- This project is one of the my most requested renovations from the comments section! Today I'm turning my carport into a screened-in porch/Florida room. This adds a ton of square footage and $1000's in value to my Florida trailer home. Cheers!

Im an Aluminum Specialty contractor here in Florida, this is what I do for a living, I build screen rooms, carports, pool enclosures ect, and I really enjoyed the video and your explainations, good stuff!
Appreciate that. Cheers!
This is why I am a fan of jeff for life he does his remodel in real time. I don't care if its 2 hours I be so into the video it feels like 30mins..and I love watching Jeff crunch numbers cause I suck at math
Rarely do I watch long form videos but I watched this whole thing. Well done. Informative, good tips, good sense of humor too. Glad I found this channel. 😊🙏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers!
I agree
🤣 “Perfect every time…I did not do something right; what did I do wrong? Been watching for years and I love the uncut parts.
Please share with us what are the names of the structure products and Screen products you used
I looked in the affiliate links but couldn't find anything
FYI. If you want your oil based paint to set off faster add a tiny bit of lacquer thinner to it. It will flash dry.
I have never wanted to watch complete videos before.
I am hooked on these. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Just stumbled upon this video, and it's amazing. The transformation is impressive, and the instructions are clear enough that even a beginner like me feels motivated to try it. I can totally picture myself enjoying a bug-free porch after watching this.
This has given me an idea on how to do the screen in porch/"catio" for my daughter's house. She has a nice covered patio already in place off the kitchen -she got a quote on getting it screened in and absolutely no way! $$$ bucks - we will DIY thanks to Jeff!!
I thought no see-ums only existed in the Backyardigans kids show until I met someone who lived in Florida. :P Down in Texas we have 2 sizes of mosquitoes. the ones that fly right through the screen and then the other ones that just open up the door and c'mon in. :D
I am so enjoying watching your videos. Lots of really helpful tricks of the trades.. several of my friends were in the dif trades..carpentry, drywalling, electric, plumbing. I paid attention to what they did and helped while working on an old farm house, I'm pretty capable of doing most of my own home improvements...but your very, very helpful!
By the way, the old farm house was bought for $20,000. It's value when finished is $350,000.
Brilliant design adding that door and two windows. So much classy look than just screened in wall, and more privacy in the lanai. Screened wall in mania dressed up two with the horizontal bracing.
1:21:30 FYI, that is NOT a grinder disk, that is a cutoff wheel. It should not be used the way you used it
shivering black bell and I also just finished the shower door install! Yay JEFF!!!! thumbs up!
Pro tip. Lower your laser level by 6 inchs. 39:25
Your wife is lucky. She can make you a honey do list and get creative and you would knock it out of the park.
Nothing like this Anywhere! Just Great
Nice tutorial, even better with showing your mistakes. Proof it’s DIY doable!!❤❤❤❤
Thank you! Cheers!
1:32:07 I got a pair of Vampliers - which are for sure the most expensive pliers I've ever bought - but when it comes to rusted screw heads, they are fantastic. They're basically just very sharp, very hard pliers that dig into whatever throw them on.
I am looking to do the exact same thing to my Florida home in Pinellas. Have you ever heard of anyone installing drawers in the crawlspace for extra storage?
That oopsy part was because you cut it at the "relaxed" part only. I thought you was going to measure both relxed and tight part and split the difference. We've all been there if you say you haven't you're a liar. 😂 love the channel learning tons more than then i did in construction out of high school.
Cool sumner nights? Not in florida 😂
Awesome it looks great
I see that you are in central Florida. The dumpster rental isn't far from our winter house. Many things about your house matches ours. We are in Tavares. I'm heading north next week but will be back in January. Maybe I'll see you at home Depot 😅 or harbor freight. I'm at mine seems to be at one every other day. I went a different route buying tools for down here. Estate sales and antique stores. Dirt cheap for good to great tools.
Awesome video Great work !
I just noticed the university of Tennessee "T" sticker on the door window.. Go Vols !!
