      Maybe I got mine too late or didn't know what software to use but I couldn't get gta and max payne to work on here other that mapping the controller on max payne which made the camera control very clunky. But that was just my experience. Couldn't really get emulators working either. It's built very well though. If you know what you're doing with software most definitely test it out

      He just means that the video game system maker doesn't have the rights to the video games that they're preloading on the system yet they are making money directly because those games are preloaded on the system. if you don't own the rights to super Mario Bros and you make a system and you put super Mario Bros on the system and then sell ten thousand of those systems and Nintendo finds out they can sue you for profiting off of there property. Although it's a lot more convenient for me and probably a lot more profitable for them if the games are already on the system. Now it's a lot less risky if they sell the same thing but without games or unlicenced materials in it. But with risk sometimes goes profit.

      Not to mention that the entire reason this works is because buying a copyrighted material also buys the right to make a backup copy of it.
      So even if you dont currently own an original, you can still own a backup copy and use it. Let them prove you never owned a particular game.

    Out of all these devices, the JXD Singularity remains my all time favorite. Huge screen, PlayStation quality full analog sticks, screen's not on a hinge so it can't come off like it did on my GPD XD Plus lmao

      Eh, the PSP, Vita, and XD+ all have advantages and disadvantages. There are reasons to go with any of the 3, just depends on what you want

    • @txcforever
      @txcforever 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Of course. The Vita and the PSP are missing a few buttons to fully emulate a PS1 game that used the entirety of a Dual Shock controller. The PSP lacks in horsepower even though you can get one for the price of a couple of coffees at Starbucks. And the XD+ even though it seems like the right choice, the MediaTek chip and the Android OS, that can get really bloated after a while, could make the whole experience not as good as you would expect from a 2017-18 machine.

    I got the first version some years back, but I flashed the ROM on mine and installed Retroarch on it. Definitely improved the thing, and no more sketchy unknown apps on it.
    It was decent. It struggled emulating PSX and N64, but my intention was to play 8 and 16 bit stuff on it anyway. Got a good couple of years of use out of it. Unfortunately the micro USB port on the back suddenly stopped working and there was no way to charge it anymore.

    GTA San Andreas mobile has had issues on almost every smartphone, tablet and Android gaming device since it was released, it's not just the GPD XD Plus. Unlike GTA III and Vice City, Rockstar seemed to have dropped the ball when it came to porting San Andreas to iOS and Android, it's so horribly optimized.

    In order for games to run well over HDMI, you have to plug in the console into HDMI before you power it on. This fixed the issue on my non-Plus model. Also, the one I bought was really well built, and didn't have any issues with sticky buttons or corrupted graphics. It's a shame that the manufacturing quality looks like it's been dropped, especially because the price has been raised compared to the $170 the non-Plus sold for.

    I own the original GPD XD
    -Yes, it comes pre installed with games and happychick... But you can uninstall everything and get the device running like a regular android device.
    -I had a problem with a few select games on PSP. It was just frame drops that made the game unplayable.
    -About 60% of Dreamcast games won't run. The ones that can have graphical glitches and that's it. Framerate is fine.
    -Everything runs fine on the HDMI output, same as it would on the GPD XD itself... Except for Sega Saturn which lags on HDMI a lot.

    "not full HD but close enough" after you said it was HD, 1280x720 is literally the definition of HD and 1920x1080 is the definition of full HD, so you can just say it's HD, don't need to say that it's close enough to full HD, it is it's own thing

    • @Bro-cx2jc
      @Bro-cx2jc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He probably said that because of how some things run more optimally at 720p and thus 1080p wasn't always an option. For me, 720p at 60Hz is always necessary because my TV only goes up to 1080i, and my VGA converter blocks anything above 720p. Having only one option sure makes selection ten times easier, especially when it works perfectly, and for TVs that will clip parts of the edges off the screen in HDMI, converting it to VGA forces the proper aspect ratio which makes it a total win.

  • @Gungho73
    @Gungho73 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The thing im wondering about, regarding slowdown/speedups like those shown in the PS1 games during emulation, is the possibility that the cpu/gpu clock perhaps is either having a hardware or software side glitch that doesn't lock it down to a specific performance, even if that performance is under or over what is required. Once in awhile when you see tech like this that should have the capacity to perform near or above regular expectations of other devices, you'll find that it either runs below its specific clock or it works unclocked and that's what leads to the odd issues. We've seen in the past games offering similar options, such as unlocking the framerate in a game locked at 30 to 60 FPS, for the actual user can dramatically damage the playing experience/quality. It also just could be that the device is not optimized, and that those additional emulators dont take into account its specific tech range which is entirely possible.

