Great performance of Pat Ewing both defensively than offensively.....almost 30 years after ( can't believe it' such long time ago ) I am still pissed the knicks lost those finals which made me become a NBA aficionado.....go Knicks go!
It is PAINFUL that we were so close. SO CLOSE! Just one more win and the Knicks would have had a title. Ewing would have gotten his ring. Of all the series losses in Knicks playoff history, this one hurt the most.
I remember being in attendance as a kid at one of the rare games where Hakeem attempted and made a 3. I thought the roof was going to blow off if the old Houston Summit.
Much rather these highlights because that series was such an eye sore to watch. I'm assuming we're not getting an OJ Bronco chase split screen. Also no Game 6?
@@javedo Not a trash series. Two teams that didn't have prima-donnas whining about foul calls, and actually playing defense. Not having a three-point shooting competition like we see today. In Olajuwon and Ewing, we saw two dominant centers with excellent post moves. Something that is extinct today. Today's league is simply filled with one and dones who can't play defense, can't even box out for rebounds, and only want to shoot threes. A trash series is what we saw from the Rockets in 2018, especially in Game 7, where they missed 27 consecutive 3-point attempts, and didn't even bother to try to adjust.
@@ianmillerdevilsfan1223 Defense today is more complicated, where teams score over 100+ points. Please. You don't need goggles to see how soft defense is today compared to 20-30 years ago.. Players don't know how to defend man-to-man, and physicality is too much for these soft players. Obviously, you were born in the Lebron-era, so you don't know what actual defense is. Defense where defenders could actually put their hands on players and not be called for ticky-tack fouls. Players today also don't know fundamentals. Players having fundamentals, like blocking out for rebounds, and actually knowing how to score with their backs to the basket. All today's players know how to do is jack up 40+ three-pointers a game and hope to make at least 20 of them.
The intensity of these games got me addicted to the nba...if u got a easy basket u was lucky
Almost 30 years later this still hurts.
Some games always hurt and this one is one of them.
I'm trying to find the full version of this game where the game went on without commentators while NBC cut away to the O.J. chase...

Too bad the Knicks had to go back to Houston, and the rest was history
Their only chance to win it all, was in game 3 and they blew it.
9:01 - Hakeem Olajuwon was the leading scorer in all 7 games of those Finals and even went 1/1 from three as you can see in this video.

Hakeem made a few three's in his career.

Game 3
@@haroldt1999 no he was correct it was game five
Coaches actually had control over their teams back then
It was an epic war !
Love your comment. It's so true. NBA now doesn't come close.
@@brandonfouts4074 it's just the highlights, but I can feel the tension, the pressure, the nervosity of the game. Great video.
These games were rock fights.

It was a double disappointment that night foe me. First my beloved rockets lost and second oj didn't blow his brains out on national TV
when was the last time you saw 4 NBA players on the floor going for the ball with passion?
Not since 40mil a year became norm
The Rockets last NBA Finals game loss to date.

Was this OJ day? Hence parts without commentary?
Yep

Nope:(
I've got all games on DVD from that series and in game 5 in the 3rd quarter a lot of the game wasn't broadcasted... They all had eyes on OJ
This series wasn't an eye sore. This was physical hard-fought series between two good defensive teams. The intensity level was through the roof.
@@pomerlain8924 it’s a trash series I’ve never re watched because that ugly caveman basketball is done and good riddance

this was a slug fest and looks better than the teams today who basically play the same style across the board
Yep, tough hard-nosed defense where points were at a premium. Nothing was easy.

Back then, the format in finals was 2-3-2 it was changed in 2014 to 2-2-1-1-1.
