      True, but he and the Knicks chocked big time. Failing to score 90 points in game 7 of a series when MJ is finally out of his/their way? Ewing has no-one to blame but himself for failing to win a championship.

    This might be the greatest game ever played in NBA history. If you put one basketball game into a time capsule to show later generations, this would be it. It's the very height of professional basketball. The teams played tight and technically skilled ball.

    If you go back and watch the way they done this finals series in 94, the way they did the storylines and lead up to game 1 was unmatched by anything the nba does nownadays in terms of marketing the game and building excitement for the matchups. NBA in the 99s and 2000s was the literal golden era of the NBA.

    I graduated high school that year and won 300 dollars in a bet with a co worker we initally bet a 100 after game five he was real cocky and Said I will go you double or nothing I said how about let's go triple or nothing. When they were down three games to two going back to Houston I knew the series was already over the rockets were going to win both game six and seven I have never been so sure of anything in my entire life as I was that they would win those two final games and I'm not usually that confident. It was my favorite series still to this date and I've been watching NBA finals series since I was 4 years old that I can remember. The matchup was so even it was a no-brainer of course they would win game six and then I knew with game seven in Houston the next had zero chance. Even though the game was only decided by six points it didn't seem nearly that close

    Hard fought fair series. Olajuwon certainly got the better of Ewing though. Starks shot 2 for 18 in game 7. Imagine if he had hit just a couple more shorts for a still terrible 4 or 5 of 18? Ewing should have been the defensive player of the year this season. Led the league in defensive win shares and defensive rating. Played better on the defensive end than Hakeem. Finished top 5 in mvp voting. Meaning he was a top 5 player that season and still didn’t make not a single all nba team or a defensive team. That season 4 of the top 5 best players where all centers!

    • @ChrisM07
      @ChrisM07 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ewing's defensively wasn't that much better out of the 2, their defensive numbers were extremely close and then there was a sizable gap from 3rd onwards. In this series Ewing's numbers and shooting were significantly lower from his average so him having the bigger defensive impact isn't necessarily true there either. He had a few more blocks but half of the time he was matched up with Thorpe or Herrera who didn't have plays ran for them so he was able to roam and play team defense without worrying about picking up fouls.

    Back when teams gave it all they had for the entire game took no plays off. Hussle grit determination great fundamentals everyone on the court mastered whatever they were good at. Whether it was a sharpshooter hard nosed defender/rebounder etc all aspects of the game was covered back in these super competitive days of the nba. There was hardly any freebies points had to be earned!

    A couple of things stand out to me about this series.
    Rockets role players were better.
    Alot of people blame Starks for the loss but the fact of the matter Ewing got thoroughly outplayed by Olajuwon the whole series.
    With The title on the line Riley should’ve subbed Starks out a long time ago and gave Rolando Blackman a look.

    Pat Riley should have set Starks and played someone else.I understand he was out there for defensive purposes because,offensively he went ice age in that game.. He’s the reason I broke my hand he did that a few times in the series. And that damn O.J. Simpson trial kept interrupting the game.

    • @ChrisM07

      Starks was the Knicks 2nd scoring option, having him sit in a G7 would've been an extremely risky decision. The difference in this series was really Cassell and Elie off the bench they were practically quality starters, Riley on other hand relied heavily on Starks and Harper.
