I like seeing the mess ups... the part where you didn't buy enough cpncrete, or almost hit your truck with the door trim. Or even when your screws weren't making contact when you were putting the window in. I like seeing what you did to over come those problems and what could happen when you are doing these projects. A lot of people will show you how to do something but never show you what can go wrong.
"Oh you got to be kidding me". That has been my mantra the last 2 years working on my house. The house was built in 1960, and the previous owner was a crackhead with no Trade experience, but lots of enthusiasm.
Cheers!
ME TOO
😂

I feel this comment…
I just finished (literally yesterday) a complete remodel of a 1960 house that was horribly neglected for the last 15 years. It took 6 months of nights and weekends, but it’s all over now.
This is a must-watch for homeowners of older properties. Its concise and practical tips make it accessible for anyone looking to revitalize their aging home without a hefty budget or extensive renovations. From simple cosmetic upgrades to clever design tricks, this video provides a fresh perspective on rejuvenating older houses, making it an invaluable resource for DIY enthusiasts and homeowners alike. thumbs up bro👍
My husband and I both agree regarding integrity. A job done right is a job done well😊
I would give you two 👍👍 if I could. It was great to see the unexpected issues fixed properly 👏 👍 Well done!
Cheers Peggy, happy to share my experiences!
Physics over chemistry! That's the best definition of architecture I have ever heard. Brilliant!
Cheers, still love adhesives and caulking but would rather rely on physics if I can.
Yea that one really made something click for me too.
Edit: the way he put it in his last video anyway.
Love your channel, I recently retired, and my goal was to renovate my fathers house 🏠, this channel has helped me so much
Being from Sweden seeing NA houses is fascinating. And really just want to share what's so different. We build the framing around the windows larger and then install the window frames which are separate from the actual window. We then suspend the window frame within the framing with thick set screws and then we pack with glassfiber around the window frame (sometimes foam, depending on style and company) Finally hang the window on/install it depending on mechanism. After that we install boards around the windows to cover the space, top board span the length of the side boards, and the some. And above that we have a recessed handmade metal drip sheeting which gets bent to ensure thay physics win, just like a wide short little runoff. Water runs down the facade, onto drip sheeting then runs out over the entire window onto the ground. The metal is often same as the roof if its metal sheets. This ensures it can stand our weather here but also it moves well with the house and is a dream to adjust and replace.
I get blown away seeing plastic facade. It's greek for us. We do wood and stone in different ways, only. Or at least 98% of the time.
Also thickness of walls. My god. We got almost half a meter end to end. Sure we got tough winters!
I bet you do things because of your market and worked out standards. Its not critique it's just so different from our world here.
Rules and regulations are sooooo different. Electrical installation and plumbing is so different as well.
Love watching your content. I love learning things which you're really good at but also seeing and learning how you do things over there.
I guess you would feel the same thing walking around my house. Damn that would've been a nice video, you heading to a newly built and a old house in Sweden. Hehe. Seeing the difference.
Dane here - these (southern) US videos really are extremely exotic to us as well. The principles are - naturally - similar, but the means are very, very different.
as someone from north america, sometimes, it feels like all our houses are the same and it gets boring :D
As a Chicagoan I’m glad the neighbor next door is a proud Canadian Cubs fan 😆.
Cheers!
I truly appreciate your videos. You’ve given me the confidence to do so many things on my own that I’ve otherwise have spent thousands on! Invaluable!
Thanks
Happy to help by sharing my experience. Cheers to your effort!
This video was fantastic!! I inherited a 40 year old home from my late parents and this tutorial has been an excellent resource! Thank you so much!!
Glad it was helpful!
Great as always. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Always great to learn from you.
Holy shizz Jeff!!! Been awhile since I've been back to the channel. Over 2.9 million subs now!? Atta boy!!!
Looking forward to helping as many folks as we can. Cheers!
Love the videos! Bit of advice for the concrete. 2 things, first on a slope like that and with a high slump start at the lowest point so it slumps into itself, 2nd thing is once you get it in and flat, go grab a bite to eat and give it some time to cure before you finish it. It should take a fingerprint without sticking to your finger. Youll be able to work moisture back up and itll finish a lot cleaner/ easier
Great video. Time Stamps would be amazingly helpful.
