I really couldnt be arsed going to see a marvel superhero movie anymore .. ive skipped this latest ant man ( and ive gone to se the other two ) simply because im marveled out i just dont care ill wait till it hits Disney plus.. MEH
I find hilarious that Cassie managed to rally the entire Quantum Realm into fighting against Kang, convinced a villain to turn into a good guy, and learn quantum mechanics in 20 seconds to open the portal back to Scott and hope. Not once did I think there was a sense of danger when everything was going well for the good guys

I agree with everything but the last part, as it sounds like Cassie has been studying the Quantum Realm for years. In the end she basically turned her device on again, but it doesn't make much sense since apparently they destroyed the power source? Even if she could send her signal it doesn't mean she would be able to open a portal.

Only part where I remotely thought they were in danger is when Kang was beating the brakes off of Rudd at the end
Imagine if Scott barely escaped with his life, lost his entire family and comes back to earth a completely different man… that would set the stage for Kang.. but not this

Having multiple of the same villain or “variants” imo weakens the threat they pose even if the other “variants” are supposed to be stronger. Something like that could work in comics or maybe in one movie and not split. I wonder how theyll handle villains moving forward
You nailed it, the last few movies have lacked any emotion or purpose. If Scott’s family dies here at least there is purpose for him to seek revenge. End it with the audience questioning whether he made it or not

I think the issue with the MCU is that it's trying to be too big for its own good. They probably need to scale down the stories a bit and make things their own contained films. Every movie or show nowadays is a crossover or a set-up for the next big thing to come and it takes away from what's currently presented to you.
Yea, I think they forgot their own formula. Remember when the movies were self contained, and whatever tie-in there may be was in the after credits scenes (outside of maybe a cameo)? Now, theyre all over the place trying to connect everything or set-up something/somebody else, and it's just a mess.
They want you stuck in the Matrix
Or maybe people should stop expecting some huge set-up for something that might never happen and just live in the moment, enjoy the movie for what it is.

Apparently they changed the ending. Ant man was suppose to stay in the qauntum realm with Kang. Which is where both lose line was suppose to go.
Then they should have done that because the way they defeated Kang is the meaning of not going to take him seriously anymore

I don't think anyone had any doubts about Jonathan Majors as Kang being great, so it is good to see that this part lived up to expectations. But did anyone else notice how they centered their entire marketing campaign around mostly Kang? It's like they knew that the rest of the movie wouldn't hold up as well...
I mean the movie was basically all about Kang lol. I know what you’re saying tho, yeah it was definitely planned that way. Also I didn’t like how the trailers (or at least one of them) framed Kang as offering to give Scott more time with his daughter, when that was not part of it at all. Just sort of misleading and I think would have been added depth to Ant Man’s character.

Yep, Majors carried the entire movie, and I really hope he continues in the MCU as Kang.
He'll be Kang for as long as he wants/as long as the MCU has a use for Kang. Fiege said Majors tested the best of any of their villains thus far, and with the variants angle, Majors is getting to flex some range. I just hope they give him better scripts

Given the track record of the other ant man films being "fillers" and "relief" for the previous film that was a blockbuster. Starting this out for phase 5 was a bad idea.

Exactly why they didn’t want to use Ant Man as a Phase 3 starter. It wasn’t strong enough for that.
It’s because they don’t have any good characters anymore. Eventhough they could have made Guardians a phase 5 movie but then we would criticise them for not knowing what they are doing which is still true lol. Or open with Fantastic 4, or open with Xmen, or open with Spiderman. They just need to actually be bold enough to stop making marvel movies for a bit.

It was done wrong the Quantum realm works narrative wise its how its shot. And the format sets and the visual blur some people shouldn't do Sci Fi esk story components. This also isnt the worst film with all films but it doesn't really do anything. Its script as well but marvel didn't care cuz its Ant Man.

