55 years ago I got married and first thing I bought was cook books from all over the world. My mother only cooked every other weekend and I hated it ..i was going to change that. So far I haven't eaten in a Chinese restraunt around here that makes as good dim sum ,hot pot, peking duck or noodles as I do from scratch..my girls grew up eating their way around the world at my dining room table..we " traveled thru Asia, Europe, south/ central America, the United States and islands in the sun..i always thought when I retired that I would do that for real...i am glad I did all that exploring in my kitchen because now I am disabled and have major intestinal problems and can't eat many things...thank you for letting us join you.

@@generaltso1469 we ate leftovers and then what ever could be made from start to finish in 20 minutes. In other words --- crap. She wasnt going to spend her life cooking, and had the attitude that you eat to live. And was afraid she would get fat I think. And by the way ...i have weighed the same as when i graduated for these 55 years...proving it's all how much you eat not how good the food is...

Personally, I think "authentic" isn't really a helpful distinction. There's traditional Chinese food from different stances, but there's also American Chinese food which was created by the Chinese diaspora in America.

HA! Enjoyed watching your video as I sat in my office in Jilin City...even had lunch while watching it...AND I still felt hungry watching you guys eating all that delicious food. I was first introduced to real Chinese cooking after I met my wife ( 她是东北人)。 Started visiting China in 2010 and have been living here since 2015. We get to travel all over China and enjoy the food everywhere we go. The diversity in Chinese cuisine is amazing, but there are so many dishes that weave a common thread throughout the food here as well. I laughed out loud when C-Milk commented about being called a foreigner in his own country...that is so true...I hear that often in the US when my wife and I go out to eat Chinese food or go grocery shopping at 99 Ranch. The origin story for hot pot can also be a touchy one depending on who you talk with...lol. Glad to see y'all are staying awesome on your new adventures! I think it would be interesting to see where y'all go to buy authentic ingredients for your Chinese dishes at home...depending on the area it can be difficult without relying on family "back home" or online ordering.

I heard that the reason you see those paper boxes on TV all the time is because you have to do multiple takes, and it hides how much food is in the boxes, so the filming is consistent, I've only ever seen those tall paper boxes in two places in my life, most place around me have those clear plastic boxes.

American Chinese food has a head start its made with clean water and contains no lead or chemical outflow from the local plastics plant.
and after saying that its still very close to them,, i would imagine real Chinese food would be better if they had access to better ingredients.

@David Canelas they actually did a video about this they had the water there tested and it was NOT good nor was it even close to the same toxin level as we enjoy in north america.

@David Canelas i had to reply even though it is very late. Fluoride in water is fine, and there are no "toxic particles" in normal tap water.

Great show guys. Watering my mouth just watching all these dishes.
The "raw" fish burito already exists, serpentza.. Here in Norway some of us put smoked salmon (or gravlaks/rakfisk for the more adventurous), sour cream, fine chopped onion with some dille in a lompe (potato tortilla for my non-scandinavian friends). It's a appetizer/snack food in winter time.

Hotpot just reminds me of fondue. There's a place here that is hella expensive that you can do meats and veg in a broth, or in cheese sauce. Its good but I wouldn't do it very often. When I go somewhere and pay a lot of money I want them to make it for me.

@@laowhy86 I always smile when I hear "Corvette", because I'm Swedish. In Swedish, "korv med bröd" means hot dog and "korv" is pronounced the same as the "corv" in corvette", and "ett" in Swedish means the number one, so "Corvette" to me sounds like "Nr. 1 sausage" 😂 "Winston! To the sausage-mobile." 🤣🤣

I worked in a Chinese Kitchen during my teens . I remember being taught they made Western Chinese food.
Now Australians demand the original and traditional type of foods.
Yum Cha is huge in Australia.
Might be why China both protected and helped Australia during the last GFC. China has plans for Australia by the looks of it .
