Emissions tests really shows that it’s expensive af to be poor. Like a person who drives with a bad cat system probably does it because they can’t afford to hash out a 2k repair on a car that’s most likely a clunker and used to get them to work

Emissions tests are a scam. All cars emit emissions, so why are some cars in certain geographic areas exempted? Example: New York metro area requires an emissions test but the further suburbs do not require emissions test. However, the drivers in those exempted areas work in NYC and drive to NYC 5 days a week but they only require a safety inspection. Make that make sense.

Smog test are really stressful on upkeep made me find a way everytime i buy a new car, this made situations hard but seems TH-cam and Channel's like Stray Administration represent a stress free civilization making these fast for our purpose...💯

Thank you for your integrity as I've read a lot of the comments and instead of advising people to commit illegal actions or cut corners; you advise them to do what is necessary. Too often I see videos like this where the "mechanic" tells people how to cheat the system instead of the right thing. So I'm glad to see someone not willing to compromise their integrity in order to keep people happy. I run my construction business the same way. If a customer asks me to not pull permits, or to cut corners, they can find someone else. I don't play those games cuz it's my name on the line. Integrity will always pay off better than the fines one will pay by cheating the system.
Yup also with emission it’s for out planet 🌎 nothing else matters if car needs fixing fix it. Some times repair is cheaper than cheating the system
@@RBTheMechanic you should go explain that to the channel called online mechanic tips. I just came from one of his videos calling him out for cheating the system by clearing the codes which is a form of tampering deemed illegal on the federal level by the EPA. I even gave him a link, and he just kept deleting it while advising people that what he was doing wasn't illegal. By clearing the code, knowing that his catalytic converter had failed. He was knowingly and with intent using a device to mask a non-functioning component required for emissions testing. According to the EPA this is tampering and illegal because he had pre-existing knowledge that that part was a failure and was using a device to hide it. Then literally advising his whole channel on performing this illegal action. Then when I called him out on it, all he did was respond with a bunch of tough guy nonsense. So I went and got the link with the information showing him that it is illegal and replied to that comment with the link so that other people might be able to click on it and understand that this is illegal. Three times I sent that reply, all three times he deleted the reply yet kept up his tough guy comment so he can look like he won the argument. He doesn't care about our planet or the people that could potentially be breaking the law because of him

He pulled the tough guy attempt and so since it wasn't getting through I just reported his video for illegal action and let him know that if he felt some kind of way about it that my company takes tough guy complaints 7 days a week in the back for MANUAL COMPLAINT RESOLUTIONS. Thanks for your video once again, I though there was something else wrong with my car after driving it 88 miles after repair, I had to drive it for over 150 miles in order to have it ready for emission

2002 toyota corolla failed smog. I changed air filter, cleaned maf sensor, cleaned throttle body, changed spark plugs, change oil, ran seafoam cleaner in the gas, and it passed.

Thanks for the vid! Drive cycle is the solution. Look up your car for specific dry cycle instructions. My 2001 Honda Accord LX 2.3L F23A4 ULEV engine will blink the engine light 5 times (then stops and turns off) when the car is turned on *BUT NOT* started to let me know that the emission system is NOT ready.

The results of my smog on new cars gets me all the time, I'm an average working citizen and don't thnk expensive helps me in anyway possible, it's why i stick to working with Stray Administration, the TH-cam channel page can help at these times we all need to move on the streets and work, that's all I'm literally doing so I'm in big support

I have had the catalytic converter changed out of a Toyota sienna 2002 October 2021. Purchased the tags for two years now here we are November 10 and I can’t get the Toyota to pass. I’m taking it to AutoZone for a reading and hoping I can do it myself. I wish I could remember the cost of the catalytic converter. I have been looking for the paperwork but I can’t find it but this is my mothers van and she passed from Covid in 2020 so I’m a bit emotionally attached to the vehicle. This is the vehicle she purchased to drive all 4 of her grand boys around safely.