  • @2Scribble
    @2Scribble 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    These units tend to be built in bulk - but with no standard mechanism or quality control - meaning you'll get a lot of them fast but you'll have HUGE variance between which one works and which one doesn't.
    It's like several other knockoff systems will have different cases and armor on them - despite, ostensibly, being the 'same' unit.
    The cases - and guts - are bought and assembled in bulk - on the cheap - and crammed together as quickly as possible.

I heard it can run games as advance as Gamecube isos or something, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it, or someone else who can give it a just as honest look into it if it's too expensive for you.

    The d-pad seems to be a normal issue with GPD products, but I wouldn't expect (if you buy this) the face buttons to get stuck, I think it's situational. (coming from a GPD product user.) :D

    That's really interesting that the A button sticks because the high end controller that razor came out with to compete with the Xbox elite has the exact same problem, or at least mine did/does. After less than a week of moderate use it began sticking but I could either still get a click out of it while depressed or I could get it to pop back out with some, let's say, were encouragement. But now it's just perma-jammed. Luckily the controller had/has more than enough spare buttons do remapping isn't an issue but it is an issue that anything made today would have qc or just poor manufacturing problems because I know for a fact that even for cheap you can still get a controller or controller hybrid type thing made that will never have any issues when it comes to fit and finish of the hardware.

    Well the face buttons would totally mess with me. ABXY in the DC/Xbox layout with the SFC colors (and for some reason the X and Y buttons colors are swapped so thats more confusion on my part) I do like that the PS symbols are also there. Looks like a cool little device outside of the face button oddities. (And I already mess up the facebuttons when swapping between Nintendo and Xbox lol)

    We really need a proper Android device manufacturer to put out a device like this based on an existing tablet or phone that aren't using rooted versions of Android loaded up with dodgy Chinese software. I think the market for something like that definitely exists at the right price point.

    The GPD XD Plus is the epitome of Chinese tech. It's a great idea, and most units are good, but the QA from GPD is pretty poor. Failure rates among their devices is somewhat high (>15% from what I can tell), so you'll be running a risk when you purchase one of these.
    That said, this is one of the better emulation devices simply because of the built-in buttons, ease of use, and open operating system. Depending on what kinds of games you want to play, this or a PS Vita are the go-tos for portable emulators right now. The PS Vita is a better bet (better build quality, a bit cheaper on eBay, etc.), but they're getting harder to come by and prices are sure to go up. On top of that, getting a Sony Memory stick is stupid expensive compared to a microSD card, so storage will be a problem.

      No, your not robbing a family, your robbing people who put effort and lots of time and money into a product so it could *Sell* not be pirated.
      If you look at gameplay trailers, then you can easily determine if it's a bad product. I don't buy games if they look bad and the gameplay is.
      Hate the company running the game such as EA? Just boycott it. That'll easily hurt it as much as pirating. There are litterally better games out there.

There are SO MANY other handheld devices and phones that can emulate games up to the SNES era (Hacked Vitas, 3DS, other phones). I take mine almost everywhere. Not great for new AAA games, but it runs classic systems like a dream. And games with touch controls you can assign physical buttons to regions of the screen. It's really cool. Only things that bug me about it are that there is no reactive R and L triggers. They just click. So racing games and things that's require precision are hard to play on it. Also there is a built in issue with the firmware that messes up the physical controls inside RetroArch (the bundled emulator) it makes the controls completely non responsive. You fix it by assigning exit and menu to the R3 and L3 in the interface. And happychick is garbage. Don't use it.

    Shame you didn't enjoy this thing very much. Mine seems like a 2.0 version compared to yours; most games run flawlessly, and I was surprised to see all the problems yours had. This device is the first time I've ever been able to play Baldi's Basics on a TV with a controller (Android red and black Bluetooth controller that looks like PlayStation). To me, that's the best way :) I hate mouse / keyboard combo games, and playing mobile with touchscreen options was just terrible for me.
    I find myself more often using this as a media device than a gaming device however. I most often use a bluetooth controller because the GPD XD Plus feels a bit heavy in my hands when playing with it directly, and the controller itself has some lag because it's bluetooth, so I can't really enjoy fast paced games. I do have a few console games I enjoy returning to time and again, like Chrono Trigger, Spider Man 2000 (Nintendo 64), and Armored Core 3 / Silent Line, and they seem to run nearly perfectly, albeit with minor graphical defects on the more processor-intensive games.

      @@v31003 I'll go ahead and give you a warning update here -- although mine came with a strong, sturdy screen hinge, over time it's deteriorated rather quickly and loosened the lock. Just today when I took it off charging, I found that the hinge rolled a lot smoother now, as if there was less pressure, and it turned out to be because a big crack had appeared in the right slot. Since it was breaking the same way my laptop screen did once a few months ago, I just said screw it and ripped the screen off the GPD XD Plus.
      It's still functional this way though, and if you want to play games on your TV it'll be good for that. I'm thinking more along the lines of using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse though, to make it like a mini computer.
      I don't know if they all do this eventually, but it's a thing to keep in mind.