This was a rare case for me where reading/watching reviews beforehand actually helped me out. I was so hyped and excited for this movie, but seeing the negative reviews grounded my expectations, and after watching the movie I actually had fun. I was still pretty disappointed on how they portrayed Kang, and by that I mean his writing, because Jonathan Majors was so good in the role that even though he was written quite bad, he was still very intimidating whenever he was on screen.
Yep same for me, i was expecting some garbage level like Thor the dark world, She hulk or Ms marvel level type bad😂
I love the part where Ant Man says "I don't have to win, we both just have to lose" and starts antmaaning all over the place.
This movie doesn't deserve anything above a 4/10. I left the theatre with a 6/10 in mind, but the more I reflected upon it, the more it dawned on me that barely anything works here.
Argh! I saw it early, and people I. My theater remained quiet for the entire thing, with maybe a few laughs at the reveal of modok’s CGI face and how he “redeems” himself because a little girl called him a dick?
And by the end, after the credits rolled and the final after credits scene, no one cheered nor was talking about it, they all quietly left as if they just witnessed another stinker of a film

The script for this movie was ass. They should have written Kang to beat Ant man’s ass and throw him back in the portal. Close it and see that Ant man put a quantum sensor on the sphere to break it and suck Kang in when he’s on the other side.
That way we see that Kang wins the fight but Ant man was smart enough to have a trick up his sleeve that may or may not have worked.

I read some reviews before going to see it last night... I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect, but a lot of things worked for me. I am not sure how He Who Remains relates to this at all, that part is very confusing to me...

I enjoyed the movie too so we are in the minority here. I love this one better than the first 2 Antman movies 🍿 Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Douglas was great and funny 😆 admitting that they cheated on each other😂😂”A woman has her needs.” And the other one, “ Well I was with someone as well, but it didn’t work out…She wasn’t you baby.”
same. For me, kang was just too good of a character for me not to enjoy. every scene with him I loved and the rest was decent. However, I do think that at the end, Scott should’ve got stranded in the quantum realm or kang should’ve escaped or something idk.
Ant man defeating kang and going back to a happy life just seems off to me. it makes kang seem a lot less powerful knowing he can just be defeated by ant man like that. and it’s crazy how easily kang’s empire was overrun by ant man and the others. but still enjoyed

We have established that shrinking or growing can move you to and from the quantum realm, and that core was tagged with a whole crap lode of pym particles.
What's to say that by "stopping" Kang, he didn't accidentally give him exactly what he wanted in the end by helping him pass through the one realm that could hold him. As soon as Kang is in any verse that time runs normally, he has everything he needs to rebuild and come back.
Just my take away.
I never saw any reviews or trailers for this film so I went in completely blind. I didn't hate it like some commenters here which is valid. At the end of the day I had fun (especially compared to Thor 4) watching with friends but the movie itself isn't anything special which now that I think about it is how I felt for all the Ant-man movies.
Martin Scorsese proved his point except it’s getting worse
No kidding, Im an Mcu fan but the momentum they have is getting worse. Their only saving grace is doing elseworld films, so they can have their films some creative freedom and to stray away from the ridiculous MCU formula

Part of the fatigue could be that a lot of the new stuff getting introduced isn’t hitting general audiences as hard anymore. Both externals & Quantumanias post credit scenes aren’t fulfilling at all and I can imagine people not knowing wtf is going on anymore (general audiences are likely not watching the shows but also they’re not obligated to do so causing them to just give up)
Yep taking no name characters and not giving their story the proper telling is ruining this. When you are done with the characters that everyone knows already, you have really have good story telling and they don't anymore.
THANK YOU this is exactly why most people who are casuals and even some hardcore fans are getting tired of this oversaturated content with no end in sight.

Too many shitty scripts, rushed movies and C tier characters. Now that Iron man, Cap and the OG Avengers are gone, the MCU will struggle until they get the X-men on board.

The logical/narrative bullshitery, especially in the third act, nearly gave me an aneurysm. Loved Mr. Majors and hated fake MODOK. 5/10.
Kang hopelessly watches big Scott fck sht up like he can’t just teleport outside and one shot him in a second or two. Kang’s blasts pulverize everybody but when it hits main characters it just pushes them kinda far. Then when the ants come in he just gives up in using his powers altogether.

