Very good and simple demonstration. I would use Woodenware for stiring on metal or non stick pans though. Particularly non stick pans. It is not recommended using metal stirring spoons etc, as this scratches the Teflon (which is already toxic). For the sensitivity to listeners who may not like the sound of metal stirring on metal, Woodenware would be less noisy to sensitive ears. As it may sound like running ones fingernails down a blackboard! Otherwise, I am trying and enjoying making this recipe now😊. Thank you 👏

Made this today as its one of my favourite foods, i have been over complicating all my curries and usually they all come out tasting the same, (which im bored of) so it was nice trying it simplified and it worked perfectly . I used too much salt and didn’t brown my garlic enough. But at least i know for next time, thanks for your video though it made me feel like i could attempt this. 😊

Ahh.. I see! The only dhal that I make on a masala base is channa dhal and split black gram (urad). The rest are all made as the shown in the video. Well I'm glad you tried the recipe and it was relatively easy to make!
Nice video. Dhal soup, our favourite. I sometimes go 50/50 using red split lentils. Please, please get some non metallic for your frying pan. It was going straight through me😅

Hi Nazia, I would say anything between 10 - 15mins in a pressure cooker. It may little longer but I guess it's trial and error. I've made other lentils like kidney beans in a pressure cooker and they've taken literally 10mins. Aww thank you so much, glad to hear the Kebabs went down a treat! 😊
Hi, Ive yet to try this, have all the ingredients but Im concerned for the butter (high cholesterol) do you think 3/4olive oil 1/4 butter for the lovely taste would work as well?

As you know food costs are spiralling out of control, do you have a name/link for an online supermarket thats a reasonable price in/around your area I could order in bulk from. Asli Atta, oil, dried pulses etc. I live in the outer sticks of Somerset. Lovely to look at but few shops of any sort. Id be so grateful as I dont know where to start.
Hey no worries, if im honest the COL has gone up everywhere, even online. Dried beans and pulses are really not that expensive even in your local supermarket as they're 1kg packs which you won't use all at once so I guess they're value for money, same with the rice bags too. I'm afraid I don't buy online as the prices are the same as the local supermarkets. Hope that helps 😊👍
Different dhals take different amounts of water. I wouldn't be able to tell you just at the top of my head but the beauty about dhal is if you put to much water in it won't spoil the dish as you can just cook it down completely! 😁

Is always necessary for us to soak lentils due to tummy issues; also, decreases this gas on those with bowel/intestinal gas issues. Do you recommend that the lentils be thoroughly washed & then soaked at least for 20 minutes minimum prior to cooking? Or is it straight into the pan with the boiled water? Kindly advise please. Thanks for your comment. I normally soak hard lentils and beans like kidney beans, urad dhal and dried chickpeas as they require pre soaking to re hydrate to ensure quicker cooking. Moong dhal I don't normally soak as it cooks quickly. I hope this helps.
Good job as always, just missing I feel a bit of explanation about what kind of Mung bean to buy would be cool as this will vary, you are using Indian Mung beans but there are a lot of varieties. This kinda threw me when I went into Wiki to straighten it out, then halfway down they showed pics of the varieties. I would just say to bear in mind a lot of us fellas are taking our first step into the kitchen and can get confused with terms experienced cooks take for granted. Hugs!!
How much water was that in ml? I have a cup here at 237 mil, but that looks like way more than 1l of water? Im trying to follow the recipe right now lol
I had to add more water at 30 mins, then more water, the daal didn’t dissolve, I doing something wrong? Are you meant to keep on stirring during the 45 mins?
Different brands sometimes require more water and cooking time, just like rice. You haven't done anything wrong. I stir mine occasionally during the cook.
I would not recommend knives for stirring into a non stick pan. The pan won’t last long. The sound of it when playing the video is also a pain for the ears 😉.
My husband calls me the forgetful chef as I always miss something, and in this case yes I forgot to add it in, but I did put it in at 6:10 of the video :)
Why not wash/rinsh your lentils as the water went immediately cloudy when your stirred. And get a sharper knife to take the teflon off of the bottom of the once non-stick frying pan as it adds to the flavour! Close the gas on an electric hob? And your ingredient list said garam masala, but you almost forgot it. Did it need cooking? I've got the ingredients, wish me luck.
Hi Steve, the lentils were washed and ah yes 😂 the knife and the pan! Lesson learnt. No the garam masala is added just for garnishing and flavour right at the end of the cook, so doesn't need to be cooked.
Turns gas off at 5.00, induction hob goes off, confusing.🤔🤔🤔 I always find the forever chemicals scraped off the bottom of the pan always add to the flavour.

I don't see why not, its worth trying - its a great dish - although virgin olive oil is very strong in flavour, so worth considering.

How long do you need to soak this dal for prior to cooking?
I don't usually soak moong dhal but you could if you wanted to. Minimum 1 hour or overnight.

Hi Anisha, not for this particular Daal. This is because I feel it overpowers the taste. You may if you wish add onions.

I think I will use Ghee instead of Butter
I would not recommend knives for stirring into a non stick pan. The pan won’t last long. The sound of it when playing the video is also a pain for the ears 😉.

Right at the end. Garam masala is added to finish the dish off. Never at the beginning.

Why not wash/rinsh your lentils as the water went immediately cloudy when your stirred.
And get a sharper knife to take the teflon off of the bottom of the once non-stick frying pan as it adds to the flavour!

Hi Steve, the lentils were washed and ah yes 😂 the knife and the pan! Lesson learnt. No the garam masala is added just for garnishing and flavour right at the end of the cook, so doesn't need to be cooked.
Yes, wonderful recipe l love the channel but you must not use metal utensils on non-stick pans. You want to taste the food and not the teflon!