20:05 whop whop whop!! Yep! Lol 😂😂
A gold mine for knowledge
Cheers!
Awesome! Thank you! Blessings 💕🤗💕
I learned with renovations it never goes the way you think it’ll go.
I really in joy your video's! You keep it real!
Jeff thank you for explain with so much detail it does make a difference
Glad to help
I watched the WHOLE video. You are a hard worker!
That is one rule in my life. I will always outwork my competition!
Watched the whole video too, I'm also hard.
Your awning are the same color that our awnings are. Must have been a special on that color in Florida.
Sure could use you in Swansea MA!! ❤ I have shingle issues rotted on the deck because of flashing water issues. 😢
that window almost falling has happened to me as well very top heavy when open and hard to balance. glad you left it in and didnt cut it out cause stuff like that happens even to seasoned tradesmen
All the time. Cheers!
Great job and info. 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thx Jeff
Cheers my man!
I'm in Massachusetts and would love to meet up with you. Right now, I'm getting my new to me truck camper mounted on my truck. They are telling me the end of this month. Can't wait to hit the road.
"Niiice and gentle-like"
Five seconds prior: BANG BANG SMACK BOOM
Lol I love this channel.
Here in Florida my assessed home value just went up 220%. that means my property taxes will probably double next year. I think the millage rate also just went up .39. Thanks for your advice.
You are amazing!
Instead of installing all those windows in the front, I would have tried to turn three of them into one in order to have two large picture windows. That always make a house look so much better from outside.
I'm assuming that the studs between the windows are supporting the weight of the roof. Most people don't want to deal with permits and engineers to add a big picture window to their double wide lol.
I was looking for stock windows to save time and money. Cheers!
Awesome stuff RenoNinja sir
I did not watch it through: I figured I saw the parts already! But thanks Jeff! As always 🥶🖤🔔👍🏻
No worries!
You are so good at explaining things and making someone like me think I might be able to do some of theses projects.
Yeah, that's exactly right. And because of Jeff, I changed my non-working ceiling light, rolled fiberglass on my rusted bathtub, got ready to paint, and started looking for small projects in my house.😅
Cheers Maureen. You can do it and I can help!
Wow that house looks great now
Wait until you see the inside!
Did all the neighbors stop by to see if they could hire you to do their house next?
OMG I wish it was that easy to dig in my yard here in Texas a lot of clay
I think they might have put the insolation on to prevent the new from hitting the original siding and making noise. I don't see any other reason they would have put piece in like that.
I score the flange with sand paper then wipe with alchohol prior to installing the putty.
great tip joe! nothing like clean and rough!
Love it!
Cheers!
Verticals trim around windows for my bump out 4 window block was accomplished by undercutting the 221/2 angle pvc boards for the corners. Beautiful, little pricey!
Great job, looks really good 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
How much does that resin cost per square metre. Looks lovely when its finished
Ignore my last message it was meant for somebody else
Never worked with concrete, this may seem like a dumb question but during curing is it expanding at all or contracting? J/w as I'd assume you'd take that into consideration keeping it all level. Thanks again for an awesome video!
it shrinks for sure. in the end this is looking really great and no cracking. Cheers!
Those nests you're finding are mud dobber nests; they are a type of wasp but as far as I know they don't sting. I've never been stung by one and I've been around them my entire life.
Hey Jeff, any advice on tiling over a painted concrete wall without removing the paint?
I would have put PVC trim board in between the windows instead of the siding. Just cut a plough groove in the back side almost all the way through and bend the board to wrap the bend in between the two windows. I would make a great accent between the windows. Then caulk the edges to the windows.
Bless you, Matt!! @1:15:33 😂
Same thing happens to me using that 3M masker with plastic. I always end up struggling to do the cutoff.