Is funny the fact who Cinema with scene can hype the expectations with the Villain or Antagonist the start from The Dark Night, Hannibal, Death from Puss on Boots 2. The MCU did it with the First Appearance of Thanos on Infinity War is killing most of the crew on the ship (He's ruthless) Having Thor on his knees ( He's Powerful ) and then Beating the Hulk only punching (The Strongest) there, people know by other characters Thanos is a threat, but now you can see how much threat it is, Kill Asgard, Kill Loki, Beating Thor and the Hulk.
And is kind of funny think the fact that wanted to make us believe Kang is in theory more powerful than Thanos.
The critic score was pretty accurate for me, it is definitely a 4-5/10, 48% is appropriate. My suspension of disbelief was completely shattered, too much of the movie was overly convoluted and nonsensical just for the sake of it.

For a movie focused on Kang it really didn't uitilize him as well as he could've been. Especially since he's supposed to be the main bad guy in this new Marvel saga

The Antman series has always been the weak link in the MCU franchise (one shot movies like Eternals notwithstanding). If they wanted the third Antman film to setup the next main phase, they should have gone with a new director and new vision to switch it up like they did with Thor and Captain America.
I never understood WHY they brought in Ant-Man. Nobody ASKED for an Ant-Man movie, and they made him seem so pathetic at times that it was just sad. I really wish they had done a better job. Tony Stark’s reaction to him in the end of civil war, where he says “I’m sorry who are you again?”, is similar to what alot of people think when Ant-Man is brought up.

It is a shame that the MCU's winning streak has been starting to fall apart. Maybe not surprising after Endgame, but still a shame to see, especially since despite everything there's still...a few things I'm excited about with the future of the MCU. Hope they notice and this movie was just too far done to be improved all that much. It does stand out to me there's a big break after the Marvels, hope those 2024 movies get the time they need to come out great.

But the earlier phases have meh movies too. Iron Man 2 was basically 1 and Iron Man 3 got retconned by Infinity War/Endgame. Captain America first Avengers was ok. Thor 2 was eh. My favorite Doctor Strange moments were not in his movies. We're seeing the same formula so many times that we have reached "Origin" fatigue. It's a shame we will be trapped with several more phases of Origin stories before we get another team movie
I have only watched No Way Home since Endgame. Marvel isn't flogging a dead horse any more; it's making soup from its bones, freezing it, only to obliterate it again with a sledgehammer.

The Quantum city and Kang should have been elaborated in way greater depth, with more lore and more diverse setpieces. The rumor says the film has a lot of cut material that did not fit with the pg13 btw. Kang is somewhat portrayed as a blue bubblegum Thanos and is way underwhelming as a menacing threat atm.
I hate specifically targeting somebody, but after the film I looked up the writer who worked on the film. In which he has never written a feature length film and all his writing credits are a handful of television sitcoms and Jimmy Kimmel live episodes. Before Antman he worked on Rick and morty, though they were also the most mid episodes of that show. I’m just confused on how he became the only writer on this movie, when he doesn’t have the experience, and only has written throw away comedy episodes. Not saying he doesn’t deserve to break into feature film, but this was such a big budget film to throw someone with his experience into.
I wonder why they didn't just use the writer from the past two Ant-Man films?

Spoilers- Man, I Loved this film especially the fight between Antman/ Wasp vs Kang. I like how the Ants fought Kang too. Their survival depended on him getting free too. However, I think they toned down Kang because I think he would demolish those ants if it wasn't for Modok. Kang never flinched when those ants showed up. He was truly terrifying when Janet stole his core. His rage WOW.
For an Ant-Man film this is exactly what I was expecting. I enjoyed it, however my expectations were never high going in to see this to begin with. Light years better than Love and Thunder and Eternals. Can’t wait to see the range of Jonathan Majors in his endless roles as Kang.

