    CAT Not ready? EGR Not ready?
    Driving over 200 miles did NOT work! Here is what worked: in morning warm up car for ten minutes. Rev car to 2000 for two minutes. Drive at 50 MPH for ten minutes. No cruise control no AC. Then let go of accelerator. Don’t step on the break. Let car slow down as much as possible on its own. To check if car is ready for smog use code reader or turn car on (two clicks) not engine and look at Ck engine icon: if it stays on then go away you are good. If it blinks then your car is not ready for smog Ck. Hope this helps. I have been killing myself to solve the issue.

    Let me make sure I got this: there is a computer, a piece of paper with instructions, another guy with timer, and the vehicle is moving while still. Got it.

    I use the emergency brake also. but plan the route on the streets and freeways when there is no traffic.

      The streets are tough I took a customer car home and did it at mid night lol you got do what you have to do sometimes

      I don’t know if you received my last reply but if you are losing the memory from the monitors I would check voltage and grounds to the computer especially the KAM terminal if that’s good you may have a PCM issue

    Unplug all your 02 and h02 sensors at the electrical plug connection then start engine and let it idle until the check engine light comes back on. Then shut the engine off and plug all your 02 sensors back up. Then disconnect ground on battery and wait 15 minutes then reconnect battery (even if you have a scanner to erase with still do this) Then start the car and drive it and the 02s will then been read by the ECM and make ready. An ECM is nothing but a transistor box like a 1965 hand held radio and areas of the feed become dormant

      Dealerships and many service shops would hate me for giving out this information. When you disconnect the battery ground and let it sat then reconnect it surges the entirety of the ECM box. So youre making it start over in order to fully function. Like taking the battery out of a cell phone to make it start over. Erasing with a scanner doesn't erase everything

      would you do the same to clear the emissions monitors? Have incomplete, o2 sensor, evaporative sys, and Catalyst coming back incomplete. I wonder if swapping out the o2 sensor will fix all three monitors?

      Making the ready IM monitors incomplete again is necessary if some readys will not happen. People don't understand that ECMs get dormant areas after time and using only the software for the engine. Such as why would an 02 sensor show not ready or a cat not ready but then not produce an error code in the DTC? So if there is no DTC for monitors that don't show ready then this means the parts are GOOD but the transistor area in the ECM is dormant. Swapping out 02 sensors is nothing but wasting time. Heres a rule of fact.. Anytime a part does not cause a DTC code it means the part is GOOD so the only other fault would be the ready monitor simply not reading because it isn't active. IM goes into inactive mode once a drive cycle is complete as to where DTC stays active due to always needing to be active for your timing for your engine. To change any part whether ot be a cat or evaporator system part or 02 is a waste of effort and money UNLESS a DTC code occurred. If ready monitors in your IM wont set its because of an improper drive cycle by the driver or the ECM going into IM dormant mode. And to get one ready monitor to set YES all others that say ready have to be erased in order to start over IF one or two wont set at ready

      If you find the enable criteria to run a trip it may help you. Look in a chilton manual or all data

    I'm getting a blinking Monitor icon, "EV", yellow LED indicator light, No DTC's presently stored in code reader's memory. Also, NO Engine light is presently showing on dashboard. I'm not a 100 mile guy at age 75, so it takes me a while to travel around town (don't travel) until a cycle is reached. It's been since May when a part was changed and codes cleared.

      Why would a smog station “test only” perform a drive cycle - also the customer driving the car can complete it most of the time.

      @@celiaferreira2028 yes you are correct it’s hard to perform drive cycle in traffic but I never seen a shop do it as a routine maintenance.

    Got a 99 camaro Ls1 with a EGR not ready. Drove it from Bakersfield to Los Angeles and still not ready. Tried to do a couple drive cycles and nothing. Took it to a shop and they have had the car for 3 weeks and still nothing.

      @natedavis5574 just passed smog the other day. I didn't know that you are allowed 1 not ready monitor for a 1999, and the repair shop did not know that either and there was no check engine light.

    What if the temperature is super low next to the other catalytic converter.. .? Is it the 02 sensor or a cat no rattle coming from the cat

      Is it really hot at the exhaust manifold and cold near the cat that could be a issue how is the temperature on the other end of the cat “output side”

    Nate can you recommend someone in LA or the valley that can do this for me , or will any smog & repair shop be able to do it? Failed the o2 readiness at an inspection only place. Tried a bunch of drive cycles myself but it is hard to complete all the steps correctly. Found a place in Huntington Beach that offers a drive cycle service but that is a bit far. Thanks

      @@natedavis5574 A 2013 Nissan Juke. Failed smog because the O2 monitor was incomplete. The smog guy ( inspection only shop) told me to drive it for an hour at 60mph and it should be good to bring back. I got an OBD device and went on a couple long drives to try complete the drive cycle but it doesn’t seem to do the trick. I’ll probably take it out on the holiday and more precisely follow the Nissan Drive Cycle procedure I found online (Although it is for a 370Z).
      Was wondering if you knew any smog shops that can do the drive cycle on the dyno like your video was showing? It seems much more precise, efficient and safe .

    What are the actual instructions to get the oxygen sensor monitors to get ready? I have 7 monitors ready, except for the o2 sensor monitors. I drive a 2015 Dodge Challenger, any help is highly appreciated.

      @@natedavis5574 finally got my o2 sensor monitors to set. On the freeway going steady at 65mph decelerate to 55mph by letting the foot off the gas, and aggressively accelerating back up to 65mph. Repeated that back to back 5 times in a row, I then plugged in my obd2 scanner and all monitors were finally OK.

    Evap won't clear shows inc on readiness with no check engine light. 2003 Ford F250 truck. Star station said can't pass it because it will ding their rating??? How can I clear the evap with drive cycle?

      The easiest way is Perform evaporate system test with scanner..other method perform evaporate system performance test manually

      Sometimes if the car is giving me a hard time I’ll try clearing all the codes. Make sure there are no pending codes before trying a drive cycle and get the correct procedure

      can do it yourself its available online, they are doing the GM drive cycle, each car is different and the number of drive cycles may vary.

    The 02 sensor on a 08 Silverado wont coplete and it does have a pending code for evap leak, can that be a reson for the monitor not complete.

      Sorry this didn't help you, but it was only showing an example of a drive cycle. Most people think if they just drive the vehicle that's go enough to complete the monitors and in some cases it's not.

    Is there a place like yours in las vegas? I'm having a problem getting my 04 mustang to conclude a drive cycle (due to having a A/C compressor and a battery change this year) .. I'm totally stressing this nobody in vegas will do a drive cycle and i can't do it myself driving.. because the criteria require miles of empty roads which we don't have

      @@prettybaby80 That's the thing. No shops perform this type of service. This TH-cam video is from a School (A.F. Occupational Center). You have to check with BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) & find a Referee center school. And even then, they don't want to perform this service because they say it ruins their Dynamometer - which is what is demonstrated in this video. I hate the state of California. Vehicles who's readiness monitors are hard to set should be exempt from Smog checks Period!
