I actually knew people in university (circa 2013) who would arrive at college never having smoked cigarettes before, and literally _started_ doing it then just for "the aesthetic". They really weren't the brightest bunch at all. None of them realized how much they'd grow to regret it, how difficult it would be to quit, and how much they were harming their own bodies. It's the 21st century, for Christ's sake. We really should know better than this.
A lot of models actually smoke because it reduces their desire to eat, which makes them slimmer for their photos. Besides the "cool" aesthetic of cigarettes, that might be part of the explanation.

This was really chilling to watch. A marvelous performance by Katie, and solid all around. I like that the cast took this sketch seriously. That was me, I dealt with the duality of Taking care of my physically and dieting. Yet I also adored Heroin...I would tell my parents it is NOT supposed to make sense. Luckily I wasn't a Poly Drug user. But Heroin was bad enough -.-
The BEST anti-drug message my children ever witnessed was when they would go with my to visit my brother. He was a chronic alcoholic, and he was developing an addiction to oxycontin. It was agonizing for me to watch Michael slowly die, but for my children it was educational and (in retrospect) maybe a tiny bit traumatizing. Everytime we left his apartment I would tell my children, "THAT is what drugs and alcohol will do to you." And, they made it through high school without drinking or smoking.
Depending on just how young they were, I would say seeing their uncle slowly deteriorate at his own hands would be a lot more than just “slightly traumatizing”

They knew what was going on, and they learned early about the dangers of alcohol abuse. There was one kinda funny incident. My youngest son overheard me telling someone that Mike had been "hitting the bottle pretty hard during Christmas." He thought that Mike had literally been punching a bottle. He was concerned that Mike might hurt himself if the bottle broke so he asked him about. He was pissed that I was talking about him so I said, "Well then get some help so I have nothing to talk about." I could tell them about the dangers of drinking, but they saw firsthand what happens when you get addicted.

probably because it is normal; now with all this fad about being a "healthy nut", detox and "all-organic, all natural, no gluten no fat no water no anything" foods, it's like they focus on that, instead of, you know, leaving the drugs. My aunt is one of those people, jogs up a small mountain every weekend, does cycling three days a week, eats all natural, all fruits and veggies and almost no meat- and yet, chain-smokes like she is in death row. At this point, lung or throat cancer will get to her before she reaches her 60s.
Because many of us know at least one person like this. I can name several I know that act like this. Not quite to this extreme but they still smoke and drink or do molly while going hiking every day

I have ulcerative colitis and I lost my colon in 2013 after I bled internally for 5 years. it was so frustrating having family and friends tell me what I would've done about a freaking autoimmune disease as they threw them back or smoked or whatever. and no lie, this happened - I was in the hospital for a blood transfusion. I have a port in my chest because my veins are shot from so much medical intervention. my roommate was repeat detoxing junkie and asked me how to get a port because it "looked so much easier" and people wouldn't find out she was shooting up! oye vey!
I've met way too many people like this to count. Like my old roommate who talked about how doing yoga and being vegan are the greatest thing you can do for your body and your community, but he was also an alcoholic who smoked a pack a day.

There's someone who went to the same school and was in the same year as me when I was a teenager (who I was never friends with) that I would describe as a vegan-nazi; perpetually preaching to everyone on Facebook, constantly talking about being a "clean and pure human being", claiming to be the authority on morality, peace, and love, saying that people who get "caught up in petty squabbles and drama" are silly children, and calling anyone who eats anything other than plants and tofu "monsters"...but then she also repeatedly boasts about how much MDMA she takes at the weekend, goes out clubbing 5 times a week (despite having a kid that was born when she was 15 - whilst at I was at school with her), sincerely calling for the genocide of people who don't have "strong genes" because they "are no use to humanity", and the second she hears someone has been criticising her, she literally threatens to beat the shit out of them and makes FB statuses telling the person that she is outside in the car waiting for them outside the person's house. Also, when someone pointed the hypocrisy out, she went on a Facebook rant claiming that taking MDMA is "totally fine" and - like the video - claimed that it "unlocked portions" of her mind that "the government and media keep closed off through propaganda". She also informed the person that she was going to park outside their house and wait for them to leave so she could beat them up with her older brothers. What a gem.
I know a few people who think they're better than everyone because they go to the gym all the time and eat healthy, but then they smoke and drink. That's after criticising others for their fast food addictions, btw