I bought a used 2010 Buick Enclave. My inspection is already very late. The past few weeks, I had to change my oxygen sensors. My mechanic suggested, I drive 30 miles b4 coming in for the inspection, and leave my car on. I did that, and he still said it wasn’t ready for emissions inspection,. I drove even more miles, and put an adapter on the car.
Afterwards, he gave me very specific instructions,
He said to drive at 55 mph for 3 minutes, and then to decrease the speed (without breaking) to 20 mph.. And excellerate to 55-60
If that doesn’t work, they said a smoke test can be done

So I just had my evap fixed buy a professional mechanic and although I passed my test it's still the only monitor that's not ready and usually the EVAP is one that's ready right away at least with my car and the only one I've always had an issue with was the O2 sensor that's forever to kick in so I'm clueless as to why the EVAP was prepared over a week ago and it's still not ready
U have to drive and do key cycles do like 10 miles then turn off and wait 2-3 minutes put the key back in and start do another 10 miles do that few times it should eventually get ready
Evap actually usually takes the longest. Even the weather will effect the running of it.

In nys you can pass that part of inspection if there is only one not ready on MY 2001 and after , 2 not ready on 1996 to 2000.

If it’s loosing power it will cause the systym to loose memory of cycle it’s just like reset if the ecm

Yes u will fail fix the misfire. If u feel small shake that’s is the misfire
Change your spark plug in cylinder 3. If u want to be certain tho I’d suggest changing all spark plugs as well as changing the Ignition coil for cylinder 3. Thk me later. Might as well change out pcv valve while you’re at it. These repairs will take u about 30min to an hour, doing it yourself with a socket wrench set.

Was wondering if you can help me. I have no codes at all. I rebuild the engine for my 2005 GMC Yukon XL. I’ve been driving it for at least 800 miles. All the emission lights are green except the catalytic converter. like I said no engine light for the catalyst converter and no pending codes for CATS at all. I wondering is it normal for it to take this long to turn green? And why is it taking forever?
Yeah that can happen u have to drive and do key cycles as well so drive like 20 miles then turn off and wait 2-3 minutes turn back on and drive for another 4-6 miles that’s one key cycle and do that few times
Could also be some of the inputs are not correct. A common one on GM is the Coolant temp sensor. The drive cycle might say the monitor wont run unless the Coolant and Ambient temps start out 20 degrees of each other. BUt if one is reading incorrectly at start up they might never be withing 20 degrees so the monitor never runs. South main auto has a video on it titled "Chevy Trailblazer: Will Not Run A Drive Cycle"

I have a 2013 fiat 500 it passed every test except the emission test. there’s a check engine light on and the reason why it comes on is because there a air temperature control in the mirror which causes the engine light to come on. But it passes every test until the emission test it fails every time. If I fixed the sensor will it pass the emissions. Or do I just drive it instead with the engine light on. It only has 6000 miles on the car.

I have a code for a fuel level sensor so its throwing an engine light several mechanive have tried and failed to fix what seems to be an electrical problem so even if i reset it it comes back before i can get it emissions ready .....any ideas

@@RBTheMechanic yes i dont recall the code but its the fuel level sensor isnt communicating long story short when i had my truck inspected everything worked fine when i got it back i had a bunch of electrical issues my radio wasnt working driver seat wont adjust sun roof wont open ...when it started i replaced the fuel pump and since ive had several mechanics try and fail to figure out whats wrong checking grounds and such im frustrated at this point because i need to make it through emissions and i cleared the codes the engine light stays off while im driving to get everything reset for emissions but as soon asnits all good it throws the engine light again and at this point i cant afford to keep payin mechanics to try and find it

Yeah bro there’s nothing you can to keep driving try to drive lot in one day and donkey cycles meaning drive about 10-15 mines turn the car off and back on drive more key off and on do it several times maybe it will work out quicker
What happens if you fail the emissions test after getting your repairs done the first time that it failed?
Here in jersey nothing they give u 30 days to come back and do it again what ever the issue is fix it. Did u drive the car at least 90 miles after repair?
I’m having this problem now with my 2022 Honda pilot brought it to the dealership. They had to do a software update for a recall on my trail sport I have my EGR showing not ready in my evaporate showing not ready. How many miles do I have to drive cause I got a rejection sticker shouldn’t the dealership told me about this. Knowing that I was going to need an inspection sticker this month. Yeah ok well drive the car good amount there’s no specific amount miles and it will pass systym has key cycles but if u can do 3-4 key cycles that would me ideal so try driving 10-15 miles turn off and then after minutes turn back on that would be 1 key cycle and the. Do same again 3 more times. Best would be to do it is one day not today once then tomorrow and next day car dose go back to loop mode once it’s get cold anyways. This is ur only option there’s no repairs needed just drive and do key cycles and if it dosent pass do more as u can see I drove this car lot