I think the problem is the scale of the story. Like you guys mentioned, the single hero stories do better when they're fighting for lower stakes, it fits better when they're fighting a villain that they're connected too, Ant-Man fighting for the sake of the universe by himself doesn't work. It's an Avengers level threat

100% agree. Kang will come back as Dr Doom variant and introduce the fantastic 4. I think he'll play a couple of different variants in different movies, each one growing stronger than the last.

Honestly I just come to this channel for Alex at this point. He's consistent. Joe CANNOT Praise The Last of Us and then nitpick this bc he turned his Critic mode on. The movie was amazing. Yes some aspects overshadowed the small back and forth drama without really pushing why Janet was so scared of Kang other than that 10 seconds montage.

The MCU has really gone down the drain since Endgame. Not surprising but still pretty disappointing especially considering how the "post-Endgame" era had a pretty promising start with WandaVision, Loki and No Way Home

What a lot of people don’t know if he’s a new actor, relatively green. he started acting later in life. in an interview, he said he started acting about five years ago.

I’m a big marvel fan but I didn’t know who Kang was.
Kang is pretty simplistic. He is a time traveler that wants to conquer. what villain doesn’t want to conquer the word & now the vast multiverse?
If you want me to believe in this villain, he needs to be more complex than just a conqueror.
So where do I begin with Ant-man quantum mania?
I loved all the ant Man films, they’re lighthearted, corky, funny and uplifting. Who doesn’t love an underdog story?
In Ant-man Quantamania, there are times where jokes are funny, and their times where jokes are inappropriate at inappropriate times when things are supposed to be more serious.
You have Hank’s wife Janet, who is terrified of the quantum realm yet an ant man, too. She was totally fine with Scott Lang going into the quantum realm before they blipped..
Fast forward to Ant-man quantum mania Janet is completely terrified of the quantum realm, she doesn’t want to talk about the quantum realm or what she has been through.
To make a long story short, Janet talks about how horrific Kang the conqueror is, once they go to the quantum realm. Everyone that lives there talks the big talk about how scary and conniving Kang is.
Finally, when we get to meet Kang the conquer
At first, he is very serious, and he does seem like somewhat of a threat. He has high technology and can kill you with just conjuring his hands.
It took kAng 50 minutes to show up.
Fast forward to the battles with Kang to get out of the quantum realm without him he is EASILY defeated. If a whole bunch of ants & Ant Man can defeat him how is he a threat? His powers where inconsistent, at first, he seemed very powerful, and then at the end his powers were very ineffective.
You could tell Jonathan Majors was trying his very best at what he was given, but I feel the writers were a tad bit lazy. In this movie, they explain things to you, but they don’t show you.
Murdoch is in this film yellow jacket from first Ant Man Kang uses him as the “ultimate killing machine” he’s a big floating head with baby arms and baby legs. The fact that Kang can be around something so stupid makes me less intrigued by him.
Remember, Thor love and thunder? It felt like a parody of Thor.. Where is Thor was just one big joke? Then you have an awesome actor like Christian Bale that has a very dark and complex character that you want to enjoy and love, but doesn’t fit in the movie because it’s a silly parody?
That’s what happens in this film.
Don’t get me wrong I like Jonathan Majors, but the introduction of Kang has fumbled twice.
He was easily killed in Loki & easily defeated in Ant man.
& we are supposed to be scared of him In loki season 2? Secret wars? Kang dynasty? Come on.
I guess if you shut your brain off and you grabbed some popcorn and didn’t think too hard I can see how this movie is enjoyable for some people, but I’ve always loved marvel and their amazing story telling, and their story arcs that all beautifully intertwine with one another.
This was a very weak and strange way to kick off phase 5.
END CREDIT SCENES
So when someone tells you that there’s an end credit scene with a council of Kangs it sounds cool right?
When I first saw it, I was in disbelief, you have Jonathan Majors playing king tut kang, scarlet cyborg Kang and I forgot the other kang he had cheap blue paint on his face and sounded like he smoked 20 packs of newports a day.
Then you see a trillion other kangs come to the council of Kangs from every possible multiverse and they’re all howling like monkeys from planet of the apes! It felt like an SNL sketch rather than something that is supposed to instill fear into our hearts.
it shocked me the way they portrayed Kang in this movie. Like inconsistent. Kevin Feige what the hell is happening?? Just wildly inconsistent storytelling and narrative crafting

