This is the last song my dad sent to me, he died from COVID yesterday evening. He loved Eddie Vedder so much, thank you so much for what you do and thank you for making my best friend so happy.

I’m 62 years old and I have two daughters from my first marriage. I don’t get to see them as much as I would like to but I love them both so very much that it hurts sometimes. I also have two stepdaughter’s almost the same ages as my girls and I see one fairly often as she lives in the same city as me now. I miss my girls every day. I have Alzheimer’s disease now which, so far, is robbing me of current, short term memory but leaves most long term memories intact. I’m fading and wish I could see my daughters more but they know I love them and they are strong women.
Praying for you my brother! 😢 I’m 52 and have a 22&26 yo daughter’s. My oldest lives 10 minutes away I I see her few times a week, the younger on lives with her mom and is doing her student teaching. Both have associates and Bachelors degrees! I am blessed to have them in my life! But I fear the end isn’t far away and I am really struggling with it. Seeing them helps.
My grandma has also Alzheimer and I've always been very close to her. I miss a lot of things about her that have been lost but it still remains in her the memory of me after 9 years since the diagnosis and for me that's the important thing, that I can still spend time with her. I'm sorry for you pal. I just can say to you that, despite that is a cruel desease, the love for your daughters will stay in your memory. I hope that you can spend time with your family more often. I wish you the best 🙏
I hope you can find solace in the moment you're living in right now. Although your memory may fade in time, right now you know that you've had those memories with your daughters. Right now you know that those moments, those memories, and shared experiences will never cease to exist. Those moments, memories, and shared experiences already happened, and thus they will forever be a part of you and who you are. It doesn't matter if you one day do not remember. Those times are still there.

I am the oldest of an all girl family. My Dad was an only child. He knew NOTHING about raising girls. I love this song for the pure feeling I still have of my Dad 32 years after his passing. My great aunt looked at me this last Christmas and said: "My goodness, you're so beautiful. You reflect your Dad so much." I said thank you, that's the kindest words I have ever heard. And I meant it. God bless all the Daddy's girls in their 70's. You never get over losing your Dad. Love 'em while you've got 'em. I didn't get to say goodbye to my Daddy, but say hi Daddy every morning. He served our Nation and I could not be prouder of him to this very day.
I love the story of how Olivia became the singer to this song, which Eddie wrote There was a female pro singer pegged to sing it, but when Eddie brought it to Sean he had Olivia sing it as a simple demo. Olivia shyly sang it and Sean loved the youthful vulnerability in her voice and went with Olivia's version in the movie. Great choice!

He was always there. Always picked up the phone. I miss that a lot now and it’s been a huge adjustment. That being said I hear you. My dad wasn’t emotionally there for me much either. I just listened to this for the first time and I’m bawling like a baby. I’m currently taking care of my elderly parents who both have dementia. My dad is 88 and his lifelong best friend’s funeral was yesterday. I know I don’t have him much longer, and I have always been a daddy‘s girl. In some ways he treated me like a “princess,” but he certainly didn’t put me on a satin pillow: he taught me how to do things for myself (yeah, I got a barely-used Camaro for my 16th birthday, but before I could ever drive it by myself I had to prove to him I could change the tire completely by myself, no help from him besides words... things like that), to have a spine, and he also showed me a good example of a husband and father. I don’t know how life will ever be the same when he’s gone. It’s hard enough losing him day by day to dementia.
Life won't ever be the same when he's gone, but he lives on in you - in everything that he taught you and the love he gave you. Hold on to those things - precious and priceless. Always live your life honouring his lessons. Much love to you from Australia xxx

BIG gratitude to all of you Dad's who did your best, stuck around, protected your daughters, loved them, didn't hurt them, regardless of your flaws or personal demons (which we Mom's have also). There are no coincidences in life, only synchronicities. This song and the movie came to me at a time in my life where I crave the ability to truly forgive my father, the burdens projected by mother onto me, and his struggle with the bottle. He died when I was 24. I had two older brothers who served in Vietnam, and they weren't drafted. The went to get away from my dad. Still, I know he was just another fallen human. The human journey is about us all falling eventually, making us see we are just one. Anyway this movie made me realize that I am still my father's daughter, and I see him in me. I do. Even his temper. I realize it was just perfectionism that was placed on him from his parents and passed onto me. Now I have released it. I can just be me. This song is so beautiful and so cool that Eddie Vedder and his daughter Olivia could collaborate with Sean Penn and his daughter Dylan. They are both blessed with their father's talent. I rarely cry when I hear a song but 10 seconds into this song and I bawled my eyes out. This song went very deep and profoundly touched me. I can imagine my own daughter singing this. All I can think about is what I went through in the last year. My wife left me and took my daughter with her, I went through trauma resulting in a major depression. I found myself at home at the time staring at a piece of rope and contemplating suicide. My daughter is my everything, I would do anything for her she's all I have left. A year later i'm back up on my feet and doing better but it's a long road ahead, my motivation is my daughter, she keeps me going because one day I want her to look up to me and be proud of her dad, she's the reason i'm still alive
Sharing your experience really touched me. May you keep conscious of all your important values and healing you share with your daughter. I sure cried too. A daughter needs to all look up to her dad and have as much compassion for and understanding of him.

(I actually mean that literally and figuratively, with a couple of cats and a 75 lb “lap dog” rounding out the household. 😂) Every day, at some point at least, I feel like I’m failing miserably-I’m juggling way more than one person can handle while I jump through all the hoops to get more care for them, in different areas.

YOU are the foundation for us women regarding the men we choose to be in relationships with. There are no coincidences in life, only synchronicities. This song and the movie came to me at a time in my life where I crave the ability to truly forgive my father, the burdens projected by mother onto me, and his struggle with the bottle. He died when I was 24. I had two older brothers who served in Vietnam, and they weren't drafted. The went to get away from my dad. Still, I know he was just another fallen human. The human journey is about us all falling eventually, making us see we are just one. Anyway this movie made me realize that I am still my father's daughter, and I see him in me. I do. Even his temper. I realize it was just perfectionism that was placed on him from his parents and passed onto me. Now I have released it. I can just be me. This song is so beautiful and so cool that Eddie Vedder and his daughter Olivia could collaborate with Sean Penn and his daughter Dylan. They are both blessed with their father's talent. Much love, light and healing to you all reading this. Today, I celebrate what was great about my dad and if feels pretty damn good.

I rarely cry when I hear a song but 10 seconds into this song and I bawled my eyes out. This song went very deep and profoundly touched me. I can imagine my own daughter singing this. All I can think about is what I went through in the last year. My wife left me and took my daughter with her, I went through trauma resulting in a major depression. I found myself at home at the time staring at a piece of rope and contemplating suicide. My daughter is my everything, I would do anything for her she's all I have left. A year later i'm back up on my feet and doing better but it's a long road ahead, my motivation is my daughter, she keeps me going because one day I want her to look up to me and be proud of her dad, she's the reason i'm still alive
Sharing your experience really touched me. May you keep conscious of all your important values and healing you share with your daughter. I sure cried too. A daughter needs to all look up to her dad and have as much compassion for and understanding of him.

@eddievedder1919 I am doing my best, considering I lost most of my family, children, friends, etc. over 3 years ago. Both my adopted and biological father died of cancer a month apart last year.
