Now, yes but back then, not so much. Victorian era people use to paint over coving (crown molding) AND woodwork and it was bright colors compared to today's white/natural standard. Even further back, ancient Greek times, statues used to also have garish painted colors and none were white.

This was a lovely couple and they had a great sense of humor. I hope they found the right home for their growing family. I did not like the kitchen remodel. The narrow prep space was useless that was added was useless. A 3'x 2' butcher block island would have been a better choice.

Just to sell to a younger buyer sometimes the younger upscale buyer want that Victorian/ Edwardian wood work. I guess she did n realize that it took skilled craft men to make those doors and window casings and frames. Along those that did plaster work. I also noticed that one of the ceilings they were painting white was either a tin ceiling or a plaster ceiling that had been made to look like tin that took talent of a very good plaster. Also the drapes that she chose did not fit the room they were in they were to modern and on a rod. I know that replace ing the original drapes they could not do but she could have pick some that fir the style of the house. and above everything she painted everything gray. what I would have done was to not paint the rooms the original dark colors but a lighter version of the original colors. If you look a a real Victorian room colors they were dark greens, blues, dark yellows and reds or wallpaper. all they walls where not a muddy gray.

@@janetyoung6097 I think it's pretty offensive to assume that a "younger buyer" can't appreciate craftsman. It has nothing to do with age. It has to do with selling the fantasy -- and the original owners weren't doing it with their lack of style, and that crappy kitchen. Buyers want to feel like they can walk in, and easily recreate the beauty that sold them on the home. Since the house isn't decorated, they'll think "oh...I don't even know how to make this look nice, as well as be functional, and apparently neither do the current owners." Everywhere we go, we're seeing white walls, and minimalism, so for someone who isn't a designer, or isn't creative, (regardless of their age), they don't know how to decorate a craftsman home so that it's inviting, bright, and cozy.
You know the irony? Since MCM / scandanavian design is so popular, right now, a lot of the furniture which would make this house shine is cheaper than the currently-trending furniture. I'm really very sad that rather than teaching people to work with what they have, this show likes to obliterate it, and spend a lot to do so. People spend millions to have real wood, and crown molding. This show is like, "nah, let's make it look cheap!"

My home sat on the market 90 days in the Fall without an offer, our real estate agent wanted me to paint the family room cherry wood - bead-board, chair rail, built-in cabinets, ceiling beams, thick mantel shelf. The dark cherry wood was appropriate for the colonial rustic room with a large brick fireplace. I agreed to paint only the bead-board and chair rail, broke my heart. The house finally sold in the spring, the new owner painted everything white. What a shame.

@@susanholl5994 I know when ever she gets into a period style house be it Victorian, Edwardian that has a lot of wood features with a lot of wood doors and frame with the rosettes on the top of the frame. the first thing she will do is to suggest to the owners to paint all that beautiful trim white. Because all that trim does not look sleek and modern and she does with same with interior furnishings with lighting and furniture. Instead of doing a sympathetic update to the house with some modern updates. that show reminds me of the remodel show twin brothers. they would do the same thing they would go into a period house rip out all the plaster wall for no reason replace them with dry wall, put in modern lighting and furnishings and totally change the total aesthetics of the house. Jut because they did not like a beautiful plaster wall. I could see if the wall had plaster falling of was cracked but just to replace it for no good reason other they did not like them was a shame.