This was really chilling to watch. A marvelous performance by Katie, and solid all around. I like that the cast took this sketch seriously. They seemed genuinely uncomfortable looking at Katie's character, and even Grant's sarcasm was a subdued sort of disappointment, rather than the over the topness he usually brings.
Someone in that cast had someone like this close to them, I'd wager. Probably won't see this comment, but just in case: I'm sorry. It's hard knowing someone needs help, and not knowing how to help them, and something like this is heartbreaking.

The BEST anti-drug message my children ever witnessed was when they would go with my to visit my brother. He was a chronic alcoholic, and he was developing an addiction to oxycontin. It was agonizing for me to watch Michael slowly die, but for my children it was educational and (in retrospect) maybe a tiny bit traumatizing. Everytime we left his apartment I would tell my children, "THAT is what drugs and alcohol will do to you." And, they made it through high school without drinking or smoking.
Depending on just how young they were, I would say seeing their uncle slowly deteriorate at his own hands would be a lot more than just “slightly traumatizing”
@@bellav9221 I explained his issues honestly with my children. I didn't want to give them any BS like "Your uncle is sick today." They knew what was going on, and they learned early about the dangers of alcohol abuse. There was one kinda funny incident. My youngest son overheard me telling someone that Mike had been "hitting the bottle pretty hard during Christmas." He thought that Mike had literally been punching a bottle. He was concerned that Mike might hurt himself if the bottle broke so he asked him about. He was pissed that I was talking about him so I said, "Well then get some help so I have nothing to talk about." I could tell them about the dangers of drinking, but they saw firsthand what happens when you get addicted.

probably because it is normal; now with all this fad about being a "healthy nut", detox and "all-organic, all natural, no gluten no fat no water no anything" foods, it's like they focus on that, instead of, you know, leaving the drugs. My aunt is one of those people, jogs up a small mountain every weekend, does cycling three days a week, eats all natural, all fruits and veggies and almost no meat- and yet, chain-smokes like she is in death row. At this point, lung or throat cancer will get to her before she reaches her 60s.

story of my life. I have ulcerative colitis and I lost my colon in 2013 after I bled internally for 5 years. it was so frustrating having family and friends tell me what I would've done about a freaking autoimmune disease as they threw them back or smoked or whatever.
and no lie, this happened - I was in the hospital for a blood transfusion. I have a port in my chest because my veins are shot from so much medical intervention. my roommate was repeat detoxing junkie and asked me how to get a port because it "looked so much easier" and people wouldn't find out she was shooting up! oye vey!

There's someone who went to the same school and was in the same year as me when I was a teenager (who I was never friends with) that I would describe as a vegan-nazi; perpetually preaching to everyone on Facebook, constantly talking about being a "clean and pure human being", claiming to be the authority on morality, peace, and love, saying that people who get "caught up in petty squabbles and drama" are silly children, and calling anyone who eats anything other than plants and tofu "monsters"...but then she also repeatedly boasts about how much MDMA she takes at the weekend, goes out clubbing 5 times a week (despite having a kid that was born when she was 15 - whilst at I was at school with her), sincerely calling for the genocide of people who don't have "strong genes" because they "are no use to humanity", and the second she hears someone has been criticising her, she literally threatens to beat the shit out of them and makes FB statuses telling the person that she is outside in the car waiting for them outside the person's house. Also, when someone pointed the hypocrisy out, she went on a Facebook rant claiming that taking MDMA is "totally fine" and - like the video - claimed that it "unlocked portions" of her mind that "the government and media keep closed off through propaganda". She also informed the person that she was going to park outside their house and wait for them to leave so she could beat them up with her older brothers. What a gem.
