Bought a 1998 ES300. I sold it in 2012 with 287,778 miles to a kid for $500. He told me he has 400,000 miles + on it. The reliability of these automobiles are insane.
After having my Mercedes towed by the same tow truck driver 3 times, he told me the only car I don’t tow is a Lexus. This was in 2000. I haven’t driven anything else since then and with the two,RXs I’ve owned in that time, I never replaced a single light bulb in the car or brakes.
The reason for the name change being taken as a personal inst was because it literally was. The Toyoda family were the CEO's and chairman of the company.

I have owned 4 Lexus vehicles, and I WILL NEVER BUY another brand ever again. It is comfortable, bullet proof, excellent resale value. You can buy a brand new Lexus for $50k, drive for 5 years, paid it off, and still sell it for $25k. My only complaint about Lexus is the performance (hp, handling, road feel, feedback) needs to go up a couple of notches.
Only one thing kept Lexus from consistently competing with the Germans. Lexus kept under-powering their so called high performance cars. The Lexus LFA was underpowered from the get go! It should have had at least 650 hp and ran 0-60 in the high 2 sec’s! And a high 10 sec 1/4 mile! Now those kind of performance numbers would have catapulted the LFA above Godzilla (GTR) and able to compete with it to this day! For its staring price of $375K it should of had straight line performance third to the Ferraris and Porches! But instead Lexus chose the safe road and is nearly put out to pasture competing against the Germans on the serious performance level where the really rich Ballers are and play year end and year out! For instance; the GSF and GS350 F Sport vehicles should have had 500 plus hp for the GSF and the GS350 F Sport should have had 350hp from the get go and increased power every 1-3 yrs like BMW did! Hands down! But they didn’t because they were too busy protecting/guarding their profit and quality margins! And to this day Lexus has fallen seriously behind the Germans again because they are too stubborn and traditional. Maybe now that Akio Toyoda has unfortunately, but maybe fortunately, stepped down (obviously he was tired of the ongoing fight to get those old board members to change their way of thinking) and the new Brass and young Sato will bring it to the Germans! BMW should be their target! BMW is the overall King of German high performance automobiles and SUV’s second only to Porsche (Stock high performance vehicles)! Period. Hands down! Akio Toyoda knows this! And Akio loved BMW’s growing up as a young college student in America and knew they to this day they (BMW) have the top engineers and designers second only to his Toyota Co. (BMW’s quality control Dept is politically controlled, but that too is changing rapidly! This may be due to the Toyota and BMW joint engineering oversee of the BMW B58 used in the Toyota Supra and other wicked BMW’s powered by that and the S58 straight six Beastly natures!). If BMW ever gets their quality control dialed in, it’s game over for even Mercedes! 😳

LFA is one of Lexus's greatest creations! An Engineering marvel.. What set it back was the long period that they took to produce the car! Still the best sounding V8 out there!
No Lexus documentary should skip the GS400, which was the first sports sedan for the brand , and the fastest full size sedan in the world when introduced in 1998.

@@jonlee580 maybe your cousin had a broken GS400 (if it’s actually possible to break it), as the 750 rated as 6.7 seconds to 60. It also had less power and I believe more weight. The E39 M5 introduced a bit after the GS400, and was a lot faster, but the previous M5 was slower.

Funny how Lexus never appealed to me as a luxury car. It always seems to be yet another boring middle class car. But maybe that’s because I’m Dutch and in The Netherlands. It doesn’t’ strike me as a very successful brand here.
Have you even driven both? BMW's driving dynamics and drive train will impress over a Lexus most of the time. Not to say Lexus is inferior, they just both target goals differently, albeit impressively.

I have been a proud Lexus owner for many years. My experience has always been great without issues from any Lexus of owned. Had: 1996 LS400, 2006 LS430, 2010 RX350 and 2017 GS-F. All excellent cars.
I eventually bought the ls430 but I also had Toyota prius. By that time, I was so used to good gas milesage, LS 430 sucks too much gas even though I loved the car, I felt that it was gas guzzler... I dumped the car since I was getting like 17 -19 miles per gallon... Far lower than 50 miles per gallon with Prius. Two years ago I bought Lexus RX 450H, byrid because my experience with LS430. I highly recommend to buy hybrid due to economic of gas mileage. I am happy with gas mileage and comfort and qualify of the car. I bought used (2015 year with only 30,0000 miles) but had not car trouble issues.. :)