Thank you Jeff for another great video. Are you expanding to US ? Whose property is this? Many thanks!
have a home in the UK and all is done
northern tool has scaffolding that is more commercial ... I have both sets of standing platfrorms, yellow on wheels is great inside
looks better in white - wonder if you had trouble w/ flying insects coming in while the windows were coming out
Hey Jeff, this question is unrelated to this video, but I figured you'd be looking at responses on a new video.
Would you recommend using the subfloor system with the foundation wrap and TnG plywood on an existing concrete slab?
My shed floor has rotted away (bought house from grandparents 8 years ago, 1949 wartime house). It used to have a small garage. They removed it and built a shed and put it on the existing foundation. They made a garbage subfoor with a wooden grid system and put rubber matts over top.
I fixed the cracks and level the slab, siliconed where the 2x4 framing touches the slab ( water was getting in). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
the secret here is to know that the old slab is porous and water is coming in from the bottom up.so anything to separate the new from the concrete will manage moisture transfer and eliminate future rot which is going to be awesome. Cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Thanks, man!
You can just go eh when installing doors I’m going to say that every time I install doors 😂😂😂
I had vinyl siding on my house and once it was painted it began to warp because of the heat effect on it. The siding guys told me only to paint wood or hardiplank in the future. Is that something you agree with or have seen?
Tie the bottom of the tarp around the base then pull both sides of the top of the tarp and one person can give the spray man maximum clearance with ease.
I thought you were kidding when you put your finger "on the plate" of your circular saw, AT THE leading edge! @2:09:11 Then you pulled the saw on a 1x4x48+ strip of pvc, starting your cut @ the end of the board that was hanging over the table by a foot and a half and bouncing aggressively! "Hey that's a technique I would like to try...YYYYEEOOOWWW!!" said 4-finger Mikey...
Has anyone thought about using tool libraries. I work in Buffalo New York and also work out of Rochester New York too and both cities have tool libraries and it’s just like the description says, you can pay a yearly subscription fee which is like $25 but then you can take out any tools that the library has, and they usually have a good supply of tools just letting, some of you know that.
great idea. Cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY I just realized, that this might be an entire show that you could do on tool libraries.
Did you run into "Florida Man" at all while down there? hahah. If you ever do projects in Michigan, that would be awesome! We're right near Windsor, Ontario too. Would love to pay your company to do my basement, but I know you already have a great video on that! You could film here too and we have gigabit up/down fiber internet - and hardwire too!
Painting a wall outside, maybe, but I would definately wear a mask when painting a whole house. Wind conditions can change. I think it's a bad advise to a otherwise great video! take care!
Help too. Same age and own it. The black belly paper needs to be replaced. I dont know how. Im ordering the 14×70. But should i order the spray foam and gun application tool and use it first?
🤗🤗🦊
only if you need to change the insulation as well.
Siding and painting up next for me hopefully. If I want to paint my siding green. And the original color is light blue can I just replace parts with white piece of vinyl instead of trying to color match.
Definitely Caleb. It may take 2 coats to get the same color in the end but be patient and remember less is more when spraying. always fix light spots after it dries. Cheers!
Appreciate that
Welcome to Florida construction. I feel all your pain and Spend many days trying to figure out what happened in 1980 and why is nothing square or level?
Danggg how do I get some renos done by you in the states?
I missed the beginning of this house reno did Jeff buy a summer home? Or did he get contracted for this?
I'm thinking the Bahamian shutters were not useless. Since I can't tell the directions from the video, and I don't know what time of the year it is, still, the sun can be very hot, and in Florida, they work to escape solar gain. I doubt that anyone would go to the expense of installing them, unless they were needed, but I guess I don't really know that they wouldn't, just for the look.
When Jeff was taping up that window talking about if you're the kind of person that wants that level of care and detail you have to do it yourself it's like he was talking right to me. I am constantly disappointed by the quality of workmanship any time I have to hire anyone to do something. It's also not like I'm going with the cheapest option either, I'd happily pay the price for quality work it's just no one seems to do the quality of work I expect. As someone with a busy job and life outside of home renos and diy it was more than a bit frustrating to realize I can't outsource anything.
