I know you'll probably never see this, but I wrote you a letter when I was around 11 or 12 and got your CD. I listened to it until the disc was so worn. I wrote you a letter and painted a watercolor 🌹. In my youth group during 9/11 we constantly went back to sing Hands. Fast forward to today I am 35 and still struggling to find myself. This song was so pivotal these last few months acknowledging the hurt and dysfunction in my family and how I resonate with these words after the birth of my 3rd son. Singing your songs helps me mend and heal these literal and figiurtive wounds. Thank you for sharing your gifts and talents with the world.

I need to tell you I'm from a verbally and physically abusive home to the extreme and my dad was a severe alcoholic. I'm 72 now. I was stripped of my self esteem and so we're my siblings. Somehow we have all found our path in life for the good. I lost a brother and sister from suicide. One sister died from cancer at 40 and she wanted to live. I was a mess after I got married, 19. I didn't even know it until my father in law went into treatment. I decided to go to family days. The first day I knew I needed help. The counselors picked me out with no hesitation. I've been talking ever since. I divorced after 20 years of hell. I gave it 3 years of counseling. I was changing but my spouse was hanging on tight to his controlling behavior, verbal and physical abuse. I owned and operated my own business for 25 years after that. I went to beauty college. I loved every minute of it. I have 3 wonderful children that are thriving in their lives that are helping other people in society and are successful. I was a "caretaker" all my life. I have fibromyalgia, chronic pain and arthritis now. I had to retire early and have been on disability ever since I just couldn't keep working anymore. I worked another 5 years after my Drs told me I needed to stop working. I just wouldn't give up that easily. I live alone now. All my life I've wanted to have someone stable in my life that would give a relationship 100% - 100%. It didn't ever happen. I have so many health issues now I wouldn't put myself out there anymore. I lived under so much stress until I started my journey to find myself. And to love myself. It's not selfish at all to love yourself at all. I had to find it within myself. Am I lonely? Yeah! But I am lonelier in a relationship where I am doing the majority of the emotional work. I am just touching the surface of my life here. You are young yet, don't settle for less than who you are. If that 'someone'is not familiar with the emotional work, for God's sake, RUN!!! You can't change a tigers stripes!!! And you are definitely not alone!!! Remember that. God bless ❣️
Life is never going to be perfect, but keep looking forward. If we didn't make mistakes we wouldn't learn from them. And learning from other people's mistakes is also a learning tool 🙂

"I am the accumulation of the dreams of generations..."
I've had a crush on Jewel for nearly thirty years now, but that line cuts deep. My grandfather fought in Bastogne in Belgium. His father before him cleared the land that now provides income to me and my sons. "Such sacrifice..." No longer do I see her as a pretty girl with a lovely voice, but an artist that really gets it. She's an artist with an understanding that few possess.
    Stop making me cry.

I thought I'd be bringing you back to your house, but it was time for you to go home. I'm completely lost right now. But, I know what you would want me and my children to do. I bawl my eyes out every time I watch this video. My Dad was a musician and I remember the days spent in local joints in AZ. Precious memories to me now. My husband was born and raised here in Homer (well Seward because at the time there was no hospital here) and I’ve loved sharing this video with him and him telling me the names of your aunts. Such great history.

After reading Jewel's book I appreciated them even more. She taught me family is a blessing.

My daddy passed on 12/04/15 I miss him, the dementia is the worst. I'm my father's daughter and have his eyes. He was 87 and born 1929 year the Great Depression started. He worked hard all his life to give me the things he never had. But the biggest thing was his love, patience and understanding 💓

My Dad died at 64, when I was 32 years old. My Mom 5 years earlier. Many times I miss them so much and sad they didn't have the chance to get to know my children. Deep down, though, sometimes, I'm grateful they didn't get too old and got dementia. I understand how painful that can be. Even more so than having dead parents.