Hi this is Dave again I just put 550 miles and still nothing is happening should I bring it to the dealership because of the software update they did there ones that caused this it only got 5000 miles and less than a year old it’s a 2022 Honda pilot. Thanks in advance. I did about 6 to 7 key cycles. Maybe even more I’m only getting 15 miles to the gallon. It’s saying my evaporator and EGR.

My headlights are burnt out I took my car like that to get a smog check. Does that have anything to do with secondary air system not ready? It didn’t pass.

Did he give u print out? Well idk what u mean by mil usully it mean the check engine is on u should have codes either the code is not ready. U might want to get a small scan tool like this and check ur self before u go

Its highly unlikely that any of this is going to work on a modern vehicle. You need to understand how the system works if you want to fix it. First, you can't put your car in limp mode with a scan tool. You also can't clear a hard fault. You have to fix the problem or it won't go away.
Here's what really happens. When a car is getting "ready", it usually means the engine is running in open loop. Your PCM operates in either open or closed loop. When you first start your car, the PCM runs in open loop until it warms up. Cat's and O2 sensors don't work properly until they reach a certain operating temperature. The PCM sets fuel trims using data it receives from O2's and cats. When in open loop, it ignores the data from the O2 sensors because they will give a false reading until they reach temperature. If the PCM starts out in closed loop, you would get a check engine light every time you start your car.
As for clearing codes to pass an emissions test, you're probably not going to get away with it. Modern vehicles are set up so you can't do that. Emissions DTC's are hard faults. That means the only way to get rid of them is to fix the problem. Also, its hard to cheat because when you clear emissions DTC's they turn into permanent DTC's. Only the PCM can clear them. It monitors the system, and when its sure the problem is actually fixed, and not something temporary, like clearing the codes right before you get it inspected, it will then shut the perm DTC off.
If you're not passing an emissions test, run an EVAP test with your scan tool and see if you can locate the problem. Repair costs will vary depending on what's wrong with the system, but there's a good chance it won't be too expensive. If the parts are easy to reach, you can probably make the repair yourself.

@@RBTheMechanic Maybe. How do you know exactly what caused the car to fail? I'm not saying you're making anything up or don't know what you are doing. I'm just saying its a possibility you may have been mistaken as to the reason. And I'm talking from experience. You'll be hard pressed to find someone who's made more mistakes than me.
However, nothing is impossible. Maybe you just had an extreme case. If you just put a battery in, don't clear all the communications codes that were set, reset the BMS, drive the car long enough to come out of open loop and report STFT's and run long enough to recalculate LTFT's, what you are saying could happen if you took it directly to an inspection station. Especially if its cold out.

In my 2015 Impala it says:"Evap/Egr Not Ready". I was told to do some highway driving where the vehicle can get up to 55-65mph. Then it would go into "Ready" status. Is this true? I failed NY inspection because of Not Ready on both those monitors.

@@rwarren4637 yes that is correct. all the monitors have to be ready for a proper reading . usually there's like 5 or 6 monitors. Once they are all ready then they run the test. if No codes appear it will pass.

I'm moving to New Jersey and I have a 1997 bmw M3. Does it have to get an emmisions test since it's 25 years old? I installed a turbo kit so it defentely will not pass emmisions.