Hello sir. I need advice. A black liquid was leaking from the chimney. Down the wall. I will not cover it with white paint. What can I cover it? I clean with chemicals? Have a beautiful day. Thank, for the videos, tips. Bye. Rudi from Europe - Slovenija.
Love it are you still in Leesburg? I’m 10 min away!
Currently home in Canada enjoying a great Canadian summer....and building another shed project
Jeff you made a comment that you were going to paint the drive way on this house with two part epoxy would love to see a video driveway renovation Please thx
Coming soon!
They do have 1 inch and 3/4 at most depots different applications
Where is ur wheelbarrow for mixing? 2 bags, up higher, easier to dump where u want it.
"I didn't read the instructions, obviously," said every handyman ever.
2:31:47 , me showing my mom what to buy for me 😅
I hope you did some research. Construction processes in Florida are *very* different. Why? Jungle insects and hurricanes. The considerations have almost no overlap with Ontario or the Northeast US.
1 paint 2 paint 3 paint 4 paint 5 paint 6 paint 7 paint
Any time you use putty tape clean the surface
What part of Florida is this? You’re doing an amazing job.
lake county in central florida. Cheers!
Nice. I need to buy a property there for my next project
He's cute, he's funny, he has Dewalt tools, and he can fix your house! Will you marry me, Jeff Thorman? 🤣🤣
It was dripping because there was air in te line. Remove the tip assembly and run paint through the gun back into the paint can or bucket for 1 minute or so. Pro tip.
Are canadians allowed to buy property in the USA and make repairs and updates ? are there any immigration rules to follow?
I would’ve had those windows changed by lunch without all the extra. 😂
Good for you 😅
I had a few beers when I put that comment was obviously feeling a little over confident 😂
"I work with a sharp knife, so it's not dangerous."
I hate working on older mobile homes. I own one as a rental and it can be such a frustrating endeavor.
That would be plumb on the vertical trim
Please show how to build shelves in the shed not to elaborate shelves I am thinking about doing that in the fall once it is cool
thanks
I’ve got this one: th-cam.com/video/IQCaA9_eAGg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wyQMYV8AI4s9T5Uh hope it’s helpful. Cheers
Thanks
Menn, if i think about what i have learned on this channel. Not just skill or how to do a job, but how to aproach a job and, stick to the plan! Oh, and buy a laser.
Cheers , darn right about the laser!
Should you really put level windows and siding on a mobile home that's not level?
try to make it look as level as you can. that is all you can do!
Jeff, how in the world did you end up in Florida, doing a rehab?
Got a work visa and voila! 1 year in florida! Cheers!
This looks like Spring Hill
Just an FYI those black plastic pan you are using is very flimsy they split up real easy. Ace hardware has the older style that is bigger and much stronger and economical. I use them around my farm for plants, water ,mixing potting soil and other stuff.
Incoming hurricane! Feel ready?
Why did he change out the windows? What was wrong with the old windiws?
39:26 Dupont company!? Thats that horrible Teflon company, cant believe they still exist
Nothing wrong with Dupont.
j trim was a different profile to the existing, should replaced the whole length rather than joining
You have Mud Dauber's not wasps. While they can sting they rarely ever do. They are not protective of their nests or aggressive. Their venom is not that powerful.
comforting to know. Cheers!
I am curious to know what is happening with the church? Are you still working on it? Are you still living in it? I checked the other channel for an update and was not able to find one.
getting ready to sell it. Interested. 1 bed 1 bath 4000 sq ft on 1 acre!
Please of someone knows. The windows he’s removing. I just purchased 17 from habitat. I got them for $200. I need to know how to repair them. The windows I have are brown aluminum frame. Slide up and down glass. Dry rot screens. I will replace those. But some of the Frame is loose how can I repair the frame on aluminum windows. I just want to be better prepared for the contractor.
2:03:47 where’s ya fiber my guy
You slip you slice
window .. 45 degree, bend a piece of aluminum
Are you selling your Florida hideout?
Not sure, starting to like it there!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Jeff's liking it enough that he even threw up an American flag!! We'll take you sir.