You've posted this three times now and it never gets old. I missed where you, in a fit of rage, destroyed the screens and had to go back and redo them only to find out that you installed the spline backwards. Why not include that little nugget of useful information?
my husband buys harbor freight tools if it's only for 1 project - they aren't made to last but can get a non professional through a single project - those houses are sitting on concrete blocks on a slab ??? Loved this video - wondering if this construction is similar to the "sun rooms" that are glass panes that people add to their houses (??)I bet that door to the screened in patio gets a lot of use , that's where I'd enter when I'm bringing the groceries . Looks like there's a little storage shed at the back of that car port for maybe a lawnmower and other household/garden tools & supplies
Because of the sloped ceiling I think I might have gone with the same vertical pieces as the bottom after the horizontal piece you cut to fit the doors and windows.
That's a good idea.
I am doing this to my house as well. They had enclosed half of the wrap around porch and just wrapped it in metal left over from the shop and made a door out of sheeting. I have a sliding door and doggy door and am going to frame it in and side it to match the house then eventually drop in a hot tub.
very nice. Cheers!
Great job,Great video ❤
RenoNinja!!!!! You're the muthaphkn man...
Love your videos.
Instead of converting the carport/lean-to, I'd rather learn how to make one. Do you have a video on how to added a carport like this?
Not yet
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY No worries, maybe someday. We need to divert rain from exterior walls to help keep the basement dry. Located in Central Indiana
Love your videos have you ever use the grinder to cut a groove on a rusted screw 1:32:20 so you can use a flat head screwdriver that works sometimes for me and you don’t have to cut the head off
This process of building with alumin(i)um panels and cladding is such an alien concept to a Northern European person, it is absolutely fascinating to watch. Btw, I sincerely hope that the aluminium you discarded doesn't become landfill, that would be a terrible waste.
When my neighbour replaced their aluminum siding, they told me it sold as scrap metal. I guess there's a market for it because aluminum can be recycled several times over or something like that? Not sure, lol. Point is, no it doesn't all go to the landfill. I figure that's a win.
what is the name/brand of the extruded aluminum posts you're using?
You are amazing!
Appreciate that, cheers
Being in Florida and building a few of these. I would have used epoxy down in screws in the concrete .
I need you in my future project soon ❤
My wife was wondering if you were going to cut the siding to long a second time, and you did.
Nice
I see you screwed into the vertical channel along side the door. As you said, this product expands and contracts.
Safe to say that channel is likely going to be prone to buckling because the slots were not used where traditionally a screw is placed loosely?!??
The thing about Harbor Freight is that the tools are fine for a single project and then they break. But for the price, it you don't mind how poor quality they are, they get the job done.
Why did you change to vertical for the bottom?
How will it hold up during a hurricane? Have been looking at a couple of your vids. Be kind to each other. Stay safe. Love to all
So is this your vacation/airbnb rental house?
just an excuse to renovate a double wide for the channel. we will be selling it in the new year!
😂what was that you said about someone who couldn't use a measuring tape?
10:54 Safe on skin. Please show us!
Cool Summer nights? In Florida???? Not possible lol
How satisfied with the Harbor Freight $99 cut off saw were you?
it works fine for rough framing, but not as good with the mitre cuts on finish trim. Cheers!
Where is this? Can not be Canada, unless it was this summer.Oh, you said Florida. Oh, I love Florida :D
S. Florida is the French Riviera for Canadians with $$
I would be interested to know what the cost would be if you had to hire and pay for a contractor and framers.
this would easily be a 2 day job for 2 people so the cost is basically materials x4. Cheers!
I hate when screws strip and won't come out.
Was that your son that came outside with the laptop? LOL. Or is that a tablet?
What were those aluminum posts called? I wonder if I can rig something like that on my front porch but I have rounded columns. Thinking I could butt some of those things up against the posts somehow.
I'd still want cripples under those windows because I'm paranoid. LOL. Ok, you are adding cripples. LOL.
Hmm. What sort of door did you say that was?
Why not move the laser line down to the 6" below mark for the rest of the marks?
Ooh, I need some vinyl cutters like that (the large scissor looking things). What are they called and where do you find them?
I could never do vinyl siding without something behind it where I live because it would end up getting broken by cows. They like to lean on the walls sometimes. We also get hurricanes so everything has to be secured.
I need to find that sort of blade for the angle grinder as well. That can save some time.
