Freeze the crank helps. If anyone needs part # for Genuine Husqvarna 61 thru 272 crankshaft fitting tool it is 502 50 30-04 . But fits the newer style fine thread crank only. Also - ( The 371/372 tool is 502 50 30-15 ) I bought mine from HL supply.
There are two different crankshafts for 61 to 272. The 10mm and 8mm flywheel nut different installer tools. The 8mm being the newest. The 10mm same as the266 and the older style but with fine threads on the clutch. The original 266 crank had coarse threads on the clutch but were limited.
Tin man, “Thank you “ I just finished my Husky 61 from the bottom end up. I appreciate your very helpful videos ! I never would have got the heat right for the bearings or been able to install the seals correctly. I really like the “ cone” trick on the oil pump seal. Anyway the saw runs, oils and makes power again. So, I wanted to “Thank you” for your help, you deserve it! Carry on ! Nick/ Vermont
Building anything is easy until something starts to go wrong. Being able to correct it on the fly is what sets apart the pros from the amateurs. Seeing the process when trouble occurs will be the lesson learned by many today. So easy to just not post that! You were cool under pressure today. Thanks so much for sharing.
My friend, your gifts extend far beyond your technical skills and knowledge! Your ability to teach that process as calmly and clearly along with a good dose of instilling confidence in a rank amateur like myself, is truly your greatest gift! I know I speak for many when I say I have a tremendous amount of gratitude for what you do.👍👍👍
Tinman, if you measure your side clearance on the crankshaft prior to tearing it down, during reassembly you can lay a piece of shim stock or a feeler gauge on the case half prior to dropping the crankshaft in. Just a tip to save you some time adjusting things later.
@@tinmanssaws lol nice buddy, friend ask me if I can build him a saw what kind, I just say give me a piston and well go from there lol, whatever you want
Nice to see I'm not the only guy who's struggled with a bottom end. This is a first time I've ever seen you have a hard time with a bottom end. I'd say that's all to do with the birth of little TIN-BABY 👍. Congratulations guys 🙏
Brother, I'm putting my facebook find 394xp together with this video playing in the background. How to heat the bearings, how to heat the case halves, and what to do when the crank is binding when it's back together. When you said "or you can grab you case splitter," I whipped mine out and put it on. Worked just like you said. BIG kudos from North Carolina!
When going back together, I heat the bearings with a heat gun and drop them on the crank and let cool. I’ve been freezing the crank assembly in a deep freeze and heating the cases with limited success. From now on liquid nitrogen will be my go to freeze the crank. You can get a dip tube bottle from your welding supply place for a minimal amount of money and it makes assembly a ton easier for press fits. You will literally have 15-20 seconds once you assemble the cases to center the crank up. It will usually get you .006-.008 shrinkage.
Next time tap gently with a little hammer and aluminum piece to help the case jump-slide to his place. Tension is great but shock is good too😅 Thank you for showing us your work🙏
I’ve been cutting my own intake to jug gaskets from gasket paper due to cost of OEM and the lack of quality of Hyway gaskets. It takes a few minutes to make one with an exacto knife and a cordless drill. I don’t rush saws as they are all my own, so a few minutes making a gasket like this saves me a ton of money.
Still waiting on parts for that 272xp build. Then I will start looking at a 266xp. They are in ruff shape bottom end all siezed up but it wouldn't be fun if it wasn't a challenge. By the way does the 272xp have a seal carrier? If so where can I purchase one. It doesn't show up on any DPL schematics. TC Tinman Mahalo 🤙🤙🤙
I keep a can of compressed air for assembly..turn can upside down n spray bearings n frozen in seconds..dam near drop out of the case on their own...so wassup tinman u a dad yet..stoked for ya dude..get ready ..its a wonderful ordeal!!
My man, I have a Husqvarna torn down replacing seals. "clam shell". Question is: So I Am NOT replacing crank bearings, is it wise to pack them with Grease before I re-install lower end?? Thanks Friends!
Is there a reason why some cases (like Stihls) you put the bearings in the case first and why some (like this one) you put the bearings on the crankshaft?
I need help my husband is starting up selling fire wood and he dies lumber work for his bday we got him a new saw well that saw was taken . I need to get another one now what and where do you have one for sale he loved his 500i I can’t afford another one and his backup 251 c won’t cut it I need help
wrap bearings in paper towel and put them the microwave for about a minute on high .does a good job to get them hot. see AVE's channel for all the info.

What you're doing is very bad. If you first put the bearing in the block, heat it up, then the crankshaft will slide in. Start on flyweel side, it's important. Then do this on the clutch side. If it doesn't slide into the bearing from the clutch side, you can pull it into the bearing with a lot of washers with the clutch itself. If you use the block screw to pull the bearing into the housing like this, it will definitely go in crooked, wear out the bearing housing. You will also strain the crankshaft, which can cause it to hit.

I've been waiting for one like this for awhile. Showing the failures is just as important as the successes

If you could slot it, leave no chance of catywampes, not that it really can just a thought but yes def good idea
Most bottom ends I do are blown up so I tend to not take for granted that the crank was centered or that the bearings were sitting in the right spot.

Great videos What is a good aftermarket brand for crankshafts and bearings?
Thanks for sharing the not so savory moments aswell👍 I know I've said it before but the unforseen is part of what makes this hobby so fun😃
Yeppers, I love building chainsaws.

A phenomenal sealant for what you are doing is Honda Bond.
On some Husqvarna when putting crankcases together dont forget the oil tank vent tube
Ohh, awesome, great tip with the splitting tool, thanks Tinman.
hey buddy! hope all is well with you the wife and the baby!
Glad to see your getting good use out of the temp gun. Good video

I did the same
Great job, thanks for your share. Grettings from France
my my nice job
I always put crank assembly in the freezer prayer to assembly
From my experience, use a gas torch instead of electric heater, the cases get hot faster and hotter, it gives you more time closing the cases.
Great content love the videos hope all is going good with misses Tinman and the baby
Thanks, still waiting for the baby
I use dry ice to shrink a crank or any interference fit assembly. It’s cheap at the local welding shop, or fish market.
Good job Tks for great video Tinman.

Aluminium expands greater than steel bearings so a reheat might do the trick.
A little brake cleaner quiets those crickets right up.
Heyyyyyy tinman!! Another week down without the smokes..... how ya holdin up bloke.??
I'm at 6 weeks now?? Maybe more I lost track

A light shugunk with the brass mallet will center the crank up, guess who I learned that from….
Sometimes you can use old agenda covers for paper gaskets
I've never had an air leak that I liked!
Me either
I understand so it's ok
I build a press just to press in bearings on chainsaws.