Biggest mistake Disney made was not taking a break of a few years with the MCU after the Infinity Saga. A break would have allowed people to cool off and then come back refreshed and ready for more. But of course Disney only saw $$$
They cut phase 4 short, so this was still meant for it. Hence why they haven’t changed the tone as it was already created, albeit with reshoots as late as last month, for phase 4.
This was just uploaded as my movie ended and waiting on the after credits scenes!

This was supposed to be Kang's introduction as the main big bad guy of Phase 5 and I didn't feel his threat like Thanos before.
Thanos was introduced being a lazy cunt in avengers , Kang got a better introduction than thanos did

I liked the movie it had creative visuals stuff I hadn't seen before my only problem with the movie is it's lack of tension from kang I never felt stressed at any time but other than that I had fun as a one time viewing for this Ant Man movie I like Paul Rudd alot as Ant Man I just felt the film made really lazy choices

I would have had Casey bond with her Grandparents trying to reopen the Quantum Realm. Wasp would have been trying to get to Ant-man and learning more about her Mother's hidden past with Kang etc. Then have Ant-Man role remain largely the same. I would have had Wasp and Ant-Man sacrifice themselves to prevent Kang from escaping when Casey opens the Quantum gate.
What i noticed is that no one grew during the movie, they keep saying " theres always room for growth" but they end exactly hiw they started. i mean, antman didnt want to help the rebellion, by the end he ends up getting the help of the rebellion just to get his daughter, thats not growth thats convenience
I get that this a little bit disappointing especially Kang but at least his not as bad as gorr the god butcher or Wanda, also Kang is going to be in a lot of projects of the MCU especially his other variants so I think it's kinda of best if they build his character slowly from maybe worst to best. After all there are many Kang's one can be better than the other.
Yeah, that's what I am hoping for, we go from weakest variant to the Strongest, Cruelest and Worst (in a good villainous way) Kang Variant.
Wanda is better wtf. She felt like a genuine threat. Could have been better. But I feel like they did a good job at conveying the power of the Scarlett witch.

We saw the first Kang variant in Loki. Now he was the weakest as in he did not put up a fight and has done and seen everything that he no longer wished to continue, so he gave up and other loki just got done with him in one swift move. He was the weakest on screen Kang. Now I dont know how strong is the one in this movie but as per reviews, Not that much. I hope as we continue to see other variants of Kang in future movies they are better than the last until the very last who would be the biggest, meanest, strongest, variant we've seen in MCU.

Movie was easily a 7, maybe an 8. Honestly the only criticism I agree with here is that the mom (Janet) not telling anyone anything about the dangers down in the quantum realm was such a heavy plot requirement that is did stick out as just bad writing. The acting was great, the movie was fun and it was exactly what you would expect from an Antman movie.
Ant man and the wasp quantimainium was so intense i whipped my quilly little incher out and ejected my seed directly into my sister’s popcorn bucket. Quantemania unleshed in her nervous system

Even though I've been tapped out of the MCU since Doctor Strange 2, the Ant Man films were always my favorites so it's sad to hear that the 3rd one seems to be falling flat with most people.

I think Marvel needs more movies that aren’t connected to this universe. Full budget movies that aren’t venom or morbius, that don’t have to follow along the super complicated narrative we have. Just my opinion
Kang is not a compelling villain so far....he is way too hyped! Some scenes just fell flat.
In my mind so far it is Thanos, Killmonger, Ulyses Klaus, Hela and Ronan the accuser as my top 5 MCU villians!