I often forget my measurements before I can write them down so I have to measure again. LOL.I used to have a great memory. Now I have CRS. LOL.
Everyone makes mistakes. No shame in it. The siding looked fine to me so I couldn't tell that anything was wrong, but obviously up close something looked wrong.
I have metal screens so cutting them might not be so easy as cutting fiberglass ones. LOL.
Ah, so those things are called extrusions. I think you said that at the beginning but, as I said, CRS.
I'm a big fan of re-using things rather than throwing things out. I'm a bit of a hoarder so throwing things out gives me anxiety. LOL.
Glad I have a workshop because I paint things down there. The Killz paint (roll on) that I got actually dries fairly fast. But it's over a decade old and they don't make that particular paint anymore. It has held up in the plastic container really well.
If you can get the screw head out enough sometimes you can get the "mouth" of your electric screwdriver over the screw head tight enough to grab and then run it backwards to pull it out. I've had to do that several times.
When I look up kickplate all I find are the types they put on doors.
The end result looks very nice!
😂how many extra peices of siding should i buy to make the same mistakes as you did? Lol!
a full box. Cheers joe!
No cheese?! lol
That PVC drain pipe should have had holes down.
Reupload?
I can't believe you don't have a laser measuring tool
when i find one that works that isn't more than 30 bucks i will get one.
No cheese or bacon? Tell us you’re not an American without telling us you’re not an American!
I thought he was Canadian.
Wow, I mean I would basically starve!
And this is why 40% of Americans are obese lmao
31:11
just working on loosing a bunch of weight. down 25 ibs from the last project already
❤❤❤❤❤❤💯
So, what about the car?
Canadian aa?
Increase , or do, Fish Oil.
Dude is always winded 😂 and tired
No sees, chiggers and oak mites. You never see them coming..
very true. until they bite!
Recycle the aluminum! You will be surprised the amount you will get for it.
There are so many ads that this is almost unwatchable. Too bad as this looks interesting.
Did you retire and start snowbirding? I've been off TH-cam for a good while, I guess. Enjoy!
Got a work visa to get the experience. Next project house will be back in Canada! Cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY enjoy your time stateside 😊
No cheese? What the hell.
Why would you screen in your porch? Sincerely, 90277
Personally, losing a carport would be a dealbreaker as a house buyer. It looks good, don't get me wrong, but it might reduce your market.
still have space to park a car. Cheers!
I thought you where Canadian what’s with the American flag hang
Bc the trailer is in FL and he is showing respect
So he moved to Florida so he could live in a mobile home park? Seriously?
@@JonathanRootD This is another reno job for him lol it's not his main residence.
@JonathanRootD 1st alot of people from Canada have 2nd homes in warmer areas ie snowbirds 2nd u obviously didn't watch until the end bc he literally says he its a flip project with a 20k budget and he is going to shoe how much return on investment u can make SMH
When in Rome... My Florida house is in a mobile home Park. Many mobile home parks in Florida are not like mobile home parks up north. They are decent places to live for the winter, or full time. My park is very nice homes are well kept. But my park prices are closer to 150-180 now off the water, on the canals water front , 300k +.
GIRL WTH LIKE THIS COMMENT IF U DONT BELIVE HER 😂😂😂😂
You don't throw aluminum away you cash it in please don't tell me you've been throwing it away
Its not $1200, labor will cost a lot more..
First
Noone does that any more 😅
@@UsernameUnkwn21 I just did
cheers for being first!
I don't think you can call it a screened in porch since bugs can easily get inside it. The bugs from the outside can go under your house and into the screened area by just going through the concrete screen blocks. Better to just call it a terrarium.
You keep saying level when you should be saying plumb..
Its my thing. I call it level whenever i use a level. Cheers!
Shucks !!!!Paw!!!
Just turn it into an Airbnb and get rich retire early😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Stupid covid vaccine ad every few minutes made this video to painful to watch. I’ll try another day.
Why did you put such a ugly door? You only needed a screen door. I wonder about you.
wanted to have a little privacy from the street when I will be sitting outside.
No cheese on your burger? Brother I'll show you the way back to Canada. Unsubscribed!
