  • I continue clearing the rubbish at the back of the allotment. I start digging out rubbish, which was postponed due to frost and as the ground was frozen solid. The first job was to clear the metal and wood from the back corner. I had to dig up some big bramble roots before I could start digging out the metal which was buried. This involved a lot of digging and pulling and by the end I was getting very tired. I was also frustrated that there were more layers of carpet under all the rubbish and brambles. Finally the back is clear of major rubbish and I can put up a fence at the back of the allotment.

Great worker, hard work, fair play to him, he's getting the job done properly.

I had no idea the roots could get so thick and so deep! Not looking forward to digging all mine up but will be glad when they're gone (hopefully!)
There is also carpet, brick, glass and all sorts that's been dumped in my garden, so I feel your pain!

I sympathise with you as I spent days digging up glass and still find bits of glass and rubbish when I'm planting things. Once you've done the main tidy up, you will find less and less as time goes by.

that took a lot of heavy work! It is very frustrating to do but satisfying when you are done as hopefully, you will enjoy your allotment for many many years knowing your soil is free from glass and discarded metal and carpet! you must have a bin full of glass and a stack of rusted out metal never mind all plastic other garbage!
what a shame, but also what a great job you are doing!
I cannot wait to see how your garden turned out for 2021! ❤️

Thanks. Fortunately we do get skips for the rubbish and the scrap metal man picks up the metal so can get the rubbish of the allotment.

🚧 Looks like a garbage dump - what a drudgery! Very impressive effort! 🚧

Yes, unfortunately it's cheaper to rent an allotment than it is to hire a skip so this happened a lot in the past.

God, what a state 😂 Hey, somebody left a couple of rusty bed springs/bases in the garden of my house. They must've dated from the 1950s. I used them as a support for peas 👍🏻 EDIT...I hope your tetanus jab is up to date. Lots of rusty metal on your site. And that milk churn defo looks like it's from the 50s. That last circular object is the base of a baby's old fashioned pram.

Had to refresh my tetanus earlier as I stepped on a rusty nail while I was taking down the old poly tunnel.

Yes, that's what it is. We call it a milk pail (so I could use the bad pun)
