDeck but it's not quite what I want.
Also need USB C and/or Qi charging.

Does this device support the USA 900MHz band? I couldn't find anything on the webpage as to which band(s) it supports.

Just don't lose the cord 😂
Every time I try to message it just says "Max Retransmission Reached".
Cool, so the started sending those out? Mine was pre-ordered a few weeks ago.
Yes, we can do a few things with that user button and custom firmware.
Not sure if the main shipments are going out yet, hope so. It would be nice to hear more about the button features 👍🏻

My only issue is why doesn't it have USB C or Qi charging. Ideally both. C can be water proof.
Are there translucent ones like in the video, or only white?
Hi there, all SenseCAP T1000-E will be shipped out in the matt black transparent enclosure. :)
Can i use this in Europe?

Did your dev board brick? Mine did. I had to get them to send me a new bootloader. Lmk if you need it.
Oh dear, no mines OK but it only puts out like 1mW when it transmits 🤷🏻♂️
2.4.0 doesn't seem to support this yet officially. if you select the latest alpha build, the flash button works.

Noice!!!

Make a clip on solar panel to keep it charged and sell it for $50 and they will sell by the millions.
Proprietary charging is a hard pass unfortunately, adding usbc would be a more attractive deal for this.
Looks like the same flashing method as T-Echo from LillyGo
Now that LoRa radio is bas a**!
Like the Sensecap helium network tracker (That did not work)
I spoke to someone who had one and said it worked great.
In my opinion they should have added the reset button
Thanks for the input. Will convey it to our dev team!
Actually according to our team, you can modify the code to define the reset button as there is a button on the SenseCAP T1000-E tracker.
Nice 😊😊
how long can this run? does this have gps?
Yes it does
IP69??!! 🙂 Freudian slip?
Nice.
IP65 rated.

Just holding the device in the camera is not really helpful, wish you would have done testing, especially on the range.
