- First time ever bass fishing in California! While staying in Palm Springs, I learned the hard way that there's literally no fishable bodies of water in the dry desert, so I traveled a short distance to a nearby city to fish a private pond that one of my subs has access to. I heard the pond is loaded with quality fish, AND it's catch & release only, but with the recent algae bloom and full moon, the fishing turned out to be quite tricky...

Floating Smithwick Rattlin' Rogue is a great floating jerkbait. Chrome w/ orange belly is best

IMO floating jerkbaits and jerkbaits in general are criminally underrated. Most people only use them in colder water but I can assure you they work all year long. I actually fish them the most in the middle of the summer in ho water with great success. Since you can vary your retrieve so many different ways it makes them incredibly versatile.
How come 1rod have not been posting recently, its spring time, the prime time for fishing! I wished he would post 3 time a week like he used too.Also he just hit 500k, two vids ago, and still he had not said thank you or anything, like thats a BIG milestone!

1Rod1ReelFishing dude you have to go to Catalina. It is a wonderful place that has not just fishing, but also viewing wildlife. Check out the buffalo on the island and the foxes. Also, if you go to Catalina, I would recommend Cabrillo Mole. There are a lot of surfperch, opaleye, calicoes, and many other fish, including the occasional yellowtail. Use squid strips! If you are fishing off of a boat, then you will have to go pretty shallow, maybe 20-30 feet. I've been on charters where I can look down and see around 30 half moon (blue perch) devouring my squid strip. Best of luck!

@10:25 i like when they do that. man when you were about to switch bait after the first catch i was like noooooo. dude part of the trick is learning what they will hit that day and then slay them on it. good thing you stuck with it. i was out monday in high winds the only cove by me had around 6-8 guys in it so i did my own thing searching hitting deeper water and a secondary very small cove. didnt land any but then hit the main bigger cove once people cleared up and left a perfect open spot in the back of it. i went in there did a suspending jerk and nailed one that had a couple bed sores on it in shallow water by a bush that was out there. . gl out there man. nice vid and fish.

this year ive been out there 3 times and been skunked all 3 times but i was throwing a fluke and some chicken liver (chicken liver has pulled out some monsters before )

I don't live in palm springs I visited and I just don't want people thinking there's no fish.
I live there as well and let's just say there's some golf courses in there with average of 8 pound bass
I have caught a Flathead, bream, sting ray, grunter, puffer fish, crabs, eel, shark, jewfish, snapper, mangrove jack, flounder, perch, rock fish and whitings but never seen a bass or pike or a snook
2 videos in a month. One already on Leo's previously. Common man, step up the footage. Didn't like how the googan split happened, and took your side in a whole lot aspects as to$$$$. But you gotta keep us wanting more. And that department with your videos has went.

1 rod Cali desert sw fishing is tough, come down more south to the Colorado, Coachella, all American River or the Highline. it's hard to find the fish, alot of hit or miss and we'll when you do its either the senko or live minnows that will work. Bro you were so close to my area, wish I would known sooner.

Mike, for light baits, try out a Daiwa Tatula TWS baitcasting reel. I switched over last year and that TWS is the real deal!
Hey 1rod! Great video- I used to fish that pond in East highland all the time. Heavily pressured. You killed it, can be a tough spot to land a fish. Didn't used to have as many weeds. Tight lines!