Thanks for the video. Bought my first Lexus IS 300 in 2005 and ever since, all I buy is Toyota products. I though they were overrated vehicles , boy I was wrong . I work selling cars from all brands and in 15 years, Toyota has proven to be the #1 brand with the least amount of problems.
Still stuck with a '98 Lx470 with over 200k. Decided to part way with it a few times, but had to do one last drive before letting go. The question that kept arising is why do I need to sell it? There's nothing wrong with it.
Aaaah I remember those polish dealerships and also the "Taste of Lexus" event they use to have ever year in the late 90's in the DC area. They brought all of there cars and all of the competitors and let you drive all of them to show just how good theirs were. They even had complimentary dinning, live jazz band, the whole dog and pony show. Those were the days lol.
You should correct your video. Japanese vehicles in the 70's actually were not better built then American cars. They were actually pretty bad and rusted easily. The quality improvements came later as they connected with J.D. Powers to help them improve actual and perceptual quality. Japanese cars came into prominence because gas went up to a staggering 55 cents a gallon from about 35-40 cents as there was a gas shortage at the time. The domestics didn't have cars to combat that so their European brands were homologated to U.S. specs along with new body designs to help create small cars to compete. Eventually RWD died in favor of FWD low fuel consumption engines and then performance died. Please get the facts right on this as it is makes American manufactures look inept. I will agree that the domestics miss the mark on making smaller gas sipping engines but who new the gas crisis was coming. In Japan, small cars was pretty much all they had. I'm sure the Japanese couldn't believe their luck. You should also look at VW's Rabbit and Golf cars rise in the U.S. as well. Keep in mind this was all in the time frame of about 1973 to 1978.
I am 64 years of age and I have to admit I have never owned a Lexus. On the other hand, I have owned many different cars and trucks and motorcycles from many manufacturers. I can tell you that by and large the Japanese manufacturers don’t treat the passenger, the same way they treat the driver. One of the reasons that American trucks are so popular is that they give the same amount of attention to the passengers amenities as they do the drivers. In many Japanese cars, even the top-tier models, the driver gets a seat that adjusts in many different ways and the passenger will get a seat that goes forwards and backwards and with the back of the seat going from sitting up to laying back. I am now on disability and this fact has been sorely brought home to me. I can’t speak for Tesla for I haven’t been able to afford one and probably will not be able to. So I hope manufacturers will take this to heart without making it a $3000 option.
I am your age and just bought an Acura MDX Advance. I tell you, some car god must have heard you and told Honda. The passenger seat has all the adjustments the driver’s seat has, including heated and ventilated and 3 position memory.
The funniest thing is in my Factory where we make parts for military vehicles almost every car park outside is a Toyota!!! I have a Prius with 300,000 thousand miles and you can’t even hear te engine.!!! I’m buying a new Toyota 4 Runner but, theirs no way I’m selling my Prius !!!that car is family now.!!!
I’m in the process of moving away from European cars. Sold a V-8 powered five series BMW. I bought the last RX 350 that came to my state because I had no desire for anything with a four-cylinder TwinTurbo set up. Even from Lexus. One more BMW will go by the wayside in order to get my wife into an all wheel drive V6 powered Lexus sedan. No more Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche vehicles for my family 👍🏻
You kill foreign luxury by making it reliable and AFFORDABLE for everyone to buy. In a world of red light and speeding cameras we don't need cars with crazy amounts of horsepower and torque.
This car scared the competition.And as if the LS400 didn't alone scare the crap out of rivals, Toyota then emulated and applied the new standards, stamping and tooling advancements, tolerances and built the 1992 XV10 Camry to Lexus standards, emulating the design language, proportions and bubble shape of the LS400, as did the 1993 AE101 Corolla. The idea of applying industry-benchmark standards to a mid-segment midsize family car and compact economy car was absolutely insane. The models had to be decontented in later generations, making those gen Camry/Corolla unicorns. When competitors saw Toyota apply the influences of engineering to their mainstream non luxury products, they sh*t themselves. The XV10 is what set Camry's reputation, and the reputation and best-selling status is credited to the UCF10 LS400 influences of the 3rd gen, in looks and standards. People wanting a "poor-man's LS400". It is incredible how revolutionary this car truly was. When people bash Lexus for looking like a "fancy Camry" what they don't understand is the Lexus was a completely bespoke flagship, and by leading the entire corporation to Toyota, the redesigns of the mainstream cars were influenced by the LS400, so the resemblance is reverse of how people think. Lexus is the greatest Luxury car brand ever existed. From Luxury, resale value, RELIABILITY, comfort, design and technology. I’m now on my second Lexus and will always drive a Lexus. I refuse to give my hard earned money to crappy German cars that breaks down the moment you drive it off the lot.
So where did this Billion Dollar gamble go. From the past decade it has just been updating their older versions. I found nothing revolutionary happening in the Lexus Brand, why are they just being so lazy. Only a hand full customers for Murais Off course in this era of downsizing, they are developing their New Hydrogen fuel cell Murai 2.0 but still in the testing phase. They didn't do anything after the LFA failure, i was expecting the LFA 2.0 but they are still not talking as of now.

At one stage, Lexus had the IS-F, an M3 rival. Not quite as good as the M3, but pretty damn close. It's a shame they didn't make a successor to that.