Man my car has 30k miles and the Evap, O2, and Fuel system keep showing Not Ready. Don't drive much but put 7 days, 230 miles, and a full tank of gas between inspection attempts and the same systems still Not Ready. No codes popping, just not ready

The EVAP system sometimes won't become ready with either a full tank or less than a quarter tank. So quit filling the tank all the way up or letting her run dry during your drive cycle and it should kick in. That and key cycles so every 20 or so miles, turn the vehicle off, open the door, close the door, reopened the door, rekey, drive, and repeat till it becomes ready. There's actually some papers you can find online for the specific drive cycle requirements for your make model and year of car. Not all drive cycles will be the same for each vehicle.
My car has failed the emissions test 5 times, it keeps coming back with the evap and catalyst not ready and it doesn’t have the engine light on. I replaced the pcm, fixed the mesh that broke on the muffler and change the cilinders. The mechanics just keep telling me to keep driving it

Some times u have to flash the ecm other wise drive the hell out of it and u have to do key cycles notice how I turn off and on the car every drive that’s key cycles

Went today, and same here failed 4x's. Keep saying to drive 30 minutes to an hour for my 2007 pontiac g6. I drive everyday around the DMV to reset.

Question when you plug in the ob2 reader for the test not the handheld code reader would the test show if your ecu vin does not match you frame vin because i have a junk yard ecu that works good but the vin is diffrent from the one that is on the frame and registration you can see it with a code reader with the vin read function and idk if this would pass the emissions test when you plug in the obd2 reader from the emissions tester pls lmk cause i dont wanna waste money on test if it would be useless
Not sure about that but I had Hondas that kept check engine light on after I replace the ecu it needed to be flashed by dealer

What u mean not passing? Lot of people go to inspection wake up and drive to station usully they fail cuz system is not ready that mean drive it before u do give it good 10-15 miles

My car has been at dealership almost 6 months, it got new engine ,battery, pcm and few other things. I got my car back today and they told me to run the car until it comes back ready. My question is how do I run my car until it's ready with expired tags on it?
Do about 100 150 miles and take it back to them as u can see I put on scanner it shows me when it’s ready but u can’t do that. They are so lame this is their job anyways let me k ow how it goes

@@chrissyluna8183 well u have no choice but if u want u can go to inspection they will fail ur car but then u have 30days to get this settled that’s how it works in NJ what state u in im sure it’s same. However I should stick it to the dealer. But if ur only doing inspection don’t worry get rejected sticker if u feel safer that way and then drive the car

I’ve driven my Kia soul over 1100 miles and it’s still not ready all I had done was my battery cables disconnected cleaned and reconnected two weeks ago about 1100 miles ago and I just found an omissions test today I really don’t know what to do nothing is wrong with it it’s working fine it’s just to not really code how much more do I gotta drive it? The mechanic told me I might have to drive it for another month or two that sounds extreme?I called the dealership they said I would probably have to replace the computer in the car and that would be about $1500 so I don’t know I’m very frustrated
@@honeybadger713 give it give it month don’t replace nothing some time it can take long I had one car which I ran for about 600 miles I had customer that did over 1000 miles it just takes time. Don’t be frustrated just give it time and drive it.

You can't clear a hard fault. It stays on until you fix the problem. The first thing you should do is look at the sensor closely and see how its bolted on. The holes for the sensor will either be a circle or an oval in shape. If its an oval, you can loosen the sensor and slide it left or right. Try it in a different positions and you may get lucky. If that doesn't work, swap the sensor with the one on the other cam. If the problem follows the sensor, that's what you need to replace. If not, you're going to have to do some diagnostics.

It’s not reassuring that a professional mechanic with all the right tools can’t fix the problem without spending hours driving the car with sensors running. = Doom = zero chance common person fixing. Dealership $1400 to replace whole system = throw car in trash.

this is such bs. My car (13 hyundai elantra) has a Bank 1 too lean code and the car runs completely fine. Switched oxygen sensors, code still shows. I dont have the money to change the catalytic converter or keep throwing money to see what will finally fix it. If I cant figure something out by the end of may i basically gotta get rid of the car

i'm in the same situation, i'm being forced to ABUSE my black 2007 fully loaded jeep grand cherokee srt 8. it now has 59,100+ miles on it after putting ~30 miles on it yesterday. that was painful. found out today 11/5/22 it's STILL not ready.
Literally got a brand new battery and drove to get an emissions test like a moron. The same things you listed were not ready