I dumped the car since I was getting like 17 -19 miles per gallon... Far lower than 50 miles per gallon with Prius. Two years ago I bought Lexus RX 450H, byrid because my experience with LS430. I highly recommend to buy hybrid due to economic of gas mileage. I am happy with gas mileage and comfort and qualify of the car. I bought used (2015 year with only 30,0000 miles) but had not car trouble issues.. :)

Thanks for the video. Bought my first Lexus IS 300 in 2005 and ever since, all I buy is Toyota products. I though they were overrated vehicles , boy I was wrong . I work selling cars from all brands and in 15 years, Toyota has proven to be the #1 brand with the least amount of problems.

Aaaah I remember those polish dealerships and also the "Taste of Lexus" event they use to have ever year in the late 90's in the DC area. They brought all of there cars and all of the competitors and let you drive all of them to show just how good theirs were. They even had complimentary dinning, live jazz band, the whole dog and pony show. Those were the days lol.
You should correct your video. Japanese vehicles in the 70's actually were not better built then American cars. They were actually pretty bad and rusted easily. The quality improvements came later as they connected with J.D. Powers to help them improve actual and perceptual quality. Japanese cars came into prominence because gas went up to a staggering 55 cents a gallon from about 35-40 cents as there was a gas shortage at the time. The domestics didn't have cars to combat that so their European brands were homologated to U.S. specs along with new body designs to help create small cars to compete. Eventually RWD died in favor of FWD low fuel consumption engines and then performance died. Please get the facts right on this as it is makes American manufactures look inept. I will agree that the domestics miss the mark on making smaller gas sipping engines but who new the gas crisis was coming. In Japan, small cars was pretty much all they had. I'm sure the Japanese couldn't believe their luck. You should also look at VW's Rabbit and Golf cars rise in the U.S. as well. Keep in mind this was all in the time frame of about 1973 to 1978.

I am 64 years of age and I have to admit I have never owned a Lexus. On the other hand, I have owned many different cars and trucks and motorcycles from many manufacturers. I can tell you that by and large the Japanese manufacturers don’t treat the passenger, the same way they treat the driver. One of the reasons that American trucks are so popular is that they give the same amount of attention to the passengers amenities as they do the drivers. In many Japanese cars, even the top-tier models, the driver gets a seat that adjusts in many different ways and the passenger will get a seat that goes forwards and backwards and with the back of the seat going from sitting up to laying back. I am now on disability and this fact has been sorely brought home to me. I can’t speak for Tesla for I haven’t been able to afford one and probably will not be able to. So I hope manufacturers will take this to heart without making it a $3000 option.
I am your age and just bought an Acura MDX Advance. I tell you, some car god must have heard you and told Honda. The passenger seat has all the adjustments the driver’s seat has, including heated and ventilated and 3 position memory.

I’m in the process of moving away from European cars. Sold a V-8 powered five series BMW. I bought the last RX 350 that came to my state because I had no desire for anything with a four-cylinder TwinTurbo set up. Even from Lexus. One more BMW will go by the wayside in order to get my wife into an all wheel drive V6 powered Lexus sedan. No more Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche vehicles for my family 👍🏻

You kill foreign luxury by making it reliable and AFFORDABLE for everyone to buy. In a world of red light and speeding cameras we don't need cars with crazy amounts of horsepower and torque.

This car scared the competition.And as if the LS400 didn't alone scare the crap out of rivals, Toyota then emulated and applied the new standards, stamping and tooling advancements, tolerances and built the 1992 XV10 Camry to Lexus standards, emulating the design language, proportions and bubble shape of the LS400, as did the 1993 AE101 Corolla. The idea of applying industry-benchmark standards to a mid-segment midsize family car and compact economy car was absolutely insane. The models had to be decontented in later generations, making those gen Camry/Corolla unicorns. When competitors saw Toyota apply the influences of engineering to their mainstream non luxury products, they sh*t themselves. The XV10 is what set Camry's reputation, and the reputation and best-selling status is credited to the UCF10 LS400 influences of the 3rd gen, in looks and standards. People wanting a "poor-man's LS400". It is incredible how revolutionary this car truly was. When people bash Lexus for looking like a "fancy Camry" what they don't understand is the Lexus was a completely bespoke flagship, and by leading the entire corporation to Toyota, the redesigns of the mainstream cars were influenced by the LS400, so the resemblance is reverse of how people think. People that believe Lexus is a rip off are not mechanical engineers. I am a Lean process and Mechanical engineer. This car inspired me to become a mechanical/aerospace engineer

Lexus is the greatest Luxury car brand ever existed. From Luxury, resale value, RELIABILITY, comfort, design and technology. I’m now on my second Lexus and will always drive a Lexus. I refuse to give my hard earned money to crappy German cars that breaks down the moment you drive it off the lot.
So where did this Billion Dollar gamble go. From the past decade it has just been updating their older versions. I found nothing revolutionary happening in the Lexus Brand, why are they just being so lazy. Only a hand full customers for Murais Off course in this era of downsizing, they are developing their New Hydrogen fuel cell Murai 2.0 but still in the testing phase. They didn't do anything after the LFA failure, i was expecting the LFA 2.0 but they are still not talking as of now.
